  1. This song. I mean. This fucking song.

It’s seedy and euphoric and dark and underground-ish and just everything. The high notes she hits give me chills.

It reminds me of going to the clubs for the first time by myself and getting invited to pop some E or do a bump. There’s something naughty about it that gives me such a sense of nostalgia.

  2. I had to leave by 7am on Friday morning to get on the road for work in northern Michigan which is over a 4 hour drive from where I live. So I had ample time to listen to Madame X on the way there and on the way back.

Let me first say that I am ecstatic that this album is receiving the reviews that it is. She deserves it. This record is intricate, bold, experimental, and unlike anything else that's out there. It's the reason that she is and ALWAYS will be steps ahead of any pop star - male or female - now and for the foreseeable future. I mean, can anyone see Taylor or Katy or Arianna doing something like this nearly 40 years into their career? I think not. This is an album that MADONNA wanted to make. And she made something truly magical.

    That being said....

I'm not personally connecting with this album. I appreciate the journey that she shared with us on Madame X but I just can not hold this albums hands the way I did with her previous releases. Perhaps it's because I absolutely adored Rebel Heart. That entire era was just pure Madonna magic. Sure, the track listing was clunky. Yes, there were leaks. But the promo performances. The tour. The sheer warmth that the album exuded was something special. And I know it's a fools errand to compare previous eras. It's automatic disappointment for any Madonna fan to expect a continuation of an era. And that wasn't my expectation at all. But there's something off about this era that I can't put my finger on.

It's still so heartwarming to see the excitement here. Regardless of my personal feelings, to be a part of of new era on this forum is always pure joy. And I certainly won't be a member to piss on anyone's love for this album, because it really is something to behold and doesn't deserve it. Years from now -  as with American Life and Tori Amos's Strange Little Girls - I may come back to this album and it very well could speak to me in different ways that it's simply not doing now. That's the beauty of her music. No other pop star has the complexity in their work like she does. It's what I keep coming back for.

Instant classics that I can't get enough of from Madame X:

    • Medillin
    • God Control
    • Crave
    • Crazy
    • Come Alive
    • Killers Who Are Partying
    • I Don't Search I Find

  3. I'm waiting. If you went and listened, more power to ya.

I'm so old school with new albums from my favorite artists. I love to put it on without any distractions, pour some a glass of wine, and let a new album just take me away. I do this with every single Tori Amos and Madonna release. It's almost a tradition.

  4. I still can't get over that Rolling Stone review.

They've celebrated her -albeit begrudgingly- for the duration of her career. I guess the divisiveness of it all just gets under my skin. It's as if he was on his phone, checking emails, while Madame X played in the background. Plus I've always found RS reviews of her albums to be quite fair on pretty spot on so this is really disappointing.

I'll always hold a grudge against that magazine for the scathing, misogynistic, and outright unprofessional review of Tori Amos' Boys For Pele. Talk about a review with an agenda.

  5. What a joke. Why the fuck would they cut his gorgeous verse from this? His voice is like butter. And compliments Madonnas voice to perfection.

Medellin was my favorite duet until Crave came along.

Radio had become a complete and total shell of what it once was. On any other planet this would’ve been been the number 1 song for the second week in a row.

  6. 20 hours ago, Crystal Coffin said:

Sonically, I see it as the more intelligent sister of "Best Friend", if that makes any sense

Love you boo but I’m not on board with that comparison. According to my iTunes I’ve listened to Best Friend 4 times. 3 of which were probably accidental.

I see the song as the lovechild of Borderline and Secret.

  7. Mayor Pete is indeed a charming, intelligent, well spoken, and witty guy. He's adorable.

I'm just not entirely sure he'd be able to go toe to toe with Trump - if he even comes close to winning the nomination. Obviously he could run circles around in him in policy but that's not what gets anyone elected anymore nationally.

And this whole Biden as the Trump Slayer is just mind boggling. Don't get me started on that. I see him as a John Kerry/Hillary Clinton type already.

  8. These reviews are promising. But then again, she’s always been given pretty favorable reviews for her music in general. The album sounds like an actual ‘album’ from her for the first time since AL and Confessions.

MDNA was a mess. Rebel Heart, which I rank as one of her best, was still all over the place in terms of production and sound. With Madame X, it appears she stuck with a ‘vibe’.

I Don’t Search I Find sounds intriguing and one of the tracks I’m most excited about.

