  1. Just re-watched Who's That Girl. It was actually pretty damn good for a silly, screwball 80s film. I was actually cracking up. Classic 80s.

I don't think the film deserves the bad rap it gets at all.

    "But no tricks."

    "No tricks."

    "You promise?"

    "I promise! I promise...no tricks."

    "Hey Louden...guess what?"

    "What?"

    "TRICKS!!!!!!"

  2. I watched Dick Tracy again the other night and I was very impressed, it's a great movie. Madonna is sexy and fantastic. It won 3 oscars I didn't even know!

    I second that.

Madonna as Breathless is simply perfection.

Also, A League Of Their Own and Evita ... and Desperately Seeking Susan.

Though I do love her little role in Girl 6.

  3. :queenbitch:

Well, was it not? From the articles I read about the stadium proscenium, it sounded like it was custom made for her show, at least the inflatable roof aspect (considering what happened with S&S). Or perhaps it was just the model that this particular company had, and M got to have it first.

  4. Why are we even comparing album sales anymore? The industry can't even barely sell them (and don't bring up Adele...she's the exception, at the moment. Those sales figures aren't going to last either). The era of mega-sales is over. Hell, the era of moderate sales is over.

Are we expecting a mainstream female pop artist in her 50s to sell multi-millions like it was years ago...?

  5. I tend to lean toward thinking it has less to do with her "leaving" the U.K. and more to do with her image. America is known to be the more conservative country, but I can't help but think England is more conservative. The press used to be TERRIBLE to her in the early '90s. But when her image softened up, they seemed to warm up to her, and that, of course, coincided with her move to London, etc. Since her split with Guy, she's gotten much more in-your-face and sexual, similar to the '90s - and I just think the U.K. press love to pounce on that. Easy target. They're lazy. That's my take.

    I see that too.

It seems to be that both the US and UK media were actually pleasantly surprised that she started to play the role of the 'good wife' in the late 90s/early 00s, and somewhat began to finally kiss her ass and almost 'accept' her. Now that that's all over (as perfectly said in the bridge of "I Don't Give A"), she's kind of re-embraced her true identity in a way, that coupled with the ageism thrown at her 24/7 now, is actually bringing back the views on her circa the late 80s/early 90s because the ballsy IDGAFuck bitch is back (and thank god!!!). And they really can't understand it coming from a woman in her 50s now.

You either "get" Madonna...or you don't. There's no in between with this woman. And sadly, most of the press and the public don't. They're programmed to eat up a Taylor Swift, not someone that actually makes them think and challenges every thing they think is socially acceptable.

She plays by her own rules. 30+ years in, they still can't understand or accept that.

  6. I think in some way she gets off on meeting people who've trashed her and then bringing them round to her way. It speaks of a lot of self confidence. People that work with her always have a new found respect.

    Yep...very true.

M is brilliantly smart. To last 30+ years in that business mean she knows what she's doing and how to read people. I think she knows that a lot of the people that claim to hate her are really the ones that are obsessed with wanting to meet her, interview her, and especially work with her. And we all know that when they do, they totally change their tone and realize that she is the real fucking deal.

I like a lot of what's been said here, that she really destroys gaga even further by working with people she's known to work with, and then does it better. It's such a brilliant slap in the face.

  7. I wonder if she was the one that picked TR...or was it the magazine (since someone said he's a regular photog for them). Maybe she didn't have a choice (though I doubt Madonna of all people wouldn't have a choice...)

And wasn't he the one that spray painted "FUCK" on the MDNA tour posters....?

    Weird.

  8. Ah right, it's the dress from the Instagram pic. So is this "Vice" thing a TV show which she took part in?

The only "Vice" I know is a tv show produced by Bill Maher. It comes on after his show "Real Time" on HBO. It's a half hour show with two news reports that are done documentary style. It's an AMAZING show that touches on political and social issues, particularly abroad, that the US corporate media is not reporting on.

It's done for it's current season, and will be back next year, I believe.

Don't know if that's the "Vice" Madonna is referring to...but could be...

