  1. She probably saw the reaction on people's faces every night for six months with the look of disappointment when she performed HU as she doesn't normally listen to anybody.

I hope it is a version of the Calderone mix but I can't believe she is dropping HU unless she is bored singing it.

I can't wait to see the final setlist although I can't believe it is only two weeks away and it isn't already finalised! Hopefully, there will be some demos too!!!!!!!

  2. [strawberryBounce12]Not true. Janet scored 7 Top 5 hits from Rhythm Nation 1814 during that time and that made her an international superstar and one of the best selling artists ever. Janet owned 1990 and that is a fact. I don't see why you guys always have to bash Janet, I mean I love M and I always give her credit, but 1990 was not her year. If you ask anyone on the street if Madonna or Janet were more successful in 1990, of course they will say Janet.[/strawberryBounce12]

She might have owned 1990 in the US but certainly not in the UK - Vogue and Justify My Love were landmark songs and the Blonde Ambition Tour took tours to a new level and features iconic performances whilst Janet's singles did ok here but if you ask any English person if they remember Escapade, Black Cat or even Miss You Much, you will probably get blank looks. Ask them about Vogue and Justify My Love and they will instantly know Madonna. Rhythm Nation has not left a legacy of work that the casual members of the public would remember here.

PS: I like Janet and have a lot of her work but she was just not that big over here. Kylie also surpassed Janet in terms of performance. 93 in the UK might have been better as That's The Way Love Goes was doing well and Madonna was getting panned with Erotica but even then Madonna stole the headlines.

  3. I remember the show - MC Hammer came on with loads of dancers and was leaping around in his hideous harem pants. It was loud and brash.

Madonna comes on and completely blows his performance out of the water with this stunning rendition and was pure class.

And yes, I still look at the fan toss and think 'what if she drops it this time'!!!!

  4. I understand that VIP packages have to include a good seat but Icon members deserve better treatment than they get. I was offered block C in the pre sale and now they releasing they

block B tickets they couldnt shift as VIP packages. Surely LN can project how many VIP packages they will sell at each show and share them evenly with the Icon presale. Icon members pay a yearly

subsciption and expect to be offered decent seats otherwise whats the point the of being a member? The free gift? The newsletters?

Where are the block B tickets? I couldn't see them coming up?

  5. I take what this guy says with a pinch of salt. From what I see of his and Madonna's interaction with the fans, it's purely to be seen to be doing something. We voted for Impressive Instant as a single and got WIFLFAG and so many other promises to the fans since that seem to just fade away!

  6. One of my favourite all time M songs and videos. Absolutely love it and love the bootleg extended mixes that contain the extra unreleased bridge. The video is great - clubbing, driving that fantastic Merc, dark voodoo stuff in the basement. Although she doesn't necessarily look her best, I love her in it. Fantastic!

  7. It charted for one week with zero airplay. Not sure how this can be more dissected than it already had been.

I think that's popularity only, and it probably comes from the fact that "GI2M" was a later single. "4M" sold more than twice as "GI2M" in the UK.

eh?!?! That's popularity only? That is the point - 4M sold more than twice that GI2M in the Uk yet on iTunes, it is showing GI2M as way out in front...

Surely, if 4M sold many more copies then its iTunes popularity should exceed that of GI2M?

Or does the iTunes popularity thing not just mean downloads or is there a time thing involved?

  8. I can't believe there are no accurate sales for US singles! Surely they know how many were shipped and sold?

It's so interesting to see the actual single sales - like Angel selling more than Express Yourself! Although the UK market varies wildly throughout the seasons with post Christmas and summer notoriously slack - had Vogue and Into The Groove been released in the Christmas run up they would have certainly sold a million.

  9. I love the Peter Rauhofer mix of American Life - the booming fog horn throughout - an edit of that would do. The Dirty Vegas mix of DAD would also do - I do think the album should be represented.

Also, the Miami Mix of DCFMA would be good. Evita really was the start of Madonna coming out of a critical backlash and the mix is fun and upbeat. YMLM is a dirge and although good live would just kill a compilation's flow.

  10. I was looking at the UK iTunes and GI2M is way out in front in terms of sales. 4M is quite a way behind although overall, 4M was number one and sold loads and GI2M got to No.7 - still sold ok.

I can't work out why GI2M seems to have sold so many more on iTunes here although I personally prefer it.

  11. I think the GH will do a lot better than some people expect. Madonna's back catalog is seriously lacking in the greatest hits department and she is not featured on any of the 80's compilations that are so big at the moment. There are a lot of 30 something non fans that I know who will buy this greatest hits. If it's anything like ABBA Gold it could end up selling really well especially now when album sales are shrinking, it's the kind of CD people will want to buy.

I'm not so sure. Abba had been out of the charts for over ten years when Gold was released. People had time to get over them and miss them. Secondly, The Immaculate Collection pretty much covers all the songs most casual fans are bothered about.

Interestlingly, in a time of recession, new music and fashion comes to the fore. People want change. Lady GaGa, Little Boots, La Roux are all new exciting females that are coming through. Madonna needs to go away for a couple of years - make people miss her.

