Every passing year I'm more convinced that we're getting more stupid.

Yes, we are. People are unable to react in a moderate and rational way anymore. Now any reaction is excessive. You can no longer ask people to take basic measures, because either they do nothing or they take actions that go way beyond what is necessary to do.

80% of people catching coronavirus have mild symptoms.

2002 SARS mortality rate was 10%. But of course there was not social media back then

And the world was much less insane and quick to mass hysteria and mass misinformation. Imagine if Facebook and Twitter had existed with such a mortality rate.

And yet she still had more votes at the end. Arenas don't mean shit if those people don't go to the polls. Look at this year's turnout. Sanders is getting fewer voters to the primaries than he did in 2016, yet they still go to the arenas. Young people simply don't vote as reliably as older people. It's a mathematical fact.

    This.

The supposed "Bernie's army" just don't show up to vote. Yes, there are a lot of young people at his gatherings and who follow his various social media platforms, but this medium counts for little in the end because it does not turn into a ballot in the ballot box. Young people are rightly skeptical of the democratic process they have known since childhood, but they cannot change it if they do not participate in the democratic process.

It has been proved and reported it's not lethal for kids

It’s 2020, so don't bring scientific facts to people. They prefer to remain in mass hysteria by taking their QUALITY news on Facebook or Twitter.

  5. Yes, you are completely right but it is unfortunately the moderate or liberal US citizens (and collaterally the population of the world) who will live the disastrous consequences for 4 more years. Trump has already caused irreparable damage to the democratic system, system that has already been sick for several years. I hardly dare imagine the state of global democratic regimes in 4 years. This reality is much more dangerous and worrying than the coronavirus but unfortunately people don’t care. It is much easier to lock yourself up in mass hysteria about the end of the world prophecy of the moment (Y2K, 2012, SARS, coronavirus) than investing time and energy in better understanding geopolitical issues and their consequences for the common good.

  6. This is precisely the discussion I had with my spouse over supper. They learned absolutely NOTHING from the 2016 defeat. At least in 2016 they had the excuse of not having taken the threat seriously. This time, they don't have that excuse. Dems establishment imagines that Trump is just an anomaly and that politics will be able to return to what it was for the last 60 years. They will therefore still crash and we will have to suffer for the next 4 years the horrible consequences of their strategic incompetence. As if uncle Joe would be able to beat Trump. :banghead:

    This.

The reaction of people, the media and governments is beyond ridiculous and currently more disturbing and dangerous than the virus itself.

Fact: influenza infects about 1 billion people each year and of that number, 250,000 to 600,000 people die each year without that fact making the headlines.

  8. Again a great demonstration of the collective hysteria triggered and fueled by misinformation of social media. The coronavirus is less contagious and deadly than the ANNUAL flu strain.

A few days ago a newspaper had the headline that best sums it up: The risk of contracting mass hysteria is much higher than coronavirus

I can *almost* give benefit of the doubt for '16. I know I'm not alone when I say, I didn't think Trump had a chance in hell. I truly didn't think Americans would be THAT stupid....boy was I wrong. And given how polarizing Hillary was from the get-go, I can understand the saltiness of the "Bernie Bros". NOW though?? Nope. There's no excuse to try with the same shit this time. Obviously, they should put all their energy into supporting him now but for the life of me I can't understand them totally shutting down EVERY other possibility already just because it's not exactly what they want. We are in CRISIS right now with Trump and the brainwashed GOP. They are making this way too easy for them.

Seriously, I believe that the damage done to American democracy is so deep that it is no longer repairable. There are 2 factions that oppose with people totally disengaged in the center. Put the same context in a country of South America and you would have a country already in civil war.

The "my way or the highway" mentality of certain factions of the Dem party IS incredibly unfortunate. Talk about shitting in your own bed.

Hillary is too "cold", Pete is too....whatever....racist I guess now? Is that what we're rolling with?? Biden is too "corporate" and represents the "old way". Basically, anyone that gets any bit of momentum over or equal to Bernie becomes a "problem". I really do like and respect Bernie but his diehard supporters can truly fuck off. Equal to Trumpers in my view.

