  1. He has an odd, manic depressive 'the world hates me and I hate it back' thing going on that is just... depressing.

I don't buy him blaming that his career went to shit because he was an 'out' actor. I've read so many industry folks say his career went to shit not because he was gay, but because he had a proverbial stick up his ass, and was horrible to work with. It's obvious even in his writing. Blaming it on being gay is a fucking cop out, and only further protects that institutional little closet Hollywood loves so much.

You don't see Ian McKellan being a bitch, and the industry and public love him.

Here's a thought dude...you were an average actor at best.

  2. awe, thanks guys for the acknowledgement! I was just being honest and not bull shitting while trying to keep my friend's identity under wraps. I haven't spoken to that person much recently or bothered to inquire what to expect with new projects. If I ever hear something new or get a demo, I'll post it on this forum. ;)

    na, thank you!!!

  3. She needs to stop working with Steven Klein and find some new photographers to work with

    YES!

I enjoy Steven's work (esp. "The Beast Within"/"Xtatic-Process") ... but it is time for new photographers.

I think her recent work with Mert & Marcus is phenomenal. (The Interview Mag shoot and GGW video!)

  4. Not a fan of the Blond Ambition ponytail. Prefer the Shirley Temple curls.

I love the band on Who's That Girl tour (more so than BA).

I wish she would hire more musicians to give her concert a fuller live sound, ala Girlie Show. It's gotten better the last couple tours though.

    I love Re-Invention Tour.

I enjoy ROL (the album), but I don't seem to have the connection to it most other fans have. A turning point, and amazing accomplishment creatively..but I rate other albums higher.

Never really got the obsession over Love Spent either.

I love Pray For Spanish Eyes, Take A Bow, Think of Me, Love Don't Live Here Anymore, Love Makes The World Go Round, B-day song, Into the Hollywood Groove

I loved The Immaculate Collection and the 'Q-sound' mixing...and the fact that they are different mixes.

I don't think she's a bad actress. Far worse in Hollywood are getting work. I think it just became a thing everyone latched onto because it's another part of that 'it's cool to hate on Madonna' thing. She's solid, and just needs the right role.

I want to see her do another big film musical.

I love, love, love Breathless Mahoney Madonna, and Dick Tracy.

Was a never a big fan of her late 90s to early 00s looks.

Sad that her marriage ended...but so happy that 'good girl Guy Richie' era is over.

I never really had an issue with the vocals on the last couple tour films. S&S sounds fine to me.

....and I'm a fan of a few rival pop divas too. Sacrilege, I know...;)

  5. I love the live albums (even if they aren't the whole show). I mean, why not? It's something more...and not everyone is going to go find a download link on a madonna site to get the audio (and that's even if the audio was even ripped in the highest quality possible).

I mean, if you're going to continue to put out standard DVDs (which format and quality wise isn't really the standard anymore), why not package a live cd with it?

  6. My god...those youtube comments kill me. haha. People always complaining about 'miming' 'playback'...it's like, please, your favs probably do the same. And it's always on the big production numbers...the whole point of those is about the spectacle and choreography.

All the biggest pop artists have been doing this since the 80s (or earlier). Nothing new. You'd think people would get that by now.

Oh, and they're already complaining about the sound mix and that the color saturation is too high in the MDNA Tour previews.

  7. Where do u live, Disney Land? :manson:

    :ass: :ass: :ass:

Um, like you said, it's called having a discussion - it helps stop uninformed opinions getting taken as cold hard fact.

I'm not taking it as cold hard fact. At least I learned a bit more about who was involved and such. Like everything in 'madonnafanland' I take it with a grain of salt.

  8. I'm wondering if Madonna's time as a legit film director has given her a new perspective on filming and editing these concert films. Sure, she's done it so many times, but the quality of this, and the style, looks unprecedented...while previous tour films (while great, and all different) seemed to be more in the hands of who she hired.

And as for the Re-Invention discussion, thanks for the info Msig!!! I appreciate it. Regardless of whether it's rumor or educated guesses, it at least gives some of us who didn't know what was going on at the time a bit more of a frame work to understand things. (And I don't think it was fair for people to be ganging up on you. No one knows the exact reason anyway).

  9. There's an odd amount of side shots and back shots, and weird low side angles, at times when the shot should have been a simple straightforward shot of the stage head-on to capture the choreography during pivotal moments, or the stage as a whole. Every time I watch that footage I go "wait, why did it go to that angle....?"

  10. The DVD footage wasn't directed by production manager Chris Lamb, but by his son, Christian Lamb, who was a camera technician on DWT and live video director on RIT, CT and S&S.

