  1. I agree that the market is there for box sets, remasters, etc. There are a small handful of artists that I've seen do it, and the product is nice.

Some of the rock groups do it, but mainly release their box sets (with remasters, live albums, demos, unreleased, music videos, documentary, etc.) as exclusive digital/itunes releases, with only a smaller production of actual physical collector box sets released.

Some of them are very nice. The Pink Floyd sets are really nice.

There's no doubt that Madonna and her team know artists are doing this, and doing it well. I personally think M doesn't think she's at that stage yet. She's not a nostalgic person, as we know...and I just think new work is her focus.

I do think she'll do them, but she probably wants to be able to spend the time really doing it right, and release them when new work is not as frequent.

That being said, Like a Prayer at least does deserve a basic remaster (by the best studio engineer). If they did the first few albums, why they stopped at LAP is almost like deliberate torture. Why? It was the last one that needed it.

And one of these days, the full Blond Ambition Tour. The fact that the most iconic pop tour of all time is not fully released...esp. the Alek K 'film' version...is kind of fucking crazy.

That would be one box set collection that deserves to show up sooner rather than later. A LAP remaster with extras, demos, documentary featurettes...paired with the full HD remastered Blond Ambition Tour (film version), and the live album of that show.

What a package that would be...

  2. Wait a minute...we're getting a 2-DISC LIVE CD ALBUM???????!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF???????????

    Not necessarily

    Could come sooner

Regardless of the fact that she's releasing the full show on cd

If it's only coming out a month later than originally announced, I don't see why that would push anything back for next year at all.

  3. The thing about the old rockers is that they do more shows, and often break up their tours into legs that go on for multiple years (sometimes). And they can do that because their show is so different than M's. Not saying playing instruments is not hard work, don't get me wrong...but it's just an entirely different discipline to execute night after night compared to a large-scale song and dance show more akin to musical theater (which probably also costs a hell of a lot more to take around the world). It's almost a totally unfair comparison.

Considering that the rockers are mostly 'legend' acts performing mostly greatest hits, and that they reach these numbers by going out for a much longer time on the road...it really shows how Madonna can still hold her place in their 'club' of ultimate touring acts while not relying on greatest hits, creating an entirely new show each time from the ground up, executing a show that is purely physical on every level, doing pop/dance music (a genre that usually is catered to only the youth). Who else as a solo artist, as a woman, is doing that...? Even if they rank higher than her on some of the overall charts, I think her accomplishments actually mean more...

  4. You know, after I watched this film, I didn't get why people thought it was so bad. At least in terms of acting performances, I thought it was solid. The cinematography was nice. And the music.

I don't think the faults lie with Madonna, or the actors. I think it lies with Guy. I just don't see what makes him that good of a director...at all.

And the script itself was kind of weird. It's hard to feel any sort of empathy for the two main characters (at least 'till the very end)...which, to me, is maybe why no one takes to this film. It was hard to connect to them in any way, in terms of how the characters were written. But considering that, I think the actors, including M, did just fine.

  5. Just re-watched Who's That Girl. It was actually pretty damn good for a silly, screwball 80s film. I was actually cracking up. Classic 80s.

I don't think the film deserves the bad rap it gets at all.

    "But no tricks."

    "No tricks."

    "You promise?"

    "I promise! I promise...no tricks."

    "Hey Louden...guess what?"

    "What?"

    "TRICKS!!!!!!"

  6. I watched Dick Tracy again the other night and I was very impressed, it's a great movie. Madonna is sexy and fantastic. It won 3 oscars I didn't even know!

    I second that.

Madonna as Breathless is simply perfection.

Also, A League Of Their Own and Evita ... and Desperately Seeking Susan.

Though I do love her little role in Girl 6.

  7. :queenbitch:

Well, was it not? From the articles I read about the stadium proscenium, it sounded like it was custom made for her show, at least the inflatable roof aspect (considering what happened with S&S). Or perhaps it was just the model that this particular company had, and M got to have it first.

