  1. Whatever she's done to her face, I assume the filler injections, it doesn't look permanent. She didn't look this puffy a few month ago. And she probably won't look like this in a few months unless she gets really crazy.

Nothing will ever be as scary as that Britney video from 2008 where she looked Chinese and had Mr. Potato lips, :scared: fortunately that too wasn't permanent.

I don't know if it's just age, being perhaps menopausal and her hormones acting crazy with some form of bloating, or if's she just simply laying off the gym for awhile until touring.

Whatever it is it just makes the plastic surgery look more apparent, bordering on Cher territory. She should lay off the filler and stick to botox. Either do it right or bring back the character wrinkles. And get a better stylist who will tell her the truth.

  2. Madonna's been working with black musicians since her early NYC days. I don't think Timba and Pharrel's race had much to do with it, as it was the quality of their musical contribution. IMO, the well in Tim's "innovative" (read: STOLEN) music had been run dry by that point. The Pharrell sessions were much better by comparison.

I don't think there's a backlash at this point. Most of the public and media recognize Madonna for what she contributed and have treated her with legendary status. She's always referenced in pop culture (whether it's through one of Gaga's bastardizations of her work, or by other pop stars).

It's just that she probably won't get the same amount of accolades and commercial success as she gets older, it happens. I've learned to accept it. The point is she created a quite a legacy that other acts today wish they could ever do; and that's the problem they'll face because their lasting legacy in pop culture will always go back to The Madonna Template.

  3. For what it's worth, does it really matter if Madonna only made $58 million? She does well enough than most of the world, I'm not rooting for her to break $100 mil. But I usually hate these Forbes's lists and their constant pandering of celebrity wealth, I feel like I'm reading In Touch Magazine.

I have to wonder at the $62 million Lady Gaga took home (obviously not from album sales in this day and age). With her overhead and her need for such large budgets at such an early stage of her career I wonder how much of that money she actually took home. Hell I'm surprised she isn't bankrupt.

VAN SANT: When I called him to see whether he would play the role in Milk, he took half a second to say yes. I guess he knew the elements were there.

MADONNA: I could see why he would be attracted to the role and be able to say yes in two seconds. Watching Milk was such a trip down memory lane for me.

VAN SANT: Yeah? Did you go to the Castro a lot?

MADONNA: I did when I was younger. But you know, what the movie triggered for me was all my early days in New York and the scene that I came up in-you know, with Andy Warhol and Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat and Kenny Scharf. It was just so alive with art and politics and this wonderful spirit. So many of those people are dead now. I think that's one of the reasons I cried. In fact, the character that Richard E. Grant plays in the film I directed, Filth and Wisdom [2008], is this blind professor who was based on my ballet teacher, Christopher Flynn. Growing up in Michigan, I didn't really know what a gay man was. He was the first man-the first human being-who made me feel good about myself and special. He was the first person who told me that I was beautiful or that I had something to offer the world, and he encouraged me to believe in my dreams, to go to New York. He was such an important person in my life. He died of AIDS, but he went blind toward the end of his life. He was such a lover of art, classical music, literature, opera. You know, I grew up in the Midwest, and it was really because of him that I was exposed to so many of those things. He brought me to my first gay club-it was this club in Detroit. I always felt like I was a freak when I was growing up and that there was something wrong with me because I couldn't fit in anywhere. But when he took me to that club, he brought me to a place where I finally felt at home. So that character in Filth and Wisdom was dedicated to him and inspired by him. I don't know why I'm bringing all this up, but I guess it's just coming from that world in Michigan and the trajectory of my life: after going to New York and being a dancer when the whole AIDS epidemic started and nobody knew what it was. And then suddenly, all these beautiful men around me, people who I loved so dearly, were dying-just one after the next. It was just such a crazy time. And watching the world freak out-the gay community was so ostracized. But it was also when I was beginning my career. . . . I don't know. Your movie really struck a chord for me and made me remember all that. It's a time I don't think many people have captured on film. It's a time that people don't talk about much. And even though there was so much death, for me, New York was so alive.

VAN SANT: It's amazing that you had a person like that in your life who was such an influence.

God, I will love this woman forever, no matter what.

  5. She's had 2 children to be fair.

I'm surprised she hasn't had a tummy tuck.

I thought it was kinda cute and she still looked pretty good in the photo for the most part. I mean she is 51 and skin won't be elastic as it once was no matter how many pilates or weight training you do. I suppose a tummy tuck could help.

Others at the same age would generally sag FAR worse.

  7. These were shot by Klein. I assume that what he shot with M is quite similar to these.

I find those shots rather fascinating.

I'm sure the first thing that came to mind in her head was The Black Madonna from the medieval era paintings and frescoes. But she also loves double entendres so I could see her trying to do something pretty provocative yet inventive.

However, coming off of adopting an African baby boy and courting American audiences with an R&B-flavored album of black producers...that could have been the epic fail of her career. I can imagine American audiences not getting the idea and seeing it more like Madge doing her best Al Jolsen impression.

  8. Oh, Madonna. Your taste level is so questionable sometimes. Even w/r/t your own work!

Well she has said that Candy Shop was the best thing off Hard Candy.

That Black Madonna thing and the possible imagery of Madonna in blackface is all sorts of LOLz though :D . I'm sure she had a coherent vision in mind about challenging our perception of such imagery, but the execution probably would've come off poorly. It would make the SEX backlash look like a simple slap on the wrists.

So far French Vogue is already getting flack for this photoshoot.

  9. On Divorcing Guy Ritchie Last Year: "What can you say? It was a challenging year. I think work saved me, and I'm very grateful that I had work to do. I may have thrown myself off a building. Life is an adjustment. It's different. My sons aren't with me right now, they're with their father, and I'm not very comfortable with the idea of my children not living together. There are pros and cons, but I feel good now."

Really? I thought she had custody of all four kids, where I assume Guy got as much visitation as needed. If that is the case then it's a bit sad for everyone involved. :(
