Thanks! This is nice ... but can someone explain what the CD with the Frida-esque Madame X artwork is? The album isn’t out for another month...?

(PS - makes me really want to buy the IC vinyl!! Hope I happen upon a copy in the US around the release of Madame X!)

My B & N store (PA) doesn’t have it either. They said it takes about 2 weeks after the release date. When I asked, they said they could set a copy aside for me and call when it comes in.

That *is* really nice of them. I stopped at my local B&N today (also in PA) and they told me they don’t hold periodicals. I did leave my contact info — they’ll “try” to contact me. They said it takes a whole month to get them in ... They have the May issue on the shelves now; the customer service rep told me they just got that in. So, I guess mid-June I’ll check back if I haven’t heard from them.

I never got any of the Interview mag covers from 2015 (?) — called around to all of the B&Ns around me. It’s so frustrating sometimes, but oh well. (On a brighter note, I just discovered today they carry LOVE magazine — now I feel silly that I didn’t try to get that one when M was on the cover. I just figured it was gonna be impossible after never getting any of those last Interviews. I mean, there were THREE. covers and I ended up with zero! Bad batting average! Ha!)

  3. Oh, also, we believe we have heard two excerpts from Extreme Occident in Madame X teasers, because Shazam identified those snippets as Extreme Occident. (“The thing that hurt the most is that I wasn’t lost ...” and the “life is a circle” lyrics.)

Furthermore, we know Dark Ballet is the final name for “Beautiful Game,” which was performed in part at the Met Gala last year. We don’t know how much it may have changed, but at least enough material (melody or lyrics) has remained so that Shazam could identify that peformance as “Dark Ballet.”

  4. We know the original news release provides these additional details/descriptions:

”Future” features Quavo, is produced by Diplo, and has a Jamaican dancehall vibe.

”Dark Ballet” is produced by Mirwais, inspired by Joan of Arc (backstage BBMA interview), and is described as “sonically innovative.”

(Oops — sorry, @Shane, I somehow accidentally overlooked you already mentioned “sonically innovative”!)

Dark Ballet, really? As promo it's OK; but from what we know so far from the song, it would be like making 'Paradise' a single. 🤔

Actually, Paradise was the first song we heard from the Music album, because it was on Mirwais’ Production album, released months earlier than Music.

At the very least, it appears Dark Ballet will be a promo track like “I Rise” (if not a “proper single” like Crave) — because Dark Ballet is supposed to be out the week before the album.

Can I say say something as a Kindergarten teacher? I don't monitor, I facilitate and re-direct students to be more self regulated. 😉

Two of my beloved immediate family are/were kindergarten teachers.

Bless you in your important work with children at a critical moment in their education and lives!

That's why she has a team of advisors who - I assume - have explained that to her...

One would hope ... but then, she seemed unaware that only one person before her had received the Advocate for Change Award from GLAAD ... and she had to ask who it was. I was a little surprised by that, because I’d read that several times on this forum. Her PR people (or anyone else on the “management team”) didn’t brief her on that?

Sorry to pipe up only on something somewhat negative. Just remembered that moment in the Today Show interview and thought this sounded similar...

    Now THIS is cool.

    So hot!

The vertical video very much gave me lots of Erotica video vibes! So the fact this works well doesn’t seem so surprising, I suppose.

I want to wear little bicep armband tassles to the Madame X Tour!! Although mine will not look anywhere near as secksi as Maluma Baby. :chuckle:

  9. I haven’t listened to this yet — waiting for the official release on Friday (well, midnight on Thursday night/Friday morning).

I hope there is a small video component with the audio video on YouTube, as with “I Rise.” If she was just filming last night, it seems unlikely that the official music video would be ready to be released this Friday NZ time. (I believe the article that announced “Crave” said the video would “follow later” or something. #soon haha!) But I’m okay with just a little visual to tide us over for a while. Can wait a little longer for the full video while I appreciate the audio.

Re: all this talk of disco banger ... I’ll take what she gives us, but I guess, given the Bedtime Stories+American Life vibes, I’ll get my ears ready for low-key disco — think “Don’t Stop” produced by Mirwais!! Could be okay with me — I am one of the few who doesn’t mind “Don’t Stop” at all, and I enjoy Mirwais, so ... yeah, I’m here for it, I guess!

m still uses "record" to refer to song or single. rosie is from that same generation. i think she would have said "album" if she meant she'd heard the whole album.

Yes, I know M uses “record” that way. And yes it is generational. I’m just saying, for me, contextually, it felt like she was talking about more than a song. I feel like even someone of Rosie’s generation might have just said “song” there if she meant only “I Rise.” But we won’t know and it doesn’t really matter.

