  1. In all fairness, he was probably frustrated hence the harsh tone. Hopefully it can be sorted out with Live Nation.

Lots of things in life frustrate me. I've learned that it never helps to scream, yell and use profanity to solve any problem. If you have a valid complaint, try to explain yourself calmly and then people will understand and be more likely to try to correct your problem.

  2. I can't believe how people shot this guy down. This is a major problem, and the guy was robbed of his money if he couldn't hear anything. It should be refunded, no further questions asked.

I agree that if he couldn't hear, he has a right to complain and should get a refund. But I think the way people responded to him was because his use of profanity and general rude tone. If he had stated his complaint in a more respectuful way, people would have been more sympathetic.

He naturally assumed it was all Madonna's fault, when it seems like it was more of a technical problem with speakers blowing which was outside her control.

  3. I’m sorry but why on earth were people still trying to get the tube after midnight? We left when the gig finished, walked to the tube station and got on the first tube that came, and got a seat easily. Anyone who was still there at midnight must have hung around afterwards for at least 30 mins so I’ve not really got any sympathy for that aspect. The tube always closes around that time during the week, they should have checked that in the first place.

Exactly. I live in Washington, DC and our subway always closes at midnight also on weeknights.(It's open until 2 on Friday and Saturday.) When I go to a concert on weeknights, I make sure I leave right after the concert to get to the subway on time. I also always keep in mind that there's a chance the concert might go past the subway closing time and always have alternative options in mind to get home if I can't make the last train. I certainly don't expect the metro to stay open past its usual closing time just because there's a concert or blame the promoter or artist of the concert if it goes past 12. What about the people that work for the subway and want to get home to their families at a decent hour? It's all part of living in a large urban center. You have to be prepared for these things.

  4. I really don't understand the big deal about talking to the audience. At most of the concerts, I've been to most artists say only a few words to the crowd. like how are you all doing and nice to be in such and such city. I've been to several concerts where the singer did not say one word to the audience. That did not stop me from enjoying the concert if the music was good.

The artist is there to perform music, not chat or tell jokes.

In fact, the few concerts where the singer talked a lot, I found it distracting and seemed like they were using their personality to get people to not notice the fact that their singing and their music wasn't very good. Too much talking actually takes away the enjoyment of a concert as a concert for me.

  5. Equally disappointing was the lack of vintage Maddy scandal. There were no mock crucifixions, no simulated lesbian orgies, almost no gratuitous swear words. Instead, we were treated to earnest but meaningless video montages of Al Gore, Gandhi, Aung San Suu Kyi and – inevitably – Barack Obama. Woolly sentiments prevailed. No religious groups were offended in the making of this show.

Comments like this show how hyprocritical the media is and why they are determined to criticize her no matter what she does. When she did the cross thing or lesbian kisses etc., she was savaged for trying to shock people and offend religious groups. But when she avoids that, she is criticized for not doing that. She can't win with some people.

Some critics have the idea that she is soulless and unemotional so they are determined to stick to that idea even when she does show tons of feelng in Like A prayer and You Must Love Me.

To compare her to Prince and Leonard Cohen is silly. She's a different artist. The writer seems to be biased in favor of a certain kind of music.

  6. sounds amazing. madonna playing guitar is cool as fuck.

I agree. I was scared to read this thread since it was titled "Bad News". I thought it was going to say the tour was going to be cancelled or cut short.

To me, more guitar is good news!

  7. M can do whatever she likes- like with DWT- I loved it. But, casual fans probably had a lot of problems with it. But, that's their problem.

I didn't particulary care for DWT either. But this set list isn't as inaccesible as the DWT setlist. It has quite a few hits. I think the best thing for Madonna or any artist is to find a good balance between what songs fans want and their artistic vision. Just giving fans what they want, hit after hit, is uncreative. Just being artistic and not caring about your audience is snobby. I think she's found the right balance here.

  8. I think the set list is a good mix of hits and new songs. I think people know that Madonna is not the type of artist that just sings her older hits. Madonna is known for putting on a great show, but not for playing all the hits like the Stones. I think most people accept that she is not a jukebox, but puts on a very theatrical type of show with themes and amazing visuals.

But they are plenty of well known songs such as Vogue, Borderline and Like A Prayer to keep people happy. At first, I worried she wouldn't do enough of her older or known songs, but I think she has a good mix.

I think it will be fine as long as the visuals are interesting and unique.

I'm happy with the set list and I am definitely not a HC fan. I think it does a good job of promoting the new record but also giving people who don't like HC plenty of other stuff to enjoy.

  9. I don't understand why people say guitar playing is boring. I enjoy concerts why people play instruments throughout the whole concert and don't dance at all. It's great as long as the songs are good.

To me a whole concert of nothing but dance music and choreography is boring. I like it that she combines different kinds of musical expression.

It's too bad some Madonna fans can't enjoy anything but dancing like a maniac. Why does she have to dance on every song. Enjoy the music as music.

  10. But what is she supposed to do with all that? Most of what you listed is like modern stuff she can't do without. She won't stop using the video screens and I don't think we should expect heavy stage/set props, the last time she did that was the BAT, TGS had a big cut in that, sure the DWT brought back some, but it's not that typical for her. I don't think she's gonna give up the guitar playing either, actually it seems to me that she needs a non-theatrical "concert" part of the show to make it complete these days. The last tour not having that was TGS and she performed only 15 songs there.

I think the CT had enough new stuff to make it seem different from RIT, so I think it's gonna be the same now as well. And if I'm not wrong, the Steven Klein art thing is now only about filming Kanye, Pharrell & Britney, the rest was by Tom Munro.

Totally agree. I don't see how a lot of stage props are going to work in the large venues she plays in. Yes, she has video screens, but it's not like she uses the same or similiar videos so she's not repeating a formula. I can't imagine a modern concert without video screens. George Michael at his concert has these huge video screens and his videos were really amazing.

  11. Exactly. I'm not excited about LAP, It will be like the acoustic version of RIT, wich was lame.

What acoustic version? The version on RIT wasn't just an acoustic guitar song, it had full instrumentation including drums. It wasn't so different from the original.

I'm so excited about Like A Prayer. That album was amazing and she really needs to do at least one song from that album. It was ignored on the Confessions Tour.

  12. The Funny song was the worst choice she ever made. I hardly think that's something to encourage.

Let's be real. Madonna sings what she thinks fits into the artistic feeling and theatre of her show. She doesn't take a poll among her fans asking what they want to hear.

I don't know of any artist that asks fans what they want to hear. Artists always play what they want. You just have to accept that. I don't like the set list, but I will try to enjoy the show for what it is.

I don't have a problem with the Hard Candy songs and not big hits like Music, Ray of Light or LIB.

But I do wish she would take out the lesser known older songs like You Must Love Me, Human Nature and Impressive Instant and replace them with something better known.

  13. Well I don't about anywhere else but Gambler, Dress You Up and Who's That Girl were big hits in the UK.

The same can hardly be said of You Must Love me and Impressive Instant!

She has performed ROL on the last 3 tours as well as Live Earth and Live Aid. Enough Already.

None of those were that big in the U.S. Dress You up was sort of a hit at the time, but is never played on the radio anymore. Adult contemporary stations still play You Must Love Me all the time. I heard in a supermarket yesterday!

But I agree I'd rather hear one of her own ballads. I'm not a fan of the whole Evita period.

  14. more like....

Ditch Candy Shop, Human Nature, Music, Devil, Spanish Lesson, Miles Away, La Isla Bonita, You Must Love Me, Impressive Instant, Ray of Light, and Hung up

Replace with COUNTLESS OTHER FUCKING CLASSICS IN THIS BITCH'S CATALOG THAT SHE REFUSES TO SING.

The point of this tour is to promote Hard Candy. I'm not that big on the album, but I think she is totally right to perform most of the songs from it. You can't really expect her not to do the songs from her current album. That's what she always does on tour.

It's pretty pointless to do a tour promoting an album and than not do a lot of the songs from the album.

I don't think she's refusing to sing her older songs. She just wants to concentrate on the current album which she has every right to do.

I agree that LAB, Music and Ray of Light have been overdone, but I think she's right to do most of the current album.

Also, it would be a huge mistake to leave out Hung Up since it was a huge worldwide hit.

  15. I read at Access Hollywood that Britney is just going to be in a backdrop video and that she won't be singing live with Madonna on stage.

I'm not a Britney fan at all, but I"m cool with it if she's just briefly in a video. I wouldn't want her to be performing live on stage with Madonna.

  16. I find it rather comical that people complain about the set list not having enough big hits.

But then they suggest she do Gambler or Who's that Girl, which aren't really remembered that well or considered big hits by the general public.

Like it or not, songs like Ray of Light, Hung Up and Music are huge hits and and are loved by the public.

  17. Even though I don't like the setlist, I'm trying to keep an open mind about the tour.

We all know that Madonna is not the type of artist to just play all her older songs just like they were recorded.

Some people are acting like they are suprised by the set list, but she has always not done the obvious thing like other artists do on the tour. Why do people suddenly expect her to change the way her tours always are?

There may be a method to her madness, and that all these songs will fit together into one great show.

The only thing that concerns me is there is so much personal stuff going on with her right now, her mind may not be on the tour as it usually is.

So basically even though I don't like the setlist, I"m trying to remain optimistic and hope it will all come together in the end.

  18. madonna doesnt belt out anything anymore

When has Madonna ever belted out anything? That's not her musical singing style. She's not Aretha Franklin. I enjoy her more subdued vocal style. I didn't think Vogue on the RIT was so different from the original.

  19. I totally understand if someone can't afford the tickets and need to save their money for other things.

But that's no different from lots of other things. Lots of people can't afford designer clothes by Prada or an apartment in a certain neighborhood. That doesn't mean the people who make those clothes or build those apartments are somehow ripping people off. That's just life, and life isn't fair.

From what I see, the top price is the same. She hasn't gone up on the prices even though costs have gone up in those two years.

The only way I could see that she could make more affordable tickets is if she scaled down her show. One day it would be cool for her to sing with a band with less going on.

  20. I agree to an extent with some of this, such as the reason why the ticket prices are increasing, but 1) Madonna doesn't need more money and 2) She would still make plenty of money if she charged $100/ticket instead of $400! She's a damn greedball who doesn't give a shit about her fans, and that's all it boils down to. Even in her speech at the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame, she went on and on for like 5 minutes about each person she was thanking and told stories, gushed over them, etc. Then, when it came time to thank her fans, she says "Thank you to all of my fans who have stuck by me through thick and thin (how many times has she said that?) and there sure has been a lot of thick!" or something like that. And that was it! She should have devoted the entire 20 minutes to US because without US, she would be NOBODY. All of those people who came and went in her career helped, but WE are the only reason she is still here today. But it's our fault, because she continues to treat us like shit and we keep coming back for more. Sorry for the rant...

Yes, Madonna doesn't need any more money so by that logic she shoud perform for free. But she does work hard to make a great show, why shouldn't she make a profit? With all the expenses of touring and her shows, it's not clear to me she would make a profit if she only charged $100.

Madonna did acknowledge her fans. It's just natural she's going to have more to say about people she's met personally as far as songwriters and producers. She can't tell a story about a fan because she doesn't know them on the same personal level as she does someone she's got to know in such depth. That doesn't mean she doesn't appreciate her fans.