  8. Why are we even comparing album sales anymore? The industry can't even barely sell them (and don't bring up Adele...she's the exception, at the moment. Those sales figures aren't going to last either). The era of mega-sales is over. Hell, the era of moderate sales is over.

Are we expecting a mainstream female pop artist in her 50s to sell multi-millions like it was years ago...?

  9. I tend to lean toward thinking it has less to do with her "leaving" the U.K. and more to do with her image. America is known to be the more conservative country, but I can't help but think England is more conservative. The press used to be TERRIBLE to her in the early '90s. But when her image softened up, they seemed to warm up to her, and that, of course, coincided with her move to London, etc. Since her split with Guy, she's gotten much more in-your-face and sexual, similar to the '90s - and I just think the U.K. press love to pounce on that. Easy target. They're lazy. That's my take.

    I see that too.

It seems to be that both the US and UK media were actually pleasantly surprised that she started to play the role of the 'good wife' in the late 90s/early 00s, and somewhat began to finally kiss her ass and almost 'accept' her. Now that that's all over (as perfectly said in the bridge of "I Don't Give A"), she's kind of re-embraced her true identity in a way, that coupled with the ageism thrown at her 24/7 now, is actually bringing back the views on her circa the late 80s/early 90s because the ballsy IDGAFuck bitch is back (and thank god!!!). And they really can't understand it coming from a woman in her 50s now.

You either "get" Madonna...or you don't. There's no in between with this woman. And sadly, most of the press and the public don't. They're programmed to eat up a Taylor Swift, not someone that actually makes them think and challenges every thing they think is socially acceptable.

She plays by her own rules. 30+ years in, they still can't understand or accept that.

  10. I think in some way she gets off on meeting people who've trashed her and then bringing them round to her way. It speaks of a lot of self confidence. People that work with her always have a new found respect.

    Yep...very true.

M is brilliantly smart. To last 30+ years in that business mean she knows what she's doing and how to read people. I think she knows that a lot of the people that claim to hate her are really the ones that are obsessed with wanting to meet her, interview her, and especially work with her. And we all know that when they do, they totally change their tone and realize that she is the real fucking deal.

I like a lot of what's been said here, that she really destroys gaga even further by working with people she's known to work with, and then does it better. It's such a brilliant slap in the face.

  11. I wonder if she was the one that picked TR...or was it the magazine (since someone said he's a regular photog for them). Maybe she didn't have a choice (though I doubt Madonna of all people wouldn't have a choice...)

And wasn't he the one that spray painted "FUCK" on the MDNA tour posters....?

    Weird.

  12. Ah right, it's the dress from the Instagram pic. So is this "Vice" thing a TV show which she took part in?

The only "Vice" I know is a tv show produced by Bill Maher. It comes on after his show "Real Time" on HBO. It's a half hour show with two news reports that are done documentary style. It's an AMAZING show that touches on political and social issues, particularly abroad, that the US corporate media is not reporting on.

It's done for it's current season, and will be back next year, I believe.

Don't know if that's the "Vice" Madonna is referring to...but could be...

  13. Of course I'm a fan. I spent two hours creating my display picture. Who spends two hours editing their picture, trying to achieve the same look as the MDNA cover? I'm sure it would only have to be a Madonna fan. :sassy::madonna2:

You spent two hours on that.......... :semifunny:

  14. Oh lord we will end up with Janets power point in 2 years.

Or you mean J.LO's powerpoint...or Mariah's powerpoint...or Bieber's powerpoint. LOL!!! They all use cheap video except for Madonna (and maybe Britney).

I wouldn't worry. The video is shot by independent directors and companies (like Moment Factory and Veneno). I don't think M's visual quality will change. ;)

As for her stages (and the stages of every other huge act), who knows. The industry lost their 'go to' guy. I'm sure Mark Fisher had a team under him that will carry on his style/work.
