  1. Kurt, I totally respect what you're saying. And again, I do think what Madonna was going was leaps and bounds ahead/more controversial than what Gaga is doing, partly because of the time period and partly because it was just more sophisticated and "new." But I think what Gaga is doing falls into the same "brand" of provocation. She's obviously influenced by that period of Madonna's career and it shows. I'm not saying it's on the same level, just that I think part of her decline in popularity right now is because of it.

    12:51, I'm not sure it's just because Gaga won't "go away." There are plenty of artists who have been as prolific and in your face (Rihanna, Beyonce, Mariah). Hell, she's only been around for four years. Mariah put out an album a year for a decade! I think overexposure definitely plays a part, but I think if she were still releasing songs like "Just Dance" or even "Bad Romance," she'd be doing better. (Not that she's doing bad - she sold the same amount of albums in 2011 that she did in 2010 and 2009, and BTW was the third biggest selling album of last year, and it included four Top 10 hits, one of which was #1 for six weeks.) But I truly believe that the "Gaga fatigue" is partly due to her pushing certain cultural buttons. When BTW came out, I saw loads of people on other boards saying that she was instantly going to shrink her fanbase because the song was so "gay." To keep things on topic, Madonna was always popular with the gays for obvious reasons (like Gaga), but it's when she really started mining that demographic (LAP, "Vogue," Erotica) that she became a gay "icon."

    :lmao:

    sorry but everything Gaga has ever done to this point is SO GAY, and in a poor way too. nothing groundbraking or truly shocking in her brand of provocation. there is nothing to shrink. her real fanbase was gay and will stay gay till the end of her career (which she's doing everything she can to sabotage herself)

  2. :lmao:

    It always makes me laugh how people keep trashing Guy here making out he's some hated, has been. He's just had another worldwide smash hit with the second Sherlock Holmes film. He's not an unpopular figure here in Britain at all in spite of what the lambs here might say. He pretty much keeps out of the limelight, he's been very discreet about his divorce and just gets on with his film making. However, the poor lambs here will never forgive him for the divorce.

    As for Madonna, I think there is a respectful indifference towards her, like many great artists of her era. If she does something great, it will do well but if it's average, people will ignore it. They know she can deliver so they'll just wait until she does.

    I have nothing but admiration for Guy. I love some of his films and I recognise he has talent in his field. The second installment of Sherlock Holmes did as well as the first one grossing over half a billion dollars :thumbsup: I am glad he has found some commercial success too at last coz I honestly think doing Swept Away with Madge back then in 2001 interrupted his ascending trend (especially if you consider the gap between the numbers of Lock stock and the numbers and exposure his second outing Snatch received). I was agreeing with Wright's general implication that Madonna's success in the UK was independent of the fact that she was married to Guy just as it stands alone now that they're not married anymore.

    It was however a good phase in Madonna's career PR wise since the WHOLE WORLD loved to see her being the *upper middle class American wife of a "Britsh film-director" (with aristo background etc), currently residing in London*. It sort of exemplified her own nickname of "Queen of Pop".

    I have a lot of sympathy for Guy and I do think that those saying that because she and Guy parted ways, the UK public has turned their back on M and the press started depicting her as a rude materialistic bitch are talking bullshit. However it must also be noted that Madonna's level of fame was and still is huge compared to Guy's.

    Even in this trashy tabloid TV report, you hear some of those journalists pointing out why of all people Madonna chose Guy back in 1999/2000. He was a rising star on his own of course but once he was associated to M (she is so big to overshadow everything else) the press started to label him as a Madonna man, rather than Guy Ritchie, the film-director.

    Second Date at the O2 World in Berlin sold out in minutes!

    Madonna did it again in Berlin!

    Tickets for the extra date at the O2 World on June 30 went on general sale this morning, and in a bunch of minutes only spare seats in the higher price category were left, making this a second instant sell-out!

    :clap::clap::clap:

    At 53 it's the first time in Madonna's career that she announces a tour and people are buying tickets without having first listened to the entire album. If this is measure of a flop and not of ongoing (if not increasing) demand and popularity then tell me who is having it better than M is :thumbsup:

  4. No no - you've misunderstood. It states that I have:

    Package includes the following:

    * gold circle standing ticket

    * Early Access Pass - access the venue before standard ticket holders

    * exclusive gift

    * commemorative tour laminate

    The person I was quoting said that there was NO Gold Circle in Berlin, but my ticket details suggest otherwise. The "Early Access to the venue" is clearly stated everywhere, so there won't be any problems with this.

    I see. Great then :thumbsup:

  5. I find this thread hilarious only from the assumption that some people think Guy Ritchie is some popular icon in the UK. He is and always was a joke. An upper class guy trying to pass himself off as a mock cockney geezer. He has had a couple of successful films, but he is more famous for who he married (and divorced), and the divorce certainly has done nothing to dent Madonna's popularity. If anything the fact they are good friends and have worked to have a good post divorce relationship for the sake of their children has only added to admiration for her.

