Kelly Ripa Lets It Rip At Madonna’s NYC Concert: ‘Give It 2 Me!’
Published by MTV News on Monday, October 13, 2008 at 12:33 pm.
By Joe DeShano
The last time I saw Madonna, I was in eighth grade and she was gyrating on a bed. Well, when her Sticky & Sweet Tour hit New York’s Madison Square Garden on Saturday night, the show was a little tamer — and by little, I mean a lot, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t a few surprises. Pharrell came out early in the show for “Beat Goes On” — of course, it’s supposed to be Kanye West accompanying her for that song, but OK, I’ll go with it.
Big stars like Madonna bring out the celebs not only onstage, but in the audience too: And there were Chris Rock and Kelly Ripa, front and center. Kelly seemed to enjoy the show a bit more than Chris, who looked like he was serving some kind of sentence just being there.
Toward the end of the show, Madonna made a reference to what the sound of Sarah Palin thinking might be like, and answered with loads of feedback and distortion from her guitar. (She reportedly threw condoms into the audience after saying “I’d like to express myself to Sarah Palin right now,” but I didn’t see that from my seats.) The “Get Stupid” video montage came on, and of course had many dramatic images of war and peace and shots of Barack Obama — notably absent were the much-publicized video references to John McCain being Hitler, but the last song, “Give It 2 Me,” found Madonna and Pharrell onstage wearing Palin glasses and dancing up a storm.
But the show’s strangest moment came toward the very end, when Madonna handed the mic to the very enthusiastic Kelly Ripa, who sang/ screamed into it from the front of the stage! “Give it 2 me! Yeah!”
To Kelly’s credit, she didn’t stop moving for the entire show (I kept checking on her through binoculars from my bird’s-eye view up in the nosebleed seats). She’s definitely a Madonna fan, although whether she shares the Queen of Pop’s political views is anyone’s guess.

Beef of the Week
Madonna v. Palin: Bitch Fight!
AX TO GRIND Madonna, Sarah (inset)
Despite millions worth of pyrotechnics and surprise video appearances by Kanye West, Pharrell, and Britney Spears, Madonna's Sticky and Sweet tour has turned out to be neither. Insiders say that ticket sales have been unexpectedly soft. Though the tour has grossed more than $200 million to date, critics have been largely dismissive. "Has there ever been a colder pop sex symbol?" noted the Times' Jon Pareles in a review that described her "sweaty, unhappy, exhausted face" and passionless performance, and dismissed her act as "more aerobic than erotic." It's no surprise, then, that the publicity savvy ppp star is taking on on Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin in hopes of stirring up a little more heat.
Last Saturday's concert in Madison Square Garden promised to be no different. Appearing an hour and a half late for her sold-out New show without so much as an apology, the scarily skinny singer launched into into a joyless routine that left even her most ardent fans cold. But the sour mood changed half-way through the when the diva stopped to serenade a special guest—her daughter Lourdes—who was celebrating her twelfth birthday in the audience. Launching into the ballad "You Must Love Me" from Evita, Madonna announced that she was dedicating the song "to the love and and light of my life, Lola," noting that she first performed the song on the day that Lourdes was born and had written it while "she was was still in my womb."
Then the Material Girl went from maternal to menacing: "Where did this stupid bitch come from, anyway?" she shouted of Palin, to a thunderous wave of applause. "This is what Palin's brain sounds like when she tries to think," she continued, launching into a violently cacophonous jam on her electric guitar that's become a tour mainstay. Later, as photos of Adolf Hitler, Idi Amin, and John McCain flashed subtly on screen, the songstress challenged the hapless hockey mom to a one-on-one face-off, promising to kick her "stupid ass." Later, in a slight aimed in the direction of Palin's pregnant teenage daughter, Bristol, Madonna tossed handfuls of condoms into the crowd, each emblazoned with Sarah Palin's likeness.
Palin, busy being booed at a hockey game in Philadelphia on Saturday night, had other problems to contend with. Asked about the pop star's provocations, a Palin spokeswoman, after initially declining to comment, couldn't resist, telling Radar: "We have bigger things to worry about than the obviously deranged rantings of a has-been pop star." Speaking of deranged rantings, recent reports by Cindy Adams in the New York Post that Palin was making a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live next weekend? Not happening! A spokesman for the show told Radar, "That report is absolutely untrue. That said, SNL has an open invitation to all the candidates to appear on the show."

Up close of Kelly at the show
HILARIOUS!!
So, MSG was professionally filmed then?
Haha that was really cute and funny! Filmed yes, but not for home video at least. This footage here is from what's projected on the screens for people in the nosebleeds. This is filmed by only a small handful of cameras. When a show is professionally filmed for home video there's literally at least 20 cameras set up around the venue. That's so they have plenty of footage from many different angles to use and play around with in the editing room. All of these shows are recorded by the venues for their archive and the artist keeps a copy too to review over. But the footage from these is certainly watchable and it would be great if you could at least buy a DVD of the show you went to!
I would love to break into MSG's vaults and get their Girlie Shows!

