At least this settles the argument about it being a Greatest Hits compilation too as some people here have been adament about it not being one and it is retrospective instead. I wonder if that will affect the tracklisting - obviously, they will have to be flexible with the term otherwise it will be very 80s heavy and most of the 90s and 00s wouldn't be represented if it just followed the US chart placings! :dramatic:

  2. Hmm well that's true, except some of her original single mixes haven't been released on CD - let alone in remastered sound. If a GH is done well enough, then you won't have to burn your own.

I love that Everybody is included (the single mix is very rare, of course), but that probably means the elusive original edit of Lucky Star won't be on it. :(

I have that edit. I managed to find last year - is it that rare?

As for Everybody, the US and UK edits are different. The UK edit has extra drums but I think they went overboard and I doubt they would use that.

  3. Is this the single cover??

When I saw the original cover, I immediately thought of this pic which I would prefer so it's great that it's going to be used! I have the original magazine with it - I think it was The Face and it's such a striking cover. The pic hardly ever gets seen so I'm glad they have dug it out.

This shot to me is more ballsy and more Madonna. The other looks like she is preparing to be shot and is bored. This one looks like she means business!

As for the supposed tracklist - looks fine but I won't know what to think until we find out whether remastered tracks means remixed or just tweaked.

Sooooo exciting though. I too think that Warner's have finally got their act together just as she is walking out the door. Cue "Physical Attraction"!

  4. The cover for “Celebration” was created by street pop artist “Mr. Brainwash” who is best known for “throwing modern cultural icons into a blender and turning it up to eleven.”

That quote is right up with Spinal Tap's speakers going to eleven. Not ten. Eleven!

  5. Yeah, the DVD is definitely a great surprise!

I guess it's impossible that they would release a compilation of her 50 videos, but it could still be a cool DVD. I will be mostly the TIC DVD videos (since it's deleted as well) and the Music/COADF/HC videos, but what unreleased stuff? Would Madonna herself want "JML", "Erotica" or even "AL"?

Also, will "Hollywood" be ignored because of the lawsuit? If I'm not wrong it was not even shown on tv anymore after that...

That's probably because nobody cares about the song, not because of a lawsuit!

I'm not expecting anything on the DVD except stuff like Deeper and Deeper and Everybody that never made it to other compilations. Still, a much more positive vibe about this project than GHV2 which seemed like Madonna was dragged kicking and screaming to do any promotion by Warner's.

  6. I wouldn't say it's original - it's very now in it's styling - I mean T-shirts in this punky style have been around for a couple of years with the pink and yellow. Even the London Olympics original logo is from the same style.

It wouldn't have been the first shot of her I would have chosen but I am just pleased that they seem to be putting in lots of effort to promote the whole package. I hope there is a vinyl LP of it though.

  7. I wonder if Deeper and Deeper will finally get a video release? I can't imagine the banana eating scene being too controversial now. Burning Up has also not been released on DVD. I doubt we will get any film soundtrack videos.

2 CD set though is good news.

As for the cover, out of all the shots of her that could have been used, it wouldn't have been my first choice but there we go. However, it wouldn't surprise me if there are more than one cover at least for the two different CDs.

  8. The whole point of it is that it is ordinary. Did you all not get that? Its an album that is essentially a celebration of living. Much like her whole career is...But I think the idealistic hedonism that MUSIC initiated as iconography totally suited the album and the era that ensued. I personally think no title could have fitted the album better...

It's not an album that I think of as a celebration of living - the single maybe but not the whole album. But like most things, it is all open to personal opinion and each person's views should be respected.

Paradise (Not for Me) would have worked equally as well if they had gone with a different art concept. Amazing would have worked well in place of Music. WIFLFAG would have been a great title too. In fact, may of the song titles could have worked as the album title. It's just that we are used to it now like all her other ones.

I'm just not bothered about song titles - it's the actual song that is important. Don't Stop was fine as a title but has the worst lyrics - "sing ladidahdi"

  9. "Erotica" had most of its lyrics removed, "Deeper And Deeper" had a new melody, both of them are almost brand new songs in those incarnations. Coincidentally both of the originals were on GHV2, it's not like she ever dug "Bad Girl" out or something.

"Rain" was only half of the chorus in an interlude video. Also, from all of her studio albums, it's only Erotica & AL that didn't have any live performances on the current tour.

They were still used in one form or another though. I just don't believe she has a problem with either of these albums. Yeah, they are not used on S&S tour but she's dropped Hung Up now and there is no COADF either but I don't think she has ditched that album either. It's just she has such a large back catalogue to choose from. She can't represent every album, every time.

I will be pleased when the bloody tracklist is released and then people can get on whinging about that instead beating the shit out of anyone who makes a suggestion one way or another.