    Brilliantly explained :thumbsup:

    Now some people on here need to study this and stop speaking nonsense

  6. :lol: That video is a great example of mass hysteria. :wow: Yeah, I was speaking to my good friend Lady Jane Darling and she told me that she would never buy another Madonna record again! I mean, what with her not being a Great British housewife anymore. The WI are organising a protest and the general public are supporting a Madonna embargo. I just hope I don't see her around London or I might have to give her a piece of my mind! #shakes fist# Toodlepip old chum!

    P.S 12:51 I think you give media reports way too much credence. I think it may be more reliable to go from life experience. :chuckle:

    :chuckle:

  7. Thinking about doing to Milan, coming from USA. I still see 'hot tickets' available 328,25 € (Madonna - Hot Ticket Milano 14 Giugno - Tickets for MILANO

    Thu, 6/14/12, 8:01 PM Stadio Meazza Piccolomini, 5, 20149 MILANO). Does anybody know what this means or where the seat is?

    Any thoughts on Prato A? Is it just a crazy stampede?

    Prato A S&S for Milan was more orderly than the mess that took place in Rome 9 months before. Still if you hold a Prato A ticket for the Milan date make sure to arrive at the venue well-ahead of the opening of the gates, to secure you're one of the first among those holding a Prato A (Golden Circle) ticket. Also bear in mind that there's also people with an Early Access Prato A ticket, which means (unless LN screws up again) they will be let in first anyway.

  8. I didn't even realise it was Jessie J. It just sounded like another dire Katy Perry song.

    :thumbsup:

    By the way for those clulessly saying that Madonna British Housewife was Madonna at her worst :lmao: Madonna Lady of the Manor 2000 - 2008 was in fact one of the most successful moments in Madonna's career PR wise

    2005-madonna-vogue.jpg

    A Lady of the Manor singing a song like IMPRESSIVE INSTANT, donning a leotard for a 70's inspired dance record and begging people to see her toned 50-year-old booty get down.

    Telegraph

    FACT: Madonna was the most written about celebrity in the UK between 2000-2010, the fact that her and her British husband split is not likely to change things. She still has several properties there, spends time working there and has an half British son, right?

    2009 she sold out two wembley arena gigs after having filled wembley stadium barely 9 months before and that was post-divorce, right? And Celebration? And working with a complete British cast? Please.

  9. A lot of negativity aimed at M on her own boards from her own fans. Frequently.

    The same people that keep saying HC was a flop. The 15th best-selling album of the year. An album that had virtually no promotion at all on TV. Stop obsessing over Madonna chart position and appreciate the fact that at her age and after thirty years she still manages to look like she does, gets asked to take part in one of the biggest TV ventures ever, perform like she does AND score a top ten hit.

    And the ones questioning her ability to generate more sold-out performances in the UK market are even more ridiculous.

  10. It depends entirely on the venue, though. In Rome for S&S, they had a completely separate entrance for the Hot Ticket holders. Everyone was waiting around the gate for hours and hours and then we needed to collect our Hot Tickets from a special office that they'd set up. The Madonntribe webmasters tried everything they could to keep people in a line so that those who had been waiting the longest got to go in first, but as the day progressed and more people started arriving, it became impossible and the numbering system they had introduced fell apart. By the time the gate opened, there was a mad crush to get through (it was SCARY!!!) and then everyone ran like hell to get to the next gate, where we had to line up again to enter the stadium. Then, we were allowed in, and it was another mad dash to run to the front of the stage. Every single person who had a Hot Ticket was in the stadium and lined up around the stage/catwalk for at least 10 minutes before the regular GA ticket holders were allowed in.

    In Germany, it was VERY different. There was an extremely orderly line and everyone respected the queue. We were free to come and go as we pleased and you knew that you could rejoin the line in your original spot because the people around you knew that it was your place. It was extremely civilised! It became a bit chaotic when the gates opened, but the German guards were scary and yelled a lot, so it wasn't the mad rush that it was in Rome. Again, we had a completely separate entrance to the venue and were definitely let in earlier than the General Admission ticket holders.

    I think Live Nation will have learnt their lesson from the teething problems that happened with Hot Tickets earlier in the S&S tour. There were rumours back then that they would never be offered again, but the issue was that it wasn't made completely clear before they went on sale that "early access" to the venue would automatically come with the Hot Tickets. This time, there can be absolutely no confusion - pay extra for an "Early Access" ticket and that's what you get - early access.

    Rome S&S 2008 was really scary indeed. I saw people falling down and being almost crashed by a bunch of violent hysterical queens. :scared: Things in Germany were different as u said (and as one would obviously expect). Probably because in Germany there are rules, people who are happy to respect them and some other people hired as security you wouldn't want to mess with. People who are actually doing their job.

    I do hope LN have learnt their lesson too regarding clarity about VIP packages, Early Access Golden Circle tickets etc

  11. I'm wondering...I've got a ticket for the show in Florence but I'm unsure if I should keep it as it's a tribune seat :(

    Does someone know if the view from a tribune seat in the middle part of the stadium is still OK??? ...I don't want to see M as a little dot only :(

    To me for a Madonna concert it's only worth it on the floor and the closest you can get to the stage, especially if it's a stadium gig.
