  2. 1 killed and 7 injured in shooting in Oakland, California
By Taylor Romine, CNN | Updated 6:51 AM EST, Tue January 24, 2023

Seven people were injured and one person was killed in a shooting Monday night in Oakland, California, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the 5900 block of Macarthur Boulevard just after 6:00 p.m. to investigate an alert from a ShotSpotter, which is gunshot detection technology, the Oakland Police Department said in a statement.

When officials arrived at the scene they found “several casings” but no victims, the statement said. During the investigation, officers learned there had been a shooting between several individuals, police said.

Multiple hospitals then began alerting police they had received multiple patients suffering gunshot wounds who had self-transported to the hospitals for treatment.

The Oakland shooting was California’s third mass shooting within three days.

The seven injured people were in stable condition, police said. The deceased victim’s identity is being withheld pending family notification, they added.

Just hours earlier about 40 miles southwest of Oakland, seven people were killed and one was critically wounded in shootings at two locations in Half Moon Bay, officials said. A 67-year-old suspect is in custody.

And in Southern California, 11 people were killed in a mass shooting Saturday night in Monterey Park.

  3. Six dead in California home shooting, including 6-month-old baby and her mother
    By Kanishka Singh | January 17, 2023

Jan 16 (Reuters) - Six people including a six-month-old baby cradled in the arms of her 17-year-old mother were shot dead at a home in California's main agricultural valley on Monday in what authorities called a targeted attack and "horrific massacre."

Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux linked the killings to the illegal drug trade, saying deputies had conducted a drug-related search warrant at the same home last week.

We believe this was a message being sent," Boudreaux told reporters at the scene. "We believe that this was a targeted family."

Two suspects remained at large, he said.

Authorities responded early on Monday after multiple shots were heard. Some victims were found in the street while others were discovered in the house.

One victim was alive and wounded when authorities arrived but later died at a hospital, Boudreaux said.

  4. Monterey Park shooting turns mass celebration into massacre :nervous:
By Tim Reid and Kanishka Singh | January 23, 2023

MONTEREY PARK, Calif., Jan 22 (Reuters) - The red lanterns bobbed and banners proclaimed "Happy Year of the Rabbit" but Monterey Park's famous Lunar New Year festivities were brought to an abrupt end by a shooting that left 10 people dead and another 10 wounded.

Vendors dismantled stalls and workers took apart a fairground on Sunday in the normally placid community of 60,000, where thousands from across Southern California gathered on Saturday.

The city on the eastern edge of Los Angeles was holding its first in-person celebration of the Lunar New Year since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

But the festivities turned into bloody mayhem as a man was accused of fatally shooting 10 people at a ballroom dance venue late on Saturday. Officials said at least another 10 people were taken to local hospitals to be treated for wounds.

Video taken by local news media after the shooting showed injured people, many of them appearing to be middle aged, being loaded into ambulances on stretchers.

"Monterey Park should have had a night of joyful celebration of the Lunar New Year. Instead, they were the victims of a horrific and heartless act of gun violence," California Governor Gavin Newsom said.

Monterey Park is around 7 miles (11 km) from downtown Los Angeles. About two-thirds of its residents are Asian, according to U.S. Census data, and the city is known for its many Chinese restaurants and groceries.

Heading into the planned weekend celebrations, the city said on its official Twitter page that a two-day open street event was going to be held in the downtown area.

"It has always been an exciting and memorable event with thousands of guests and hundreds of vendors joining us for fun activities, shopping and entertainment, and delicious food," the city said in its Thursday announcement.

The festivities scheduled for Sunday were canceled after the mass shooting.

When police arrived at the shooting scene, people were "pouring out of the location screaming," said Andrew Meyer, captain of Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The suspect entered the ballroom dance venue and opened fire. The shooting site was near the Lunar New Year festival.

Police have not named the dance club but were seen going in and out of the Star Ballroom Dance Studio, access to which was blocked off by police tape. The club opened in 1990, and its website features many photographs of past Lunar New Year celebrations showing patrons smiling and dancing in party clothes in its large, brightly lit ballroom.

A flyer posted on the website advertised Saturday night's new year party, running from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

"I was just in this area with my parents and I was celebrating Lunar New Year last night," said Cindy Phung, who attended the festival celebrations.

Her family left the area before the shooting happened, she said.

  5. In April, Paludan declared he would embark on an anti-Muslim tour in Sweden.

His plan was to visit cities and towns with large Muslim populations, with the intent of burning copies of the Quran during the month of Ramadan.

