THANK GOD IT'S BLACK FRIDAY

Susan Boyle Climbs Past 625k, Approaches 675k, Lambert #2, Lady Gaga Two in Top 10

November 27, 2009

Steve Barnett's Columbia Records and Susan Boyle have a lot to be thankful for this weekend. And that goes for you two, Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga.

Going into the weekend, Simon Cowell's gal Boyle is a runaway for #1 on next Tuesday's HITS Album Sales chart, with a total almost three times her closest competitor, 19/RCA/ RMG's Idol runner-up Adam Lambert.

Boyle's I Dreamed a Dream is on target for between 625-675k in sales, which would be the year's biggest debut, besting Eminem's 608k for his Relapse album.

Lambert's For Your Entertainment looks like a lock for #2 with between 210-230k.

The week's other big story is Interscope's Lady Gaga, whose seven-song Fame Monster EP will sell between 190-210k, good enough for #3, while her just-released two-disc Fame Monster deluxe edition should add another 130-150k to that album's total.

Decca's Andrea Bocelli is the lone Top 5 holdover at 180-200k, where he's running neck-and-neck with Def Jam/IDJ diva Rihanna's critically acclaimed Rated R with the same estimated total.

The rest of the chart looks a little something like this, pending weekend traffic:

Carrie Underwood (19/Arista Nashville) 100-120k

John Mayer (Columbia) 90-110k

* Shakira (Columbia) 85-100k

50 Cent (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) 85-100k

Twilight Saga: New Moon (Chop Shop/Atlantic) 85-100k

Norah Jones (Blue Note/EMI) 85-100k

Taylor Swift Fearless (Big Machine) 85-100k

Michael Jackson's This Is It (Epic) 75-90k

Casting Crowns Peace on Earth (Provident/Reunion) 75-90k

Taylor Swift Holiday Collection (Big Machine) 75-90k

*indicates debut

Just shows if you want to sell records in this day and age you have to play to the middle aged crowd who still buy them. Im sure every old housewife on the planet was moist with anticipation for some Susan Boyle.

miley cyrus is already over 100 k at 37%! it almost has twice as much Gaga's EP,why didn't they predict this above? she may have a big number in the end as well, and Carrie underwood it's 3rd...Lambert and Gaga are going cheek to cheek too....think these numbers will move later, won't they? :asian:

So happy for Susan Boyle as she is a sweet lady and her voice is wonderful. The song selections also are great for her album. Norah Jones album is her best one yet. It's uptempo and fantastic. Hope she can keep her sales consistant. Finally a big YAY for Adam Lambert haveing a respectable debut!

Miley's a Wally World exclusive, so they probably already received all reports from Wal-Mart stores. This was the case several weeks back when KISS released their Wal-Mart exclusive. 90% of the sales were reported in the first 20% of Hits.

I doubt it's her voice that sold so many albums.

It's her "back story" which is mostly lies anyway.

^Yeah, I wonder how much of the Beyonce increase was due to Black Friday or the re-release...

Notice how Rihanna sells as much albums as Barbra Streisand? :p

Beyonce reissued her album? I didn't know...

yes, she reissued IASF into a single disc with a couple bonus tracks, including the Video Phone remix with Gaga.

there are so many damn editions of the album to count, LOL.

She released a regular and "deluxe" edition at the same time last year, then she did the Platinum edition in the UK with a bonus DVD (in the US the DVD was instead packaged with a disc of dance mixes as a Wal-Mart exclusive... I picked it up for $5)... now she's releasing a single disc edition of the deluxe edition with three bonus tracks.

So much fan milkage and I've seen fans say they will not buy her next album during it's original release because they know what's going to happen in six months. Because she did the same thing with B. Day as well.

So much for Thanksgiving week automatically softening second-week declines- Norah Jones and Justin Bieber held up well, but ouch for 50 Cent, Kris Allen, Casting Crowns and Leona Lewis.

I like some rationalizeations that Rihanna went "dark" for this album- is this her Erotica? It may not be as happy and peppy as her other fare, but it's not like she went Bjork. (same with Kelly Clarkson, when she released My December).

releasing a re-release of a greatest hits album seems to be overdoing it.

releasing a re-release of a greatest hits album seems to be overdoing it.

Sony has actually done just that with a number of their "The Essential" releases for MJ, Billy Joel, Heart and a few others, expanding them from 2 to 3 discs.

WTF? First all of many people including myeself appreciate Susans magical voice. It's wondeful and her renditions of the songs on her album are unique and beautifully arranged. Susan is really nice in all her interviews and she is from a town in Scottland. What is there to lie about that? It's all about Susan Boyle right now!
