  1. My Target has a sign for MDNA and Lionel Richie stating on sale date of Tuesday. I swear to God, if it's not on sale tomorrow like it is everywhere else I am going to go off. I have to work 9 to 6, and Target is on my way home. If I have to drive across town to Barnes and Noble after work just because Target can't behave like everyone else, I will be livid.

All you have to do is INSIST they display their product immediately, especially since you've shown them proof of MDNA's release date. I've done that almost every time there is a Monday or Friday release--always works...

  2. So, here's a little mystery (to me): Why doesn't this CD/DVD carry an explicit content sticker? The Confessions CD/DVD did, and the quantity of 'f' words was comparatively fewer in that one. In S&ST, she curses in "Human Nature," "Into the Groove," "Borderline," "She's Not Me," and "Give It 2 Me." In CT, it was only in "I Love New York." (Well, and there was some cursing in Hypnosis's part of the dancers' confessions, before "Live to Tell.") Unless I'm forgetting something else? I mean, she says *ss during the end of "Hung Up," too, I suppose -- but still there was more swearing in the S&ST.

I'm not complaining, just confused. What got me thinking about this was the mention that WalMart was carrying this -- which surprised me. They won't carry anything with the explicit sticker, right? I'm just curious as to why this tour didn't warrant a sticker...

I don't think it's such a mystery; probably conveniently left out to get Wal-Mart to carry it. The iTunes & Amazon albums carry the parental tag, so WB knew...

  3. How can he be a snob? I read an AICN interview with him where he claimed he desperately wanted to get into directing videos for Hip Hop and R&B artists – he mentioned Missy as someone he liked very much.

Timbaland and Missy made some great, Euro-inspired beats during the 90s--definitely revolutionary for its time, like much early hip/hop. And her videos were ground-breaking and exceeded all expectations you might attach from hearing the song, as are most of that genre's videos. I think most video directors would love to work for Missy because she seems very open to outlandish ideas and also has the musical talent to back it up.

I really like Michel Gondry's work-his videos and movies are truly unique, beautiful and always inspired. You can always feel the passion and energy in his work, and I can't wait to see what he brings to the new Seth Rogan superhero movie. I even liked BE KIND REWIND. I've always felt his work meshes well with Madonna's sensibilities, because they have a dreamlike, off-center quality to it, but I guess M's music may be too 'manufactured' and 'calculated' for his liking. Maybe...

  4. How disappointing to hear Michel Gondry's opinion on Madonna--I've always hoped for a creative collabo, maybe a filmic one but it doesn't sound likely. It's quite a diss, and also disrespects the efforts David Fincher put into her work. I think he's just an art/indie snob, and doesn't believe M/Gaga are true creative forces, just girls playing dress-up with minimal artistic investment. I am sure Madonna pushed for a collabo many times before--how could she not? She is probably well aware of his opinion--but too busy laughing her way to the bank to bother. You can probably check him off as ENEMY in Madonna's list...

Remember when Robyn dissed M, and M returned the favor by giving her the opening slot on some shows? I love Madonna!

  5. I'm not sure if the distortion on any CD or music is the fault of bad mixing; mastering seems to be the issue. The music may have sounded great in the studio, well-mixed and engineered. But now the music has to be mastered to make CDs, standards of which were determined in 1980. In order to have that thumping loud sound, which is what people seem to like today, master-ers have to limit the dynamic frequency, clipping the high and low frequencies while boosting the mids. Distortion on the low end is definitely a symptom of a record being 'hot' mastered.

A good example of a well-mastered record is RAY OF LIGHT, which sounds great in all frequencies with no distortion. Only thing is, it sounds much quieter (but more expansive and detailed). HARD CANDY is badly mastered, lots of distortion and far too loud (but comparable to today's standards).

Anyway, I'm not audio expert, but thought I'd add in anyway.

