  1. It turns out this had been coordinated for some time. Madonna’s team contacted Wintour and the magazine in early January. Vogue, which has a longstanding relationship with the pop icon, immediately cooperated and authorized the use of its trademark. There was no charge.

“We’re so very grateful to Madonna to have been part of such a spectacular performance,” Wintour said, not surprisingly — when does a magazine get free publicity in front of 100 million TV viewers? As Wintour said, “We naturally expect a new audience of football fans.”

Only Madonna could come up with such a brilliant idea.

By doing that she's also saying "I am the Queen of Fashion and the Entertainment industry"

  2. From the Chicago Tribune…

In the mecca of conspicuous consumption that is the Super Bowl, Madonna – the most material of all the girls – was right at home Sunday as the queen of halftime.

Wearing a winged tiara and knee-high leather boots, she entered like Cleopatra as part of a glittering parade, apparently on her to way to an S&M party in Ancient Egypt.

She strutted down nostalgia lane with “Vogue,” her vaunted dancing somewhat constrained, perhaps because of her high heels. She did sit astride another dancer, however, in keeping with the party “theme.”

By the end she was flogging a world peace message during the once-controversial “Like a Prayer.” If nothing else, the Super Bowl teaches us that even the biggest trend-setters and button-pushers tone it down and become acceptable eye-candy between halftime dips into the chili bowl.

She was accompanied by a cast of hundreds: dancers, drummers, tightrope-jumpers, plus pop stars LMFAO, Nicki Minaj and Cee Lo Green. The one outlier was M.I.A., a singer-rapper with the kind of underground resume unusual for Super Bowl halftimes. But if you turned away to reload on nachos, you probably missed them — each performer got only seconds of screen time. This was Madonna’s party and besides breaking off bits of her greatest hits to remind people of a time when she was the biggest pop vixen on the planet, she had important career-advancing work to do.

Madonna, after all, never does anything unless she’s got something to sell, and with a new studio album due out in March and a tour to follow, she had plenty on her to-do list. The Super Bowl has become the biggest stage for shills of all kinds, pop stars included, and halftime has turned into a 12-minute branding opportunity in recent years for artists brandishing new albums, whether Bruce Springsteen or the Black Eyed Peas.

“Give Me All Youre Luvin’,” the new song inserted into the set list, had a – surprise! – football theme, a techno take on Toni Basil’s 1980s cheerleader anthem, “Mickey.” The song was glutted with cameos by Minaj and M.I.A., who dutifully moved their lips along with the backing track being piped through the stadium speakers in Indianapolis. M.I.A. did manage to insert herself into the post-halftime chatter, however, by flipping a left-handed, one-finger salute.

Twenty years ago, one might’ve expected such rudeness from Madonna herself, but in a pregame interview she vowed no “wardrobe malfunctions” to match the Super Bowl scandal pinned on Janet Jackson a few years ago.

Madonna has never really been about “live” performance; her concerts are essentially theatrical exhibitions accompanied by piped in music. This performance was no different. But the song fell flat for other reasons – it just isn’t arresting in the way prime Madonna could be. Rhyming “Ya wanna” with “Madonna,” recasting herself as a cheerleader for a sport that she’s barely noticed in decades past – it was the Material Girl who couldn’t deliver the goods.

The National Anthem was notable if only because the performance by Kelly Clarkson was so straightforward. Unlike last year, when Christina Aguilera tried to make the song all about her and flubbed a line in the process, Clarkson gave a strong, dignified reading backed by martial drumming and a children’s choir. Not coincidentally, Clarkson’s rendition checked in at 1:34, a full 20 seconds more concise than Aguilera’s gymnastics exhibition. Clarkson’s anthem was preceded by Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, who dished up dignity with a twang on “America the Beautiful.” Understatement at the Super Bowl – what a concept.

She has mimed TV appearances on her record (as so do many other acts, even those who are considered vocally more endowed than she is) and some parts of some tours (BAT, GS and parts of S&S) but if you write that you're implying to a casual listener/reader she NEVER sang or sings live which just isn't true.

  3. Ultimately, it's about reaching a broader audience and getting your music heard (whether it's "free" CDs or performing at the Super Bowl). I think in the last decade, Madonna's albums have been more promotional tools for her tours (and not the other way around).

I disagree on that part specifically because a top 5, top 10 or top 15 best-selling album of the year wouldn't qualify as a mere promotional tool for the touring side. Especially considering her field and her age at the time of the last 4 tours/records.

  4. It's clear that the touring aspect is more important than all the rest and not just for Madonna these days.

Some people seem to have forgotten Madonna's press statement that went with the announcement of her Live Nation deal back in late 2007. "The business model within the music industry has changed" END. I don't undestand why people would find any fault about how this new era has started.

She's giving her cd in the US to her concert customers? Big Deal. Prince was doing it almost 10 years ago. How many 53 yo pop (or other) acts who've been around for three decades manage to come out with a video and a performance like those and a number 1 album on Itunes (based on pre-order alone).

She is going to get another top 10 best-selling album of the year and another huge high-grossing tour. Isn't that good enough?

  5. Actually, the negativity is from the testosterone-filled football fans that in general do not like pop music. Most pop music fans like Madonna.

Personally, I loved it, but then again, I also love Kylie. Its funny how when Kylie does it, people here trash her, M does something similar and they love it  I love them both :)

Similar? Because she went all Cleopatra? :lmao:

Pity Madonna's kind of show doesn't look like a cheap campfest. Besides Madonna's songs are known and remembered also outside of the internet ghey circles. Then again Kylie wouldn't get asked in the first place. Not the same level of stardom sorry. And not just geographically speaking.