The Hamish Hamilton lawsuit regarded not the planned DVD, but a live tv broadcast, which never materialized due to contractual disagreements between M and CBS. Hamish filed the lawsuit because he wasn't paid for any of the pre-production work he had done before the live broadcast was scrapped.

When plans to have the final Lisbon show broadcast live fell through, Madonna commissioned Christian Lamb to direct the concert DVD.

Honestly, I thought this was common knowledge among M fans by now..

I wasn't that involved in the online community back then, and wasn't really keeping up on things back then...

Was IGTTYAS planned all along too? Given info above, seems it was.

And so she didn't like any of the footage filmed? That one night leaked from Lisbon wasn't all that bad. If they filmed both nights, and had other footage from in-house cameras...Wow. I've underestimated her perfectionism.

And yet, she was supposedly so hands off with S&S film...

  11. They started filming the docu in the early stages of the tour with M and Stuart working on the songs, as shown in the film, so it's pretty evident that it was planned all along.

I've always thought that...but then again, it seems she always has some sort of docu crew filming her...even if we only get a short DVD bonus feature 'behind the scenes' docu. So, that's why I'm still wondering. Was the decision to go full documentary an early one, planned all along...or a slightly later one...or one arising from her dislike (or whatever other reasons) of the filmed show?

If it was planned all along, we were possibly getting both, as it seemed the plans were for the whole show to get some sort of release (with the filmed work from Hamilton).

  12. I wouldn't be surprised if she was taking on a larger role and Guy was scaling his back. To say nothing of his capabilities as a manager, he has fingers in a lot of other pies, mostly in LA and has a wife and a young son there, M must take up an awful lot of his time, he has to travel with her everywhere she goes on business.

Just curious..what are the other 'pies' Guy O has his fingers in?

  13. So contract issues...liking the footage, but a broken business arrangement...not liking the footage... what is it?

Also, was IGTTYAS planned all along...or did she decide to do that after scrapping the tour film? Because it seemed like all things were planned for the actual show to be released in full all along until the above issues came up. Were we possibly getting both a tour film and a docu, or did the latter come up as an option after?

  14. Does anyone know exactly why the RIT from Lisbon was not released?

I've heard that it was because she didn't like any of the camera angles (and I will admit, it was very poorly shot). And it wasn't shot over two nights? Just one? (it seems like this issue was what moved her to the style she does now - the more 'movie/film' like edit shot over multiple nights ala TOD).

  15. Hold up. If they are using more than one location for the DVD. Doesn't that mean the sound will be messed up? They'll be showing France as they air the Miami sound. Unless they are gonna use many different versions of sound from many shows recorded via the soundboard to cover up any flaws.

I found the sound on that DVD clip to be horrid! It is so flat.

They'll take the best sound from the soundboards of whatever show(s) they want, probably mix in some of the studio versions for cleaning up certain parts, and then the sound will be mixed professionally to be seamless.

  16. But in my interpretation she's not descending to hell.

She expresses all her struggles with the Catholic Church, her personal demons and her search for God on the first section. At the end of it she finally finds what she was looking for (the Light).

That's why the lights change from red to white (enlightening) at the very end. And that's why she breaks the cross (religion) with her name on it (ego).

The journey of a soul from darkness to Light.

    Interesting interpretation. I like that.

I feel the whole show is the journey, not just the first act. Yes, "Transgression" is about her struggle with religion (Catholicism), her inner personal demons, her bad girl/rebellious/liberated from the dogma and structure of organized religion essence, what does "God" mean to her ... but when you get to that final ascension on the pillar with the cross, it's as if she's asking for redemption, as she raises her hand to the sky (the light), the cross illuminated...but ultimately is rejected, as the cross explodes and the church crumbles. I don't really sense any redemption in that moment.

She then has to continue her journey (the rest of the show), peeling back the layers of her identity, exploring other emotions/feelings - joy, humor, fun, her revolutionary essence, vanity, fashion, sex, sexuality, defiance, aging, love...and ultimately culminating in her realization that "she's a sinner" (whether you think she's being literal, or ironic) essentially accepting herself for what she is - all those things we explored in the show - and culminating in the much broader 'spiritual' moment of "Like A Prayer" that unites all as one consciousness (she has now truly found her "light").

    Then, we 'celebrate' as one.

So overall, to me, the redemption doesn't come until that final moment from "I'm A Sinner" into "Like A Prayer", as she looks to the sky and sings "And it feels like...home".
