loomer
Disc One (79:48) Her entire (amazing) run of consecutive Top 5 singles 1984-1989 (this was broken by "Oh Father" in late 1989 which stalled at #20), plus "Holiday" (#16) and "Into The Groove" (NC) which are signature songs and her two biggest recurrent airplay hits. 1. Holiday 2. Borderline 3. Lucky Star 4. Like A Virgin 5. Material Girl 6. Crazy For You 7. Angel 8. Into The Groove 9. Dress You Up 10. Live To Tell 11. Papa Don't Preach 12. True Blue 13. Open Your Heart 14. La Isla Bonita 15. Who's That Girl 16. Causing A Commotion 17. Like A Prayer 18. Express Yourself 19. Cherish Disc Two (73:18, leaving nearly 7 minutes for two new tracks) A concise, no-fat representation of her biggest and best known (stateside) '90s and '00s output, with room for two new tracks. 1. Vogue 2. Justify My Love 3. This Used To Be My Playground 4. Erotica 5. Deeper And Deeper 6. I'll Remember 7. Secret 8. Take A Bow 9. You'll See 10. Frozen 11. Ray Of Light 12. Beautiful Stranger 13. Music 14. Don't Tell Me 15. Die Another Day 16. Hung Up 17. 4 Minutes 18. [new song] 19. [new song] This would be trickier for the UK. For one, #1 singles "Sorry" and "American Pie" (damn it, a cover) would have to be included. Anyone want to take a stab at it? I'd go along with this exactly. Except you don't have enough space for 2 new songs, so I'd cut Die Another Day. It was much hated when it came out in certain quarters and isn't the best remembered Bond theme. I have a feeling that some of the 80s hits will be cut Angel and Commotion seem most vulnerable. It's a pity Oh Father and Drowned World couldn't be added to give the album more breadth and show her more thoughtful side. If you're wanting to do a UK version, then cut the flop I'll Remember and replace with Sorry. Fuck American Pie, # 1 or not, it was a cover
HolidayGuy
Not saying she won't do it (who would have thought she'd extend the S&S Tour, after all), but I envision a universal tracklisting for the GH. SHe had one for TIC, STR and GHV2- why do something different now?
Guest Danny86
I have a feeling that some of the 80s hits will be cut Angel and Commotion seem most vulnerable. From the 80s, I only expect the singles she performed live in this decade (with maybe "OYH" added). That alone can fill up a CD. There won't be room for the likes of "Angel", "Gambler", "True Blue", "Cherish" and the WTG stuff. She has like 70 singles but on 2 CDs they can only use like 35 songs. 2 of them will be new songs, and we all know she's gonna make room for her favorite flops: "Human Nature", "Drowned World", "American Life" & "Miles Away". A LOT of singles will be ignored...

Fuck American Pie, # 1 or not, it was a cover If the two new songs run in the respectable 3:20 range (like many recent singles have) they would fit perfectly without having to drop anything from disc two. Definitely agree, due to the tight time restrictions, "American Pie" and "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" truly don't belong. They're covers of already famous recordings, not MADONNA! songs. And which flopped harder in the UK... "Take A Bow" or "I'll Remember"?
Guest Danny86
And which flopped harder in the UK... "Take A Bow" or "I'll Remember"? According to that sales list they published on her 50th birthday, both of them did practically the same in the end, just above 100k. If there's an UK version, then nothing from Bedtime Stories or American Life should be included on that, because none of them were big hits. Even "Die Another Day" is just barely among her top 40 best selling UK singles.

Mattress
In a lot of euro countries 'Gambler' was even bigger than 'Crazy For You' but Holidayperson won't believe me. I'm in the US and knew "Gambler" just as well as I did "Like A Virgin" or "Into The Groove" thanks to a certain little television network. I was surprised when I discovered it wasn't a single here. I always include it on my otherwise US-centric multi-disc compilations along with "Fever" and "I Want You" for their video releases.

Sure Hollywood and AL didnt sell hugely but they still reached #2 in the UK (higher than TAB) I think Hollywood should be squeezed in on there and it would make more sense if the songs from 2002-2009 got more priority as they havent had a chance to be on any other compilation and will be more recent in peoples memories. Also those figures can't be used to compare DAD to older hits as that was before illegal downloads took over.

Mattress
Okay. I think I've worked it out so that the only missing MADONNA! UK singles --those which were also released in the US and which sold over 100,000-- would be "Hanky Panky," "Rescue Me," "Rain," "The Power Of Good-bye," "Nothing Really Matters" and "Give It 2 Me". Taking time restraints into consideration, I think we can just about all live with that. Breaking down the UK sales list based on my previously posted track listing.... FIRST TIER: The 14 strongest sellers in the UK; sold between 400,000 and 900,000 843,561 Into The Groove 768,129 Like A Virgin 752,968 Holiday 662,481 Crazy For You 629,386 Papa Don't Preach 534,728 True Blue 517,036 Hung Up 513,992 Beautiful Stranger 513,231 Like A Prayer 508,296 Frozen 484,308 Vogue 430,000 4 Minutes 421,760 La Isla Bonita 400,531 Music All of these made the track listing. SECOND TIER: 5 additional singles respectfully sold between 300,000 and 400,000 389,999 Material Girl 380,937 American Pie 376,498 Who's That Girl 338,494 Don't Cry For Me Argentina 302,432 You'll See Of these, only the two aforementioned covers are (purposely) omitted from my previous track listing. Thus far, of Madonna's own original hits, the 17 biggest UK sellers are already included. THIRD TIER: 11 more singles, all sold between 200,000 and 300,000 298,388 Borderline 292,341 Gambler 271,897 Live To Tell 270,800 Erotica 270,427 This Used To Be My Playground 262,514 Ray Of Light 250,769 Dear Jessie 229,934 Causing A Commotion 228,683 Justify My Love 205,733 Hanky Panky 204,970 Dress You Up All but three of these (two non-US releases "Gambler" and "Dear Jessie" plus "Hanky Panky") already appear on my track listing, bringing our totals to 25 of her 30 biggest UK sellers. FOURTH (and final) TIER: 18 additional singles that sold between 100,000 and 200,000 198,650 Angel 194,102 Express Yourself 192,891 Cherish 186,742 Open Your Heart 179,939 Don't Tell Me 178,963 Sorry 175,095 The Power Of Goodbye 167,863 Die Another Day 148,000 Give It 2 Me 136,854 Deeper And Deeper 134,764 Rescue Me 130,771 Rain 128,137 Nothing Really Matters 121,439 The Look Of Love 117,957 Secret 117,470 Lucky Star 102,739 Take A Bow 100,090 I'll Remember Of these, 11 are included on the track listing, 7 are not. Only 12 of 48 UK singles that sold over 100,000 copies are missing and everything is (in my opinion) well repesented from a "hits" aspect. As loomer suggested, if we found the most logical way to include "Sorry" (fourth tier seller, but an original #1 all the same) I feel my previous track listing could work for both markets. Ah, but how to do it... How about a similar list of US singles sales?

HolidayGuy
I've done estimates for U.S. singles sales, but since no official figures are available for her pre-SoundScan-era singles, it wouldn't be entirely accurate. Plus, airplay always has been part of the major charts, unlike the UK, so... acko, I never said anything about "Gambler" not being more successful than CFY in some Euro countries. So whatchu talkin' about? Worldwide, I'm sure, though, CFY is the more revered, popular track. BTW- per that Music Week article on her singles sales (which includes digital downloads), M had sold as many singles as the No. 2 and 3 females combined (Kylie Minogue and Whitney Houston). Minogue had sold 9.05m through that time. Would GI2M be as high as 148K by now?

Carta
OK, here's my take on a tracklisting. This was an extremely difficult task and was made all the more difficult by the fact that two new tracks will definitely appear on the collection. I made a general rule of including all US #1 singles and I ended up with all but one UK #1 (True Blue), too. Gems such as Cherish, Causing A Commotion, Burning Up, Lucky Star, Get Together and Rain should be on there, but there's just not enough space. A 3CD collection would come close to including all of her greatest singles, but even adding another 19 songs would leave out some great music. A 3CD collection would be ideal, though....maybe Warners will stun as all and head down that road?! I won't go into detailed reasons for each of the tracks - I don't want to bore anyone! I wanted to include at least a couple of tracks from each studio album and I stuck to this. For 19 tracks to fit on each CD, they'll need to be single/radio edits in most instances, even though something like Hung Up should feature the full album version (the radio version is what most people would be familiar with, though). The collection absolutely must be sequenced in chronological order - hopefully this is a no brainer for Guy and Madonna!!!! CD1 Holiday Borderline Like A Virgin Material Girl Into The Groove Crazy For You Dress You Up Live To Tell Papa Don’t Preach Open Your Heart La Isla Bonita Who’s That Girl Like A Prayer Express Yourself Vogue Justify My Love This Used To Be My Playground Erotica Deeper and Deeper CD2 I’ll Remember Secret Take A Bow You’ll See Don’t Cry For Me Argentina Frozen Ray of Light Beautiful Stranger American Pie Music Don’t Tell Me Die Another Day American Life Hung Up Sorry 4 Minutes Give It 2 Me New Track New Track
Guest Not4Pussies
ur tracklist seems good and reasonable hope it is something like that although i dont really see American Pie making it i dont think Madonna likes the song What It Feels Like... might take its place and it would be awesome if it all starts with Holiday and ends with Celebrate
Carta
Holiday to Celebrate does sound good As for AP, Madonna does actually like it - she just left it off GHV2 as "punishment" for its appearance on "Music", which she allowed herself to be talked into in spite of her judgement. Pabl0114
What if she does a Whiteny Blouston and releases a disc of slow tracks (with that im sorry song as a new track) and one of dance tracks(with celebrate)? also not go by just obvious hits but by what sounds good within The context of the album. Of course all tracks would be retouched and slightly remixed. I know it will never happen. Just thought it would be fun to speculate. Any thoughts? Guest Danny86
^I'm not sure about that, she has not been into slow tracks lately, plus all the new songs are supposedly uptempo, so it would look weird if the uptempo disc had 2-3 new songs, but the ballad one didn't. Oh and by the way, since the Sticky & Sweet DVD is featuring both "You Must Love Me" & "Don't Cry For Me Argentina", I can see both of them being included, possibly on the expense of "You'll See".
