By the way some interesting info I ran into reading BB @ Borders 2nite. march17 08 issue billboard top 200
I was shocked at some of the people who say CDS are NOT SELLING?
Then I was like:: wait a minute?...
Carrie Underwood 7x platinum 2005 release
daughtry 4 x platinum
alicia 3 x platinum
eagles 7x platinum
garth 5 x platinum
Yes, but those are all extreme exceptions:
Carrie Underwood- AMERICAN IDOL
Daughtry- AMERICAN IDOL
Alicia- Holiday sales helped her A LOT. Not to mention she's simply a hot, young artist who appeals to a wide variety of people.
Eagles- One of the best selling bands ever. These guys have a huge, devoted fanbase. First album of new material in 27 years.
Garth- One of (if not the) best selling country artist ever. Don't underestimate the country fans. See Carrie Underwood above. Not saying this to be rude or a smart ass but seriously Garth is like one of those Wal-Mart staples. People LOVE this man.
Aside from her LAV and TB years Madonna has simply NEVER been one of those types of artists above. Every one of those acts above are safe musically and they don't piss off people the way M does. When you REALLY break it down, the majority of Madonna's albums ACTUALLY should've sold a lot more than they did:
LAP- 4 million after 3 MASSIVE hit singles (LAP, EY, C), 1 decent hit (KIT) and 1 mediocre hit (OF). Not to mention the hype she had surrounding her in those days. She and MJ were the biggest stars in the world. Her most critically acclaimed album up until that point. This one should've at least equalled TB's 8 million.
Erotica- 1.6 million. Nothing to say other than for 1992 standards it was a FLOP!
BS- 2.3 million. This one spawned the longest running number one of her career plus a major hit with Secret. HOT producers of the day. Should've at least done 3.5 million in that healthy sales market. PLUS it was out right before the holidays.
ROL- Honestly, I think this is the only one that performed as it should've at 4 million....if not exceeding expectations. It was one of her most critically acclaimed, but the sound she explored here wasn't the safest guarantee.
Music- Right around 3 million....not bad! But Music was MASSIVE and DTM was pretty damn HUGE too! This was her biggest opening ever and album sales seemed to be MASSIVE around this time overall. Still say it should've equaled ROL's total.
AL- Although the market was beginning it's rapid deterioration at this point, this albums performance is pretty much a flop! Under 700K still...
COADF- I lied in my ROL assessment.....this one actually did very well for itself. Coming off the AL fiasco, minimal airplay. The holidays and good word of mouth really helped this one. For 2005 standards this did pretty damn good at nearly 1.7 million.

it would be cool to see her do a show in a stadium where she is in the middle of it like a circle stage
I agree. I was hoping for that for this tour. Maybe next time!

Half of the posters in this thread are:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Zlf_17hecY
When America's current "teen queen" sweetheart who nearly caused RIOTS amongst kids and parents because of lack of concert ticket demand can "only" muster 3 million in album sales you know things are bad. Look back to Britney's hey day as a "teen queen" she was selling more than 10 million. Typically teen idol phenomenons sell HUGE numbers. Not anymore. Some of the comparisons you guys are giving are ridiculous how the f*ck are you going to compare MADONNA'S sales to that of the PHENOMENON known as American Idol stars like Carrie Underwood and Daughtry...GET A EFFING CLUE PEOPLE!!! Since when has Madonna sold 7 million copies of an album?? 1986!! OMG...I just can't take the lack of knowledge...
-
Oh do FUCK OFF. Can the mods ban this cmaslow309 person please?
Please....that thing is going to be front and center at the show hyperventilating when she hits the stage....probably at more than one date. "I love you Madonna. YOU ARE A CLASS ACT. I LOVE YOU!!!"
And about Icon....I hate to say this about her official fan club, but post internet they have been pretty much useless. It was cool to get their updates and mags before that because they REALLY did have exclusives. The presales have ALWAYS sucked as far as I can remember. I did the RIT presale and got nothing because of BS like this. Same ol', same ol'. Now fans have a scapegoat with the whole StubHub thing, in reality though that has nothing to do with the failure of this Icon presale, it's always been this way....SERIOUSLY. I'm sure there have been lucky ones that have had success with it, but OVERALL...NO!
-
Ur right ,, it was alot further ,,, what is the 'mix" section ?
I'm purely speculating here....but I think the "mix" section will be where the guy with his laptop will be sitting that will control the sound of the show basically??
-
Being 16 and never seeing Madonna live, you people have no idea how hurtfull it is to me. Not to mention that Hard Candy isn't one of my favorite albums. I feel a sudden wave of dissapointment. Some of you will tell me to get over it but when my Idol for the last 4 years is making my parents pay insane ticket prices with their hard earned
cash, I'm sorry but it is very low
No use in spending so much money. I'll buy the cheapest tickets even if that includes sitting all the way in the back.
If you want a Madonna like show you have to pay. You can't expect to pay $50 for floor seats and still see her fly onto the stage inside a million dollar disco ball. Spectacles like hers aren't cheap to put together. I became a diehard fan around 12 years old too. That's when she released EROTICA which was COMPLETELY left field from what she had ever done. I fell in love with Madonna of the Immaculate Collection, fun, breezy, timeless pop songs. Can you imagine the dissapointment when she released an album where her vocals sounded like she was on a drinking/drug binge and couldn't sing right (that's what I thought at the time) and all elements of fun were nearly stripped away? Where was Holiday? Where was Like A Prayer?? I like it now....but I can assure you at 12 yo I didn't quite grasp the whole concept. Then she announced the GS tour...I was so excited, well the bitch only played 5 US cities. NONE of which were close to me. I can assure you Mommy dear wasn't about to let her 13 year old son fly off to NYC to watch Madonna participate in an onstage orgy. She wouldn't tour again for another 8 years....talk about dissapointing, I never thought she would tour again. Then when she did tour the prices were astronomical then too....$250-300 a pop. I thought it was highway robbery, then I saw the show and I understood that to put on a show like that, it ain't cheap.
The moral of the story is with an artist like Madonna who changes CONSTANTLY she is BOUND to do something at some points you aren't going to like. Then, she will do something that will knock your socks off that you will probably think is better than anything she's done before. You either hang on for the ride or spend your time and money on "safer" artists who you know will never dissapoint you!

So in order to be A REAL FAN, we must tolerate Madonna being an ass to us ?!?!?!?!? WOW, that is news
It is because of fans like you she treats us like shit
And noooooooo, i don't care about Mariah or all that shit, I love Madonna but i can admit and will tell when the actions taking by her team are fucking the fans.
Please Madonna, treat me like shit!! Please Madonna do not give me the chance to see you closer even tho i joined your fanclub and there it says that as a paying member i get access to presales!!! yay
I don't want her to call me and say OMG VALHUM THANKS FOR BEING A FAN, LET ME RIM YOU NOW!! I just would like to know that we get better seats specially if you are paying for that.
Oh and btw, apparently this is what the Johan person from ICON said about the whole mess....
Johann finally addressed the crappy ICON presale and said that all good seats couldn't be reserved for ICONers because that wouldn't be fair to those who aren't members.
WTF is that?!?!?!?!
isn't that why many joined???? IT'S A FUCKING FAN CLUB of course people expect better treatment that the non members casual fans
I agree the fan club presale was handled terribly and they SHOULD have a shit load of the best seats in the house to sell to the fans first. I have to wonder though, how involved is Madonna herself in that? Probably not very, she has a shit load of people to do that kind of stuff for her. I was moreso addressing the person who thinks Madonna should thank her fans in CD liner notes and doesn't like that her shows are so "rehearsed". The fact of the matter is, Madonna isn't going to be like Prince and switch up her set list every night or thank her fans everytime she wins an award or releases an album that is just not her style, never has been.

And I have empirical evidence to back this up. By a strange coincidence, we had arrived early on Sunday. But sure enough, the Material MILF was there for what we (and several Madonna fans) thought was a routine soundcheck. Hilariously, Madonna even called to her nonexistent audience, “I can’t hear you!” Meaning that Madonna was practicing exactly what she was planning to say to the crowd between songs. (Sure enough, she did call out “I can’t hear you!” to the sweltering fans, who presumably thought she was being sincere.)But I felt utterly nothing. Her set felt more like a well-executed computer program.
Yes, I can tell any grandkids I might have that I saw Madonna live. But I’d rather tell them how good Damian Marley was (who I URGE you to see live): a performer who really wanted to entertain the crowd
Again...did you just discover her yesterday?? This has ALWAYS been how she executes her shows. She was probably shouting "I can't hear you" in her synagogue in Queens while rehearsing for CBGB gig with Breakfast Club. Get over it. You obviously aren't a fan of hers and that's fine, but why bother to come here?
-
YUP,,she sureeee does take care of her fans,,,she sure does,,yes sir reee,,Great Prices,The BEST seats for her royal loyal dearest, and i just LOVED the way she thanked her fans in her new cd booklet,,i thought it was quite clever! she SURE IS A CLASS ACT!
Did you just discover Madonna yesterday? Since when has she thanked her fans in her CD liner notes?? Since when has Madonna EVER been fan friendly?? Why would she start now?? Go join Mariahdaily or something....seems to be more your style. She sings ALL her hits on every tour AND leaves little messages for her fans. She lives to please her fans basically. I'm sure if she announced a single and they disagreed she would change the single to what they wanted it to be....THANK GOD Madonna is not like that.
-
she'll be sucking on one of these:
i just know it
OMG...I would LOVE to have one of those and be in the front row going down on it while she's performing.
-
Madonna,,,,what a REAL class act she's turnung out to be!
Yet day after day you come and spend YOUR precious time devoting to HER....the "bad guy"....or girl in this case. If you are over her, then BE OVER HER.
-
hopefully HC will scan more than 1 million... did confessions get 2nd platinum? deserves it i think..
No it hasn't!!!
AND it's WAY overdue....come on WB! They need to certify ALL of her albums in need of it for the last time, cuz if they don't now goodness knows they never will.
-
I agree w/ everything Kurt said.
That's right....listen to imisto....he's YOUNG and WITH IT. He KNOWS his shit!! He's our link to the teens and tweens...lol.
-
The tour will not impact sales at all. Never have, so why now? I don't know how the CD will sell because I don't know if Madonna plans any type of promo at all. At the current rate things are going she might hit 850,000 units at most. With some effort she can do 1,000,000 - 1,300,000.
No, the tour won't spike HC to the top 10 of the BB200 for the duration of her tour. But like with CT it will sustain sales and keep it on the charts and selling pretty steadily. That's exactly what happened with COADF, as soon as the tour left the US the album fell off the chart but it held on up until August of '06...it had a 37 week run (???) and no doubt the tour helped to sustain it.
-
She has had the 3rd highest opening of the year. You people are living in the 80's. You do all realize in an era where CD sales were extremely healthy Erotica opened with less than 200K....same with BS. The album is doing fine, stop using Mariah Carey's album sales as a blueprint for Madonna's. MARIAH HAS ALWAYS OUTSOLD MADONNA....ALWAYS! In fact, short of the LAV and TB eras Madonna was never the top selling "it" girl, she just has consistency. Now is no exception, her album sales are a reflection of the market as a whole. Take a look at the charts people. This album is actually good, it won't free fall like AL did. The 2nd week drop it's experiencing is normal and expected. Some of you are failing to see we are upon an entirely new era in the music business, like I said you are living in the 80's. Wait until NEXT album (if it's even released in the traditional way we are used to by that point) opening sales will probably be lucky to be 200K no matter WHAT time of year it is. imisto has a very good point....singles are like the new albums and 4M is KILLING in singles sales. In many ways it's like we are reverting back to the 60's when albums sold very little but singles sales were through the roof. It wasn't until the 70's that we started having blockbuster album sales from acts like Fleetwood Mac, Bee Gees etc. WELCOME TO 2008 FOLKS!!
-
I think its a poor decision, she should play different places.....her tour schedules have been basically the same mostly...
An Australian crowd would be awesome, as would a south american crwod, in fact, anywhere that hasnt seen her the last 3 tours would LAP it up....
When she did DWT look at the frenzy, first tour in 8 years etc...now its a bi yearly thing and she needs to diversify the itiniery
I also fear this tour wont have many sellouts
I await some peoples immediate labelling me a flop fan
I actually agree with you. How many times can she go to basically the same markets every 2 years and charge her prices and sell out "x" amount of nights in a row? Oh well....I guess this is why I don't work for her and someone else strategizes these things! May I just add that of all of her live concerts that have been committed to tape that the GS "Live Down Under" has the BEST fucking audience!! Although the Italians in Ciao Italia come a close second. I just don't get why she won't go back, obviously she has her reasons but damn M....they LOVE you to death down there. Show 'em some love girl!!!
