  1. Be careful, Petrus!!!!!

My BIL and SIL are supposed to be going to Istanbul at the end of this month. My SIL is Turkish, born in Ankara. We visited in '08 when they got married. The best trip I ever took.

Her parents still live in Istanbul. I'm nervous for them. Not sure if they are still going. I'm sure my MIL is going to try to talk them out of it.

makes me so sad that so many horrible things have happened there in recent years. :( I love Turkey so much.

  2. It's not about guns, or cops.

SOME people are afraid of others that do not look like them. SOME people think they're entitled to more freedoms than others. SOME people hold tight to generational prejudices to make themselves feel empowered.

These recent tragedies are just examples of a bigger underlying problem that has ALWAYS existed in this country from day one. At least now, SOME of us are able to talk about it openly.

    It's not gonna change.

There is so much to this problem, I don't think we can nail down one exact cause.

What I do wish is that there could be more crisis training, more emphasis on mental health (I mean, it doesn't help when your job is one where you are constantly fearing for you life), especially more awareness of PTSD for those in law enforcement. I don't see how one can expect to keep a level head and maintain the utmost standard of professionalism having a job like that. That line of work has got to fuck with your head.

Also curious if a psychological profile is done on those wanting to enter the police academy? I mean, how do some of these fuckers even get in?

  3. Someone rang in to Radio 2 on Friday and said they were with their black husband in Brooklyn and they drove off and got stopped for some minor car problem; the husband was asked to show his ID and when he went to get it, the policeman shot him in the arm. The policeman said he thought he was going for a gun.

Utter joke. It's like the police are deliberately doing it to make a point of their power. I'm still utterly shocked at the number of deaths for what are just minor offenses.

So many cases of DWB, it's fucking unreal.

  4. Oh please, they're doing this because it's an election year; watch how silent they'll all fall after the election. Manipulators and opportunists is nothing to be proud of. They look like a bunch of damn hippies, which only fuels Trump btw.

Republicans and Democrats are of the same coin. Manipulators and opportunists.

So, what's the alternative here? What should they be doing? Please enlighten me.

  5. Ten and a half hour gun control filibuster still happening in the Sentate. Hopefully the majority voice will be heard. I still feel like an underdog though.

Americans, PLEASE call your local senator to support the filibuster.

855-331-8593. You will hear a short message from the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. You will then enter your 5 digit zip code, which will put you through to your state senator.. You then say, "I am calling to support the fillibuster."

The Brady campaign will be backstopping the numbers using your zip code to know how many people have called.

Please do it, it will take you (at most) two minutes.

    This is happening right now:

  6. It's terrible but she was probably so scared of him she felt she had to do all that and couldn't go to the police or he would kill her or beat her up. He beat the crap out of his first wife.

It's crazy how this incident brings all the current US issues of homophobia, Islamophobia, fundamentalist religion, immigration, gun control and domestic violence against women into one mess of horribleness.

It's hard to know where to even begin to talk about or address the issues brought up by this attack. All this problems come together in this, it's so crazy!

I do not want to excuse the fact that she did not go to the police, but yes, I have a feeling she was a victim of domestic abuse as well. No telling what was going on at their home.

    Terrible situation all around.

  7. I am so beyond pissed the fuck off today. Still. I should feel more sadness (and I do), but...

This country has lost it. I really have no hope left.

    ITA.

I feel as though we (as a country) are so far into this that there may never be a way out. That there will never be a resolution. That things are only going to get worse, not better.

I would love to be proved wrong, but yeah.

  8. TMZ has video from inside the club the moment the shooting started. I can't bring myself to watch it.

I absolutely will not watch that video, but part of me just wants to say, "you know what? Maybe we all need to witness something like this to wake our asses up. "America is so blind and numb to this epidemic. We hear of stories, reports, accounts. But most of us don't SEE it. Gun violence is so a part of our culture, that I think it is just ingrained in us that this is what happens here.

What is it going to take before we finally come together and collectively say "enough! "Is it going to take something extreme? Are we all going to have to individually witness gun violence firsthand for anything to happen? I just don't know. I feel hopeless about all this. I hate that I feel that way.
