Same here. Crave in particular is perfect the way it is. Doesn't need all the "extra" that Mirwais would bring......I'm not dissing him in ANY way because he has helped create some of the best music of her career with this album. Totally agree though, a full album with him may have been overkill. It's nice to have some variety. *warning* I'm giving a "friend" story....lol....so, I was at my cousins pool on Sunday and she and her friend and myself were swimming and I put on MX and the ONLY song both of them actually started to sing/hum along to was Crave. I truly think in another day and time, this song (in the US anyways) would've been a TAB sized hit. At the end of it all though, my cousin did say she thought the album was good and she liked the variety on it.

To me, Crave is the only obvious single on this album. I know many will say God Control but.......as brilliant as it is, one of the best of her career in fact, it's NOT single material (again, at least in the US)....it's WAY too "out there" and not a song most can immediately relate to. It's a song that's made to make you think.....typically, songs like that aren't the best single choices. Not that it matters what she releases as a single these days but just sayin.

Oh God I totally agree Mr.Kurt!!

I adore a Mirwais and his work on X is gorgeous. It's innovative, modern and so interesting but there is room for other inventors on the album not all the songs require the Mirwais touch.

I don't think X offers many single choices. She has produced an album with artistry at the fore front of her mind and the journey has ended up in a marvel album full of interesting songs that have unique structures and out there sounds.

I agree with you Crave is about the only one that is obviously single material. It's so radio friendly and had it of been a decade ago without ageism and the radio block she has now it would of impacted. I agree God Control feels like the front runner as the chorus and disco vibe is so infectious the structure of the song and the subject matter just aren't made for the masses vs something like Music or Hung Up that are both very obvious leading pop singles.

When you line up the Madonna albums on the shelf MX stands out and holds it own as a really unique and bold statement of work from an artist who is at her creative best. It's a work to be proud of. We have had 25 years dominance and commercial peaks (peaks from a female at 50 in pop which is still un-rivalled thank you very much ) and now we can enjoy her trying her hand at interesting projects like MX and the up and coming theatre tour.

I marvel at M and her incredible career because unlike so many of her contempories, when you reflect on her 35 years of work thus far your not looking back at 1 artist your looking back at 10 different women. So many feathers to her jacket.....yet again 2019 has put another feather to that jacket.

She continues to be the ultimate Queen of Pop. Who comes close ? Nobody baby.

The best promo (for the album and tour)would be to live stream her show on you tube world wide at the beginning. Can you imagine? Heaven!

I'd love a live broadcast but those days are over !

Madonna loves to edit and add filters etc. of her shows before she is willing to broadcast them to anybody.

That was my only concern as well and that's what I pointed it out. In rest, everything was perfect for me.

But no, if it happens to express a little dissatisfaction, you're just a whining bitch.

Haha I've been labelled a lot worse 😘 we can handle it !!

It's just reflection upon a brilliant era we got lots of great bits and pieces it's just some of the bits could of been joined up better only in terms of promotion....still love her still love MX she's still the most interesting female pop star to  far in 2019.

Madonna promoted the album for 2 months straight. We have FIVE music videos at this point.........COME ON!

Let's say Madonna was focusing heavily on album promo instead of tour rehearsals....then come tour time when everything isn't 150% everyone will be like "she didn't rehearse enough". Give the woman a fucking break for once. My God.

I said this long before the album was ever released but these days, no matter what she does, it's NEVER *quite* good enough. ALWAYS needs to be something more.

I agree to a certain extent.

It matters not how much M appears on TV/magazines/radio interviews her inclusion on charts (or lack of) will remain the same so I understand her scaling back from the amount of personal promo she put in for RH were she made a fair amount of appearances/performances....obviously the leak didn't help but even so she won't get played on the radio.

She has concentrated on extremely high standards of visuals this era. The artwork/videos are some of her best work really has paid attention to the details it has further cemented her place as one of musics most formidable artists.

My only gripe is no live performances on her TV spots. That was a shame. It would of served her better in terms of more people actually hearing the new songs especially when radio won't play them. Her spot on Graham Norton and Fallon would of been perfectly rounded off with a live performance of something from the album.....she could of done what she did on Pride but scaled down and it would of had a positive boost on the albums eventual sales over some chit chat....she already had those performances planned so it wouldn't of been anything new to rehearse.

Not counting the Eurovision which has been debated to death.

..but that said I can't wait for this tour it really is going to be something special. Knowing what Madonna has been capable of in a stadium setting (She has has set the goal posts for the standard in the industry) means she has arrived at the theatre doors and she means buianess.

It's time to send a second single on the radio in Uk and other european countries. It could be Crave or Crazy.

I don't thing singles are a part of this era. She has produced some stunning videos to promote the album but I don't think there has been a singles strategy.

She hasn't performed Crave on her limited live performances this era and it is supposed to be the 2nd single.

I think it's been more about getting as much of the album out there as possible to promote its different flavours over pushing a certain song/single for hit single success.

I'm confused why God Control isn't being pushed as a single, at least in Europe.

I don't think there are any singles this era. She has produced some great videos and released them as promo for the album but singles are not part of the plan.

Crave was supposed to be the 2nd single but she hasn't performed it anywhere on her recent limited live performances.

It's been said that originally the Graham Norton thing at the theater was meant to be a TV special with performances (even the signs outside the event alluded to this) but somehow it was cancelled and they had to put her last minute with the Yesterday cast, sir Ian McGandalf and Sheryl Crow to have something -anything!- in the way of UK TV promotion.

That would explain it if true.

The only thing that truly slightly perplexed me about the roll out for this era is the fact that for the first time she didn't have exclusive billing of a UK talk show

I found this very odd indeed.

Surly she still commands the full hour ?

Maybe it's because she hasn't performed this time round on her TV spots......perhaps if she had agreed to perform some songs she could of negotiated a full show to herself ?

Her appearance on Graham Norton with the other guests I felt had a negative impact on how good the interview could of been. Had she of been 1-1 with Graham it would of been better.....it felt awkward and forced at times the inter cutting with other guests didn't really flow naturally like it usually does on his shows.

But like Madonna said she's not used to sharing coaches and she wasn't about to pretend she was getting used it.

  9. Absolutely amazing moment.

It kind of feels like the shining moment in the era, the costumes, the attitude, the first time we have heard those smogs played live....and yet this wasn't professionally filmed and broadcast.....feels such a shame like one the best things about this era isn't available in ll its glory.

  10. Wow. Simply wow.

This is incredible. The editing, the texts, the quote, the realism, the protest footage. It really does pack a punch every second is beautiful there really isn't any time wasted. You can really feel her frustration, her anger and her deep emotional plea throughout. It isn't nasty in its graphics either, it's actually very subliminal the actual gunshot scenes.

I love her typing at her typewriter throughout like she is narrating the story as she ponders the state of humanity. It doesn't feel preachy like the secret project did, as gorgeous as it was, this simply feels like an artist who really does care about the insane state of gun violence in America.

The song is brilliantly cut and edited into the footage as well. I can understand why it's taken the time it has to finish. For me it stands up as one of her best videos to date and in the midst of all pop videos we get normally this is a statement of epic proportions.

I can see it's trending and being talked about and that matters. I think it paints her perspective of gun crime beautifully without ego and without feeling like she's doing any of it to sell the song or even her....I'm just playing devils advocate when I say that as we know people attack her for being self indulgent.

10/10 Madonna I am simply utterly impressed with this. In one simple word the video is sublime. And for all the right reasons.

    Gun Control Now. ✌🏽

Blaming Eurovision though....I must question, realistically, it's been a month since that happened......so even if she'd had a stellar performance that was praised, would anyone remember that now??

Just saying......a month in 2019 is like 2 yrs in 20th century time....lol

I think these would have been the numbers regardless. The UK clearly has a stick up their ass when it comes to M these days......that's no secret....and it was apparent LONG before Eurovision ever happened.

I think had she of performed on TV let's say on GN or every an exclusive on the One Show it would of massively helped as the only live performance in the general U.K. Publics minds is the Eurovision.

But I agree with what your saying isn't everything she needed to do some live performances for the UK to help the album.

  12. This is all getting a bit heavy isn't it you bunch of queens !?

Cut to the chase artistic choices or not gay PRIDE is a huge celebratory occasion that has tried to bag Madonna for years and finally the 2 historic things are coming together for the very first time....

....of course it's a shock to hear she is playing American Life, considering her incredible back catalogue it isn't a natural fit for such an event. That's not me mocking her artistic message at all it's just basic common sense.

I applauded her message at the Eurovision it was just the performance that went with it that was boring and not very entertaining. She has created an album with some absolute amazing strong songs that would translate incredibly for big crowds yet she is choosing Furtue and I Rise,  they are not crowd pleasers.

I totally get Madame X is in full political mode and that's fantastic M has always been more than just a pop star but she still is a pop star who has made a pop album, essentially, so I don't think it's fair to dismiss fans for being shocked at her choice of set list for this event.

But Pride is an event to be enjoyed by the crowds and let's not pretend Madonna has always gone against the grain when it comes to performances at events, she was the Queen of Pop to everybody for decades because she knew how to appeal to the masses and how to retain that appeal. It's a load of bollocks to say she has always stuck 2 fingers up at that hard earned appeal because she hasn't.

Its her choice yes and I will look forward to her set but she chose to record huge stomper songs on X yet she isn't playing them live which is incredibly odd.

It's like her releasing Confessions in 2005 and only giving love/performing Push at the award ceremonies and public events.....

American Life is a stupid song and says absolutely nothing about pride. It’s a song about Madonna being disillusioned with fame. It’s pretty reviled song for a reason.

Wanna talk about pride? Vogue and Express Yourself fit way better. Instead she chooses that bullshit song that everyone has been trying to forget for 16 years.

    This.

The song itself is a million miles away from Pride lyrically I get the inclusion of I Rise, as boring as the song is compared to others but it does fit Pride, but AL is just all out bizarre.

I can only assume she has picked it because of the video and furthering the political Madonna headlines with the use of the song.