I remember 1988 being a very empty year without her - she came storming back with Like A Prayer and it was great.

  12. Warner's are still at odds with youtube over payments for videos. It's not just Madonna - they are removing all their artists work as they don't think youtube is paying them enough royalities.

The video is pleasant enough but too little too late. I don't think we will ever find out why the release was so badly managed.

  13. America radio just seems stuck in a rut of the same old music - RnB, Hip Hop, whiney rock chicks. People get their music in other ways now. Just look at the number of hits Madonna gets on youtube.

Madonna gets hits where charts are based on sales - is American radio becoming redundant now? I think they have been slow to get with the digital era.

  14. "Get Together" peaks:

    #1 Spain & Hungary

    #2 Italy

    #7 UK

    #4 Canada

    #6 Finland

Top 20 Hit: Denmark, Greece, EURO 100, Sweden, Netherlands, Ireland, and Australia

    Not quite everywhere...

Although it faired relatively ok, everyone wanted "Jump" as the next single. It was one of the favourites from the start. Like "Impressive Instant" and "Beat Goes On", another single was chosen over the one fans really wanted and consequently we end up with a third single that nobody but fans would remember.

  15. It was interesting what was being said about albums - I've just looked at Hard Candy on iTunes for the UK as it stands now. GI2M was by far the most popular song, then 4M trailing way behind, then Miles Away and other songs selling pretty much equally in much lower quantities.

The concept of the album is so engrained in the older fans that they seem to have missed how the market has shifted since iTunes have made it possible to buy any track without wasting money on fillers. Young people don't need to buy any other than the song they like. I think the album concept will die away and a more production line of singles will take their place. People make their own playlists.

If the money is in touring, it's more important for a new artist to present a range of songs to perform. Artists like Madonna having a vast back catalogue on which to draw and can just add one or two songs for each tour.

  16. I checked Ticketmaster earlier, they have just added Block C row V for £175 a seat. Obviously they adding in another row in an attempt to

squeeze a bit more out of her fans. There is no way those seats should be £175.

    There is a row W too - I got row V if I wanted fan membership and row W if I didn't :)

I think you will find seats pretty much right the way to the back go up to £175. Pretty bad but the view will be way better all round than the Wembley one. I would say it's nearly half the size.

  17. Put your handbags down ladies...

It wouldn't surprise me if this turns up on Madonna's youtube page just before the tour kicks off by way of a launch for the second leg. Yes, there are still tickets - I found tickets for block C1 on both nights at the O2 yesterday. Secondly, now we have digital sales, songs don't have to have a big re-release - theoretically, this song could be promoted back into the charts although I doubt it would happen in the UK as I think people are generally underwhelmed by Madonna at the moment.

As for the Into The Groove video - I don't think it could be called "slapdash"! Whoever did it, spent a lot of time getting the clips to match the music even getting it to look like she is saying some of the words. That is very good video and was perfect for promoting the single. Still one of my favourite vids of hers. Dress You Up is also cool. We never got the tour in the Uk so it was amazing to see that when it first came out. I was sooo jealous!

  18. Forums are all about discussion and should not be a place where people who voice an opinion are shouted down - it's a place for reasoned discussion.

I can see why people could feel fed up with some of the HC era but I think last year was just a crap year for her personally whilst she was heavily touring. By the end, I imagine she just wanted to walk away for some down time.

Considering her total lack of involvement in GHV2, I'm really impressed with the enthusiasm she has shown for the forthcoming GH. I do feel like autumn will have her much more involved with projects after a difficult year.

As for her behaviour being forced or contrived, I think that is more about our awareness of how celebrity works; virtually every news piece I see now for anyone famous I just see as a piece of PR or some rubbish journalist just filling some space. I don't read celebrity stories anymore - I just come here for info on her music but I just don't care about her relationships etc.

  19. If a mix becomes a classic then I'm for it on a Greatest Hits collection - so the dance mix of Express Yourself is a superb addition and I prefer it to the original. However, the LAP remixes did not become real classics that crossed over to the mainstream. They should have had the 7" version with the guitar ending instead.

As for radio stations playing the IC versions, that's only because they are lazy updating their databases - they can just use one album instead of having a variety of albums stored.

The Confessions Tour mix of Erotica would be a great addition - it's not a non-fan favourite and the remix has proved a total hit on the tour so it would be great if that appeared.

  20. I don't see what MJ has to do with the whole thing.

Obviously a GH won't get any huge attention, but a new song might do. And that goes without saying that the excitement towards a Madonna release these days is among the fans, probably because the non-fans never even heard about "Revolver", or maybe because in 2009 GH's are beyond irrelevant...

Her shows and his shows in London are so close but whether his shows happen is going to be such a massive talking point, I'm wondering if Madonna will be overlooked. I think it is too soon for a new single. Hard Candy is barely a year old and MA flopped that I think from a general PR point of view, she won't get a look in. Autumn might be a better time as I doubt he will still be touring by then :electropop:
