ISTANBUL — Activists gathered in Istanbul to promote rights for gay and transgender people Sunday before police dispersed the crowd at a pride event that Turkish authorities had banned for the fifth year.

The rally on a side street to Istanbul’s main pedestrian avenue drew several hundred people, who cheered and waved rainbow flags. Istanbul Pride organizers said the Istanbul governor’s office banned the march from central Taksim district as well as a square designated for demonstrations west of the city.

Police allowed representatives to make a short statement to the media before officers dispersed the crowd with tear gas, blocking the street. Police dogs were also at the scene.

The Istanbul Pride group said it would continue activism to get sexual orientation and gender identity recognized in Turkish laws.

Amnesty International had urged Turkey to lift the “arbitrary ban” on the pride march. It said authorities rejected all suggested locations in the city by deeming the LGBT community “societally objectionable.”

I'm sorry but the Difference between QUEEN MADONNA and the other "cult " figures you mention Bowie, Prince etc.....

is that QUEEN MADONNA is still selling......still on top of the charts......still relevant (have you seen how many young youtube fans react?...or how many young people on twitter are now starting to give her praise and see her true artistic merit?)

Bowie, Prince et all....were "Cult" status......but also declining in sales....and artistic output...sorry.....

MADONNA is in a (pardon the pun) LEAGUE OF HER OWN......

Bowie definitely had a few renaissances like Madonna.
And sorry but HC through Rebel Heart (roughly ten years) is not gonna
win her any prizes in her retrospective biography for artistic relevancy.

Nor will I say that ‘Musicology’ was a return to form 4 Prince cuz it sold relatively well.

The zeitgeist, the sex, the fashion, the commerce and the politics…it all came together 4 them.

But it’s always gonna b about their respective classic periods in the end.
The rest will b picked up by the die hards.

Nowadays she seems more fearless in her work.

Truthfully though, I think we've experienced moments of regression.

Who would have thought, that the woman who put out
Bedtime Story and Human Nature back to back, as singles,
would evolve into an artist that one day would release stuff
like Turn Up The Radio...But I'm here 4 it all. All the more fascinating, I say.
I'm not down Bowies Let's Dance Era either, being the massive fan that I am.

And on a personal note...there must b a reason why i've been drawn
to Bowie, Prince & M since childhood.

A child senses these things. :fag: & My momma never lied 2 me.

I think Samo is entitled to his opinion. Madonnas message is about expressing yourself, after all. Shutting him down is like the people who try to shut down M. I was quite moved by the video because as much as I wan  to love this era, the title, the styling, the eyepatch, the concept and the songs have under whelmed me. But this was amazing - really felt like the essence of Madonna and what I love about her. I wish her management had had the guts to lead with this and I wish shed kept more with the two looks in the video than the eyepatch. That said, I think its ok to discuss madonnas body guards being armed, her last husbands use of violence in his work - and I do love the video, but I also somehow feel a bit uncomfortable about the fact it seems to use glamour to condemn shooting. The way its done feels like a glamorous really exiting movie. But that's what artists are there for and I think its great she's done this. Wish she would do a whole album of disco inspired songs with provocative videos!

Are u trolling? Like seriously, do u wanna pay her a compliment, which is optional of course, or r u just talking out of ur ass? R u talking about gun control here or something as superficial as an eye patch?

    Like What?

I am floored, once again, by this woman. I was probably the most concerned person on this forum about this video, thinking she was going to go batshit and do this wrong.

It is brilliantly conceived and the message is so smartly delivered. She really is a creative genius. I am very moved.

I think putting the shooting in the beginning and letting the 'song' take a back seat shows a lot of integrity.

Obviously, he worded it awkwardly, but is he lying?  I assumed he meant criticism (using the word "discussion" instead).

No he deliberately used that word to stay on the surface and avoid a dreaded accusatory phrasing starting with 'You'.. But The Demonna saw through it as if he were bathing in windex and made his testicles undescend and that was that... The bitch reporter decided to talk about the Dutch winner instead when asked to specify his question... Cuz what? 'TIMES UP'. Oh. or in this case saved by the bell.
