This song deserves more love. Her voice is a major instrument in it. Everything, the guitar the strings the percussions the vocals, they blend smoothly into a unified whole that is just so pleasant to listen to.

I really like it, I just wish it didn't remind me so much of HC (my least fav album)

I've tried to limit the damage on here but I mean this ish is number 1 trending on BBC News, was on both breakfast shows, Victoria Derbyshire, This Morning, Loose Women, all the papers. It's really quite awful.

Jesus it's THAT bad? I'm not checking out any shows and been staying away from the news..well for the most part, and yet I'm still depressed. I'd probably get suicidal if I actually checked out what the media is saying:lmao:

As someone said in an earlier post, the GP had put Madame X aside, thinking she had almost stopped making music. This is the first time, after the fall @ the Brits, that Madonna is the main topic of discussion and the main dish for haters' lunch. They were just waiting for something like this to happen and took the chance to let their ancient vitriol flow... This is just part of a well known cycle (Erotica/Sex book anyone?), the only difference being the rise of social media and the constant need to spit on anything that comes with it.

Nowadays, everyone feels entitled to leave an immediate comment on every subject, even the ones that need a specific knowledge. No research, no curiosity, just the impulse to have a say in the matter, and that's easy to do hiding behind a monitor.

IMO this magnifies the backlash and our perception of it, given that the LAP performance has been truly pretty unfortunate.

The artistic concept was there (even as a Met Gala rehash), vocodered Future was just splendid (apart from Quavo), the LAP execution a tad below expectations.

Being a trained singer myself, I tend to think it's been a combination of both technical issues with mic and in-ear monitors and lack of vocal warm-up. If you notice, some notes are sung in "glissando" , meaning that she's trying to adjust the tune after a flat start. This could confirm a real problem with monitors. On the other hand, the inconstancy of her vibrato (when she gets it right, it's wonderful) shows lack of vocal practice before the performance. That said, it wasn't the disaster they're claiming it to be.

Leaving technicalities aside, there's also something really positive: in specific frames, her tone is thicker, richer than usual, especially in the deep range. Her voice shows a new maturity and that's a gift. It just needs more work and I'm sure it will be done just in time for the tour.

Also, the continuous talk is working as a mean to spread the real message of the performance and raise awareness about new music from M. Haters and GP are going to stream the album for sure, even if only out of curiosity and in search of something to criticize...And I'm sure they'll find a pretty solid record, with little space for critics.

So, let's just wait a little bit more and see what happens: the tide will start to turn #soon!

    Great post!

I’m glad she’s still promoting it. She’s meant to cower and do as she’s told because of some negative feedback? Anyone would think she beheaded dancers live on stage. Big deal. Life goes on.

If you referred to my post, I'm actually glad she's doing it.

  5. I can't stop feeling sad about this and for her.  Sad, pissed and confused.  I don't understand how a huge moment like this went so wrong. I don't understand how in the last few years most of what she does becomes yet another opportunity for the public to viciously attack her and for her name to take blow after blow, it's exhausting and downright fucked up.

This well known (in Italy) Italian TV presenter, DJ and huge music connoisseur, has posted an absolutely brilliant review of Madonna's Eurovision show, talking about the symbolism in the theatrics, the meaning behind all that, praising her hugely, and like many others astonished by the level of horrible vitriol she got - thank you @cocolattee for letting us know!

It's amazing that he completely understood what a huge chunk of Madonna fans clearly did not get at all.

Thank u so much for posting this!!! what a brilliant review he gives, especially as this guy is huge here in Italy he's not just a nobody.

    It's traumatizing :lmao:

Its nowhere near the CATASTROPHICAL event people are making it out to be but yeah. M was always praised for her amazing performances and seeing ppl say it was boring (among other vicious shading thrown at her)is a huge blow to our ego as fans.

  8. She should've done a nice medley of her biggest hits and then brought Maluma on stage for Medellin...thing is even if she wanted to do that, she wouldn't have had enough time. You're gonna tell me "but the political message, but the controversy", well she shouldn't have to sacrifice good music in order to deliver a message. And if you're gonna do that then it better be fucking epic and controversial and just huge. I didn't even notice the flags in the first watch.
