Oasis' entry is solely digital- but like this week's No. 6, it may drop when the physical hits.
is there going to be a physical release for Oasis???
-
I think so but we didn't get that string of single re-releases he did back in '05 or any since then.
The "A Little Less Conversation" and "Rubberneckin'" remixes on 30 #1 Hits and 2nd To None respectively were both released here as singles, though. They got next to no airplay and charted on the Hot 100 with unflattering peaks on the strength of his loons here buying the physical singles.
in fact, this year they had a lot of elvis compilations in the US (Ultimate, elvis at the movies...) and in europe we had "Elvis the King", with no new songs, and (I guess) no old pictures...
who knows, maybe a new generation of elvis fanatics it´s growing, I don´t know

where´s annie? isn´t the single out yet?

James Blunt already falling! not that a number 2 is a bad possition, bad he was huge only a few years ago.Anyway, I think he might feel relieved because this album is not a big success...I don´t think he was feeling very confortable with his level of fame

Wake up call is at number 23!!!!! it´s going up really fast!

-- 1 KANYE WEST ROC-A-FELLA/IDJMG 930,251 --

!!
WOW for Kanye, bet 50 cent is dissapointed lol xxx
anyway, both "artists" had huge sales!!!!! it doesn´t look like 2007!

We'll have to wait and see if she can do it with one album or two.
I like this part, madonna having 5 top 100 with one or two albums...
-
Unlike some people, I have no issue with the track selection on GHV2- well, maybe some of the album versions could have been on there (esp. when, say, the DTM album version is). But, the few ballad hits can stay on STR, that's a-ok with me- they're fine and lovely, mind you.
it´s simple: first, new material, Like a flower for example. Then, no radio edits, Don´t cry for me argentina´s Miami mix, and speaking about the ballads, Rain (radio edit, or that one, different fom the one on STR, and very beautiful in my opinion) and the long version of TUTBMP

It was the impact of Cherish that caused the surge that week.
There wasn't any TV commercial that i can think of?
I don´t remember any ad.Maybe it was Cheris+announcement of the tour+Express yourself´s performance on MTV awards
-
"Cherish" and a TV commercial?
what TV commercial?

I find it strange that one has to buy old Madonna CDs online in the US. Everytime I go to HMV or Virgin (or small retailers) in the UK or Spain I find at least one copy and most of the times more copies of every Madonna album.
I was really surprised with the music stores in DC this summer: they are really bad.I used to think that the ones in my city were the worst, but they even have madonna´s singles (OK, only in Fnac, but "El corte inglés", the other big one, has all madonna´s CDs)!!!! and in DC, well, I saw COADF, Erotica, AL, And LAV all the time, but LAP for example...no.On the other hand, she was probably the only artist with maxis, but only her last ones, Get together and Jump.
-
Was July 1990 when she was in the UK for BAT? That probably helped a lot. Or Hanky Panky being such a big hit over there.
well, Hanky Panky peak at number 2, so it was quite a hit
-
A lot of people don't know this, but LAP wasn't even the best selling album on the week it was released - a Now That's What I Call Music album actually outsold it, this was just the time after they changed the chart rules to exclude compilations from the main album chart, and this was the first time the real #1 selling album wasn't properly listed. How shit would that have been had they not changed the rules.
I didn´t know that: but LAP was "number 1" for more than one week in the UK, wasn´t it? so maybe the second week it was the real number 1
-
Music is now 1,608,000
that´s a lot, and only with porper singles!!!!! imagine if she had released four songs from the album...wait! I forgot American Pie!!!! one of her more recent number ones!!!!I´m starting to understand now

I still think that the fact that Express yourself was so different on the single and on the album it´s related to that "lack of sales" (of course, selling more than a million it´s never a failure. And both Virgin (pre-Into teh groove and post Into the groove, and Blue sales, we have to keep in mind that when these album appeared the CD wasn´t popular, so I guess a lot o people like me, who had these albums in casette-vinyl, they change it to CD, adding more sales to the total. An that didn´t happen with LAP, or not that much. And of course, TIC killed the album).Anyway, Enjoy yourself selling more than LAP???????????? I like EY, it´s a fun album, but...

Peak position and retail sales of Madonna albums in UK as of August 2007, as reported by OCC or MusicWeek. Certifications © have been used when retail sales are not available. Club sales are not included.
01..THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION ... 3.490.000*
01..TRUE BLUE ................... 1.961.164
01..RAY OF LIGHT ................ 1.677.925
01..LIKE A VIRGIN ............... 1.626.126
01..MUSIC ....................... 1.594.045
01..CONFESSIONS ON A DANCEFLOOR . 1.270.000*
01..LIKE A PRAYER ............... 1.200.000 C
I still find so difficult to believe that Music and COADF sold more than Like a prayer in the UK!

4 Brothers In Arms Dire Straits
5 Gold - Greatest Hits Abba
6 The Dark Side Of The Moon Pink Floyd
7 Greatest Hits II Queen
8 Thriller Michael Jackson
9 Bad Michael Jackson
10 The Immaculate Collection Madonna
I thought Bad was more successful than Thriller in the UK

Try This was pretty much dead on arrival. Even the lead single couldn't make the top 50. She could've released a very commercial single anyway on that record and it wouldn't have gone anywhere. The Try This singles had it worse than the singles for I'm Not Dead, even disregarding U + Ur Hand.
yes: and it´s really strange, because her previous album was a massive success:that´s why I don´t understand, because the change wasn´t that big, at least in the singles
-
"God is a DJ" bubbled under.
I find incredible what happened with this song! it was really good and it sounds so commercial to me! those charts are crazy!

Santa baby played once!!!! in June!

well, it's a double edged sword. Sweet Escape's sales are a tad disappointing compared to L.A.M.B., but it's actually performed quite well considering the negative momentum that Wind It Up kicked the album off with. It was comparable to Loverboy, Call On Me and American Life, yet the album has managed to sell over a million and have a huge second single. When The Sweet Escape was about to come out, I think most people figured she'd sell 20 Y.O. numbers after the horrible word of mouth and a leadoff single that ranks "up there" with Loverboy and American Life.
I consider The sweet escape a successful album in the US, but its sales are really low, that´s why I think it´s sad, not only Gwen´s album situation, but the market´s situation
-
um
sweet escape has hard sales of over 1.2 million
only!!!! that´s really sad
-
Yes, and it broke their top 20 run at 21, which started with Can You Forgive Her and ended with Minimal! Anyway, why they chose to release Numb is beyond me...
because it´s a beautiful ballad: inmtegral would have been a better choice, but numb it´s great too

you can watch it here:
