This was based on the vocal elements of each party and is the reason why we ended up with a postal vote. During the "campaign" many Liberal politicians were pushing the message that their "conservative" electorates were in favor of traditional marriage including the former PM Tony Abbott (who's electorate returned one of the highest yes votes I believe). Basically both parties were in contrast to what their electorates voted overall.

Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore â who's been accused of sexual misconduct by numerous women, some of whom were underage at the time â continued on the campaign trail Wednesday night, delivering a sermon-style speech at Alabama's Magnolia Springs Baptist Church in which he not only attacked his alleged victims, but also spoke of an alleged plot involving various groups out to get him.
Gathering applause, Moore labeled the scandal a "conspiracy" at the event livestreamed by WBMA, going so far as to bring up a report from pro-Trump news outlet One America News Network that claims his alleged victims have ties to both drug dealers and the Washington Post, the publication to first break the story about the twice-removed judge's sexual abuse accusations.
"They're liberals. They don't hold conservative values," he said of the people he believes are opposing his election. "They are the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender who want to change our culture. They're socialists who want to change our way of life, putting man above God, and the government is our God.
"They're the Washington establishment ... who don't want to lose their power."
"That's right," attendees can be heard saying in response to Moore's tirade.
Demonstrating he may have as much sense of irony as he does decency, Moore told the audience they should "love everyone."
"We should love every person, because he's created in the image of God. It doesn't matter if they're black or white, young or old, rich or poor, doesn't matter," said Moore, who allegedly pursued relationships with girls in their late teens when he was 32.
Those churchgoers aren't the only ones still sticking with the former Alabama chief justice, as President Trump and his former White House strategist and Breitbart executive chairman Steve Bannon have continued to publicly support his efforts.
Bannon has even pledged to travel to the Yellowhammer State to campaign for the candidate â even amid calls to resign by Leigh Corfman, who says Moore made the then-14-year-old touch his genitals days after approaching her at a courtroom while her mother was busy inside at a child custody hearing.
Likewise, literally singing the praises of the Senate candidate at the Magnolia Springs Baptist Church event was Rev. Bill Atkinson, who led the music for the evening and, it turns out, was convicted of trying to stop an investigation that his son allegedly molested Honduran orphans.
With the election less than two weeks away, his Democratic rival, Doug Jones, has appeared to have lost his lead in the polls that he gained when news first broke about Moore's many accusers.
According to AL.com, JMC Analytics and Polling's latest figures suggest Moore has a 5-point lead.
Of the 650 likely voters polled in the automated landline survey, 34% said the allegations had no effect on their opinion, 38% said the claims caused them to be less likely to vote for Moore, while 29% said that hearing the Republican candidate was accused of molesting a young girl made them want to vote for him more.