  9. Of course I'm a fan. I spent two hours creating my display picture. Who spends two hours editing their picture, trying to achieve the same look as the MDNA cover? I'm sure it would only have to be a Madonna fan. :sassy::madonna2:

You spent two hours on that.......... :semifunny:

  10. Oh lord we will end up with Janets power point in 2 years.

Or you mean J.LO's powerpoint...or Mariah's powerpoint...or Bieber's powerpoint. LOL!!! They all use cheap video except for Madonna (and maybe Britney).

I wouldn't worry. The video is shot by independent directors and companies (like Moment Factory and Veneno). I don't think M's visual quality will change. ;)

As for her stages (and the stages of every other huge act), who knows. The industry lost their 'go to' guy. I'm sure Mark Fisher had a team under him that will carry on his style/work.

  11. Btw the audio has too much fake crownd noise i think

Nearly every filmed pop/rock concert I've seen has way too much "fake audience" effect added. Not unique to Madonna, that's for sure.

The MDNA EPIX website version that everyone hates has the audience noise quite lower than the tv broadcast.

Question is, what will the BluRay/DVD sound like?

  12. Madonna having those long side screens as a part of the stage (that she decided not to even use properly) set so far forward served to more or less HIDE the back screens (and the core visuals of the show) from ppl in about the first third of side seating in stadiums, ironically the most expensive seats. This was a common complaint at the stadium shows and imo a design fault.

Hmmm, ok. I am wondering if that was really his doing, though. It may have been, but If I remember right, the custom proscenium that was built for the stadium-only shows may have been built and designed by a different company. Again, I'm not sure, but when I was looking at the articles/videos of the design/construction of the MDNA stage, it sounded like it was a different company that designed and built the proscenium. The stage that Mark Fisher designed is essentially built inside that.

Again, he may have designed it, but I'd swear it was some other company that did...

As for that issue, I noticed that seems to happen with a lot of stadium setups though. I've seen side views from other stadium concerts, and usually the back part of the stage (where the screens often are), tend to usually get obscured anyway. Not excusing the MDNA tour issue, just that it seems to be an issue that happens in many typical stadium setups.

  13. Sad news but his stadium set-up for Madonna was below par. Also it was what was ON the (rather rudimentary) stage that mattered and made it great. The lighting design, the screens etc designed by others.

The fact his last work was that Gaga monstrosity is probably the saddest thing of all.

What was wrong with the stadium set-up?

  14. So sad. He designed incredible stages. Having studied a little stage design, I referenced his work a lot. Regardless of the stage, even with Madonna's being fairly minimalistic and focused on video screens...it's not an easy job to lay it all out and plan how it will work physically and visually.

Amazing artist/designer. Saw quite a few tours with his stage designs too. All amazing.

    RIP.

  15. I can understand why she doesn't change so much, though, because her shows are so structured (like musical theater), esp. with all the visual and technical aspects. You can't just throw anything in.

It was fun to see the little additions in MDNA, though.

With the early tours, she talked a lot more to the audience, as well as the banter between her, Niki and Donna... so that's often what would change and keep things fresh.

  16. What's wrong with the audio I posted you bitches?

Where is it ? ... I must have missed it.

I did download that one from MadonnaChile... but the audience sounds so loud on that one, while the band and vocals sit too far back. And i don't hear much difference compared to the web rip. In fact, I like the web rip much better than that cause you can hear her vocals and the band.

Maybe I just need to hear a super HQ rip of the broadcast tv version to notice the differences you guys are talking about...

  17. Both. I previously downloaded that 5gb mov file that was ripped from the net stream. That's where I got those godawful screencaps. The picture is dark and grainy, the contrast turned right up etc. This new torrent from the actual tv broadcast fixes most of that. The sound is ENTIRELY different. Vocals deeper in the mix instead of floating on top, backing track popping out, audience singing mixed better, Nikki's LAP solo sounds better integrated and in this one M says during LAP "alright put your hands togetheeeeeeeer" - sounds fine. In the old one its put your hands togeth..*cut*. You'd need to hear it.

Is there a way someone can rip this audio mix from the tv broadcast?

Most of us who have just the audio have, what I think, is the audio rip from the online streaming...no?
