Daily Mail being giving her a positive front page? What is this?
-
People need to stop with calling her a "gay icon" - she's an ICON period. She's not fucking Ru Paul or Kylie.
Also the whole things smacks of homophobia than an artist that codes as ~gay~ isn't good enough for the great and pure straight fanbase of the Superbowl (even though a lot of gay men LIKE SPORT anyway).
-
I want Rihanna to rack up the #1s - she can pass Madonna so that she ends up overtaking Mariah's 18 #1s (the only thing she has) which will be the sweetest.
-
RAY OF LIGHT.
and Like A Virgin
-
I don't think her voice has ever sound better on a record as it has on this - smooth, rich, warm, vulnerable. It was like she'd finally reached her perfect mature voice and then she fucked it all away with those dreadful singing lessons.
-
Erotica followed by this was her artistic peak. FACT.
-
Matthew Morrison said he is not a Madonna fan. Fuck that fucker!
He's just probably trying to shield himself from any gay rumors by denying he's a fan.
Have you read his comment?
– Matthew Morrison recalls: “I wasn’t a big fan of Madonna; never got into it. As a heterosexual guy, she didn’t have much impact on my life.

BORDERLINE.
-
This was her peak wasn't it - everything from 1982 had been building up to this and at "Vogue" she was at the height of her powers. It completely immortalised her.
-
She has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame for a start.

I think 80s Madonna has quite a lot of rockist cred nowadays. The 'Rock World' may hate what Madonna *represents* but they love Boderline/Into The Groove/Like A Prayer and many other of her 80s singles.
And I don't think Lady GaGa has rock cred (at least not yet). And if she does it's probably only due to all barriers Madonna broke through all those years ago, which has made many aspects of female pop music more credible than they were before.
-
Although I don't agree with Slant only giving her 4 stars, the fact they've been the first webzine to actually back up their view and give a detailed explanation of why the album isn't of 5 Star Quality, makes me respect it considerably.

Michael doesn't deserve the ridiculous adoration people now feel towards him in death.
-
The British Media REALLY hate her don't they?Mirror review
http://blogs.mirror.co.uk/the-ticket/2009/09/album-review-celebration---mad.html
This 36-track, double disc, definitive career- encompassing compilation conveniently follows Madge's recent expensive divorce. The stark reality though is that, as a cultural force, she peaked in 1989 with the superb Like A Prayer. Thereafter it's her image manipulation and media savvy that impress - far more than retro confections such as Hung Up.
3/5
OUCH
-
Did they just add on Madonna's old mole? LOL.
-
At least with Celebration she's kind of reembraced the first album. Many people now say it's her best, like Neil Tennant and Maria Carey.
When did Mariah say that?
-
GHV2 would have worked if:
It had a better name: "The Second Coming", not the awful "GHV2"
Better, more iconic cover.
Chronological tracklisting
A single to launch it, a la "Justify My Love".
-
I saw GHV2 on sale in HMV on sale for £3 this week in quite a prominent position. I'm surprised why WB would want to increase it's sales before Celebration was released.

I'm drinking a Soy latte,
I get a double shotte,
It goes through my body,
And you know I'm satisfied
I drive my Mini Cooper
And I'm feeling super-dooper
Yo they tell I'm a trooper
And you know I'm satisfied
I do yoga and Pilates
And the room is full of hotties
So I'm checking out the bodies
And you know I'm satisfied
I'm digging on the isotopes
This metaphysics shit is dope
And if all this can give me hope
You know I'm satisfied
I got a lawyer and a manager
An agent and a chef
Three nannies, an assistant
And a driver and a jet
A trainer and a butler
And a bodyguard or five
A gardener and a stylist
Do you think I'm satisfied?
I'd like to express my extreme point of view
I'm not Christian and I'm not a Jew
I'm just living out the American dream
And I just realised that nothing
Is what it seems

But it's in her Top 5 most played recurrent tracks (with Into The Groove, Crazy For You, Holiday and Like A Prayer) - it'd be MADNESS to leave it off. Especially for shit like Miles Away, which the general public won't know nor care for.
-
15 million people would see her - if she performed the week of the album release her sales would skyrocket.
-
My ranking:
01. Like a Prayer
02. Act Of Contrition
03. Oh Father
04. Til Death Do Us Part
05. Express Yourself
06. Dear Jessie
07. Promise to Try
08. Cherish
09. Love Song
10. Keep It Together
11. Spanish Eyes

Have you seen this?

(It's amazing btw.)
Can we work out any more tracks from it?
And is it just wishful thinking that because the image of her from the Rain video is on it, it will make the album?
-
"Act Of Contrition" - one of the greatest things she's EVER done.

Confessions got a 6.2 LOL.
They may ~appreicate~ her in retrospect, but I can't imagine them giving her a good review to any of her albums at the time of their release, except maybe Like a Prayer and Erotica.
