  1. Well SOME album has to be at the botton when people ask for a rank, haha. I put LAV there because I rarely ever listen to it. Not because it's "old". But it's still one of the classic pop records of all time.

Oh, and I know people both young and old who aren't really open to listening to lots of new music, especially varied types of genres, or bother to go back and listen to some classic music from 50's, 60's, 70's onward or before which has most likely influenced what they listen to today.

  2. I know a lot of casual fans who like songs like Secret and You'll See. In the 90's she did a lot of ballads more than in the 80's. There are a lot of older more casual fans who love that whole AC ballad 90's Madonna. It's not my favorite period, but a lot of people love it.

In fact, on some of the ballads on Rebel Heart there is a throwback to that softer 90's period.

So true about Rebel Heart songs reminding me of some of her 90's ballads... 'You'll See' would be great to hear again! I think she did throw that one in for a night in one of her tours...

  3. What about making the show into two Acts, A Rebel Act and a Heart Act? The older songs can be grouped as either Rebel songs or Heart song as much as songs from the new album. It might be an interesting way to do the setlist rather than the usual 4 acts, since it is called the Rebel Heart tour.

As most of the songs from RH are quite short, I don't see her doing songs that are 5 or 6 minutes. I don't remember any MDNA songs going on for that long, They seemed similiar to the recorded versions. But I agree it's probably not a good idea to shorten older hit songs.

Well Gang Bang was 5:54, I don't give A 5:27, I'm a Sinner 6:45, I'm Addicted 4:42 and then too many interludes which weren't exactly short in and of themselves... but then again, those were some of the cool parts of the show, though I did think some went on too long while watching. Oh and Like a Virgin Waltz at 5:15 which I know is an oldie but I literally heard people groaning and then getting up to leave, lol

Anyway. not trying to bitch, just point out something that I noticed when watching and afterward with the DVD... pacing and theme can make all of the difference regardless of song.

Oh and as for the comments on 80's songs from various people.... people might think they only know her 80's stuff but when any given number of her hits start up, you'd be surprised to hear the number of "oh yeah, I know that one!"

  4. I wanted to pick the first one, but was RIT 80% hits? I thought she did a shit load of AL songs in there, I thought it was more like 70 - 30 even, or 65 - 45.

I don't even mind 50 - 50... here are some ideas though - some of the new songs like in the MDNA tour went on too long... don't do a new song that is nearing five to six minutes unless there is something so spectacular going on it needs it. The crowd just gets bored (on the flip side, don't do too short either, like when she finally got to 'Papa Don't Preach', she did it for like a minute and half). Just like Goldilocks wanted, just right, haha.

I don't think she'll do as dark of a show again this time - concept, lighting, attitude... it can be a cool idea, but not everyone is into it, especially causual people who get a lot of joy out of Madonna's music. Heck, even some moments, but not a majority.

Overall, I'd say as long as she doesn't make people wait too long beforehand so they are pissed to begin with, engages the crowd a bit more, has good sound and a good pacing of songs, she can sell the new stuff, and people will be happy with it.

  5. I can't wait to see what times Madonna hits the stage on this tour. I KNOW the show will be worth it at the end of the day but I'm just hoping the issues are behind us.

A friend of mine considered us waiting until around 10pm to go into the arena. I said, my luck she will have started at 8:02 and we get the last 4 minutes of the encore lol

I know.. that is always the conundrum of going to see concerts, what damn time will the artist come on. I guess at arenas, it is usually fairly early. I am pretty used to waiting for shows (but most of the shows I see are at clubs)... I guess most of the GP who go to see huge acts at arenas aren't. Madonna simply cannot start late this time. Thank God i've held off on booking any tickets at all.

Sorry to those who are having headaches.

  6. Yes. The #1 most inspirational.

    - Her fearlessness inspires me.

    - Her drive. The incredible success she has attained is completely inspiring.

    - Her control - she has never had a drug meltdown or gone off the rails.

    - She helped me to accept a lot of things about myself, especially being gay... I had a hard time in my teens dealing with being gay (even suicidal) and her words, the music, the messages, it all helped me in terms of acceptance.

    - Her vocal techniques have inspired me to sing, and how to sing. I believe Madonna is someone who really understands technique, melody and harmony. Even if she isn't the best singer in the world. But just because a person has huge pipes, doesn't make me automatically like their voice. Madonna's techniques have taught me how to sing.

    - Her knowledge of the world inspires me to be a more open person to what the heck is going on worldwide... not that i would be completely ignorant to it, but seeing my #1 favourite artist believing that certain issues need to be brought to light and spoken about inspires me.

  7. :rotfl:

It has nothing to do with that. Proof is there is some final version I prefer over the demos. It's the case for everyone.

And WTF is the comparison with the grass greener on the other side ????

We're talking about fucking music, lol

Our preference is purely objective, it's a matter of taste, that's it. Stop trying to overanalyze. You're the only one to blame if you can't (or don't want) to enjoy the demos like some of us do.

Well first of all I was just responding to a person saying that they wish the demos were on the album and vice versa. I completely believe that if that were the case, people would STILL be complaining about what made the cut. And then I used psychology to think about it, so what?

Yeah, sure I might be over-analyzing (Sigmund Freud, analyze this ;)) , but it isn't just music and that's it, people have reactions and feelings to music. Maybe for you, it is very basic.

And I don't even know what the fuck you are talking about with "I'm the one to blame"... I was responding to someone else having an issue. I actually love the demos and the final tracks! But I feel like there is no 100% answer to what is the best version for most of the songs when it comes to everyone, not just one person.

Why are people so freaking touchy when it comes to the demos? Chill, for Chrissake.

  8. I just wish some of the final versions on the album were in fact the demos and the demos were the final version. Songs like Wash all Over Me, Rebel Heart, Living For Love, illumisnti and sex were much better in their demo versions.

Yes, but even in reverse you know that there would be people still complaining that they think the demos are better, and that demos should be on the album. Maybe not yourself, but somebody, lol.

It's a psychological thing, a case of the grass is always greener on the other side, and yes, as someone mentioned, there is also the effect of hearing the very first demos on preference. No wonder Madonna didn't want people to hear them this way.

  9. As many have said, I was referring to the grill. I would like THAT to be retired. Why would I be on here if I wanted Madonna herself to retire?!

By the way, I wasn't going on a grill bashing tirade or anything. I was just responding to Pud Whacker who commented on how her mouth looked. That's my main issue with the grill. It makes her mouth look all weird.

Pay no mind to some people around here who are extremely touchy, lol.

  10. I`d be happy if she did a "Something To Remember" type compilation for her next album, and some of the amazing demos from this era can go on that (especially songs like the Joan of Arc demo) and they could be nicely mixed for the album.

"Rebel Heart" could go on it too, but honestly, the Aviccii version needs to be updated in sound.... It really does sound way too much like "The Days" as someone posted earlier in this thread. But it could be a version using a lot of the same elements (the voices in the background for example).

"Borrowed Time" demo would be cool to incude as well, and many more of course. And again, a finalization in mixing for the album, but don't let Kanye near it, lol. At least in terms of whatever happens with her voice like on WAOM, which I still love, but still... I can hear her voice better on some of the demos!