-
I'm over the fact she isn't coming, flop Diva. But she needs to STOP talking about coming here "eventually", just shut the fuck up, you aren't coming bitch.
I agree with that. I feel bad for you guys.
and it does make it worse that she acts like she's going to...as recently as a month ago even she hinted she would be.

OK,,before i post this,I AM A HUGE MADONNA FAN,,HAVE BEEN SINCE 1986,when i was a wee little one,i was also warned to "tone it down " a little bit,the point is,she has MANY songs she can do,BUT seems to refuse ,she comes across as thinking she is better than the older songs she has done,we have not gotten "borderline, angel, dress you up,open your heart, true blue, who's that girl, cherish, keep it together, rain, bad girl,i'll remeber, take a bow, bedtime story, power of goodbye, dont cry for me argentina(miami mix),gambler, this used to be my playground, you must love me,etc,,ALL much worthy songs in comparisson to the songs she does do a la paradise not for me,drowned world(again) la isla bonita AGAIN music(again) she is obviously talented enough to "rework" these songs,, if shes capable of showing us a reworked "hung up",she is more THAN CAPABLE of showing us reworked versions of songs PEOPLE WANT TO HEAR AND KNOW,,it seems she has to many people kissing her A$$ and agree'ing with her rather than telling her what her public and fans WANT!
For me as a diehard fan, I PREFER that she focuses on her current album as we will probably NEVER see some of those songs (aside from the hit singles from the albums) performed again. I (and many others that shell out that kind of money to see her) DO WANT TO HEAR AND DO KNOW THE CURRENT MATERIAL. It's a guarantee she's going to end up incorporating probably most of the songs you've listed at some point or another because they were hit songs. Future Lovers, Get Together, Let It Will Be, I Love New York, most AL tracks etc are probably songs we will NEVER see live again since they weren't hits. Yet even while focusing on her current project at the time of the tour...we STILL have managed to get the biggest hits of her career within the past 2 tours. Out of her 12 US number ones, we have heard over half of them on the previous 2 tours and many of her past top tens. I can see why she would want to ignore her 80's music sometimes, if she actually ALWAYS listened to her casual fans, she'd NEVER get to perform her new stuff, which is what she is most passionate about. DWT is the exception, but she had to cover 3 studio albums worth of songs she had barely touched live. Maybe to appease her whiny ass "80's/fair weathered" fans she should just STOP recording and play catch up. As long as she's a current recording artist, I'm afraid YOUR "dream setlist" will NEVER happen. Save your seat for someone like myself who will actually APPRECIATE IT! Thank you very much.
-
lol, replica of her boobies, would be cute.
lol...oh ok...i didn't catch that, but those nips are kinda small like hers. Well, as long as they are EXACT replicas of HER boobies then I guess that's ok!!
-
these would be better
OMG...a herd of gays would stampede out into the streets with those things falling on us....EWWW glittercandy. Are you STRAIGHT!!??
-
I DEMAND some of these to fall all over me at the show:
Liz, Jamie...Madonna....whoever...TAKE NOTE!!!
-
Or maybe the show will open with "Spanish Lesson" and a giant pinata will fall from the ceiling and it will hover over the stage, and her dancers will come out with big sticks and beat the crap out of it and it will EXPLODE with candy that will rain down on us, and Madonna will also falll out of it onto the center of the stage and break into song!
THAT GETS MY VOTE!!!
-
You all need to stop living in the damn 80's....WAKE THE FUCK UP PEOPLE!
-
"ohh i'm "Sorry" truth ALWAYS hurts,,,,,,"you dont wanna hear,,u dont wanna KNOW"
To use a term our dear M-DoLLa may use these days YOU are WHACK!
What the fuck do you want her to do? Sing the Immaculate Collection everytime she tours?? Go fucking spin her first 4 albums and dance around and lipsynch in a blonde ponytail in front of your mirror or something....for fuck sake.
Obviously you were one of the UNLUCKY ones who didn't get to attend her last 2 tours or you would know that between those two tours she has sang a good number of her 80's classics:
1. Vogue
2. Express Yourself
3. Burning Up
4. Material Girl
5. Like A Prayer
6. Into The Groove
7. Crazy For You
8. Papa Don't Preach
9. Like A Virgin
10. Live To Tell
11. La Isla Bonita
12. Lucky Star
All within the past 4 years you damn fool so fuck off.
How many times have you guys seen Madge in concert?