Paludan's motive as to drum up support for Danish legislative elections that were scheduled for September.

And instead of preventing him, the Swedish police accompanied Paludan and protected him during his tour.

Not far away from Sweden, Lars Thorsen the leader of an extremist far-right group called "Stop the Islamisation of Norway", also burned a copy of the Quran in Oslo in July.

And this is not the first time that the anti-Muslim group had been involved in burning the Quran.

The group had pulled similar stunts in the past and got away with it every time.

  6. Sweden allows burning of Quran in front of Turkish embassy; envoy summoned

Turkish government summoned the Swedish ambassador to Ankara on Saturday asking for an explanation of the burning of the Quran in front of the Turkish embassy in Stockholm.

According to a report by the Washington Post, Swedish right-wing leader Rasmus Paludan received permission to burn the Quran from the Swedish government. He was protected by the police while committing the act.

Sources from the Turkish foreign affairs ministry said that the ambassador was made very clear about Turkey’s condemnation, stating that the act was provocative and “clearly a hate crime”.

“Sweden’s attitude is unacceptable. We expect the act not to be allowed, and that insults to sacred values cannot be defended under the guise of ‘democratic rights’.”

Recently, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year, Finland and Sweden applied for a NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) membership to which Turkey is already a member for 70 years.

To become a NATO member, the applicant country has to get approval from all 30 countries. Hungary and Turkey have so far not given any reply.

    Who is Rasmus Paludan
Rasmus Paludan is a convicted racist who heads Denmark’s far-right Stram Kurs (Hard Line) party and holds both Danish and Swedish nationalities.

Last week, he burnt the effigy of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Stockholm, the Daily Mail reported.

Although Sweden condemned the incident, Turkey said the Nordic country had to take a stronger stand and mere condemnation is not enough.

Last year in April during Ramzan, the 41-year-old announced he will go on a “Quran burning tour”. He started burning the holy book in places where the predominant populations are Muslims.

This was followed by riots and over 40 people were arrested.

Paludan has been a controversial figure. In September 2020, he was banned from entering Sweden for two years. In the same year in October, he was prevented from entering Germany after announcing he would conduct an anti-Muslim demonstration in Berlin.

An unsuspecting Indiana University student was repeatedly stabbed in the head on a bus Wednesday for “being Chinese,” police said.

Billie Davis, 56, allegedly told cops she targeted the student in Bloomington for no other reason than her race.

The 18-year-old student “would be one less person to blow up our country,” Davis allegedly told police, according to court documents obtained by WRTV.

Davis — who was seen smirking in a mugshot –was originally only charged with battery until hospital workers found seven stab wounds on the victim’s head.

Police re-interviewed Davis Thursday, who then allegedly admitted to using a folding knife in the racially-charged attack, and charged her with attempted murder. It’s unclear if she will also be charged with a hate crime.

The attack was completely unprovoked, police said.

The student, who police did not name but was identified as an Indiana University student, told officers she tried to exit the bus at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, but was bludgeoned by a stranger she had not interacted with during the bus ride.

Davis spontaneously struck as the student waited for the doors to open, police allege.

As her victim stayed at the scene bleeding, Davis then walked off the bus and away from the scene, footage reviewed by police show.

A witness followed Davis in order to give her location to cops.

Davis is being held at Monroe County Jail on a $100,000 surety bond and $1,000 cash bond, according to online court records.

“This week, Bloomington was sadly reminded that anti-Asian hate is real and can have painful impacts on individuals and our community,” Indiana University Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Multicultural Affairs James Wimbush said in a statement.

“No one should face harassment or violence due to their background, ethnicity or heritage. Instead, the Bloomington and IU communities are stronger because of the vast diversity of identities and perspectives that make up our campus and community culture.”

It’s not my cup of tea. It’s overcrowded, very busy and it looks superficial. It lacks the charm of other islands, because it’s too unauthentic. Plus the ppl mainly wanna show off. Milos is my favorite island so far - not overcrowded, clean waters, great food and chill atmosphere. But that’s just what I like. If you want clubbing, Mykonos is the place

    Clubbing? YASSSSS :horn:

And of course I do like some quiet beach sometimes, that's why I went Maldives as well.

Absurd. However those rules in Pular Besau are even more absurd. Greece is always the best option. So many nudists beaches there. Too bad you can't go on your winter vacation, because its like 15 degrees. All the liberal and warm places (when in Europe it's winter) are too far from where I am like Brazil or Cuba or Miami.

I LOVE Mykonos island! so many hot gay men, so little time! :inlove: :horny: :dramatic:
