  1. EPIX isn't a huge channel, though- though it may have some sort of exclusivity rights to it for a few months.

Yep. EPIX is only carried by one of the big four US cable providers, and then a bunch of smaller ones. Comcast, Time Warner, DirectTV, etc. refuse to carry it.

HBO would have been much better...but they seem to have stopped airing concert specials like they used to. Fuck.

ps. As long as someone rips the video and the audio (separately) in HD quality (and AAC itunes/or MP3 320) to upload right away (which I am sure someone will), then I'm good.

I want that HQ audio. NOW.

  2. I kind of always felt that M would do some apearances after the tour and continue the seemingly "over" MDNA ERA going. She was so pressed on time with the tour, she didn't have time to promote so she put all her focus on the tour which she knew would pay off in the long run. And it did. I think her & her team had an idea that if she put all her focus on the tour, shed be recognized for her efforts. I just wish/hope that there's still some MDNA music to be released. Maybe a live Gang Bang for the DVD. Anyhow, it's payed off. If she would've focused purely on the album promo, she would've missed the mark with the toour and touring is seen as more ucrative than a few extra million in record sales. We, the fans, would've boasted its success but if you lok at it from this perspective, the music speaks for itself and I prefer her reigning in the touring department as she constantly does no matter how successful the records are and she's still on top of her craft. Live performance is much more impressive a feat than going on some shows and promoting your cd. Our bitch conquered the world audience. The way its perceived is subjective but as we can see with Billboard, it turns a seemingly "blah" era in the promotion department, and makes it all worth it. As fans, we got everything and more from the music, visuals, and tour and still its not like she did a small venue's tour. She sold out all over the globen she has been a massive success with MDNA. I hope, more people recognize the album's greatnes when they see the live show and have a feeling epix will get massive viewership. Hopefully we see a commercial on tv for epix MDNA showing. It'll all be worth it for M and co.

Very well said. The industry money, and power, really is in touring...ESPECIALLY in the long-run. Seriously, think of how many artists sell records, or chart with their number ones, but can't sell out a single fucking tour...let alone a few solid shows. Some in theaters...arenas, if they're lucky. This lady consistently sells out stadiums (and arenas) 30+ years into her career...while artistically being ever so on top of her game, not relying on hits. I mean, with all the complaints she gets that she doesn't perform enough hits...people the world over STILL come to see her show, because her shows have become to be known as a true work of art in and of themselves. The only artists that can still do that on their own are the old-school rockers...and most of them rely on old-school hits to sell. And then, pop/dance artists...are you kidding? A genre that is basically geared to young, unknowing music buyers with their so-called "princesses" and "queens" that only last so long, if they're lucky.

I think we fans underestimate just how powerful, and unbelievably smart, Madonna is, in every way. Don't get me wrong, a good solid single (or two) charting well, and solid/reasonable sales for an artist this far into their career are important...but the window of major sales and charting is only a small one for nearly all artists. The longevity is based on so much more than that, and M knows it. And it's what she does best.

  3. You can tell they go from the in-door arena stage shots to the outdoor stadium shots (with the custom built proscenium and top row of lights and side screens)...but it's pretty seamless. They've blacked out most of the crowd, but it still feels like they are there (unlike the CT film where it almost feels like there's no audience in some parts).

Honestly, I'm not bothered that they go from arena to stadium ... just never seen that done in a Madonna tour film before. They must not have gotten what they fully wanted with Miami only.

I wonder if they'll even mention the audience during the show...probably not necessary anyway.

I mean, only us hardcore fans are going to notice.

  4. That GMAYL clip is AMAZING!!!

I think the editing is actually NOT too frenetic. I was expecting faster cuts and closer shots, and they actually made a point to capture the whole feel of the show and the whole stage. YES!!!

The color looks great. And while it has a "film" like feel, you actually feel like it's still a live show (At least for this act). Not what I expected. Much, much better actually.

And it looks like they took wide shots from a stadium show, because you can see that row of top lights (that wasn't arranged that way in the arena shows...unless it was in Miami, which would have been different from the other arena shows). They're definitely using shots from different venues besides Miami, including a stadium show... but it looks seamless.

And the audio mixing sounds GREAT!!! It actually sounds like you can hear the band's instruments...and not just putting the studio versions on top. It actually sounds like you're at a live concert! FINALLY!

Fuck. Now I can't wait. (and sadly I don't think I get EPIX. Somebody better upload that to the net...and rip the audio in super High Quality when it comes out).

  5. Youtube blocks the teaser trailer? WTF?

I have to admit, Youtube and whoever is getting things blocked (record companies, studios) are fucking stupid because half of the time, they block shit like this - a teaser trailer - that is made to PROMOTE the product...? Seriously? How stupid can these companies be?

And they wonder why so many continue to pirate their material. It's their own fault.

  6. what other 'stuff'?

Her art, her name, her image is a brand. It just is.

She did this era like all the others...the material was good...it just lacked a serious promotional and marketing strategy from the management end. that's all.

Overall, I loved it. Could have used a few stronger songs, and a seriously strong single with some innovative promotion...but other than that, at this point in her career, she focused on what she is known for - live touring. Her bread and butter, and where the money is in the industry now. Radio is not the end all be all for a woman at this point in her career and at her age, which, yes, is bullshit that's sadly out of her control. So she focused on what she does best. And The MDNA Tour is one of the best tours she has put on. I think the divorce and last decade was a turning point for her, and MDNA was about not just celebrating aspects of her identity (the self-references, etc.), but really re-discovering the essence of who she is, her personality, etc. The good girl is gone. Revolutionary, political, bitchy, unapologetic, take-no-prisoners Madonna woke up and came back.

  7. I think deep down Michael was a homosexual in the closet and Madonna probably could sense that and wanted to drag him out of the closet or at least push his buttons. That's why he was scared of her. I mean funny how she wanted him to go to strip bars where men dress as women and that bothered him so much. She also wanted him to cross dress in the 'In The Closet' video and he refused and that's why the project fell through.

MJ was not the brightest bulb let's be honest. That's why he went down the way he did, he wasn't as savvy as Madonna and was hyper sensitive. I don't think Madonna was truly mean to him, she just liked messing with people in a playful way. Pushing their buttons. Tbh I think most people would be intimidated by Madonna especially in the early 90's when her ego was at its peak.

I was thinking the same thing. Well said.

  8. Here is what the President of Universal Music Russia (they released her albums here), Dmitry Konnov, wrote about Gaga's concert in Moscow on December 12th:

"Lady Gaga's yesterday show was the first stadium concert of the Twitter era artist, which I was able to see. You can be the best in 140 symbols, return the attraction for music videos, but this knowledge will not teach you to keep the audience and to build a two-hour show."

  9. It is all about the head. Fat people will lose weight from their bodies just not their head from some reason? They all end up looking like blonde ( just not as gorgeous) with big heads and small frames- hence the weird look/ composition. I call it the blonde syndrome

I've seen that more so on people who have any kind of weight loss surgery. The body seems to lose fat differently that way.

If you lose weight naturally, it usually goes from the face/neck/arms/legs/etc. first...and the areas where the most weight is carried last...but I think it depends on the individual. I also think genetics, skin elasticity, natural bone structure and a few other things plays in too...I've met some gorgeous people who were very heavy, but they lost weight naturally and you would have never guessed they were.

With Perez, I don't know. His natural bone structure and face shape is simply not attractive, and never was to begin with, regardless of how much weight he lost or how in shape he got.

He simply didn't win any amount of the genetic lottery whatsoever.

  10. Confessions edited out the speeches, which is why we get that awkward "Yeah! We can do anything!" In the beginning of Drowned World.

Actually, there is a bit of a speech during the Confessions film (her thanking people, etc.)...was it longer and they edited it down?

I believe the NBC broadcast edited a lot out, but the DVD is the full show.

  11. So many people consider 'Hard Candy' to be Madonna's divorce album, even after MDNA came out (Rolling Stone, Spin, People, etc..) To me, MDNA is the ultimate DIVORCE album. The anger, pain, anguish, regret & hurt are so on the surface. How so many miss that, I don't understand.

Oh wait, this is a thread on Gwyneth. :huh:/>

    Absolutely.

I think Hard Candy is the beginning of the end of the 'marriage' era of her life...the need to break free, dance like there's no tomorrow to escape the hell in the moment (the pending divorce).

MDNA is the aftermath...the reflection of all the festering pain, anger, rage, etc. of not just her marriage...but that whole time of her life (finding the man, marriage, babies, friendships ("Gwynny", etc.), being the British housewife, being the "good girl" wife, etc.)...to look back at it with a slightly sentimental but ultimately critical eye, take the piss out of it, light it on fire, give it the finger, and walk away.

And that's why I find the title "MDNA" so great. Not just as a cheeky take on the drug reference, or a statement of a woman in her 50s still sexy and provocative that can dance circles around her 20-something contemporaries...and that the album (and the tour), not only celebrate aspects of her "DNA" or identity...but what it is ultimately about is her re-discovering the REAL aspects of who she has been all along...those that took a backseat and were toned down during the marriage life, but that ultimately have come back to surface (hence why the tour and interviews felt so 'Blond Ambition' all over again).

  12. Ivy, Gwyneth did become best friends with Beyonce. She actually said she based her Country Strong performance around watching Beyonce and said that Bey was the most talented woman in the world :mellow:/> She also talked about Beyonce and Jay Z constantly in magazine interviews for about 2 years and raved about what a great friend Beyonce was. I have not heard her mention her lately. I wonder if they have also fallen out

Sounds like the same crap she pulled with Madonna and Guy.

She sounds like a user...someone who latches onto a big name to stay relevant and seem important just because she's "friends" with a big mega-star...and then she moves onto the next...

  13. Why were these two ever friends? From the outside...it just doesn't make sense to me...they couldn't be any more different.

Sometimes I wonder... when I look at the Madonna of the early 80s into the mid-90s, I just don't see her being friends with a Gwyneth Paltrow-type...in fact, in those days, I see her as the target of some smart, bitchy comment from Madonna.

But then there's the Madonna after having a kid, being with and marrying Guy, becoming the mild-mannered British housewife, etc...and it's literally like seeing a whole other person. "Gwynny"...really, WTF?

I am NOT saying people can't grow and change... just that the two versions of Madonna are so different, that now - since the divorce and friendship failings...and the return of rebellious, bitchy, IDGAF Madonna - I look back and go...was it really just natural growth/change, or more so trying to fit the mold and play the role of the 'good girl', the 'wife'? MDNA starts to make a hell of a lot more sense...

  14. I looked up this original track list and is the only way I can enjoy the album from start to finish. (Minus B-day song, plus Best Friend at the end) it has an organic flow that's lacking in the released version. It separates the album into "chapters" that to me tell a cohesive story:

    From GGW to IDGA

The hurt, angry and aggressive section

I want to kill you (GB) and I still love you (IA) but fuck you I don't care (IDGA)

That is basically the transgression section from the tour

    From TUTR to Superstar

The peppy section, although its only happy on the surface. TUTR is about scaping a shitty situation(see previous 5 dongs), GMAYL is about calling out the lesser "divas" and Superstar to me is not meant to be taken literally, it's more like how crazy stupid we can get when we fall in love, and where it may lead you.

    From IAS to BF

After putting up a brave front in the 1st "chapter" in this one M shows how sad she really is about the whole divorce.

    Masterpiece, FF and LS

These songs show how sad she may be, but also how hopefull. She doesn't "renounce hope" she feels "free to go" and calls out a greedy cunt.

But then again she feels violated (BK) regretful (IFU) and mournful (BF)

I may like some songs more that the others, but as a whole they all play off of each other really well. I feel like I'm taking a peek into the queens' diary.

That's my interpretation of the album as a whole.

    Would love to hear others.

YES! So well put. In a lot of ways, I think that was the original idea they had going before the last minute track-list change.

  15. I dont imagine Madonna cutting parts of the show for DVD release, maybe for TV though :\

That's what I'm thinking. Madonna does NOT seem like the type that would cut whole sections of the show out, or do edits like that unless they had to prepare a broadcast tv version (considering this show has some pretty violent, controversial stuff, esp. with the gun issue in the US right now).

But the woman hates censorship. Having the Blu-ray/DVD version be an edit does not sound like her at all.

Madonna wanted to give a "film" effect to the show, lasting 100 minutes, THAT'S WHY THE SPEECH WAS CUT, to invite the public to focus only on the show.

That makes no sense, as the whole political aspect was a huge point of the whole show...especially if she has the upcoming 'revolution' she wants to launch.

For the record, I don't think any editing out of sections of the show in order to make a "cinematic" effect is even necessary. The show is already a very cinematic, structured 'musical theater' like show. It's not necessary...except for her little speeches...and even then, those are an integral aspect of this very show and what it stood for, and certainly tying into her upcoming "revolution".

Confessions is very cinematic and stylized, and no parts were cut (except those for the tv broadcast, obviously)...it's all in the stylized editing. So, these rumors don't really make sense.

  16. In this particular order:

4 Minutes to cater to the youngins & internet demographic.

Beat Goes On to reel in the die-hards & black folk (a 106&Park video premiere with Kanye & Pharrell would've worked wonders).

Across the Sky to seal the deal. I mean, It just screamed 'single.'

Give It 2 Me to kick off the S&S tour.

Miles Away to promote buzz for the S&S tour DVD.

    THIS!!!!

  17. Oh c'mon. I highly doubt that.

We see that she has been actively involved in the editing process. The team is working on it.

We just have to have patience. The tour only ended a few months ago. And since this most likely not an active music year for her, they are going to release it at the right time...most likely when some of these other 'revolution' projects/secret project come out. It took other tour films a while too.

I think it's way to early too declare the sky is falling.