  6. She is all present and all in charge when in the studio.

however, a fantastic lyric & catchy melody are useless without the perfect

music to fuel the song. ITS THE PRODUCER that creates the perfect sound/vibe, and

without him, the project is lost. Madonna realized very early on that the PRODUCER

is what makes the record great.

Whether her input is minimal or maximum, her musical insticts are razor sharp.

She has always made wise choices, even her "failures" are successful compared to

    other standards.

Finally, someone I can agree with. The way she ditched Pat Leonard's original production of FROZEN/POWER OF GOODBYE/To Have.. and redid them with Orbit--the lady knows exactly what she doesn't want in her music. Even if she doesn't know which buttons to push, she knows how her songs should sound like, and is a true producer of her music.

On an off note, did anyone catch the Verizon pre-R&R Hall Of Fame interviews from last year? In one of them, Madonna suggests to Timbaland that they could autotune something (or something rather). Tim rolled his eyes, and in that moment, revealed what he thought of Madonna as a music producer. Loved it!

  7. I guess some of us Madonna fans miss the early Madonna, who used the music video as her complementary outlet for artistic expression. I'd like to think that she's already made every type of music video possible; turn on any and I'm sure we can reference a previous Madonna video that did it first. Madonna's just lost interest in this medium cos not very many people pay attention to music videos anymore (I know this 80s kid certainly doesn't). And she's done so many as well...Touring is where she now does her best work, and rightfully so--a great ticket to a show costs the retail equivalent of 35 CDs/350 mp3s or more, while 3 great videos/songs over 9 months MAY just get the general public to buy one artist's album. If anything, the album/music video is just an excuse for Madonna to tour again--quality control could be slipping as Madonna becomes even less involved in the making of music...

Anyway, I miss video Madonna, but I absolutely love seeing her up close... I just hope that she won't tour again until late 2011, so that her fans can put away more money for more shows this time round (once every 3-4 years is fine, but please, not every two years, please...)

  8. SHANGHAI SURPRISE - A movie so embarrassingly inept, I felt bad watching her try so hard. (Side note-I am the NY fan on the DVD commentary)

BODY OF EVIDENCE - Book and Album were great, movie was overload. Another embarrassing movie, only because Madonna is so bad in every clothed scene (the funeral scene line reading was especially laughable).

THE NEXT BEST THING - The worst of the three mentioned. An insult to everyone, and sadly the final work of the late, great John Schlesinger.

    HEY YOU - Oh No

Gap ads/R&Revisited/Me Against The Music. Thanks, Caresse for the great ideas. Loved all the cover art during this year too!

HARD CANDY album cover. Not terribly artistic for someone whose life is surrounded by art. I'm also referring to you, Guy O.

Every video since DIE ANOTHER DAY (except for HUNG UP). It seems Madonna has decided that touring makes way more money.

  9. Well if i ever find it anywhere , I guess I could comment. I wont buy it online, not paying s/h. Checked Wal-Mart and Best Buy again today , STILL nothing !! ugh

Have you tried Target? Plenty here in Rockland County, NY since Day 1, and was on sale for $20 even last week...

  10. Best Buy West Nyack, NY has about 30 copies of the double, about 15 of the single (I counted their extra stock sitting on metal racks as well)

Target West Nyack had about 20 2-cds, about 8 single CDs; the neighboring Target in Nanuet only had 6 doubles left but about 8 singles (I know the other Madonna Rockland superfan prolly picked up a few before I got there). Each Target also had 6 copies of the DVD ($20). Funnily enough, I observed an OCD guy "inspecting" the front-copy of the double-CD stack, looking it up and down, side by side, top to bottom for his PERFECT, least-contaminated copy. To fuck with him, I quickly grabbed the other 5 copies and walked away. The look of disappointment when he couldn't check the others--priceless (of course I put them back, but after he left. I already bought my copies at the more plentiful Target, thank goodness. Wouldn't want HIS paws all over M before I get to her)....
