Of course these leaks always happen on purpose.
Like it. It's good but could have been better. I don't think this is the finished product though.
The chorus reminds me a bit of this song:
-
XXL, I do agree that HC performed better than AL overall- it lasted 30 weeks on the U.S. albums chart, compared to AL's 14 weeks. But, M also didn't tour to support AL until more than a year after its release. With HC, she started the tour only a few months after the album release.
Nonetheless, the fact that it ranked 15th on the IFPI list doesn't mean it was not a commercial disappointment. It just means that music sales in general were not great and other albums performed even more disappointingly.
With the new album, I just hope it's a strong record and let the commercial success- or lack thereof- fall where it may.
I am sorry but I disagree even on this because a tour has actually zero relevance in increasing the sales of an album however close the release of the album and the tour might be .... you can see in the charts stats of 2008 and see that the start of the S&S did little to increase HC sales. A tour for any artist these days it is made to rake in the big bucks that touring guarantees to the artists, especially in the case of acts like Madonna or U2 for instance. It is by no way organised in the hope it will push any album's sales.
Most of the work for HC was done by the first single which was a huge hit, its accompanying video, which was a satisfying video (the second one was quite dreadful and there wasn't a proper third single release), her 3 gigs in NY, Paris and Kent (BBC3 broadcast) and a few radio interviews .... when the tour started it didn't change anything in terms of sales for the album (just look at the stats).
I also disagree on the fact that general sales for each year are not relevant when judging a record's commercial success....ranking in the 15th position doesn't mean that other albums performed even more disappointingly it just means that for said year, in that particular market context a hit record, a well-received one no matter who the artist was or how many copies their previous effort shipped would only go on to sell a given amount of copies
I agree on the last thing you wrote. The only thing that matters is that her next record is a strong record in terms of quality (not that HC wasn't, some liked it, others less as with each of her records, because each one of them is different and an experiment) The sales are irrelevant at this stage.
She's had so much commercial success for such a long time none of today's acts will in the long run match her track record or I should say even be around in 20-30 years time.

Er what was the need for this needlessly verbose reply? He didn't diss her, he just said that COMPARED TO HER OTHER ALBUMS, those two underperformed. Jeez.
I didn't think he was dissing her, I was just stating that facts disprove his statements about those two records
underperforming and that albums shouldn't be compared between them but each one in his own context
and HC context was that of being the 15th most successfull album of 2008
That's all

^Yes- compared to her other albums, both AL and HC were big commercial disappointments pretty much everywhere.
That's not true. An album that's the 15th best-selling album of the year (HC 2008) and that had really minimal promotion can't be considered a commercial disappointment, sorry. And even AL had mismanaged promotion plus the controversy of the AL video, nonetheless it did sell 5m copies worldwide.
When you judge the success of something from an amount or quantity point of view you can't go like "the previous cd sold 10m copies (COADF) and that was 2 years and half ago therefore this one that sold 3.5m copies is a flop". You have to put the subject in its context.
The top best selling albums of 2000 shipped more units than the ones that were the top best-selling ones in 2005
And those shipped more than the top best-selling of three years later and so on. We all know the evolution of the record industry of the past 10-12 years due to a number of factors.
You definitely wouldn't say that an album with no substantial promotion that is the 15th best selling cd of the year is a commercial flop. And anyway in a career that spans 30 years, when you've had massive success throughout, it is only normal that out of 11 studio albums you might have 3 that sold less than the others
And Madonna is known for surprising people even on this front: Erotica and Bedtimes Stories ended up selling 6m copies worldwide each (and that to me isn't a commercial flop just because they didn't sell 20m copies like LAV, True Blue and the IC) than 4 and 6 years later respectively she came back and gave us amazing albums in terms of quality such as ROL and Music (12m copies + each) and she did the same with COADF after the AL backlash
I really want to see Lady Gaga, Beyoncè, Britney, Rhianna and Katy Perry or any younger artist male or female popular today enjoying the same amount of "commercial success" that Madonna did throughout her 30s and consistently throughout the whole of her 40s
-
Madonna had ideas similar to Kabalah before she got into it, making it look like it goes back further in her work.
Totally
-
the exact year is 1996
-
Madonna is here for the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
she could give two fucks about anything else.
The Queen has records to break.
-
Probably nothing, she's not hungry like Madonna was. She'll be filthy rich her whole life, so she likely will end up like Paris Hilton & Kim Kardashian. The siblings of famous celebrities rarely do anything, they usually just spend money.
Colonel Madonna is no Hilton family trash
she built herself from nothing with steely determination and military discipline
being a fan u should know by now how she's been raising those kids of hers
do u really think she's the type who's gonna allow her children to squander the fortune that it took so much work
to make? Not Madge's style

