Beside the Eurovision rumours. Do you think she wants to go full political with this album. Like she did back then with American life. Maybe not in the lyrics but promo. Video. Tour etc.

I have no doubt she’s going to address some of the political and cultural issues of our time. Trump, #MeToo, and perhaps even the Black Lives Matter movement given the race of her adopted children. But I’d rather her not revolve the entire era around politics since there’s literally no escape from it these days. Trump has seeped through every single fiber of pop culture and I’ve grown so tired of it.

However, I would like to see her explore the #MeToo movement in her visuals for this era. Whether it be on tour or videos. There aren’t many women in the industry - if any - who can talk about this topic in length the way Madonna can. And I’d be interested in hearing stories from her that we haven’t heard before about the blatant misogyny that goes throughout the entertainment world.

Plus - She has a whole slew of songs that could have an entirely new meaning in 2019  that deal with this very topic if she decides to sing them on tour: What It Feels Like For A Girl, Express Yourself, Bad Girl, and even Erotica or Candy Perfume Girl. I’d say Live To Tell could be done from a totally different perspective 30 years later.

But I disagree with those who say she needs to go balls to the walls political. As so many in here say, if she did that, she’d be ‘repeating herself’ since she started the American Life era out in such a blatant political way. And we all know how well that worked out.

I think Trump might be in trouble if a good Republican runs against him and we’ll see a split between the two, just like we saw between Hillary fans and Bernie Bros. If the DNC can take advantage of that, run someone everyone likes in 2020, we could watch Trump go down.

The government shutdown that will last months or even years according to Individual One should also weaken his base. No tax refunds, paychecks for government workers, food assistance, etc should definitely turn his supporters sour.

However, we’ve seen him lock babies in cage camps, pay hush money to porn stars, cheat on his wife, and side with Putin over his own intelligence agencies and he still has supporters.

If it comes out that he IS a Russian agent working for Putin to pay back his debts and to destroy America’s standing in the world and he still has supporters after all that.. oof. Americans have a real puzzle to solve

    Nah.

The Republican base is completely wrapped around his fingers. He rules them with an iron fist. They’re terrified of crossing him because they’ll more than likely garner a primary opponent in their next election. Or face his wrath on Twitter. I was naive to think his own party would keep him in check legislatively. Not even a little bit have they quelled this monsters impulsive and wreak-less behavior. If anything, there are those in congress who fan his worst tendencies.

It’s a fantasy to think Mueller’s report will be this saving grace and all of sudden get republicans to grasp their pearls. If they haven’t done it by now, nothing is going to turn the tide.

  3. Jesus CHRIST.

What a cheap piece of political theater. You’re telling me there wasn’t a single restaurant, catering business, or chef that would’ve gladly obliged to feeding a sports team visiting the White House? And the way he says he had to pay of this on his own.

Despicable and disgusting. Every single week it’s a new low.

  4. After Rebel Heart, and especially at this stage in her career, I don’t really care about commercial success OR awards to be quite honest. Because she achieved neither with an album that really should’ve achieved both. Yeah, yeah, it got solid reviews and it spawned a minor viral hit with BIM, but overall, the album came and went. And if songs like Ghosttown and BIM can’t put a dent in the charts, I honestly don’t know what will.

There isn’t a living icon like Madonna to even compare anything to. Bowie was the closest I suppose. Bruce Springsteen, U2, Cher to some extent I guess. But none of them are on Madonna’s level in terms of shaping pop culture. So who knows what happens in this next era. I have absolutely zero expectations. None. If she garners a viral hit, a quirky video, or amasses a bunch of Grammy nominations for this next album, I’ll be happy as a fucking clam. But if she releases an album and delivers an era anything close to what she did with Rebel Heart, that’ll be just dandy with me. That era and album were pure Magic. Pardon the pun.

  5. Madonna is pop. Pop is dance. Dance is disco. Who gives a shit if she samples another disco song. The Bee Gees have MAGNIFICENT melodies and riffs to die for. I’d LOVE for her to ‘repeat’ herself with another disco era. If anything, she didn’t explore that genre enough with Confessions.

This notion that Madonna doesn’t ‘repeat herself’ is kind of a mythical thing these days. At this point, I’d like her to repeat what worked for her in the past than to add guest stars and rent-a-rappers and Minaj’s and Diplo’s and the ‘IT’ producer of the moment.

This is just nonsense. Though I suspect you're (as usual) looking at it through purely US-centric eyes. Frozen smashed everywhere and announced that Madonna meant business and hadn't lost the knack for reinvention and capturing the zeitgeist after years of floundering in MOR blandness . It was a HIT before it was even released, before any promo kicked in, before it was on constant rotation, before anything. It just has that (h)it factor.