Absolutely MAGNIFICENT. All of these pretenders to the throne need to watch THIS and take notes. This performance was so damn good that I get goosebumps thinking about it now.

It was WONDERFUL. MUCH livelier crowd than that NJ show I saw a week ago (though I did enjoy that show a lot too). My sista and I had seats in the 3rd row front floor 2nite, but because the guy in the front row was in a wheelchair, he had a big space set aside for him. We were able to move up in there right and be against the frontrow barrier. We'd go so CRAZY everytime Madonna came by our side and had plenty of room to dance, dance, dance. I pretty much gave up taking pics soon after the show started because it was too fucking rambunctious there (ultimately not a bad thing), and I wanted to dance too. I almost touched Madonna's hand but the guy next to me got to hold her hand instead. I was so close but no cigar!
BUT I sang into Madonna's mike during Into The Groove and Give It To Me!!!
It was so SCARY and exciting when she looked down at me and shoved the mike in my face! Right after those brief moments I was tearing up in awe and disbelief!
lol, I swear next tour I'm bringing my abuela in a wheelchair so we can be upfront.
She's Not Me, Vogue, Like A Prayer, Give It 2 Me, Miles Away, Into The Groove, La Isla Bonita, You Must Love Me, Devil are my favorite performances of this tour. She's Not Me is probably my favorite of all. She looks so fucking hot and fierce on the platform in the beginning of Vogue, and the sheer joy on her face while jump-roping during ITG is so cute! LAP is so grand and I don't want it to end. I don't mind her guitar playing during Hung Up, and think it's kinda hot towards the end and when she's moving on to GI2M. The crowd was great! They were especially on FIRE during Vogue, ITG, LAP, ROL, GI2M! And they very into Miles Away too. My voice is hoarser now than a chain-smoking granny tranny from singing and screaming for 2 hours! Of the 4 tours I've seen in person, I liked Confessions a bit more, but I liked this more than the DWT and RIT. This tour is enjoyable. Ignore the negative hype from the SHADOWS watching crappy youtube clips at home. This show is off the chain! Go see it!
zombie, great seeing you!
You were a bit frantic before the show but those nerves were completely gone once the show came on!

That is hot!
@ Kelly Ripa

I'll be there, I can't wait!
I'm ready to scream, jump, pump my fists in the air more than I ever have. This will be her best and most warmly received MSG show of all time!

Last night concert:
"She dedicated Express Yourself to Sarah Palin. Madonna said she wanted to Express Herself about Sarah Palin, and threw out condoms to the crowd on both sides of the stage. She said some of the condoms had Sarah Palin on them (they were passing out Obama and Palin condoms out on the street"
LMFAO!
It gets better and better!
-
She's just killing them night after night and hardly looks like she sweats.. that body.. wow i've seen so much more of that body lately than i ever thought i would.. even more so than RIT pit seats.. girl is just lettin' that body glow!
When I saw her a week ago I was amazed at her level of fitness. She's always been fit, but she seems even more fit than past tours. She was clearly working that body hard on stage, but she moved around so easily and didn't sweat much of the show that it looked almost effortless for her! She is extremely insanely fit!
-
-
Ugh I really wish I was there!
But I'll be there tomorrow night for the final MSG show!

Thanks to a kind fan I'm seeing the final MSG show tomorrow night from section 4 row C row! And I got it for face value. Thanks Joe love ya man!!!!!!

Madonna Mania Hits the Northeast With a Sticky and Sweet Vengeance
By Dan Bristow
Oct 10, 2008
Madonna Mania Hits the Northeast
The Material Girl, who originally skyrocketed to fame after moving to New York City and struggling as a music artist, has returned to her stomping grounds to bring the "Sticky and Sweet" tour to the largest media market on Earth. Madonna, the show business veteran whose body of work is so impressive, it would take pages and pages and pages to simply list her accomplishments, hit the Izod Center in New Jersey and tore the house down.
Part Vegas, part NYC nightclub, part house party, part big time legendary performer concert, the Madonna show was designed to showcase the ever-evolving performer's versatility, physical conditioning, music talents, and personality. "It was a great show!" raved Mark Hughes, a Madonna fan since the mid-80s, "I would rather see her in concert than anyone else in the world!"
Other concert goers concurred. Lisa Siemperve drove all the way from Athens, Georgia. "I've always wanted to see Madonna, so when my cousin called me and said she scored two 5th row seats, I knew it was time to ignore the gasoline prices and drive up North!"
The show was a smash hit. Madonna's legacy as a crowd pleaser lives on. Her rep for being outspoken is also intact, as she took the time to rip John McCain and endorse Barack Obama.
And the throngs held on her ever move, her every note, her every word. Because for this sold out crowd, this was like seeing The Beatles, or the final concert ever by the Stones, or Jim Morrison with the Doors. They didn't just go to a concert.
They got to see Madonna! Lots of photos from the show are here.