Personal opinions aside, you'd think fans would be used to this by now....quick recap....
2007 Live Nation 360 deal.
How is this any different than her putting her name to VCR's, cars etc. in those Japanese ads in the 80's? Or Pepsi for that matter? Or any of the other 10,000 things she's endorsed over the years. Why is this an issue only fairly recently??
Furthermore, how does any of this affect her art? She's always been a "sell out" (for lack of a better term) and she's also always managed to deliver the goods.
Some people on here are pretty obtuse. And in some cases they have crap tastes as well
-
Your constant Gaga obsession aside, I thought Madonna was supposed to be a lot classier than Lady Gaga. What happened to that?
These deals are part of the recording/touring industry. For small artists and for big names alike.
It's how the movie industry works too. Still the Gaga headphones were cheap and yes Madonna is way classier
on every level
-
The few times she did "settle down" and "act her age" she was labelled "boring" and "past it."
Exactly. With some people it's just the name regardless.
-
Put aside the looks and boyfriends for a minute. Just Madonna's seemingly unending ZEST for life has always been too much for some. She still works as if she's new to the scene and trying to get her name out there. She's never really stopped and 9 times out of 10 she's EXTREMELY successful in EVERYTHING she does. She's at an age now where no matter whether she were fully clothed from head to toe making "serious" pop songs, some people STILL feel like she should just bow out because she's "at that age". Put it like this....the fact that she still wants to "play the pop star game" (no matter what clothes or face she chooses to wear) in her 50's is rebellious. I think the fact that she's an unconventional thinker will always make her a rebel at heart. Look at all these artists who release some of their best material in their 50's and 60's yet only their core fanbases really know about it. In some ways I think ageism is more rampant than sexism or racism.
The journalist is just plain envious and it's personal ...... first of all she implies that Madonna manages to stay successfull and relevant at 52 merely because she puts collagen in her face or gets photographed with a 24-year-old model ...
Yet collagen is not enough to explain the 15th best selling album of the year at 50 (also appreciated by the critics -not as strong as ROL or COADF but still good, after 30 years spent with the same record company releasing new material every 2.5 years on average) plus the most successful tour ever by a solo artist.... She looks good because she's always kept a healthy lifestyle ...... she happens to work in a field where how you look is important so what......is she desperate for that? Among many other celebrities her age she is the one who looks good while still looking pretty natural (Griffith, Stone etc or even some male colleagues)
And if that's Anette Bening being 52....don't tell anyone she exudes confidence and contentment because either she is not 52 or if she is she looks 70....and it's not because she doesn't get botox. 52 yo working women don't look that bad.
I wonder if she's seen celebrities looking like plastic ........ real plastic, sometimes way before 50

Haven't you learned yet? You're not allowed to say one good thing about Madonna on her forum. You're only allowed to slice her throat from ear to ear. Anything else is unacceptable!

I don't think Madonna needs to do anything to keep her personal fortune growing. The interest alone on her bank account probably is enough to wipe the debt of multiple third world countries.
I think she does it for other reasons...she likes keeping busy and having different projects. She enjoys being a positive influence in the world, and although I think the name of these gyms is corny, the idea is not. Fitness is a great thing, and if her spin on personal fitness gets just 1,000 people interested, she's made another impact and helped more people. She is also probably venturing into new investment waters so that she has revenue streams after she leaves this earth - and those businesses will fund her various social projects (Malawi, Brazil, etc.) We have no idea what she has planned later in life.
I've also noticed that Madonna is very shrewd about cross-promotion. If these gyms generate significant traffic, she may have a new outlet to showcase her music, videos and tour performances. It's not like radio is going to be giving her much exposure anymore.
So, from a business stand point, the gym idea is great. However, being a fan of her music (first and foremost), I couldn't really care less about it.
except for the part on exposure on radio
not judging by present performance (52yo, 12 studio albums and 30 years into her recording career)

WHAT A SHOCKER! The same people who complained about:
-The same choreography for each performance of HU she did in the Confessions era (EMA's, Grammy's etc)...instead of switching it up with each performance.
-The Sorry, Jump and Get Together videos
-The announcement of her working with Timbo/Timber and Pharrell
-The free, made for a special cause song Hey You wasn't the next LAP or LTT
-Hard Candy album cover
-Hard Candy album
-She started selling concert tickets on StubHub
-Sticky & Sweet Tour wasn't as err...."thought provoking" as BAT or DWT
-2 legs of S&S
-Jesus
-cheeks
-Just about any of the magazine spreads she's done over the past 2 years (minus the Interview from this year)
-too muscly
-too many black clothes
-tired of her hair
-"Material Girls" clothing line
-Celebration DVD had too many songs left off and it wasn't THE ABSOLUTE BEST QUALITY AVAILABLE ON THE MARKET RIGHT NOW....nevermind it's the best any of us have seen these vids
-Celebration the song
-Celebration the video
-Celebration the album because it had a pop that may or not be heard when the volume is turned up to 50 in the car
-Revolver because she had little to no involvement in it's creation...and it had Lil Wayne
-S&S DVD because the vocals weren't RAW enough
-W.E. is taking away time she could be in the studio making music
-she spends too much time worrying about Malawi...and it's NOT for altruistic reasons but selfish ones.
and now....
THE GYMS
I've left off so many other things but if anybody actually made it to the end of the list of things I just named off the top of my head congrats. Feel free to add to the list!
Again, it's the same people. It's been 5 years and you've liked MAYBE 10% of what she's done and absolutely DETESTED 90% of it. It's safe to say you are done with her at this point. Why even bother to see what she's up to these days?
For those people log onto LGermanotta.com, she will continue to surprise you for the next 60 years
Why coming here? One thing is to criticise intelligently another is to trash the person this forum is dedicated
to out of boredom or envy........I wonder what does a thread titled *Madonna spreads her legs around the world
with new fitness centres* have to do with being a Madonna fan

How odd to be proud of being italian and enjoying mob films.
Sometimes I truly wonder what is your point in being on this discussion board
From what I understand it reads Madonnanation.com and not HatredformyselfandMadonna.com