Music was the same only to a lesser extent as she was simply building on the foundations ROL set, and if the foundation was shaky the whole thing would have caved,

The closest she's come since is when the first two RH demos leaked and garnered almost universal positivity and anticipation.... that they went on to piss up the wall.

This is why Madonna needs to stop surrounding herself with yes people, naysayers and doomsday merchants who fill her head with crap about ageism and misogyny and conspiracies instead of dealing with the real issues of quality control, public relations and mismanagement.

    So much YES to this.

Frozen was the the first REAL Madonna ‘event’ for an entirely new generation. Myself included. Those of us who were too young to really grasp anything prior to Frozen being released truly experienced this completely wide eyed and in awe. Everything about it was completely magical and shook the foundations of the music industry, MTV, and pop culture itself. The look. The songs. The image. All of it.

And yes, Frozen was a hit before it was released. The anticipation was EVERY.WHERE. And when it was finally released, even my own Madonna bashing mother was taken aback.

And the idea that Music piggy backed off the success of ROL is complete and total bullshit. In the States, the entire era was BIGGER than the ROL era. The first two singles were BIGGER than the first two singles off ROL. Both Music and DTM were played far more and had more longevity than any single released from ROL. The era was its OWN and didn’t need any help from ROL. The only difference was the level of anticipation for Music. With ROL, she hadn’t released a studio album in, what, 4 years?

Madonna’s eras have always pretty much stood on their merits and not on her previous efforts.

I miss actual storylines in her videos. It seems like from ROL onward those types of videos became fewer and far between. Don't get me wrong, all of the ROL vids are gorgeous and in some cases were forward for their time but from that point forward, most of her videos were more in that vein vs. videos more like TAB, LAP, OF, PDP etc. I think that's where my fondness for Ghosttown lies, it reminds me of those old school videos. Also love her Stevie Nicks-esque look in the video. She looks gorgeous.

    Agree entirely.

The video is absolutely an old school throw back when it comes to its storyline arch. No it’s not groundbreaking or anything, but neither was TAB and that’s pretty beloved by fans.

I’ll take ANY video from RH over GMAYL. Never understood why that video is so reveared by fans. Sure it’s extremely well produced and colorful and all that, but I’ve always found it to be as tacky as the damn song.

  8. Predict sales for album that no one has heard a single song from?

    Good luck with that.

Madonna is well past the point of blockbuster sales and has been for the better part of the past decade. I’m not saying she can’t have another “hit” album, but her glory days are long gone.

I’m far more interested in her releasing a quality album of well written songs than a cameo with the rent-a-rapper of the moment.

  9. I wish the democrats would be a little more jubilant with their wins last week. The whining that they didn't run the tables in every race is ridiculous. They were NEVER going to have a blowout election with the cult like mentality Trump supporters. They believe EVERYTHING and ANYTHING he says and will vote for whomever he tells them to vote for even if it means voting against their own personal interests.

I get the losses in Florida, Georgia, and Texas were quite painful. I was pretty disappointed that Stacey Abrams, Beto O'Rourke, and Andrew Gillum lost. But taking back the house by almost 40 seats and winning back 7 governorship's is nothing to sulk about. Plus, Dem's are sending over ONE HUNDRED WOMEN to the U.S House. That's HUGE. On top of the diversity that was elected and the ballot proposals that won, I'm cautiously optimistic that maybe, JUST MAYBE, he can be defeated in 2 years.

Plus, how glorious it will be to see Nancy Pelosi sitting directly behind that piece of shit during the next State of The Union address in January.

  10. It's a really great god damn song, isn't?

And it absolutely gets in your head.

It's telling that at 60 years old, nearly 40 years into her career, that Madonna is still being featured on a current rappers song. No matter what anyone says, Madonna will always have a street cred and an effortless kind of 'coolness' that no other pop star has. And she totally has it on this song.

    A BOP.

  11. Yeah I don't take it that seriously when it comes to my favorite musicians album releases. They're human beings. They have ups and downs and you never know what's going on in their lives that prevents them from churning out music regularly.

And I mean, come the fuck on... .Madonna is a busy ass woman. She's got a dozen kids, seems extremely hands on with her charity, and just turned 60. Most people start to slow down around that age and start to enjoy the life they've built for themselves. She's no different.

Tori Amos was a music releasing MACHINE from 1992 all the way up to 2009. But she's another one who went from releasing albums every 2 years to now every 3-4 years.

If anyone has deserved to take some time off to enjoy the life they built, it's Madonna.

