  1. On top of that she could have put real fire on the stage and smoke too (like she did at the GS with fire and at the RIT with smoke).

Imagine Gang Bang with pyro fire and I'm Addicted with a smoked floor!

Yeah...I was thinking of that too. Real fire and fog/smoke. I could definitely see IA being really foggy and ethereal.

I also could imagine at the end of IDGA, when she raises on the pillar in front of the cross, seeing fire go off around her...like she's descending to hell.

  2. My favorite technical aspect of the show was the lighting. Her best yet.

    The lighting was AMAZING!!!

Interesting how she decided to go with such a big lighting package for this show...when a few previous tours had very minimal lighting with more emphasis on video. Re-invention and Confessions are very dark (aesthetic wise), with minimal lighting...I wonder if that was just a creative decision, or a budget thing.

  3. Well have you seen the 3 concerts she filmed in Japan? The audiences are so boring, especially compared to Europe and South America. I'm pretty sure THAT'S why she doesn't go there. Not sure about Australia as well, we're not as bad but probably still not as wild/exciting as SA and Europe.

It's a cultural thing. It's not that the Japanese audiences don't love her, they just respond to concerts/live shows differently. (You should see how they all sit down in such an orderly fashion to watch a parade at Tokyo Disneyland. LOL!!!). Certain parts of Europe seem kind of dead as audiences too.

But I totally get that she is the kind of artist that feeds off her audience...she needs it...and who wouldn't. I just think it'd be cool for more audiences around the world to see her...which add to the tour stats, and gross. That's all.

  4. I can't see that era without BS and HN as singles...even though, yes, a few other songs would have probably done really well chart wise.

BS is pure magic...but it was pretty unconventional. Though as much as M wants that commercial success...at that time, I think she relished going to the left while everyone else was going to the right.

But I think one of those remixes as the 'main mix' for the single could have propelled it higher.

And she was going to release HN regardless. I think she knew it wasn't number 1 hit single material, but that didn't matter...and that wasn't the point. It's so much an integral part of her overall manifesto as an artist, and in response to the hell she had been through the years prior...it was about making the statement regardless of commercial success. And I think we're all glad she did.

  5. And does anybody know why there were no screens at the Miami show?

You mean the big vertical side screens? Those were only in stadium shows when they have to build the big proscenium. In arena shows, like Miami, they would normally just use the smaller horizontal screens placed higher up to the sides...but not sure if they even put those up for Miami.

You can definitely tell when the stadium shows vs. arena shots are used if you see those side screens, the audience looks like a bigger sea of black, and the top row of horizontal lights going across the proscenium are there, as that was the stadium setup.

  6. Bedtime Stories...I just can't...I don't know where to begin with this album. One of my all time favorites.

It just takes me to another place and time. Makes me want to be in love, with someone's arms wrapped around me.

I think it's one of her most confessional records...and sadly overlooked.

It gave us Secret. Inside of Me. Love Tried To Welcome Me (YES!!!). Sanctuary. Take A Bow.

It gave us Bedtime Story (and all those INCREDIBLE remixes - that Junior Vasquez wet dream mix that she performed at the Brits - PERFECTION).

And it gave us Human Nature - her manifesto that STILL rings true today. The ultimate 'Fuck You' song.

  7. I don't get this idea that it would be good to work with a certain producer a couple of years ago, but now she can't work with them. To me, good music is timeless music. It doesn't become bad because time goes by. A good producer is a good producer. People are too worried about her working producers who are behind the times or trendy appealing to the young blah blah blah. She should work with who she has chemistry with and who she is really excited to work with not all these outside perceptions. She's always been the type of person who works with who she wants no matter what people think. Are there really any underground producers anymore? Because as soon as we hear the person's name, everyone googles them and finds out what kind of music they do. So their sound isn't secret anymore.

I'm open to her doing a lot of different things, but I wouldn't want her to go more electronic and club oriented. That really hard repetitive dj music bores me. She should either stay in the pop/dance area or incorporate some other genres but not go into harder EDM.

    THIS!!!

I don't really care, as long as the music is good, strong, and unique. And she puts her all into it.

Guess I'm the lone ranger over here, but I LOVE Daft Punk's new album. I don't give a shit if she already did a piece of that sound, it's not really like RAM anyway. I would love something like RAM that brings in old school funk, some soul, and real instruments on top of dance-oriented sounds. And this idea that if she works with a certain producer that they're just gonna give her the sound they did on their last record(s) is kind of a limiting way of looking at things. If headstrong Madonna goes into the studio like she has in the past, I have no doubt she can work out a sound from any producer that even goes beyond what they 'normally' do. She has that ability to push all writers out of their comfort zone. I think we're all boxing them in. Especially DP. I have a feeling if they worked with M, they'd go more left field anyway.

More than anything, I personally would like to see her work with some writers that aren't all about a certain 'sound' or genre, but that are focused more on iconic, timeless melodies and compositions. Really well rounded song writers.

  8. Gaga was on HBO, and that was promoted pretty heavily in the US. I can't think of any other concerts they have aired after that. If they did, it was most likely a heritage act band.

Oh, that's right, they did do Gaga. I guess they do one every now and then. But it's not like it was back in the day. Their concert events were huge deals, and quite often.

I suppose online streaming venues, Vevo, youtube, and other cable outlets that may be more cost effective have won out.

  9. They surely had their biggest documentary audience EVER by showing that Beyonce documentary... I know, not the same as a concert. Are they that strict? I bet this could've done well, and it's more a movie than it is a concert anyway.

I guess the Beyonce thing was kind of an exception.

But as for full length concert specials/films... that used to be a standard on HBO (remember how big those events were)...I haven't seen them do those in years. And I miss them. (And partly because I actually get HBO vs. these other premium channels).
