J.K. Rowling is causing controversy again, again wading into the debate about transgender people by criticizing Scottish police for allowing rape suspects to self-identify as female.

The “Harry Potter” author — who has previously been accused of making transphobic comments  took to Twitter on Sunday by sharing an article from The Times of London titled: “‘Absurdity’ of police logging rapists as women.”

“War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength. The Penised Individual Who Raped You Is a Woman,” Rowling wrote, referencing “Newspeak”in George Orwell’s “1984.”

She then linked to the news article, which stated, “Police Scotland said that they would log rapes as being carried out by a woman if the accused person insists, even if they have not legally changed gender.”

Thousands of fans immediately hit out at Rowling, with many accusing her of having an unhealthy fixation on trans issues.

“You literally have a castle and you spend your time doing this,” podcaster Rob Rousseau wrote.

“What a weird hill to die on Rowling,” producer Brett Erlich added.

A third chimed in saying that Rowling was focusing her attention on the wrong part of the story about rapes in Scotland, highlighting her prejudice and fixation.

“The vast majority of sexual assaults are committed by men who don’t identify as anything other than men. Perhaps you might consider using your public profile to combat this instead?” they stated.

The 56-year-old author was first accused of transphobia last June, when she poked fun at an article titled: “Creating a more equal post-COVID-19 world for people who menstruate.”

“People who menstruate,” Rowling mocked. “I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?”

She later insisted “sex is real” before being described by critics as a TERF, or Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist.

Rowling was lambasted by “Harry Potter” actors, including Emma Watson. She was also excluded from an upcoming HBO Max special celebrating the fantasy films.

However, that hasn’t stopped the Scottish author from expressing her views.

Many women are concerned about the challenges to their fundamental rights posed by certain aspects of gender identity ideology,” Rowling stated in a Good Housekeeping interview last December.

However, in her latest dust-up, Rowling also received praise for her comments — with many prominent Twitter users thanking her for having the “courage” to speak out.

“Thank you for calling out the insanity,” Canadian political commentator Lauren Chen wrote.

“Your tweet is brave,” journalist Andy Ngo said.

“Thank you. You have no idea how important your voice is, or how much it means to women and girls,” columnist Susan Dalgety responded.

Rowling told Good Housekeeping last year that she’s been inundated with supportive messages for her controversial stance, saying she’s received a flurry of letters since speaking out on trans issues — more than 90% of which reportedly have been positive.

  2. Italian man wears fake arm in crazy attempt to avoid getting COVID-19 jab

An Italian man thought he had an ace up his sleeve to circumvent his country’s COVID-19 vaccine mandates — but was busted when he showed up for his shot wearing a fake arm, according to a report.

The creative anti-vaxxer may have paid hundreds of euros for the silicone prosthetic, which he wore to the vaccine center in Biella, a town in the northern Piemonte region near Turin, the Guardian reported.

The 50-year-old — who sought to avoid the jab but still get the so-called Green Pass — signed a consent form and lifted up his sleeve for the health care worker, who didn’t notice anything amiss at first.

But when the woman touched the faux limb, she realized something was odd, told the man to remove his shirt and discovered the trickster’s strong-arm tactic.

The worker, Filippa Bua, 60, told the Italian newspaper La Repubblica that she “felt offended as a professional,” adding that “the color of the arm made me suspicious … It was well-made, but it wasn’t the same color.”

She told La Stampa she could not see any veins, the Guardian reported.

“At first I thought I made a mistake — that it was a patient with an artificial arm,” she said.

The shameless man still tried to persuade her to turn a blind eye to his ruse while injecting some levity by asking, “Would you have imagined that I’d have such a physique?”

Piemonte president Alberto Cirio said in a joint statement with regional health chief Luigi Icardi, “The promptness and skill of the health worker ruined the plans of this person, who will now have to respond to the judiciary.”

La Repubblica suggested that the same man may have shared a message on Twitter featuring a silicone body suit on sale on Amazon, along with the message, “If I go with this, will they notice?

“Maybe beneath the silicone I’ll even put on some extra clothes to avoid the needle reaching my real arm,” the user reportedly added.

Italy has recently announced stricter vaccine measures that will ban entry of unvaccinated people into popular venues like nightclubs, restaurants, theaters and gyms.

The “super green pass,” which takes effect across the country Monday, requires proof of vaccination or recovery from the bug.

The busted man’s attempt would “border on the ridiculous” were it not “for the fact that we are talking about a gesture of enormous gravity,” Cirio and Icardi said in their statement.

“It is unacceptable in the face of the sacrifice that the pandemic is making the whole community pay for,” they added, according to the Guardian.

  3. Two actors leave the soap opera ‘General Hospital’ over its vaccine mandate.

Two actors have left one of America’s most popular soap operas after declining to comply with an on-set vaccination mandate.

The actors, Steve Burton and Ingo Rademacher, were fixtures of ABC’s “General Hospital,” a long-running daytime drama set in the fictional town of Port Charles, N.Y.

About one in five American adults has not received a single dose of a coronavirus vaccine.

Mr. Burton and Mr. Rademacher were outspoken opponents of a coronavirus vaccine mandate that applied to a part of the set where actors work unmasked, known in the industry as Zone A. The mandate took effect on Nov. 1.

“Unfortunately, ‘General Hospital’ has let me go because of the vaccine mandate,” Mr. Burton, who tested positive for the virus in August and filmed his last episode on Oct. 27, said in an Instagram video on Tuesday.

“I did apply for my medical and religious exemptions and both of those were denied — which, you know, hurts,” he added. “But this is also about personal freedom to me. I don’t think anyone should lose their livelihood over this.”

Mr. Rademacher’s departure from the show was made public earlier this month. He had also refused to comply with the show’s vaccine mandate. “I will stand with you to fight for medical freedom,” he wrote in an Instagram post.

Mr. Rademacher has also been criticized on social media in recent weeks for making comments that his critics perceived to be transphobic, a suggestion he has forcefully denied.

Representatives for ABC declined to comment on the record. Publicists for the actors could not be reached for comment late Tuesday.

Other Hollywood productions have imposed similar on-set mandates, but there is no universal vaccination requirement for people who work in film and television.

“General Hospital” has been on the air since 1963. Its episodes are filmed weeks before they air.

Mr. Rademacher played the character Jasper “Jax” Jacks on the show for 25 years. In his last episode, which aired on Monday, the character said — spoiler alert — that he would be returning to Australia.

“I’m kind of on the outs with everyone in Port Charles right now,” the character said. Some fans interpreted that as a reference to the actor’s real-life tension with his castmates.

In the same episode, Mr. Burton’s character, Jason Morgan, was caught up in a tunnel collapse.

Mr. Burton said in his Instagram video on Tuesday that he hoped the show’s vaccine mandate would be lifted so that he could finish his career playing Jason Morgan.

“And if not,” he added, “I’m going to take this experience, move forward and be forever grateful.”
