  1. I don't know about everyone else but I didn't get home till 2:00 am. After I got off the subway the buses going across center city stopped running but I heard nothing was going to be affected until today. I had to take a cab.

Fell asleep as soon as I hit the bed and woke up just in time to get ready for work. Shutting most of the transportation in the city down should make for an interesting weekend.

  2. The point is as far as aesthetics and props Gaga is the one who stole from her, not Madonna. Grace and Madonna couldn't be two more different artists, androginy themes aside and still done differently. What is offputting about Jones statement is that she is saying Madonna is like Rita Ora

She's seen Madonna when Madonna was becoming Madonna in the coolest artistic place in the world and in its peak time. Grace knows best than to come out with a list like that, I get that she needs to plug her book but that's hilarious. I'm not even paraphrasing, it's her words

"Be like Rita Ora, be like Gaga, be like Miley, be like Madonna. I can't be like them because they're already being like me" Right :rotfl:

Everything would have made perfect sense if she hadn't lumped Madonna with Rita Ora etc to be honest

Thank you, and doesn't this woman have a thread in the music section? Go stroke her inflated ego there. It's obvious she needs it. I mean seriously, Madonna would be criticized mercilessly if she casually lumped someone of her status with a bunch of that artist's wannabes and from her own fans too.

It's okay to be delusional about someone if you are less successful then they are?

If you are so great go out and get on with it....are some responding to it? Are many responding to it? Is that your reason for your art? Don't you just want to make a statement? Go make it.

All that stuff that I care nothing about, that should have been mine.

  3. How pathetic Is it that people feel you have the right to write garbage because you are not at the level you feel you are entitled to.

She has a lot of nerve lumping Madonna in with a bunch a "media portrayal of Madonna" wannabes out there.

Madonna is where she is because of her hard work and music.

I am suppose to overlook her disrespect because what, she's not rich?

The ones who claim to be just about the art and don't care about money seem to be the most jealous when others succeed. If that's what you really were about than you would be content.

You cetainly wouldn't be writing some whiny book.

It just absolutely makes me ill how people automatically think that people who are not as successful or rich as someone else have halos over their heads and get all this room to say whatever they like about anyone.

  4. Hi, Larkspur! No, you're right ... that is the rumor, and that's true, she made a decision out of loyalty and solidarity, and that is surely admirable. This thread is sort of hypothetical - what we expected. (Of course, with Madonna, we should expect the unexpected!) But honestly, Madonna's name was attached to CHICAGO (along with a catalogue of other actresses) since the 1980s. The time w/ Goldie Hawn was just the closest she got to actually doing it.

The director attached at that time (of Goldie being released and Madonna resigning in solidarity) was fired because he had no cast. At that point, another director could have been hired to work with Goldie & Madonna in a fantasy universe. (Directors, of course, want to do their own casting for leads. Or at least have final say.) So, I'm not saying she should have gone ahead w/o Goldie. Just saying it would have been nice if Miramax would have stood up for Goldie (and then Madonna). Just sad the way it turned out, that's all. One regret I have for her and her career. She would have been perfect; the film won an Oscar and there were plenty of noms to go around. She may have finally been nominated, at least.

At the end of the day, I'm grateful for what we have!! Don't misunderstand, please. Was just going with the theme of the thread.

Hi Peter! I just remembered that and felt the need to share it, just because. I understood your post and share in your disappointment at a missed oppurtunity regardless of how it was missed.

  5. Many interesting and thoughtful suggestions in this thread... The one that comes immediately to mind for me is CHICAGO. She should've been Velma. (i guess Fosse may have wanted her for Roxie back in the 80s... either way, a huge loss. Especially in comparison to the fact that she made Swept Away at the time when she could've filmed Chicago....)

Didn't Madonna not do Chicago to stand by Goldie Hawn? I don't think her decision was made poorly.

  6. I think Madonna realized after having children how empty friendship is and simply values it for what it deserves to be valued.

People love Ray Of Light but hate that Madonna has priorities over her friends and her career. She found out what is really important while others worship people who flatter them.

  7. I don't think she gives Piers a second thought even though he is a complete revolting person. Rosie O'Donnell filled in for Piers Morgan on his show and Sean Penn has done interviews with Piers, both Sean and Piers being very chummy with each other. She is still great friends with Rosie and Sean. I think she does not worry who others associate with. Just takes the high road and rises above it all.

I am sure Rosie was paid and more then happy to fill in for a talk show considering that is what she does, then you were forced to go to someone you can't stand who probaly was promoting his latest work or endeavour. That is not exactly hanging out. I am also sure Rosie has made her opinion known and wasn't afraid of Piers.

Find me a friend of Madonna who is actually close to someone who hates her.

If Madonna, Rosie and Piers were talking and present at the same time I can't see Rosie being silent if Piers started insulting Madonna. (Can you?) Look at Kelly, look at Meredith Viera who I am not even sure how well she knows Madonna. Just a woman sticking up for another woman.
