  1. Then, I listened to the B side (ShoBeDo) and I laughed, because I thought it sounded sad and dumb, and I didn't understand how one song can be sooo cool, and the other made me want to break the record.

I felt the same about Shoo-Bee-Doo... Like A Virgin was the first CD I got (not in 1984... I got it in 1986) and the CD-Technology was so new... my dad owned the portable CD player and we only had 4 or 5 CDs at the time... and I forced him to buy Like A Virgin... I remember he only listened to Love Don't Live Here Anymore a couple of times and I tried to tell him that here were so many better songs on the album...

About the transition to True Blue... well... in Germany Madonna wasn't really THAT BIG before True Blue... when it came to female singers it was all about Kim Wilde and Tina Turner and Jennifer Rush... and of course everyone loved Nena... but True Blue made her the biggest star in Germany, especially with La Isla Bonita... that song was the biggest tune in Germany in the summer of 1987 and her first No.1 single... the album was on the Top 75 forever... for almost three years consecutively...

When the Open Your Heart Video premiered on the most popular German TV Show "Formel Eins" my parents didn't want me to see that smut and Madonna was labled "bad"... oh... and I remember that I was never able to get into the Madonna Fan Club... I tried so many times... and I remember that MTV was so desperate to play Madonna videos... Material Girl and Angel were always in rotation... they made their own clip for Angel by taking scenes from previous Madonna videos...

  2. I just turned 19 when it was released and I was really disappointed by the album. At the time I was really chart-obsessed and feared for Madonna's immaculate and flawless chart statistics... I mean Oh Father was a first indication that the magic wouldn't last forever... but after listening to the album, I thought that only Rain and Deeper And Deeper had any chart potential... I was very happy, when Deeper And Deeper was announced to be the second single, but was crestfallen when it performed so bad and that she looked so ugly in the Video (compared to her 80s material)... at the time it was the battle Madonna vs. Paula Abdul and Madonna was losing it... chart-wise... (of course Paula's streak ended in 92 as well, but at the time it seemed that she was surpassing Madonna with her next album).

Personally I only really liked Erotica and Deeper And Deeper and was disappointed by songs like Did You Do It? and Bye Bye Baby...

Today my opinion hasn't changed much... I had to wait another 6 years for an Madonna album I really liked again... Ray Of Light...

  4. I gave it 6 points... she looks fantastic in it... flawless... the production is nice... high gloss... but the video itself is not very impressive... it lacks artistry... it`s just not very believable and very corny....

You can not compare it to a work of art like La Isla Bonita or Frozen... those videos truely became one with the song... and were not all over the place like Ghosttown... though she really looks awesome...

  6. Madonna should include lots of the Spanish influenced Songs on this tour.

The tour should be loosely based on "A Sun Also Rises" from Ernest Hemingway and it should be very theatrical, almost like a musical with a surprising storyline. There would be one main character named Anna Conda (played by Madonna), her rival Anita Fajina (who is secretly in love with her) and the beautiful bullfighting Oswaldo the Matador, who seduces her.

Act 1 - The Grand Barcelona Hotel

The world-famous Anna arrives with her entourage at the grandiose Grand Barcelona Hotel where lots of illustrious people meet for the annual bullfighting tournament. Madonnas 80s Spanish influenced hits set the tone for her arrival:

    01 - Mash-Up of Who`s That Girl & La Isla Bonita
02 - Mash-Up of Holiday & Another Suitcase in Another Hall
    03 - Mash-Up of I`m Going Bananas & Material Girl
04 – Illuminati (various pompous hotel guests get introduced)
05 - Beautiful Stranger (when she meets the swashbuckling Oswaldo)
06 - Best Night (when she seduces Oswaldo)

Act 2 - Who`s Afraid of Anna Conda?

This will be full-on Rebel Heart Tracks and the ultimate sex fest, like lots of kissing, groping and fellatio. There will be dancers with horns like in her Grammy-performance and a lot of physical intimacy. This will also be the part where Antia Fajina will be introduced.

    07 - Bitch, I`m Anna Conda
08 - Living For Love (she should do the Brits Performance including the fall, for pure comedy)
09 - S.E.X. (where she teaches Oswaldo her tricks)
    10 - Inside Out (sexy)
    11 - Veni Vidi Vici
    12 - Unapologetic Bitch

Act 3 - The Festival of San Pedro

After the wild night at the hotel, Anna and trappy Oswaldo dress up for their entrance at the bullfighting arena. The participants take their places, a bull is released into the ring and the fight commences. But suddenly everyone realises that Oswaldo has put Anna into the Matador dress and she has to fight the bull because he is too afraid. With a lot of heart and a little luck Anna escapes with a giant jump in the last minute.