  12. And the drought continues...... :megamanson:

Oh well. 'Next year' is only 3 months away. I can't imagine it would be LATER next year into summer or fall. She'll follow her same release formula that she obviously seems to like from a touring standpoint.

I do find it strange she performed Beautiful Game and teased the #soon shit for weeks. Does make we wonder if she went in a different direction with this project. Wouldn't be the first time.

At least we'll get more MDNA Skin videos..... :fuckoff:

He sounded like a lunatic during his testimony

    He did.

He sounded like a modern day Trumpian Republican and was giving a performance aimed at ONE crowd and one crowd only:

    Fox News and Trump himself.

And he succeeded in a spectacular fashion. After this pitiful, whiny, performance, what happened? Every single MAN on that judiciary committee RUSHED to his side. Defended him. Lashed out at the Democrats. Screamed and stomped their feet.

He set the tone and they fell in line. It was a disgusting display of patriarchal domination and white male rage that will probably get him on the Supreme Court. They WANT him on the Court now more than ever. Because he will have an ax to grind. He will move so far to the right on ANY and EVERY progressive cause brought before him.

    It's a horrifying prospect.

I dont get why the americans are so offended by Kaepernick.

they didn’t learn from hollywood movies teaching humanity & tolerance that racism is a bad thing.

i didnt know who he is till i saw on social media ppl r burning Nike shoes. The guy is so lovely , human ; i looked into his speeches and loved him

    He's a beautiful human being.

The attacks on him are absolutely disgraceful. I never in my life thought I'd witness such outward racism towards someone that's played out on a national stage. That's PERPETUATED and ENCOURAGED by a sitting U.S President.

I hang my head in shame lower and lower every day with what is going on in this country.

  15. Trust me, the majority of us are embarrassed beyond words at the state of our country.

And I don't see a way out of this mess any time soon. Impeaching Trump or voting him out in 2020 won't solve anything. This political tribalism on the right that encourages and promotes racism, sexism, and nationalism is going to be with us long after he's gone.

I always said that electing him would open up a Pandora's Box of bullshit that we wouldn't be able to stomp out for at least a generation.

It's worse than I ever imagined.

so what did the guy do to provoke such reactions? I saw the clip and they talk about how he's outspoken about injustice.. what are they talking about? he went a little too far with his opinions?

This all started about 2 years ago when he would kneel during the playing of the our National Anthem at the beginning of football games. He was taking a knee in silent protest of racial injustice and the innocent killing of black men and woman by white cops during petty traffic stops. It really wasn't that big of a controversy until our Racist In Chief began tweeting about it 24/7 and screaming about it at his authoritarian rallies in PoDunk America. Then he, Fox News, and his minions began saying he was 'protesting the flag and OUR TROOPS'.

Which is a blatant lie. But it worked. Middle America was APPALLED AND AGHAST that a bunch of BLACK football players wouldn't just SHUT THE FUCK UP and throw the ball. How DARE they take a knee in silent protest while our National Anthem is being played!

So now Nike picked him to represent the Just Do It 30th anniversary campaign and all hell has broke lose again. It's one of the most unbelievable displays of fake outrage I've ever seen. You have these fucktards literally burning, cutting, destroying, and ripping up their Nike clothing in protest. Merchandise that's already bought and paid for. AND they're giving Nike a shit ton of free publicity.

It's a funny thing to watch. Maybe instead, these pro-flag, pro anthem, pro-troop, pro-America TRUE AMERICANS could, oh I don't know, maybe donate their Nike gear to the poor, homeless veterans they pretend to care so deeply about.

A Return to Upbeat, Escapist Pop

Remember “Borderline”? “Open Your Heart”? “Express Yourself”? “Vogue”? “Deeper And Deeper”? “Ray Of Light”? “Beautiful Stranger”? “Jump”? Irresistible and hooky, one and all. More of that, please.

Yes, artists evolve and mature. But you know what would be revolutionary 35 years into the Queen of Pop’s truly remarkable story? Getting back to her roots! We don’t need her to save the planet. Nor are we looking to her to fix the political system. Upon the release of Confessions on a Dance Floor 14 years ago, Madonna stated, “I feel that I just want to have fun; I want to dance; I want to feel buoyant. And I want to give other people the same feeling. There's a lot of madness in the world around us, and I want people to be happy.” That’s a distraction we’ll still gladly accept from her.

In the end, all we really want from Madonna is to put the current state of the world on a shelf for a bit, and get into her groove as we have so many times before.

And really. This. Every last word of this. And the examples this writer used are perfect. Especially throwing in Deeper and Deeper, Beautiful Stranger, and Jump (!). Realistically she hasn't put out a euphoric lead single that's TRUE POP since Hung Up.

And don't you dare say Give Me All Your Luvin'.
