Trying to belittle or condemn anything Madonna did or said when it comes to being a gay rights pioneer and AIDS advocate is so offensive and angering.

I think people today fail to remember what a big deal it was to be an AIDS advocate in the mid-80’s through the peak of the crisis. For fifteen years it was hell. Gay men were literally pariahs and the disease was used as justification for horrific homophobic segregation, violence and abuse.  Delta Airlines threw a gay man with kaposi’s sarcoma off a flight in 1986, and their lawyers argued that the family members of a gay man who died in a plane crash should be compensated less because he was going to die of AIDS anyway. No one would touch people with HIV. They were called AIDS victims or patients. It remains one of the most horrific chapters of inhumanity of the 20th century. Madonna was so massively impactful in normalizing safe sex as a mainstream concept, in normalizing the lifestyle, the behaviors and the culture of gay people beyond AIDS while simultaneously and very privately volunteering her time and money to care for people with the disease and fund research that was desperately needed as the US government under Reagan had done nothing to prioritize the scientific advancement of treatments and care.

Madonna should be sanctified by all gay men for her sacrifices and her advocacy, and the fact that there are gay men who have such disdain for her or dare to dismiss her importance is simply shocking and repulsive to me.

    👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Thank you.

if you give a speech, please don’t imply that you single handedly rescued the gay community. I know what you meant last time, and appreciate the huge strides you made for us. But our struggles are still our own, and we rescue ourselves, with the help of our allies. But we aren’t just passive victims without agency.

What are you even on about?

She has never said such a thing. 🙄

Yeah but Madonna did lots of press for WE , which came out the week of the Superbowl.  She had ONE hour specials for Graham Norton, Anderson Cooper, the Good Morning America/2020/ Nightline Cynthia McFaden Interview, Rock center Interview, Superbowl press conference and separate interviews with journalists, another one hour special episode of Ellen DeGeneres Show while on tour, appearance on Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Conan show behind the scenes of MDNA tour, Harper's Bazaar, The Advocateand Vanity Fair Italia covers

She did A LOT of press , it was just more geared towards WE with the album only being casually mentioned

MX is shaping up to be her least promoted era BY FAR

I don't think it will be the least promoted, or at least I hope. I think she has a lot more in store, and will come out in full force closer to the album release... I would suspect we should start seeing a lot more action from this coming week onwards.

A three star review is not good, especially from Rolling Stone.  Her worst score ever.

    A 2 or a 1 star score is bad, not a 3 star.

These were RS scores on her previous albums, as shared by @Shaun earlier in the thread.

    Debut: no star rating

    LAV: 3.5

    TB: no star rating

    LAP: 3.5

    E: 4

    BS: 3.5

    ROL: 4

    Music: 4

    AL: 3

    Confessions: 3.5

    HC: 4

    MDNA: 3.5

    RH: 3.5

    MX: 3

So no, not her worst score ever from RS. They also gave AL a 3 star, and it's a brilliant work of art. So to be honest, after reading their basic review which barely talks about the music, I couldn't care less what score RS gives.

"The only issue with Madonna is that she dared to age in front of the world.

She did not die like Michael Jackson, or left the Spotlight to live only as a recording artist, not a touring one. She doesn't live solely by greatest hits like Cindy Lauper or Elton Jhon. She is living as a woman creating and making new music, wether you want it or not."

    👏👏👏👏👏👏

    Thank you for sharing!

This. So much this. And thank you for sharing the photo of the poster on the tube!

It's wonderful to witness M almost 40 years into her career still creating, making music, and putting together amazing shows like only she can. We are truly privileged. :inlove:

Unfortunately that's not even credible anymore, after editing the vocals of a live performance.

Anyone can say now that she did it again.

    Such a bad decision, honestly...

I understand what you mean, but let's not let the negativity get to us. She would be dragged having edited the vocals or not. People that hate her can find malice in everything she does. We have seen that many times before, and will continue to see for the years to come.

Knowing Madonna as we all do, she more than anyone must have been truly disappointed with how things worked out, so no need to keep dragging her down anymore. I think it's just time to move on and enjoy all the amazing things still to come.

I think they have been picked first due to the fetaures rather than being the best and most single worthy cuts from the album. I think there's some proof of this in the fact she has had a music video ready since February but not released it yet and that song is just Madonna no features....obviously focusing on the features first is to drive (hopefully) more of the general public to these songs/videos after all Swae Lee is one of the biggest streaming artists around.

Completely agree with this. Just made a similar point in the Album Discussion thread.

This is amazing. Thank you all for sharing all these review teases. Sounds so promising! I knew she would deliver the goods, and this project would be another creative peak in her discography. This will be a killer album!

Can't wait to read the full reviews and listen to album in June, 14th.

I had mentioned this before in previous discussions, but I believe the chosen singles/buzz singles were primarily chosen by Interscope/Maverick to reach different segments of the market, but I think fans would prefer much more to get the 100% Madonna songs first. It's a marketing strategy, and I get it, but at this stage in M's career, it doesn't really have much impact.

I'm so excited for all that's still to come. 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

Noticed that when it comes to the US media, hardly any mention of the bum notes on LAP...all attention is paid to the political nature of the performance, and the flags presented. And not overly negative, from what I've seen. Interesting.

If it was Gaga, she would have turned it into a victim trip, blaming depression or some shit, and I guarantee, the media would have been so supportive and encouraging. But it’s Madonna. And it’s popular to hate on Madonna. I saw a bunch of “fans” on M’s fb account bitching that they too had the “right” to express their satisfaction and be objective. So I replied to them:

“Yes you can be objective. Yes you can express your dissatisfaction with the performance. Just remember, there are millions of you and there is only one Madonna. Kick her down to the floor with your criticism till she breaks or be a decent human and help her get through this difficult moment!”

The press and social media have been absolutely despicable in Europe, but I’m glad in the US they are focusing on the message and not on the flat notes.

If this were Caca, you can be sure the next day she would be posting a selfie from hospital saying she had to get emergency surgery because her vocal cords had been damaged. 😂

I do think it is time to move on though. M fans need to stick together and not surrender to the ridiculous claims that this is the end. Please don’t question her artistry or talent. That’s exactly what the haters want.

This woman has seen it all, done it all, and always overcame the obstacles put in front of her. This won’t be any different. ❤️