13 - Dress You Up (Oswaldo tricks Anna into his costume)
    14 - Burning Up
15 - Wash All Over Me
16 - Hung Up (lots of action moves and stunts)
    17 - Rescue Me
18 - Jump (the escape from the arena)
    19 - Die Another Day

Act 4 - The Exorcism of Anna Conda

Oh no! Oswaldo has run off with Anita and Anna is left alone. But to end the show on a positive note Anna realises that she barely made it out of the arena alive and that she should be lucky that she still can enjoy her money and her fame. She doesn`t need Oswaldo to do that.

20 - Take A Bow (lights are low, the curtains down... the show is over? No...!)
21 - Like A Prayer (the exorcism of Anna Conda and the Highlight of the show, lots of effects)
22 – Mash up of Devil Pray and Angel (holding on, not getting weaker)

23 - Messiah (almost no effects, she simply lights a candle in the dark and comes to terms with herself)
24 - Live To Tell (you just have to include this beautiful song, one of ther best!)
25 - Rebel Heart (of course the superior Avicci-Version, not the crippled album version)

Too bad that Heartbreak City and Ghosttown didn`t make it! :(

  7. I think the producers did a good job with the Rebel Heart album. But to integrate the Rebel Heart song into the album it seems they had to strip the original Avicii version off of its core qualities to fit the tone of the album. They clipped and trimmed it. Removed the key hooks, sucked out its feel-good energy, slowed down the pace and disrupted its carefree flow.

And what could have become another uplifting Madonna anthem was neutered to forgettable filler material. I think that`s why Rebel Heart didn`t even make the album and was just included as a bonus track on the deluxe edition of the album.

When the demos leaked last year, it was the obvious single choice for almost everybody. It was THE standout track. Maybe not for the gay fanboys who favoured LFL, but the general response from non-Madonna fans was surprising. You could hear comments that she finally has a real hit again on her hands. The reception was so super-positive. The Avicii version of Rebel Heart is mainstream pop, pleasently radio-friendly, so that reaction was maybe not that shocking.

But that is obviously not what Madonna wanted for the first single. Madonna never had a lot of appreciaction for the more poppy, happy sounding songs like Cherish, Who`s That Girl, True Blue or Dress You Up. And I get it... the first single should be a representation of whats to come. So maybe they should`ve kept this track, make it a soundtrack single or something for a future project. They shouldn`t have messed with it to just fit the Album, because the potential of this song was huge.

That having said, I do love what they did to Devil Pray, Illuminati and almost every other track on the album. Just my opinion.

  8. Best:

    1. Patrick Leonard
    2. Steven Bray

    3. Stuart Price
    4. Mirwais
    5. William Orbit

    Worst:

    1. Martin Solveig
    2. Dallas Austin
    3. Dave "Jam" Hall
    4. Anthony Shimkin
    5. David Foster

Honorable Mention: Babyface - although most here hate him, I think both of his tracks save the Bedtime Stories album as Forbidden Love and Take A Bow are the stand-out tracks with the most memorable melodies. Though I have to say I dislike almost every other track Babyface did (those boring BoyzIIMen tracks). And I also like a lot of the Timbaland tracks on Hard Candy, though they are not as great as the stuff he did with Nelly Furtado.

  9. Worst singles...or songs that were (somehow) released as a single:

    # 1 - Hey You (2007)
    # 3 - Bye Bye Baby (1993)
    # 3 - Living For Love (2015)
    # 4 - Give Me All Your Luvin (2012)
    # 5 - Get Together (2006)
    # 6 - Me Against the Music (2003)
    # 7 - American Life (2003)
    # 8 - Nothing Really Matters (1999)
    # 9 - One More Chance (1996)
#10 - What It Feels Like For A Girl (2001)

Worst Overall... Songs that were at least released on an album:

    # 1 - Did You Do It? (Erotica)
    # 2 - Spanish Lesson (Hard Candy)
    # 3 - In This Life (Erotica)
    # 4 - B-Day Song (MDNA)
    # 5 - Bye Bye Baby (Erotica)
    # 6 - Runaway Lover (Music)
    # 7 - Shanti/Ashtangi (Ray of Light)
    # 8 - Don't Stop (Bedtime Stories)
    # 9 - Love Makes the World Go Round (True Blue)
    #10 - X-Static Process (American Life)

  10. I voted:

    # 1 - Ghosttown

    # 2 - Devil Pray

    # 3 - Illuminati

Though the right choice would`ve been Rebel Heart in the Avicii Version... that`s the track almost everyone loved right from the start. It got such positive feedback from non-Madonna fans (whilst LFL got lukewarm response from the non-fans, though was loved by gay fan base).