  6. If I read one more comparisons to KYLIE, i will lose it

KYLIE would NEVER EVER be asked to do the superbowl. KYLIE did not copyright any of those fucking looks. MADONNA INVENTED KYLIE. I dont care if you think Madonnas hair should have been 3 inches shorter, straighter, parted differently, wearing pink shoes, pulled a rabbit out of her twat, didn`t lip sync a LIVE non sound-checked performance with that amount of movement so there was NO ROOM for ERROR...I DONT CARE!!! LOL!

It was an amazing show. She looked great. Under that amount of stress, she BLEW IT AWAY. I am a Madonna fan...been one for mmmmmmmmany years. It was one of her career highlights.

    :clap::clap::clap:

  7. Her entrance was GLORIOUS. Kylie can sniff my hole, because she fucking wishes. If this was a Kylie Superbowl that entrance would have been RUINED by some mincer on a string flying around in his PINK undies and holding flowers. fakt.

I didn't mind the lipping, i think some fans really need to COME TO TERMS with Madonnas vocal ability. The amount of dancing, moving, FLIPPING she was doing would have made a live attempt sound AWFUL voice wise. She would have been bashed for shit vocals OR miming tbh, so yeah whatever.

    :rotfl:

I loved everything about it. And about the lypsinch who cares. Why people need to be told

50 times that the NFL asks performers to mime since there's no sound check. Besides doing

all that phisically how can you expect somebody to also sing and sound decent.

It was a perfect showcase to the casual fan and a promotion tool like no other.

My fav part was the shuffling and GMAYL of course

  8. at this kind of event most artists will lip synch unless they just intend to stand there and sing....She was all over the stage and danced her ass off...in addition, without being able to do proper sound checks it would be truly a huge risk. THIS WAS A FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE

    thanks for saying this

now I can't wait to see it

  9. OMG I am overwhelmed and have cry. :dramatic: Real spine-tingling moments there. I loved that stage and set up and OMG if it's a glimpse at the forthcoming tour.

Open Your Heart! An inevitable EY! She performed with Cee-Lo even though he performed with Goop ( :lmao: ). Loves it, pretty much the perfect half time show. Vogue + LAP + her last huge US #1 signature song and easier to do than ROL Music. I'd have loved if they added some guitar to LAP, but that's one song the straight audience would at least like, wise move showcasing that as always.

The only thing I would say was there were too many damn long shots, you could hardly see her at times and the stage was so immense she was in danger of getting swallowed up by it. But this was a real QoL moment, the best in years/decade(s). :drama:

    was she looking good?

  10. "Gambler" virgin tour live, "burning up", "Run","Beautiful stranger" that's what it sounds like in terms of Madonna's own catalogue.

If it sounds like the Dandy Warhols then the Dandy Warhols and GMAYL sound like any surfer rock song of the last 50 years : Last year's "Abducted" bu Cults, "Give me back my man" by the B-52's, the whole Drums catalogue, the Kinks etc.... and on and on

  11. myMDNA has learned some exclusive information regarding the promotion for MDNA. The queen will do a serious press tour the last week in March and will be visiting talk shows all over New York. She is currently in talks to do a performance outside the today show which will lead up to her big promo show the night after the album is released. They are apparently still trying to negotiate venue details as we speak, but rest assured this will be no ordinary promo show as Madonna is pulling out all the stops to make MDNA the biggest selling record of her career!.

    Source: myMDNA.com

Idk if it's credible but it sounds possible and I'd love to happen so I can see her again. Her promo tours are always so much fun. :)

At all of these promotion plans :dramatic:

2012 the definitive Madonna year :tigger:

  12. Interview with Giovanni Bianco for the brazilian magazine "Época" about MDNA cover (I translated, so forgive me if I mistranslate something):

"The commitment to do something new in working with Madonna, which no one has yet seen, is enormous. I worked with a pair of photographers Mert & Marcus and contrary to what seems the image is not the effect of Photoshop. The photos were taken in the simplest way possible, behind a glass rib. When the album be released you will see an explosion of images", he told.

He also says that one of the funniest things that happens on the eve of a Madonna's release, is the amount of false covers and videos parodying the pop star.

"I suggested to her that we do a book with them. They are so good and hilarious at times I'm afraid they are better than my ideas." said Giovanni,

How did you get the invitation to work with Madonna again?

We have a professional relationship of great respect, from which emerged a friendship. We always kept in touch, we talk. I went to the premiere of her new film, 'WE', in Venice and she called me to hear the songs of the album. I heard six of them, did the research and then she selects what she wants.

    She is really a controller-freaky?

She requires a lot, in an almost absurd way, about the time, your availability and your ability to understanding. She is a professional who does many things at once and know exactly what she wants. Sometimes, I send an idea and she replies: 'I've done it.' The coolest thing that we joke and sometimes fight, is that I try to give her the idea that I'm also a fan. Sometimes it's hard to be professional, fan and friend at the same time.

    What's different about this album?

The songs are happy, to have fun. I wanted to dance for all of them. The image of this work is a woman who has so much power, but who likes to have fun.

How is it possible to give the image of a dancing woman of 53 years old without looking like a little girl?

Madonna is ageless, she does not have that weight. The age only makes her better. Her energy it's of a 20 years old girl. Her spirit is young.

The new tour will be coming to Brazil?

I think it will be in December. She loves Brazil and has a very special affection for our country. She loves to do shows here. Sometimes when she talks very fast american slang, she sees that I do not understand and repeat for me to understand the joke. We have so much fun. I always carry Brazil and Rio with me. If I was not doing this, I would be carnivalesque. People see it in myself. When I do a job very colorful, They say: There goes the brazilian.

After Madonna, what is missing on your resume?

My dream is to work with Maria Bethania, Alcione and Zeca Pagodinho(all barzilians artists). They would make me the happiest man in the world.

    thank you
