  1. Ex fans.

As others have said they should know better.

Haters are usually people who she didn't do things for, are jealous, put her down and are angry at her success, are not into her music and their opinion of her is shaped by the media....

They are not better but they are mostly unknowledgeable and must don't care to look beyond what others say, write...

There has been a concerted effort to change mnds of people who have enjoyed Madonna's work. Ex fans can't take the criticismshe receives and when there is real push they forget all the reasons they loved her and focus on the criticism. I wouldn't be surprised if some would blame her for a radio station not playing her music because she got older. People are so obsessed with what other people think today that it is quite easy to sway opinions.

  2. ^ I am going to take this opportunity to be professional about it. I am truthful in what I say about the album and the songs when talking about my personal experience and what I enjoy but a critic should step back and not let anything influence their opinion other then the work before them.

I adore her and her work so it's going to be difficult and I am not going to say I dislike something just to throw a criticism in there. I'm going to attempt to educate myself a bit before I write my review.

Being a fan on a forum giving an opinion and getting paid to do a job reviewing music are two different things. There are a lot of "writers" out there that need to be reminded of that.

How long do we have Stephen?

  3. Madonna unveils renegade, romantic sides in new album 'Rebel Heart'

By Patricia ReaneyNEW YORK | Mon Mar 9, 2015 2:58pm EDTEmailFacebookTwitterBy Patricia ReaneyNEW YORK (Reuters) - Madonna proves her staying power as a creative force and an enduring pop icon with her new album, "Rebel Heart," her 13th studio release that also shows her renegade and softer sides. It is a revealing portrait of the Material Girl, showing the Grammy-winning singer as a trail-blazer and provocateur but also someone who is sensitive, reflective and outsider.Madonna, 56, told Reuters that the album's title "Rebel Heart" reflected her original intent to make a two-sided record featuring 10 songs on each."One side was going to be the more rebellious, provocative, envelope pushing part of me and the other side was going to be the more romantic, vulnerable side and they end up getting all mushed together," she said."Rebel Heart" is her first album since 2012's "MDNA," which shot to the top of the Billboard 200 chart. It is also somewhat autobiographical with tracks like "Veni Vidi Vici," which chronicles her career, and personal, revealing feelings of insecurity, heart ache and loss. The album's 19 tracks includes lush, lyrical ballads, such as "Devil Pray," "Ghosttown" and "Joan of Arc" that ponder the meaning of life, breakups and love."Each time they write a hateful word/Dragging my soul into the dirt/I wanna die/Never admit it but it hurts," she says in "Joan of Arc."But Madonna also lets loose with catchy dance numbers including "Living for Love" and "Unapologetic Bitch," a collaboration with Grammy-nominated American DJ Diplo."He likes to make people get up out of their seat and dance and so do it," she said about Diplo."Living for Love," the lead single has a thumping disco beat with lyrics about the heartache of a parting and picking herself up to find love again.Madonna returns to themes of sex and religion, which she said she finds infinitely interesting topics."They are as important to people as they are misunderstood," she explained. "They both bring a lot of light into the world and a lot of darkness. For those reasons, I like to explore them."For "Rebel Heart," Madonna collaborated with rapper Kanye West on four songs, Swedish DJ and producer Avicii, American producer and songwriter Toby Gad, among others. West, rappers Nas and Nicki Minaj and boxer Mike Tyson also lent their vocals on tracks.Madonna will support "Rebel Heart" with an international tour beginning in Miami on Aug. 29.(Additional reporting by Alicia Powel; editing by Piya Sinha-Roy and W Simon)

  4. Madonna became like an indie artist to me maybe as early as Like A Prayer, kinda. There was a lot of superstar Madonna going on at that time but the direction she took in Like A Prayer impressed me so much. Coming off phenomenally successful True Blue, she didn't try to recreate it. Even though she was really up on a pedestal, she started to get criticized for her artistic choices and my own idea of indie was music and artists that a lot of people didn't "get." I liked that. She had something to say.

90's Madonna is when I really started to enjoy her as my "indie" artist. She was sooo criticized by the media and public in the early 90's but I treasured Erotica. It felt like no one knew about this amazing album but me and I loved that. I felt like that through the 90's. I loved other acts and bought singles and occasionally albums from the popular artists of the time but Madonna was like my own favorite artist that I "got" and she "got" what I wanted to hear and talk about. I really had no idea "how" successful she was until I joined the forums. That was in 2011. Because for most of her career that was my experience of her, no matter what goes on on the charts everything is as it always was.

  5. Yet Madonna and her lovely voice are way ahead of you screeching rockers and your halloween costumes and way way way ahead of that disaster you're praising. Why don't you go admire your collection of that intellectual pursuit of taking a photo of very bimbo you slept with? BTW did you make it into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame yet?

  6. The argument about quality of music is an obvious blatant lie, Taylor Swift could release the worst song ever and it would still get played, it's automatic, they don't examine the quality of every song sent their way, they just play what's hot. On the other hand, I don't get the big issue here. Radio stations are all based on connecting to a specific audience, therefore they all select and discriminate in some form or another. They don't play folk music on an RnB station, or hardcore rap on a top 40 pop station, etc. They don't play French songs on an English station, nor Polish songs, etc. If Radio 1 aims a certain youth audience, it makes sense that they would not play a single from a 56 year old artist, objectively speaking. The problem might be media convergence, the overwhelming homogeneity of radio and media. If Radio 1 is the most important radio station and it defines somewhat the playlist of many other radio stations in the country, then that is the problem. There should be enough diversity in media to insure access to any artist, and especially active musicians like Madonna who have a huge following, to airwaves.

Genre is different from an age of an artist. But hey if choosing a certain age group is their thing than put it up in lights and stop giving a song and dance about how they don't discriminate against older artists. An RnB station, Rap station, French Station, and English station are all correctly informing the listener what they are about.

Top 40 pop station doesn't say anything about age.

  7. You know I have talked and talk a lot of shit about the neighborhood I grew up in. I felt the same way she did in school. I wasn't yearning to be like anyone else I just couldn't find anyone who was interesting. I was bored in high school and cut class to go to museums, but mostly go to the library and read.

It's not from a feeling of thinking I was better, it was from a feeling of thinking no one around here gives a damn about anything I think is important or interesting. They willfully limit themselves to work, complaining, watching tv, football, beer.

I know that not everyone in my neighborhood would limit their interests but it sure felt that way and you start to feel like an outsider because everyone over here are all enjoying the same thing and you can't find anyone who is interested in anything that you are. They might be if they dared do anything away from the group once and awhile but most like to stay with the group. So you want to leave.

  8. "Really? Is that how its broken down? Im so stupid. I didnt know it was anything to do with my age. I just do my work."

Just to comment on this quote from Madonna.

I can really relate to Madonna on this in a sense that I forget how a lot of people are. I have always related to her living as if everything is as it should be. That more than anything is the reason some get upset at her and others think she is clueless.

  9. I would like to say that I truly, truly loves reading your assessments. I love when fans take the time to discuss the music. We have very similar tastes, and I especially love your reviews of Wash All Over Me and Messiah. I like your comparison of JOA to Carole King's songwriting style. Only thing I disagree is that I love the production of Inside Out. It's neat to have a classic Madonna melody with dark industrial production.

    Thank you!

Thank you! I feel the same about your posts.

The thing with this album for me is that I am finding elements I really love in every song. For instance I adore the very beginning of Heartbreak city. This is how I feel about it this morning.

Thanks for your thoughts on Inside Out.
