Guest Hafo
Oooh we have exact sales for Hard Candy: Last week: 9.378 Total: 193.035 Also exact sales for 4 Minutes! Last week: 10.938 Total: 342.518 And for GI2M last week: 3.926.
Guest Hafo
QB: I was referring to the TCT album/DVD. And yup, I've had at least 3 people telling me that 4 Minutes is great but the rest of the song sound "naff". Most of them won't give the album a second listening though since they are casual buyers. But those who have done it, said it "grows" on you. I have a hunch GI2M will do great, the video is starting to get decent airplay rotation. Queen Bitch
4 Minutes could end up her biggest selling single of the decade. What were Hung Up's official sales? I say 'official' because I know it did loads on downloads, before they were included.
Guest Hafo
Hung Up's latest reported sales by Music Week (I think on May) were 507.764. I don't think they include downloads prior to physical release though.
Queen Bitch
Hung Up seems safe then. I never think of TCT/DVD shit as official albums - in fact it irks me how they make them eligible for the album chart, not just the DVD chart but at least they didn't fuck up like the did with IGTTYAS. The album's ultimate fate will depend on wether they keep the campaign going (or start it even). If they advertise it on the back of the second single and then do another push with single number 4, during the festive market, then it may well have its best sales to come. franxisco66
Prefer HU being her best selling single of the decade. I like 4min less and less each day....
aeroco
Good to see GITM climbing nicely. Lets hope it continues. HC is reviving too which is great. HU should stay ahead of 4M as it is still picking up sales in the lower reaches of the top 200. 4M is slowing down now. HU also had another 40kish sales previous to its release when the chart excluded pre release downloads so in reality in is closing in on 600k. AMAZING! Guest SuperPop
I wasn't aware that TCT underperformed in the UK - she sold out all shows. not only she sold out all Wembley shows...but they also were the most profitable shows from all the Confessions tour... Guest SuperPop
What I've heard is that most people bought HC expecting it to be full of songs like 4 Minutes. Then when they hear the Pharrell songs they are like, what the heck! I've heard the complete opposite from my friends: due to the first single , they didnt buy the album...and that is the main problem for the underwhelming UK sales of HC...4M appealed to a niche market that firstly doesnt buy albums but mostly singles (the 'Rihanna','Timbo' fans) and secondly it would never buy a Madonna album...and dont forget that 4M was a duet...so someone who likes Justin (and they are many nowadays), would definitely love '4M'..but doesnt mean that he/she would automatically start liking Madonna or buy an album of hers.... I think the strategy that QB mentioned , with 4M being a single not linked with the album, would be the most appropriate...at least for Europe (because in US, 4M was the most suitable first single)
markm
Well I have just watched the Coldplay concert on BBC2 and it was great. New songs mixed will some oldies and very well performed. I can see Viva La Vida achieving massive sales, they really have got the promotion right with the free download song, free gigs and the i Tunes advert. Fulls marks to them. Much better than the EMBARRASSING concert we got from Chav Land Maidstone.

Dr Lecter
Why oh WHY cant they do some tv promo, tying it in with the tour, as its been said, look at the power of advertising with Coldplay... God for something so easy, warners are so shit, and some of the blame lays with Madonna, i do think sometimes she thinks she can sell on her name alone, and in this day and age, as has been proved by an album with a hideous cover and no mention of her name, plus the fct she hardly looks like herself on the cover, this aint true
