  1. This is so ignorant, I don't even know where to start.

Say that to the face of my adopted friends.

These countries need help obviously, but there's alot that must be changed within poor countries aswell, not just aid from rich countries can make these changes, their whole system and way of thinking must be changed basically. It's nothing that will be made in just a couple of years and MILLIONS of children will die till that die (may?) come! But according to your logic they should be left there to die then...

At the moment I don't see what's bad with someone actually giving a kid a better life.

Sorry but I have nothing more to add to that ignorant comment. You make it look so easy, while it's not.

And about the documentary. It's sick that he compare building orphanages to colonialism! I mean this man is sick seriously. How the media is treating is is just SICK!

Adopting a child is evil and bad? Building orphanages and schools in poor countries is colonialism?

What do these people want? That the children should just die without any international help? Because that would be the result if these journalists wishes would come true.

You're being very naive and don't ever call me ignorant when you have never met me and I have watched the documentary to make an informed opinion. I never said adopting a child is evil and bad. I have adopted friends too but they weren't taken away from one culture, adopted by one of the most famous people in the world to then spend the formative years of their lives in the eyes of a press in a world completely alien to 99% of the worlds population. My friends didn't have any other relatives either unlike both these children who seem to have extensive families.

Her grandmother was going to adopt in the true sense of the word. That is fine. I've absolutely no problems with that - her own family taking her into a familiar environment. Secondly, the children weren't dying either. Just because they were in Africa, it doesn't mean they are all dying left, right and centre. Yes, they are poor but they had families there. Could Madonna have sponsored the children and left them with their families throughout their lifetimes. I think that would have been better.

It's great they are supporting the country but I can't see the point of singling two kids out WHO STILL HAVE FAMILY. At least if they were true orphans then they wouldn't be leaving behind family members who will rarely get to see them. Madonna will be one of the better celeb mothers but it will be a massive culture shock for them and what about when they are adults? Would they want to return home? Would their families want to come to the US? It throws up so many questions.

  2. Srry but she does have a strong voice, just not in a whitney houston kind of way. i hear tons of power in her voice when i hear her sing.

Yes, I remember everyone being amazed when she sang "You Must Love Me" on S&S tour. Mother and Father of RIT was good too. Perhaps she just needs to sit down more often, poor old dear.

I suppose the explosion of youtube in the last few years mean we can see live recordings of tours in their raw form. It's only a few years ago where the only copy we would hear would be the highly tweaked final video version. Now we can see every performance in all its unedited glory. When you are at a live event, the vocals are never so clear that you can hear the faults.

  3. :D 600,000 Viewers

    PITIFUL

To be fair, it was a lousy and odd time to have it. I thought it was at 9.00 but it was at 8.00 on a Monday night? It was up against primetime viewing and the Andy Murray match. Although I do think that Madonna is not that great a TV draw now anyway from a personal life point of view. Everyone knows her life story and knows she can put on a great show so she can sell out a huge tour but what really is there left to know about her life that interests the general public? I doubt if a similar documentary about Brangelina would have pulled in much more either.

I think this is one of those subjects the press are more interested in than the general public.

  4. As it said in the documentary, neither of the children are orphans. In Malawi, "orphanages" are often places where people put their children if they are having a tough time in the hope that things will get better and they can return to their families in two or three years.

And yes, I am against the adoptions - I think it would be better to sponsor a child in their own community through to university or support a community to develop and provide for themselves.

  5. The fact that Secret is missing leads me to believe the tracklist is wrong - it was the lead single off BS and I can't see why she would miss it out but put Fever on even though I prefer Fever myself.

I wasn't fussed about Iconography. I thought it lacked the humour of The Immaculate Collection. However, if the title is Hits, I think that will be incredibly lame.

I've not heard Mimi's record at all here in the UK. I think the US chart set up distorts her actual popularity. Her singles generally do a lot less well than Madonna's now and it's been a few years since she has actually had a mega hit. She's a big star but not in the league of Madonna or MJ.

  6. Yes, Van Den Bosch is definitely a sinister character but I think it is more likely he greased the wheels of the adoption than trying to brainwash the whole nation with Kabollox.

There are some dubious goings on like potentially taking the land without paying for it but overall I think it comes down to some very rich westerners trying to help a very poor nation and trying to provide some kind of moral guidance too. Just like Christianity before it. The documentary is over dramatising it like it's a cult of devil worshippers.

I don't think taking kids out of their native countries is necessarily a good thing but looking at Lourdes and Rocco on IGTTYAS, they seem pretty well adjusted and well brought up kids so out of all the celebrities to adopt, I think Madonna is probably one of the much better parents.

I'm bored of it now though - the tennis is much better!

