Impossible for Madonna to include Peru in her Latin America tour

    Living in Peru

    Israel J. Ruiz

It would be impossible for Madonna to come to Lima on her Latin America tour, which is to begin in December, said Jorge Fernandez, an entrepreneur in the entertainment business at Show S.A. company.

Fernandez assured that it was not likely for the Queen of Pop to make an appearance in Lima due to the fact that she charges approximately $4 million per concert.

He explained that this amount could not be raised in a concert in Lima even if the National Stadium were filled to its full capacity.

"I am aware that a group of businessmen have come together to try and get the money but they themselves know that producing this event in Peru is a utopia. We don't even have a decent stage or good sound equipment to host a show like the one Madonna will put on in her new world tour," said Fernandez to Terra News.

According to Terra, the experienced producer said that the Andean country would be ready for a concert of this magnitude next year.

"We need more places to host events, more companies that provide sound, lights and scenery. After taxes were reduced things have taken off, that's why now there is more demand than offer and that is hurting us," explained the producer.

Madonna, who was ranked the "Best Selling Female Rock Artist of the Twentieth Century" by the Recording Industry Association of America, is scheduled to perform in countries such as Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Mexico near the end of this year.

    COOK, EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK

    Hi Fred,

David Cook's domination of this week's Hot 100 (11 debuting titles!) is certainly impressive, but I have to ask is it fair? I ask because of the chart rule that prevents older songs from entering the Hot 100. As you've often stated, an older title that sells well as a digital single (such as Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah" or Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'") is not eligible for the current Hot 100 unless it is re-promoted to radio and marketed as a new release (such as the case with Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" in 1992).

But other than Cook's winning "Idol" song, "The Time of My Life," are any of those older performance tracks being promoted to radio? Is there a label working them as current singles? For comparison, let's look at Tom Petty's recent success at the Super Bowl; "Free Fallin'" reached the top 10 of the Hot Digital Songs chart, but did not enter the Hot 100 because it was an older title. But if a download of Petty's live performance of "Free Fallin'" had been available and sold well, it most likely would have been allowed to chart, correct? It would be the same song benefiting from the same exposure, with neither being marketed as a new single. I guess my confusion lies in allowing live performances of older songs to chart, with no active promotion at radio, while the studio versions of the same songs aren't allowed to chart. It seems that all best-selling singles should be allowed to chart regardless of age---or live performances of older songs that aren't being promoted and actively marketed shouldn't be eligible for the Hot 100. One could also make the claim that album cuts not actively being worked to radio, such as those in recent years by Hannah Montana and Danity Kane, shouldn't be eligible either. But if the Hot 100 is a song chart now rather than a singles chart, then older titles that currently sell well should be eligible and reflect continued popularity for older songs and artists. I know you often turn these kinds of questions over to chart manager Silvio Pietroluongo, maybe he can clear it up?

At any rate, I'm not claiming any Billboard bias for Cook, and I congratulate him for his phenomenal success this week!

    Sincerely,

    Eric Colley

    renfield75@hotmail.com

    Dear Eric,

When the "American Idol" finalists performed songs live on the series this season, they also recorded studio versions, which were sold on iTunes. But the real issue here is whether the David Cook tracks are "old" or "current." Unlike Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" or Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'," songs originally released in the '80s, Cook's tracks were all performed within the last three months on "Idol." That doesn't really qualify them as "old" songs; they are still considered current.

Since chart rules were changed on Dec. 5, 1998 to allow airplay-only tracks on the Hot 100, songs do not have to be released as singles to chart. The situation that occurred this week with 11 David Cook tracks debuting at once could theoretically have happened any time since those new rules were put into effect almost 10 years ago. Of course, the circumstances that would allow that to happen are very rare, which is why it hasn't happened until now, and the rise of the digital download has made it more possible in 2008 than 1998.

    TOO MANY COOKS?

    Hi Fred,

I am looking at the new Hot 100 dated June 7 and David Cook, as you know, has six singles in the top 50. Is this wise on the part of the record label? When Peter Asher insisted on releasing Linda Ronstadt's "It's So Easy" at the same time as "Blue Bayou," "Easy" stalled at No. 5 and "Bayou" became arguably the biggest hit of her career (Asher had no confidence in the song choice). When "Into the Groove" by Madonna was getting airplay as a 12-inch single, it was not released as a 7-inch because it would have competed with "Angel," which was the current single from "Like A Virgin." It seems to me that not only are David's singles going to compete with each other, but they will over-expose him at radio and ruin a potentially great career. I know the Beatles pulled it off, but...? I'm mean, come on, the kid just won 'Idol' last week and he's halfway to a greatest hits package--LOL! Any thoughts?

Still love your column and live by your books.

    David Brosius

    Brookville, Penn.

    Dear David,

There's only one David Cook single at the moment, and that's "The Time of My Life," the song Cook performed in the closing moments of the seventh season finale of "American Idol." The other 10 Cook tracks that debuted on the Hot 100 are studio versions of songs he performed on the series, either during the season or on the two-night finale.

As noted in my reply to the above e-mail, chart rules in effect since Dec. 5, 1998, allow tracks to chart whether they are singles or not. Given enough sales and/or airplay, another artist could accomplish the same thing.

  7. [bREAKING NEWS] OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED: Sticky & Sweet Tour to stop in Lisbon.

    Category: Live Performances & Tours.

