I know and I agree. I'm sorry about your two friends loss. I understand the concerns we all have when these situations arise.
My point was more about the reasons behind this type of events occurring in the first place and I wasn't referring to you in particular with the "don't believe everything the media sell us" part
It's a general issue. We live in a dogmatic, sheep/hive mentality society that immediately dismisses the alternative as odd and impossible. Fear fuels this type of society for those that are on top administering the masses. Kind of like with Brexit and the NHS bus and all that propaganda. And all the immigration bs talk and "US regaining OUR sovereignty"
Or when "philanthropist" George Soros made a £1bn profit out of the London Stock Exchange collapse in the early 90s. The same guy who today finances so called NGO ships that are turning the Mediterranean sea into a cemetery
Dogma is dangerous. Regardless whether it comes from religion or science, two faces of the same coin, or of the same con perhaps I should say
I understand what you mean and I was not offended in anyway whatsoever .The point I was trying to make was we all have to be extra careful and to take precautions if you have to visit risky areas ( in Asia the countries that have high confirmed cases are China , S.Korea , Japan , Hong Kong , Singapore , Thailand ). In Europe the biggest outbreak is as of now in Italy but the virus has also spread to the Middle East with Iran being the country with most confirmed cases .
Don't worry I'm not coming to here to say " Omg the Chinese have cooked up the virus in a lab and was planning to use it as biological warfare ( I read that on social media ) ." or " Go and rob a supermarket the plague is coming ! "
I'm just saying do be careful and do take precautions if you have to travel to countries which have been affected because you might be out into quarantine upon your arrival back in your hometown .
PS. The fist friend of mine who died from Bird flu . I was in high school and his parents were expats living in Hong Kong . He flew back to visit his parents during the one of the holidays and never came back . I found out later that he had eaten some chicken feet and got really sick but he thought it was just food poisoning and did not seek treatment . He never came back after that vacation.
I lost my ex bf to SARS and went to pay my respect by visiting his family just right after it had stopped . Hong Kong was like a ghost town back then . It was so eerie and awfully quiet for a city that's usually vibrant and lively .

Lies. Don't believe everything you hear or read on "mainstream media". Fear is the greatest form of mass manipulation. People need to start questioning and informing themselves more. It's too easy to dismiss any alternative explanation in the mocking "conspiracy theory" can. Almost grotesque and certainly superficial
This is not me saying the situation isn't real or critical, I'm just disinclined to believe everything about its portrayal to the masses through the media corporations. It's nothing new, it's been going on for decades and even more
I don't believe every I read in the media but I did lose two friends - one to Bird Flu and one to SARS . COVID-19 is not as deadly as SARS but it's more contagious . We have the Thai New Year coming up in April . It's the biggest celebration of our year and I've a feeling many events will be canceled as it's a festival where you literally throw water at each other . People gather in large groups and celebrate with music and water guns .

Im going to Singapore and Japan in April. Hope it all gets sorted out soon.
I hope so too . Japan has the highest confirmed cases as of now and it's affecting their Summer Olympic planning .

OMG Thailand is unsafe now!
* Cancel BKK trip *
I think you have to be careful anywhere now in the world .
Confirmed cases ( Not including people who are being held for observations )
Japan 33
Thailand 25
Singapore 24
Germany 12
France 6
Australia 13
China 24,387
Canada 4
Hong Kong 18
S. Korea 18
USA 11
UK 2
It's pretty surreal here with everybody wearing face masks and carrying hand sanitiser with some restaurants and resorts turning away Chinese Tourists .
It was reported in the news that the situation would improve sometime after march / April . Otherwise god knows what will happen to the Summer Olympics in Tokyo .

I'll be seeing my friend next week and see what they say. Often they can't say what's really going on while events are unfolding.
However, in previous cases, the press often go with what makes a great story, not what actually is true.
Governor of Wuhan said he knew about the virus before it was announced to the world because they thought they could contain it .
More confirmed cases in Thailand and second death outside mainland China . In Hong Kong this time .
Also a S.Korean patient was diagnosed with the virus after his trip to Thailand . Not sure yet whether he caught it from a Chinese person who was infected while he was a holiday here .
So it is spreading .

I'll keep asking them what they find out but the just think it's something picked up from the local markets.
It originated from the seafood market but within that market there's an exotic meats section where you could buy meats of any kind from snakes, bats, koala , Porcupine , dog etc .
They closed down the market when they knew there was a contamination / disease issues and after they took samples from various spots in the market they found that most contaminated
areas were from the exotic meats section.
As of now Japan and Thailand have the highest cases outside China with one death confirmed outside China ( The Philippines ) .

I mentioned the bat to them too but they dismissed that. I think that's social media making assumptions.
Really ??? It was mentioned several times in the media here that it originated from bats. It was announced only recently in the news that it was from a specific species of bat that
could carry this virus .
Maybe you're right though . I don't even know if we'r getting the whole truth . Apparently our government knew about this way before the Chinese New Year .