  7. This is not showing her in a good light AT ALL. Wimbledon is on the other side so luckily no one will be watching this.

    I'll be checking out C4 + 1

I must admit though, some of the documentaries on Channel 4 are rather biased and I wouldn't say they now have the credibility of a BBC documentary. They used to be credible but the channel is becoming a joke and I think they sensationalise content more than they used to.

Whilst I am not a fan of her adoptions, I think Madonna is a hate figure for much of the British serious media and I don't think she would be given due respect.

  8. Radio 1 didn't say that. They usually check their facts unlike the delusional Kay Burley. Radio 1 said Jackson's camp were spouting a figure of 104 million but Guinness estimates sales at 65 million MAX.

Of course MJ's output has been a lot less, even though his career stretches a longer time span. 750 million is way off the mark. By SEVERAL HUNDRED MILLION.

On the day after his death, Radio 1's newsbeat report definitely said 100 Million for Thriller. I remember it as the bloke doing the report could barely string a sentence together and most of it sounded like it was cobbled together at the last minute just spouting soundbites and platitudes. Shockingly amateurish. I think they got one of the muppets from One Extra to make it sound more street and relate to the yoof.

However, I was reading today that sales after the death of artists such Elvis, Kurt Cobain, Tupac Shakur and so on rocket so he could make that figure if his sales are handled well enough. Elvis' sales were supposedly 150M before death and now 1 billion although, once again, we have to trust lazy-arsed journalists who just go straight to wikipedia.

  9. Kay Burley on Sky News said that not even Madonna comes close to him in terms of sales.

Supposedly, his sales are around 750million but I get the feeling everyone has just rushed to wikipedia to get the figures and they may have been exaggerated by fans. Radio 1 said Thriller sold over 100million sales! However, it had only sold 40 million ten years ago. I don't think 60 million people have gone out and bought it in the last ten years!

He's not had that many albums out and his single sales are below Madonna's in the UK.

Anyone got anymore accurate figures for his sales?

And yes, it's easier for male artists to be taken more seriously than female. Madonna's back catalogue is superior in terms of breadth and variety. Michael's legacy was the biggest selling album of all time and some choreography but overall he stayed in the same mould from a creative perspective.

  10. I love this album - it's one of my faves. Love Tried To Welcome Me is superb and I can't believe it didn't make Something To Remember instead of Forbidden Love which is a bit dreary.

Inside of Me is also a beautiful song. I love the way the album ends with Sanctuary and Bedtime Story too. Bedtime Story still gets criticised but I think it is beautiful track, beautifully produced and a great video.

I must admit, I'm still not a big fan of the artwork and the Secret Single cover was an odd choice too. I would swap Don't Stop with Your Honesty too as I think the latter is a stronger track.

Overall, I love the whole era from '92 - '95 as it produced many of my most favourite M songs and videos.

  11. I find it odd that people say "Human Nature" - it's such a forgetable song considering his range of work.

I'd like her to do something fun like PYT although it is another lesser known hit. I suspect the battle to get the good songs will be great if this does happen.

As for fans, there will always be the real hardcore ones who hate another artist being consider better than their favourite. Lord knows, there are several on here who can't bare any discussion about Madonna. And it does have to be said that there have been enough news reports showing some really psycho Jacko fans. Release the doves, woman! He did attract some loons. However, I think most people are adult enough to be at a rememberance concert and not boo.

I don't Madonna will make another statement until her tour starts. She's very good at not jumping on bandwagons just to be seen to say something.

  12. I think even non Madonna fans would recognise her place as the number one female artist of all time and pay her due respect. She got a lot of respect for her Live8 appearance and in the circumstances I think there would be a lot of love in the audience.

As for which songs she could sing, Human Nature wasn't a worldwide release so I doubt that would be picked. I do think she could do Bille Jean and Like A Virgin reprise. I think she would choose something like Beat It too. Classic, rocky and before he went off the rails.

  13. Madonna has managed to maintain the production of striking videos. I must admit, after Black or White, you just don't see his videos anymore. If you look at the news, it's the 80s stuff that is shown. Certainly in the UK, his 90s videowork hasn't faired well and most people couldn't tell you about any of them - they just becamse expensive and bloated. I remember seeing "Remember the Time", a song I love, but the video is some over the top Egyptian theme but not actually that exciting.

As for Prince, anyone that saw him at his 21 night sellout concert at the O2 will know he's up there with MJ and Madonna in terms of musicianship and back catalogue but his legacy will be challenging the record companies in the 90s and his early adoption of new distributions for his music. His sales may have dropped but managing the distribution directly meant he was keeping all the profit and not having to give anything to record companies.
