Macy's delivered a July fireworks show for investors yesterday -- with a little help from Madonna.
The nation's biggest department store reported a better-than-expected 7.3-percent increase in July same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least a year.
While other retailers, including rival JC Penney, were singing the back-to-school blues with sluggish monthly sales reports, Macy's CEO Terry Lundgren said the season is "off to a great start."
Lundgren cited the "phenomenal launch" of the new "Material Girl" fashion line, designed by Madonna and her 13-year-old daughter, Lourdes. Aimed at teenage girls, the 1980s-inspired line will include clothing, shoes, handbags and jewelry.
On Tuesday, Macy's launched the collection at the company's flagship store on Herald Square with a performance by pop star Taylor Momsen, who drew throngs of girls dressed up like Madonna. Macy's shares yesterday rose 34 cents, or 1.8 percent, to $19.78.

It was brutally aborted but maybe for the best. I don't think any other single from LAP would have been a smash hit. Cherish was the only choice after EY. Both Dear Jessie and Oh Father were minor hits and Keep It Together had potencial but not for Madonna's standards. It's maybe her best album, but lacks of singles.

She will probably use her for as long as she thinks she's useful and then dump her and trash her like she did with Britney.
If you paid attention to Madonna's career 2003-2010 you see that she hasn't dumped Britney
at all......
quite the contrary ............. if anything she has actually provided a shield for her
and been like a supervisor of sorts..... there's an interesting article from Vanity Fair
late 2007 in which it is described the hold and the exploitation that parents
of the likes of Lohan Britney etc have had on their daughters
negative influence and just exploiting them for cash
Now I wouldn never want to put Britney and someone like Lohan in the same sentence
Britney is Jesus compared to Lohan...... I am not talking on a personal level
but if we would have to classify them and profiling them on the commercial / fame side
Madonna has talked endlessly about the differences (especially when AL came out in 2003)
about the way she has emerged in the music industry and how all of her supposed pop
heiresses have......."Britney wasn't allowed a childhood"