BREAKING NEWS - Last week DrownedMadonna.com and Madonnalicious.com reported about a Portuguese promoter claiming that Madonna's Sticky & Sweet Tour would have stopped in Lisbon.

Today, the Lisbon concert has been finally added to Madonna.com Tour Dates. The date has changed now: September 14. Also the final promoter is different: Everything Is New.

The show will take place at Parque da Bela Vista. The venue should have a capacity of 75.000 people. Tickets are RUMOURED to be just one price tip, about 60-62€.

Additional thanks to our community member Haku-San.

  8. BUT WHAT IS UP WIHT THE 350.00 IN THE STANDS? I TOUGHT THAT WAS FLOOR PRICES???????

It's like that at other shows too. Tickets in sections which were price level 2 on past tours are now price level one. It seems like more than 1/2 of the tickets in the venues are price level one. Greasy greedy granny :americanlife:

Oh congrats on getting tickets everybody! :tigger:

  9. What happened? Extra good tickets being released? It didn't happen for Montreal on the CT and it was because those tickets were handled directly by an incomptent antiquated local ticketing company that's worse than regular ticketmaster. Toronto on the RIT I can't remember it well when exactly but I do remember people being able to get some tickets from ticketmaster well after the public sale. As for scalpers, if you feel you must go that route and are worried you won't see ticket drops on ticketmaster, wait to buy from scalpers till much, much later on and shop around carefully. Wait till the week of the show. Their prices will be a lot lower than the nonsense they're asking for now.

  10. Guys, don't panic and be patient. You have so much time. Your show is about 6 months away. You have a lot of time and opportunities to prepare and hunt.

And OMG don't even consider those VIP packages. They are a rip-off. They are so not VIP! On forums nearly every fan bitterly complained about them on past tours. In most cases the "VIP" seats they offer are just ok at best (at least 1/2 way back in the venue). And those other added features are quite lame and so not worth the extra $225. The pre-party is very cheap -- warm stale beer, wiener dogs and chips! The gift is likely a poster or lithograph which is mass produced and not so collectible when you discover 100s of them selling for $5-$10 on Ebay after the tour is over. All those crap features are worth probably $25! Save your $$$. You're better off using it that $575 on a scalper who can get you a much better excellent seat. You'd very likely find a very similar and even much better seat yourself on ticketmaster than what's offered in the VIP packages, and save yourself a couple hundred bucks.

If you really really want peace of mind for months try to get a decent seat when they go sale on ticketmaster, but for months afterwords keep checking back there frequently, you'll very likely find something better on ticketmaster. You can try to Ebay your original seat, but be aware you might need to sell it below face value because Ebay will be flooded with many people desperately trying to sell their seats by then. Oh, and yeah, if you want to try a scalper wait till then since their prices will be a lot lower than what they're delusionally asking for now.

I think it's outrageous and unprofessional how ticketmaster and Madonna Inc. expects people to plunk down A LOT of $$$ for seats on ticketmaster without having an accurate official staging layout there! :grr: I doubt I'm finding and buying for myself for a long while anyway (for NY shows), but I hope this staging layout is cleared up before this tour starts in August.

  12. Ugh they better clear up this seating chart nonsense by the time the public sale starts!

Of course they didn't. And here's what Icon says

"We understand the frustration with not having the exact seating chart to review when you are purchasing tickets for Madonna's Sticky & Sweet tour. Like all previous Madonna tours, the Sticky & Sweet tour will be a visual delight for all her fans. And while the exact staging and performance elements of the Sticky & Sweet tour are strategically under wraps until the tour opens, fans should be assured that the tour promoters have worked very closely with the design team to ensure that all seats on sale will offer the best possible sight lines. And the ticket allotments during the Icon presalepossible sight lines. And the ticket allotments during the Icon presales have been chosen to provide members with the best possible locations and sightlines as well. In the coming weeks, Icon members will also have a chance to enter exclusive contests and win front row concert tickets. Stay tuned for more details."

  13. NOOOOOO

    The tickets are sold out

this could only mean one thing....

    ...stubhub :scared:

No no no!!! Don't panic and don't buy anything from stubhub! At least not now. There will be more tickets released on ticketmaster awhile from now. I've done that many times for Madonna and other big tours at MSG. I almost never bother with the initial public sale. If you feel you must go through stubhub, Ebay or some scalper site, don't consider buying from them for a long while. They start their prices extremely high now when there's nothing available on ticketmaster (to take advantage of panicking people who can't get anything on ticketmaster). The scalpers have a HUGE inventory for each show and months from now it will become a competition with other scalpers to get rid of their leftover seats. Their prices will gradually drop over the months as the show approaches. This happened on the last two tours and those shows had more hype/anticipation/commotion than this one's been getting so far. Be patient for more tickets to be released on ticketmaster and check back there frequently, or at least wait for prices to significantly drop on stubhub, Ebay, etc.

  14. so anyone think I got majorly screwed in the ass with $354 tickets for section 221? Should I call and ask why 200-level seats were so pricey? maybe it was a glitch???

Yes I think you've been screwed. Because it's MSG in NYC and Madonna they assume they can get away with those prices. Loge seats towards the stage (though not up close) and the very back of the floor cost price level 1. I certainly wouldn't want to pay price level 1 to sit there while people much, much closer are paying the same. And people literally just a couple rows away at this show are paying price level 2. If section 221 cost price level 2 that would be an alright price for me.
