    Largest earthquake in decades hits Southern California, measuring 6.4 magnitude

    A 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck Southern California on Thursday, the largest temblor to hit the region in decades.

    The 10:33 a.m. quake was centered in the Searles Valley, a remote area of Kern County about 100 miles from Los Angeles.

    The quake was the largest in Southern California since the 1994 6.6 Northridge quake, which killed dozens and caused billions of dollars in damage. But the Northridge quake hit in the center of a populated area, while Thursday’s quake was located far from the metropolitan Los Angeles area.

    It was also a relatively deep quake, occurring more than five miles underground.

    "I was in my kitchen trying to get some coffee and all the windows started rattling," said Emma Gallegos, a 34-year-old journalist in southwest Bakersfield. "It was just a little bit at first — I thought something was going by, and then I realized all the windows were rattling. It was kind of a long gentle roll and I felt two distinct waves."

    Gallegos said that the dried chiles hanging from a hook on her kitchen wall were all shaking. "It was surreal."

    Other people nearer to the epicenter were shocked by the shaking.

    “I was laying down in my bed and I had my feet on the wall and I felt like both of the sides of the house were moving and shaking so I ran, and grabbed my brother and kid and came outside,” said Edith Mata, 22, a student at Bakersfield College. Her son is 3 years old and her brother is 17.

    “The neighbors across the street were also outside with their whole family of five people. My kid had no idea what was going on.” Mata said that it felt very “creepy” and that she had never experienced anything like it before.

    It was unclear whether the temblor caused damage or injuries. Los Angeles officials said they have gotten no reports of major damage.

    In the Los Angeles area, the quake was slow and steady, lasting about 30 seconds.

    The earthquake was centered 10 miles northeast of Ridgecrest, Calif., a city of about 29,000 in Kern County mostly known as a small town for skiers and snowboarders headed from Los Angeles to Mammoth.

    The earthquake was centered about 90 miles northeast of Bakersfield and 125 miles north of Los Angeles.The earthquake was felt widely throughout the Los Angeles area, said Caltech seismologist Egill Hauksson.

    It’s unlikely there was significant damage in a major urban area given that the earthquake was centered in such a remotely populated area.The area that ruptured occurred in an area of faults slightly east of the Sierra Nevada. The Little Lake fault is one of them, and last went through a magnitude 6 earthquake in 1984, Hauksson said.

    Local emergency agencies have been flooded with calls, and officials urged that people only use 911 for emergencies.

    “We are very much aware of the significant earthquake that just occurred in Southern California. Please DO NOT call 9-1-1 unless there are injuries or other dangerous conditions. Don't call for questions please,” the LAPD said in a statement.

    Nobody is forcing anyone to watch a music video clip. There is a warning at the beginning of God Control, if people choose to carry on and watch, it is on them, not on Madonna. Ms Gonzales dismissed Madonna's video without knowing the facts beforehand, she judged without knowing. She is the one who brought this upon herself. That being said I do not agree with poor taste pic connecting her to NRA being sent, but people do whatever they want.

    Have a long hard look at yourselves in the mirror, before throwing your trolling stinky insecurities on Madonna.

    She gave a wonderful Pride performance, something that your mediocre eyes and ears will never be able to appreciate. Go stan for somebody else since you clearly cannot and won't appreciate Madonna ever, plenty of mediocre nobodies out there to cater for your bland tasteless senses.

    After reading lot of comments here while out, finally I am able to watch it properly, at home, hi fi sound connected blasting out, all of the video clips I can find on YouTube: SHE WAS FAB!!!

    Fuck I wish I had been there, what a great show she put together, I am very happy! It has wet even more my appetite to what is in store on the tour!! January and Feb 2020 cannot come soon enough.

    Dunno what some of the negative comments posted here are about: did some of you watch the same clips I am watching? Any of you caught the emmagonzales bug by any chance, judging without knowing? Madonna put an incredible show only the legend she is can do! I know at the moment the quality is not super duper, but from what I am seeing and hearing I do not get the absurd criticism that is going on here - the set list was perfection, hands down this was a treat for those lucky to be there

Expecting everyone to have the same reaction as them to the issue and criticising allies and taking the focus away from the real culprits.   Emma was extremely ignorant, judgemental and did not even have her facts straight when commenting on this video.  If someone is wanting to be a spokesperson for a cause,  they should always know exactly what they commenting on and not put down people that are supporting their cause and giving their cause much needed support and attention. 

    Have thought this for years.  When wanting people to " wake up" so to speak,  and understand either discrimination, cruelty, unfairness or needing change,  it is always wrong to criticise those on your side just because they either have not gone through the same thing or are of a different gender, race, age group etc.   Have seen this done so often and it is so counter productive.  Same with women who think men should not comment on wanting women's rights because they are not women. When in fact, men who support women and equal opportunity are welcome, crucial, wanted and are appreciated so much.  Sexism, racism needs to be addressed by everyone and made a cause for everyone.  By Emma saying that only people who have been in a shooting should speak on this issue is just stupidly shutting out so many people and somewhat alienating some that the cause needs to reach.  

    I am pretty sure for example that anyone who saw the horrific scenes in the movie "  The Stoning of Soraya M"  would never get those scenes out of their minds.  Things often have to be shown to people to make them realize just how obscene and horrific they are. 

    Wonderful to see so many other groups supporting Madonna though and glad they come to her defence so strongly.

Maybe if she had watched the whole video she would have known that there is an actual warning at the beginning, rather than tweeting out of her misinformed ass. Social justice warriors?
