I think the "rap" is the integral center of the song. IMO I've always thought its both musically and lyrically akin to a nursery rhyme. A 45 year old woman revisiting her 5 year old self. Even the way the vocals at the end are tweaked to sound childlike "oh Mother, oh Father, I got to give it uuuuuuuup."
The American Life album may be as polarizing as Hard Candy amongst fans, but I've never NOT thought of it as anything but a beautiful recording of therapy sessions. Mother and Father in particular being the biggest paradox musically and lyrically.
thats a great way of looking at the song. I do understand what she was going for, it just doesn't really click with me. Surprisingly, some of my friends who aren't big madonna fans, seem to enjoy this song more than other on this album

i love the music, and her vocals, but sorry, that "rap" is just cringeworthy. Ruins a perfectly good song imo.
-
i've always liked this song, so do my friends who've heard it. i was kinda shocked when i read all the hate for it on here!
-
i think ggw was the best single out of hard candy and mdna(tho better songs on the album of course) GITM a close second, but i think ggw is more fun, and the video is perfection

or candyshop

some of my friends who are only casual madonna fans adore GMAYL. I never understood some of the hate for it, but understand why people feel its a shitty first single(and agree with).
If i'm addicted was the first single from the album, you know for sure she would def. be playing it again on future tours!
-
if it's just mostly people that go on music forums that know about this project, i don't think its really going to lose much momentum. Once it gets released I think people will know and respond to it

best song on the album imo. I wonder how many people would bitch and moan about her "promoting" drugs during a family orientated program. But yea, it would have kicked ass.

i thought she wrote lovespent as well when i first heard it! she really did make it her own. It's one of my favorite songs by her ever

this song really grew on me throughout the years. this album in general really shows how great her voice is, esp. this song.
btw, i always hear this song at the supermarket when im foodshopping, never fails!
-
my favorite album by her. It's one of those albums that you listen to by yourself. The songs really tell a story and have an emotion that can't compare to her other work, in my opinion. I became a fan in 1991 right before the album was released, love it

^ Go to hell, you wait to a bunch a people get their licks in then you come in all cocky.
yea i never argue with people here, so don't go down that route.i just called you out for the lunatic that you are

And Madonna loves you back Larkspur. Never forget it

sho bee doo is great, i dont understand the hatred for it. I've put that song on for casual fans and they liked it saying it would have been a good single
-
MDNA is fantastic and larkspur seems like a fucking mental patient, get a life
-
LAV is great. stay, pretender, sho be doo, dress you up makes the album fantastic
-
elton makes me sick, so hateful. and that pic of him with madonna, showing his moobs
-
Sandra and Courtney are good friends.
:rotfl: surprise surprise!! the two of them are prolly freaking out the secret project isn't released yet
-
It's because she'd love to have Madonna's career
Madonna has got great music and sanity/discipline
Courtney has got some good music and self-destructiveness
this is true. she never totally cleaned up. kinda sad really, as i do like some of her music
-
this woman really can't stop talking about madonna! I wonder if her and bernhard are friends
-
a leage of their own, and it has nothing to do with her being in the movie.
-
girl gone wild im kinda sick of
la isla bonita ran it's course with me, tho i don't hate those songs, just kinda sick of them for the time being.

my old job used to play 'turn up the radio' often. but they always had good music on randomly.