  9. This is fantastic. What I wouldn’t give to be there in on the 50th anniversary of pride in NYC and be in front of Madonna.

A true ‘reinvention’ from her would be to just let her fucking hair down and camp this performance up as much as she can. I’d love to see carefree, fun, energetic setlist that captures the essence of what Madonna is to dance music.

    1. Everybody
    2. Into The Groove
    3. Hung Up
    4. Deeper and Deeper
    5. Vogue
  10. This song is just so achingly gorgeous that I can’t really listen to it all that much. Something about just hits me the same way This Used To Be My Playground, Live to Tell, Oh Father, Mer Girl, and Falling Free does. No one else can do really do this with pop music the way she can. No one.

One of the best songs she’s ever done. Hands down.

  11. The mob mentality regarding this performance is so vile. Social media is disgusting. This is exactly why I’m only on Instagram and check Facebook sparingly.

The performance was fine. Yes she was off during LAP and her voice was shaky. But it’s clear it was due to some kind of technical issues. My god tho...  it wasn’t as if she killed a litter of kittens on stage for Christ’s sake.

I often wonder what would’ve said about the VMA LAV, Vogue, Express Yourself, ROL performances if social media existed back then. I’m so thankful I got to experience Madonna before the age of these woke, insufferable, social justice wielding “critics”. You get your ass on stage and do what this incredible woman is doing at 60 years old.

The criticism she’s getting from her “fans” this era is absolutely mind boggling.

  12. It’s total and complete pop perfection. I can’t remember the last time she created a song like this that blends pop with a melody that’s both melancholy and blissful all at the same time.

I don’t know why, but something about this song reminds me of Borderline. Like if Borderline grew up and became an adult, this would be what she matured into.

    Can’t get enough of it.

  13. I really “like” this song. I feel like I’m going to have to listen to the entire album to appreciate it. Especially since it’s the closer. (I can’t believe she released a closer as a “single”)

The production is sublime and is classic Mirwais and Madonna. Giving me all the nostalgia back when I first heard what they created on Music.

This era is shaping up to be pretty special

  14. I haven’t heard Crave nor do I plan on listening to it prior to its official release. Just my preference when it comes to leaks.

But all this talk about a disco banger and dance floor stomper is pretty amusing. To my knowledge, most of that was hearsay and rumors. It’s becoming apparent this era is looking more like what others have said: A Bedtime Stories/American Life hybrid. And that’s just fine by me. I’ll gladly take more Sanctuary’s, Human Nature’s, Hollywood’s, and Easy Rides if that’s where she’s at with her artistry.

And with only 3 songs released thus far, we have no clue what’s on the album anyway.

  15. My initial reaction to Medllin was luke warm. I thought it was ‘fine’. A fun bop but nothing extraordinary.

But I was in the camp that absolutely LOVED Living For Love and rank it as one of the best lead singles she’s released in the last 20 years. So my expectations were always going to be high for this lead single.

But I found myself humming the song. It slowly began to get stuck in my head and with each day since it was released, I found myself listening to it more and more. Then yesterday when it was the first real warm day of the season, sun shining, high of 73, I had it on ALL. FUCKING. DAY.

The production is pristine. Her vocals are crisp. Maluma’s VOICE is everything and stands as THE perfect contrast next to Madonnas. The whole song is just a beautiful, sunny day with a chilled glass of Rose’ all rolled into one. It’s truly one of the most effortless, breezy songs in her catalog. Right next to Borderline, La Isla Bonita, Secret, and Don’t Tell Me.

    I’m hooked.

  16. I think the 2nd album cover (standard) is absolutely striking. Far more striking than the cover with her as a blonde. There’s a maturity and wisdom that just radiates from that picture. I’m in love.

This whole concept is giving me serious Tori Amos - Scarlets Walk vibes. But from a far more worldly point of view. And I mean this in the highest form of flattery.

  17. Best single cover since..... Well. Best in a very very long time. Absolutely flawless.

What an exciting time. Seriously. Anyone and everyone who’s been in this industry as long as Madonna begin rest on their laurels, their past hits, they get residencies, “go back to their roots” or do a covers album. They become boring, complacent, and a relic of their time.

But this woman still pushes herself. Still pushes boundaries. She still manages to excite us and get everyone talking. The buzz around this is popping up everywhere and it’s absolutely marvelous.

I’m optimistic that this very well may be another ROL or Music or Confessions moment. A moment where everyone once again looks at her as the revolutionary pop Queen that she is.