In principle, given the critical urgency of the situation and the little time left to save what's left of American democracy, the  Democrats should have had a short primary process and be prepared to side with any candidate. ANY. Unfortunately, the diehard Sanders supporters are already ready to redo the coup of 2016 and not show up at the polls if he does not have the nomination. :abuse:Democrats have been making it so easy for Trump for the last 5 years. It is beyond me.

And yes, Bernie's diehard are extremists as dangerous as the Trumpers. They treat their candidate as being a cult with a mentality of : you are WITH or AGAINST us without any nuance.

So, Pete intentionally went in to fuck over AA's in South Bend? Is that the implication here.

He may have been uninformed about certain things but please let's not like he went in with an iron fist with the intention of hurting the AA community.....which is the narrative some people are attempting to create.

Yup.....Trump got this in the bag for 2020. Thanks Dems! Keep waiting for that perfect candidate. #wonteverhappen #dreamon

    THIS. Unfortunately. 😢

  12. Social medias are the worst thing that has happened to our democracies and to our societies in general. All these fake news and group allowing to reunite disturbed people made the air particularly toxic during the last 5 years. that's why I left all social medias except Instagram 2 years ago and I'm so good at no longer seeing the completely false bullshit and dangerous stories that are peddled there.

I don't find Sanders proposals to be extreme in any way. It's all common sense really. Unfortunately, he's seen as being way too out there for too many people, even a lot of Dems. I do like him and would vote for him in a second if he's the nom but if he actually won, anything he'd try to pass would just be a major uphill battle most likely resulting in a lot of disappointments.

It does seem though that Sanders in 2020 or someone else similar in 2024 would be the logical yang (no pun intended) to Trump's ying of the past 4 or 8 years.

From Canada, Sanders' proposals appear anything but extreme, as they correspond to many of the policies we apply to reduce social inequality. On the other hand, in a country as deeply individualistic and unequal as the United States, what he offers is a real revolution.

Are Americans ready for a gay president? :1251:

Unfortunately no. Maybe 10 years ago. But now with the meteoric rise of conservatism and the massive influence of religious extremists, no chance. Moreover, the vote of African Americans and Latino Americans is crucial in this election. Generally, they are more conservative electorates on the issue of homosexuality. They will probably abstain from voting if Buttigieg is the Democratic candidate which will ensure Trump's victory (a victory which is unfortunately almost already guaranteed anyway).

No Democratic candidate is strong enough anyway to beat Trump: Bidden is too old, Sanders is too old and too progressive, Warren is also too progressive. They will all lose a different essential electorate in the election.

I don't know how I'm going to endure hearing about this piece of shit for another 4 years. :zombie:

Pete FTW! I’ve always been team Pete. Not only is he the best looking ( 😉) but he seems the most inspiring. Reminds me a lot of JFK. so happy he has won Iowa and now hopefully others will see he is a real hope to get rid of trump.
but apparently the blacks won’t vote for him. Why? 🤷‍♂️

Simple-minded listeners (fans and GP alike) may have a hard time wrapping their head around songs like "Dark Ballet", "God Control", "Killers Who Are Partying" and even the house jam "I Don't Search I Find" but that's their problem (to quote her British Vogue interview). The boundary-pushing force must continue to work - that's what we need, at this point where the mainstream stuff out there can hardly be called "music". The situation has gone THAT BAD. The task to bring the light is on her.

    Amen.

Seriously, it completely beyond me that some supposed fans do not consider Madame X as a important album in her discography and especially as being the way to follow for the end of her career. This album represents her at her most uncompromising and fearless. Two major qualities of her personality and her career. Madonna must take advantage of the fact that the commercial portion of her musical career is over to follow her muse and produce daring material that will benefit her legacy.

Mainstream pop is in its most dismal state EVER. However, there is excellent pop in the margins but it never comes to the fore. Even today, Non-entity Gomez is everywhere with her new album of boring faceless pop while Georgia offers at the same time a much better album which will not be know outside of a small group of insider.

  17. The level of venom that is directed at young people who still have everything to learn from life but who are trying to find Their place in the world is really disgusting. Whether it's Greta, the survivors of the Parkland massacre or any other youngster who protests on the street, they are trying to make a difference in a collapsing world we have given them and by making mistakes normal for their age and according to a code of value that we gave them. This way of knocking them out with reproach for each error is a way of trying to silence them now so that everything remains exactly the same for previous generations. Sad.
