The album version is the one for me. I had never heard Express Yourself until I bought this album in March 1989 when it was released. It was an unknown song for me at that time. It hadn't been released as a single yet. LAP was still the only single out from the album. (And, Spotify didn't exist).

Upon my first listen, I just said "Whoa!" Those beginning drums fuck you hard.

The album version is so inherent. Natural and raw. The saxophone and percussions are structured harmoniously. Making it sound rich and controlled.

It starts in G major and then down to E minor flawlessly. Genius.

I love all the remix versions. But, nothing beats the integrity of Express Yourself - The Album Version.

Another M song that empowered me. These lyrics were incredible to hear for a 19 year old girl going through tough times.

And! I lost my virginity to this song. Jesus, what a memory.

"Don't go for second best".

I'll do much better, baby on my own!

BOW TO THE QUEEN! I love you, Madonna