    14 hours ago, robster said:

At the very beginning of the video you can hear Rosie say "Rise", followed by the compliment, she's obviously reffering to "I Rise"

She says, “Oh yes, you rise! The new record is fan-f*cking...” and she never says “-tastic.” So, yes, she is invoking the lyric and title of “I Rise.” So I completely understand why everyone thinks I’m delusional. But I still think she would’ve just said “song” if she didn’t mean “album.”

    ALSO:

Rosie says “hold on, papí” at the end, so ... :chuckle: I mean ... can we really analyze her word choice too deeply? Love her — she’s hysterical. (I’m not being critical! Just recognizing the limitations of this discussion.)

Madonna’s comments about phone use are spot on. Technology has undoubtedly reduced our socialisation and possibly even our imagination. I always keep that in mind and make sure to still DO THINGS. It’s all about balance.

Completely agree. This resonated for me, as well. (Your comment also reminds me how Madonna limited screen/TV time for her children — at least for Lola and Rocco — and wanted them to read more, because she was concerned it would limit their imaginations.)

I was also thinking how many of us will probably hope some Madame X Tour attendees will have their phones out at the theatre shows ... and yet I also thought that I hope they can *be present* and enjoy being that close to her, enjoying her art and performance directly instead of through a device.

Now people are wearing the technology, and it’s hard to get through a conversation without messages popping up on their darn watches.

When they are walking the halls together. But I personally think she means I Rise cause she reads it off the hat

I finally got to see the video in question — very cute — and I tend to think Rosie means the album. She says “the record” — but I think she would have said “the song” if she just meant “I Rise” ... but then again, she could have meant Medellín since they started cha-cha-cha-ing...

Still, very few people say “record” to mean “song” anymore, unless people are talking about Grammy Record of the Year noms/awards.

We’ll see if we hear any more from Rosie, I guess.

I've waited a while...but now I can truly say how unbelievably fresh this first single is.

What a wonderful, uplifting, catchy number to start the era (and open the album).  I'm quite surprised that I keep coming back to it. Incredible replay value that shows me something new every time I listen to it. Great production, beautifully clear vocals, that euphoric chorus, and a good length (with a structure that takes its time to build). Enjoyed it on first listen, but after a few repeats, it's clear how good this truly is. If only it could get its just due (and utterly puzzling how polarizing it is to the fanbase).

Say what you want about Madonna, but she still knows (perhaps better than ever) what REAL quality pop music is supposed to be. Thank god for her.

    Absolutely!

So we have the drag queens video (possibly in the trench coat with blonde hair?) still to appear aswell as the video with the black wig in the building in Lisbon (yellow fur scarf) & moonlight...we have the accordion player & the handmaiden look video?

Not 100% certain all of these “looks” are separate videos — and then again we also are not certain they are NOT separate, either.

All the looks in the album trailer may be used at some point ... but not sure if they will each have a video. Look at Medellín, for example — two looks (bride and cha cha instructor). I tend to think the album trailer was like behind the scenes video of her fittings and early “screen tests” — notice how that bride look has no eyepatch in the trailer (and the red glove might even be on the other arm/hand, but the image might be flipped, too).

The trenchcoat is not the LA video shoot, to my knowledge. She wore something sequined. She posted an IG photo from behind for that look — and she also posted a close-up of her “drip” — lots of necklaces (one with the lips pendant).

Random but strangely, I’m receiving conflicting reports. Crave wasn’t the “disco” video shot in LA...so now I’m confused by what that video could be...and considering the billboard article, it should be the next single but was the video shot? I’m certainly not piecing it all together!!! 😬😬😬

Didn’t someone say that RuPaul said friends who participated in the LA shoot said the song might be “Crazy” or something like that ... Tricky part here is that “Crazy” is a song title, but “Crave” sounds a lot like that word, so ... who knows if someone misheard something (like telephone game)?

Going to make this a playlist right away!!

👍 @Martin B. said he did this several pages back, too — I’m sure that suggestion was influencing my thoughts. Don’t wanna take credit. But enjoy the playlist! (It’ll feel like “the end” with each track! Haha! 😊 )

Agree with all this. I’d probably like to imagine Act of Contrition was the start of the epic conceptual closers but you’re right. It began with Secret Garden

You can count it if you want, honey! I still love Act of Contrition. (I forget how late it was before it was explained to me what it meant — about her reservation not being in the computer. The idea that she’s at the Pearly Gates. Sometimes I feel very slow!!)

But ... I mean looking at this list:

    Secret Garden

    Take a Bow

    Mer Girl

    Gone

    Easy Ride

    Like It or Not

    Voices

    Falling Free

Wash All Over Me / Rebel Heart

    ...

    and now I Rise.

That’s a pretty amazing batch of songs.