It was radio-friendly... had total mainstream appeal... was the obvious single choice... and now in its final version Rebel Heart is no longer a contender for a single... it was getting over 30% of the votes even from fans here on this forum, but now in its final version its votes gone down to 9%.

So my vote is for Ghosttown as the second single.

  11. Out of the 6 officially released songs, BIM surely gets the most attention so far. I believe the typical Madonna fan will love the 90s gay LFL the most, the general public so far loves Devil Pray and Ghosttown the most, but overall according to spotify it is strangely BIM that gets the most clicks... a huge part surely has to do with Nicki...

  12. I don`t think he is trashing Rebel Heart... he seems just frustrated... and I can partly understand the frustration since all his tracks from MDNA were superior to the single releases... Gang Bang, I’m a Sinner, Love Spent, Masterpiece and Falling Free were all way better than the single choices... he saved that record with those tracks... and in some tracks from Rebel Heart like Inside Out or Hold Tight you hear a bit of Orbit...

  13. Here is my review. Overall I really like the leaked demos and hope those 8 tracks do make the cut:

Rebel Heart (10/10) It just has this universal appeal and would be awesome as the lead single. Very mainstream. It is so very sweet and catchy. It has this unique quality stemming from its original melody. A melody of a classic. I would love this to be also the album opener since it sets such a great vibe.

Unapologetic Bitch (8/10) I do really like it. It has something very special. Something you can not point out instantly. Sounds a bit like No Doubt/Gwen Stefani, but could also be on the next Rihanna album. Should definitely be a single.

Illuminati (8/10) Interesting accoustics, it`s very different though it`s probably the one song of all the demos that sounds the most Madonna, I think because she delivers it with those typical Madonna vocals which are just great. Really like it.

Heartbreak City (6/10) Great intense start that sets the tone for this song. I think it`s the backing vocals that make this song. Not so much Madonnas voice. I would love more choir in this and less Madonna. Maybe also less swearing. The Michael Jackson sample strangely suits it really well.

Addicted (The One That Got Away) (8/10) I hear Shirley Manson singing this... very Garbage with this vintage Abba opening. The raw production and powerful chorus make this track so good and shifts it past tracks like Revolution or Make the Devil Pray (I am comparing because they all have this American Life/Music vibe, this folk element). Though with a more disco-like production it would have also been perfect on the Confessions Album.

Bitch I`m Madonna (5/10) I really like it, this surely is the song where the opinions differ the most. But guys, it`s not just noise. It`s a really fun dance track.

Make The Devil Pray (6/10) Like it a lot. But her squeaky voice annoys me a little in the verses in this production, in general I really like this catchy campfire song, has some medieval vibe to it also with its opening.

Joan of Arc (4/10) Listening to the demos... I thought... wow... with this project I do like the faster songs more, though Joan of Arc is nice, I like it more than Messiah, it`s got a fetching melody and sounds so very pure and neat.

I hope these do not make the cut:

Messiah (2/10) This would be good as a closing credit song to a big romantic movie, I do hope this does not make the cut. It`s quite boring.

Revolution (2/10) American Life meets Avicii, nothing special, but I love it when she sings: Constitutiooon!

Wash All Over Me (3/10) It is just not very catchy or memorable to me. Though I like the production.

Living For Love (2/10) I really can`t get into this one, I tried it several times since this is rumoured to be the first single, it just sounds so very 90s, but not in a good way. Addicted sounds also very 90s with it`s Garbage-like sound like "Only Happy When It Rains", but LFL reminds me just of those generic 90s disco-tracks. I hope it will grow on me since this will definitely will make it on the album.

Borrowed Time (2/10) Don`t really care for it.

  14. I think that only Rebel Heart has the potential to score really big outside the Madonna World. It is just very catchy and universal and has a unique fresh melody.

My personal favourites from the demos: Illuminati, Addicted & Heartbreak City... but since Living For Love and Unapologetic Bitch are the ones considered to be single my votes goes to Unapologetic Bitch... it`s quite catchy.