I hope Madonna burns an effigy of McCain and SMASHES a Palin piñata with her candycane on stage

You Must See Madonna Live!
Posted by Jarett Wieselman at 9:47 AM on October 8, 2008
Granted, I am not the world's No. 1 Madonna fan -- I don't bedazzle my own t-shirts with rhinestones spelling out "Her Madgesty" -- but I own every album and have been singing "Like a Virgin" before I knew what it meant. So I was excited to see her live in concert for the first time last night. I had previously passed up two opportunities -- Re-Invention World Tour and Confessions Tour -- to see a Madonna concert because the tickets were always so astronomically expensive. Well, now that I've bought, seen and survived, let me tell you that if sacrificing food, water or mascara for a week must be done to afford a ticket, do so -- this was the best $100 I have ever spent.
With every song, with every LCD screen, with every costume change, Madonna proved why she was still on top of the industry after 175 years in the game. The set list for her Sticky & Sweet Tour covers pretty much every album she's ever released -- "Borderline," "Into the Groove," ""La Isla Bonita," "Vogue," "Human Nature," "Music," "Die Another Day" -- with a heavy emphasis on "Hard Candy." There's also a dance-tastic "4 Minutes" and "Like a Prayer" mash-up that I would love for her to release on CD.
So if you can, pick up a ticket to one of her shows -- unlike her movies, you won't leave disappointed! Oh, and those rhinestone emblazoned t-shirt I mentioned before, I saw about 15 of them last night. The gays love a good Bedazzler!

Madonna to Sarah Palin: 'Get off my street!'
By ELOISE PARKER

You won't find Sarah Palin in the star-studded crowd for Madonna's Sticky and Sweet tour if the Material Girl has anything to do with it.
After telling thousands of fans at the New Jersey's Izod Center on Saturday night, "Sarah Palin can't come to my party. Sarah Palin can't come to my show," the queen of pop continued to make digs aimed at the wannabe veep at her Madison Square Garden show Tuesday night.
Celebrity fans and friends, including Rosie O'Donnell, Diddy and designer Michael Kors watched Madonna perform a string of hits including “I Love New York.” The song features the line, “Get off my street”, at which point, the outspoken singer shouted, “You know who can get off of my street? Sarah Palin! I'm gonna kick her ass if she don't get off of my street!"
Clearly getting into the groove with her anti-Palin rant, the 50-year-old superstar then mocked the Alaskan governor's accent, before sarcastically telling the audience, “I love her”.
Even Palin's husband Todd didn't escape Madonna's wrath, as she shouted, “This is the sound of Sarah Palin's husband's snowmobile when it won't start up in the wintertime," before creating some ear-piercing feedback on her electric guitar as she launched into hit single “Hung Up."
No stranger to controversy, Madonna has already raised eyebrows on her current world tour by projecting images of Barack Obama next to Mahatma Gandhi, while juxtaposing John McCain with Adolf Hitler.
No prizes for guessing who she'll be voting for next month.

Madonna leads fans through intense workout
By Frank Scheck

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - The Madonna concert ended nearly 12 hours ago, and this reviewer is still tired. And that's just from watching.
Of course, I'm not in quite as good shape as the 50-year-old Material Girl, who has metamorphosized into a lean, mean machine of muscle and sinew. That pumped-up toughness also is evident in her music as performed in this latest arena extravaganza, dubbed the Sticky and Sweet tour and promoting her recent CD "Hard Candy."
That album is generously highlighted in the course of the two-hour show, a good half of which is devoted to such cuts as "Candy Shop" (the opener, in which Madonna makes her entrance while seated on a throne), "Beat Goes On," "She's Not Me" and "4 Minutes."
She cherrypicks from her hits, forgoing most of her best-known tunes -- with the exception of such songs as "Borderline," "Into the Groove," "Ray of Light" and "Like a Prayer." Most of these are dramatically rearranged to give them a harder-rocking edge, with heavy doses of electric guitar and thumping bass beats. As with the performer herself, the sweetness in them seems to have been drained away.
There's a relentless drive to the proceedings that is almost unnerving. The headliner almost never stops moving, constantly whipping through intensely choreographed set pieces with her corps of backup dancers as if determined to burn off a certain number of calories per show. At one point, she even showed off her Double-Dutch jumping-rope skills.
She doesn't let the audience rest, either. Late in the show, she refused to begin one song until she had made sure that everyone in the massive arena was on their feet.
The one relatively quiet interlude was more bizarre than restorative. It featured an acoustic, Gypsy-flavored rendition of "La Isla Bonita," followed by the evening's sole ballad, "You Must Love Me," from the "Evita" soundtrack.
The singer showcased her physique in a series of revealing outfits, though they were mostly more redolent of the gym than the usual S&M garb.
Unlike her most recent go-around, there was little in the way of controversial material on display, with nary a crucifixion in sight. The one exception was the video montage accompanying "Get Stupid," which interpolated images of Barack Obama with figures like Nelson Mandela and John McCain with, among others, Hitler.
The Sticky and Sweet tour plays Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on November 6.