A friend of mine is involved with this and I was with her and a friend of theirs who also works on viruses.
It's likely it's a pig or bird related from the markets similar to SARS. It's more infectious than SARS but less lethal, 2% versus 10%.
Yes less lethal than SARS and more curable but I've read that it was from a bat . God knows it was like a cross contamination issue.
I had to go and work in Hong Kong just after the SARS outbreak had stopped . It was like a ghost town .
Like Bird Flu /H5N1 ( 1997 ) ,and SARS (2002-2003 ) the Coronavirus did orginate in Mainland China but Swine Flu/ H1N1 ( 2009 ) originated from USA with a the more recent MERS originated from the Middle East and Ebola ( 2013-2016) originated from Africa .

Nope, I’m arriving at Krabi from a connection in Doha and then straight on a long tail to Koh Jum. I’ve been going to the island for at least ten years, it’s really quiet and tends to be mostly German, Russian and Scandinavian and a rare Brit I tend see.
Yep, I watched the whole of the WHO press conference last night, do you think I really need a mask?
You'll be screened at Krabi . I suggest wearing face mask in public area at all time and wash your hands after getting off any form of transportation as we've just had a first man-man case where a Thai taxi driver picked up a Chinese tourist at an airport and contacted virus from that person . The taxi driver had never been to China .
Yes you do need a mask. Probably several masks . Better to be cautious and careful .
Ps. The Chinese NY celebration was between 21-17 Jan so there would have been tons of Chinese tourists in Krabi so so take extra measure and be careful .

Would be much appreciated if Thailand could get it sorted before my three week jaunt there at the end of February. Krabi airport is screening people, right?
We are screening all international airports . Are you arriving via Bangkok ? If so you will be screened there first . I don't think it will be sorted in 3 weeks to be honest .
WHO just declared it a global emergency so it probably be months before they sort everything out . Do bring face mask and hand santitiser .
-
They are saying it's cross bred of bat and snakes that were sold at the seafood market in Wuhan . You can buy live koala , Porcupine and other exotic meats there as well .
It happened during the Chinese NY celebration ( third week of Jan onwards ) ( I don't believe that. I think they knew about it and it happened prior to Chinese NY and they did try to contain it
but fail .
Thailand is second on the list of countries with confirmed cases . Unlike Taiwan , UK and even Hong Kong our government is too greedy to cancel any flight from Wuhan or cities in China
confirmed cases . Now 16 airlines around the world have canceled their flights to China .
They are saying they could contain it and the Health minister is saying that they are doing a great job as they keep finding people who have contracted the virus ! He is also saying
that we couldn't stop people from Wuhan from traveling around Thailand as it was their right . I mean WTF .
It's pretty serious if China canceled the Chinese New Year celebrations in major cities .

Hell has frozen over! I didn't realise Piers could actually do something worthwhile, saying what most sensible people are saying here. I don't know who this politician is, but I am so embarrassed to say he is representative of so many idiots in power here. What a complete moron.
@Butter9 we really need a lot of rain right now. The fires are too significant to be extinguished using normal methods unfortunately. We can only try and control to stop spread and damage to infrastructure etc.. There has been a little rain in the last day, but much more is needed. And once the fires are out, we will need lots of rain quickly and a comprehensive regeneration plan to have any chance of returning things to the way they were. I'll be interested to hear about what long term impact this has on biodiversity.
@San Please take good care . I hope they have a future preventative plan in place . Something that could be built into the infrastructure. How can this not be about Climate Change ?

I love her artworks for Madonna X and thanks for sharing this .
-
Wow how amazing and cute !
-
All those innocent people . And for what ?
-
What about French Fries ? Did the French really fry them ?
-
I really love the album . She put a lot of effort in it and it shows in the music itself as well as the visuals.
I have to admit that I do feel a sense of disappointment that the album and the singles didn't do well.
Madonna , for me , is THE ultimate pop girl through and through and the fact her latest offering is not ' popular ' and no one seems to care
is a little disheartening . I tried not to care about the charts / airplay but sometimes I gave in and it's almost always disappointing news .
I think the whole music landscape is changing . Even current favourites like Taylor, Beyonce and Katy are flopping .
Maybe nowadays people don't want a high art conceptual album but am forever thankful that Madonna will always serve us with high art conceptual album .
I'm grateful to Madonna as a fan and I wished the public had given her / Madame X more of a chance .

It's the perfect song for the endless summer . Still loving this .

She really went all out with that video. Good choice.
It reminds me of the old Madonna's video that I grew up with . Lots of outfits , a good story line and great cinematography .

Both cases were awful . I didn't know it could happen until it happened to me . It was odd feeling .
The bad news is it is super contagious . The good news is that it can be treated and cured . We had a case in Thailand recently when a elderly man and woman traveled to Hokkaido , Japan . Came back . Got sick and went to hospital but lied to the doctors and nurses about their travel history . They infected their nephew who then went to school unknowingly for a full day . His whole class is now under quarantine .Their son who works in a bank also went to work but he's not infected but everybody in the bank is now in quarantine . And that was just from two people .
So you know it's spreading faster than SARS but not as deadly but no we are not at the brink of WW3 with no food or the world will be like World War Z .