  10. I can EXCLUSIVELY reveal that the name of the single was changed at the last minute because Madonna did not feel it appropriate to release a song called Celebrate after such a tragic accident in Paris last week, when people were killed and seriously injured at her concert. In fact Madonna herself tole me that she wanted to scrap the release altogether and replace it with a re-release of her 1992 smash, This Used To Be My Fairground. After much persuasion from record company execs, she agreed that this was not a good idea and relented on the proviso that the track be renamed. This is also the reason for the delayed release date - they'd already begun to press the original CDs so look out for some very rare items surfacing on auction sites soon.

    UNTIL NEXT TIME

    :abuse:

14th Sept is a long way a way. I don't like it when they release a song to radio too soon because people are bored of it or have illegally downloaded it before it is even out.

  11. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess. But given that in the years since the releases of both Erotica and American Life she's tended to handle most of the songs like soiled diapers - at arm's length, in rubber gloves, and with a pair of tongs - I think it's probably safe to assume that there won't be teasers featuring images or music from either album.

Erotica, Deeper and Deeper and Rain have all featured on recent tours - I think she is very proud of both bodies of work. Just because the reception wasn't great, does not mean to say that she doesn't like them.

I didn't think I would ever see the day when she would sing Material Girl again but she did. If she can pull that one out of the bag, I think anything else from her back catalogue could spring up (except American Pie which would be pushing it :dramatic: ).

  12. Hi

I personally believe that ALL True Blue singles should be included in this collection...

If there is any album in her career which spawned consistent massive worldwide hits with all single releases then it is True Blue...

I would love to be a fly on the wall throughout the tracklisting dicussions...

I just wish/hope they are using a traditional 'method' to compile the tracklisting of a greastest hits. That way it shouldn't really matter if they include 'only' 1 track from BS but 4 tracks from LAP, nothing from AL but 5 tracks from TB...

A hit is a hit regardless of what era/album it comes from and therefore thats what should be represented on this album and if that means bypassing some of her work e.g. AL in favour of bigger/older hits then so be it...

Can't wait for the official tracklist to be revealed no doubt there will be some odd inclusions e.g. YMLM over DCFMA!

    Anyway hope i'm making sense!

    Kev

I assume you are looking at it from a US chart perspective. If you follow the British charts, one of her largest markets, every single she has had has gone top 40 since Like A Virgin. Every single from LAV except MA has gone Top 20 and a majority have gone top 10 - around 60 singles. It just won't happen that every single will be included. A two disc set is the most we could expect.

  13. It made it to number 4 in December, when there were loads of novelty records in the chart and it pushed True Blue ahead of Brothers In Arms to be the biggest selling album on 1986, so to say it wasn't loved is wrong.

Not wrong at all. I mean it isn't loved in the UK in the way other songs by her are loved. The guys from the US here seem to have such a fondness for OYH that just doesn't seem so apparent on this side of the pond. As for pushing ahead of Brothers in Arms, that album was released in May '85 so after 18 months of release, I would expect TB to push ahead.

Must admit, this was funny ten years ago but everyone has done it now including the Spice Girls so time to ditch the drag queens persona stuff. It would be better if it were just Madonna fans dressed up rather than professionals. More fun.

Still, I will look forward to the Madonna bits.

  15. I say thay should suppress TIC /GHV2 ONLY digitally at least for now

a couple of things about TRUE BLUE .. the make my video contest was only in the US ...IN THE REST of we all got the "car video" it was cute and simple , also TB was a bigger hit than LIB that song has grown in stature due to time and inclusion on many tours . At the time of TB release it was another HUGE single by Madonna .. no one expected OYH to come an overshadow it.

23 yrs later EVERYONE remembers PDP and OYH but at the time critcs praised the 60s retro pop feel of TB. I hard to believe now that madge had so many big singles back to back that they were stepping on each other ; I think in the hits collection they should acknowledge that and put the hits that some may have "forgot" .

In the UK, Open Your Heart has not overshadowed TB. From reading posts here, clearly OYH was a huge hit in the US but in the UK I don't think it is nearly as loved. The video is remembered for it's basque but TB and LIB are equally remembered and from a song perspective, probably more popular. They were both No.1s here too whereas OYH only made it to No.4.

If she only put LTT, TB and LIB on, I don't think there were be too much argument over here for dropping the others.

  16. the funny thing is that Guy O asked on twitter what song needs to be on the record .... that shows you that he probably doesn't even know Madonna's catalogue! ahahahhaah

I think that anything he does is a token gesture for the fans and I don't think the majority of what we say has any reflection on the final result. Madonna releases what she wants to release. I'm sure if there was an astonishing amount of votes for American Life, she would go for it but if it were something like True Blue, I think she would just decide her own way.

I'm not sure where I stand on True Blue. Ultimately, I've got every bloody version of every single anyway so I am more interested on whether anything is being remixed and the new songs.
