  1. Not that she'd post a giant red X on her insta without there being some significance to it, but there's always the possibility that "Madame X" is a just dummy name for Madonna. This is sometimes done internally to throw off anyone casually glancing at restricted pre-release information and music that goes out to select trusted reviewers, etc.

Some favorite examples from the days of CDR:

    Alanis Morissette as "Alan Martin"...

    Alanis+Morissette+Flavors+Of+Entanglemen

Stevie Nicks as "Sound & Noise"... :rotfl:

    Madonna as "Madame X" is...conceivable...?

  2. Reminded of this 2001 review of GHV2:

"So there's this pop singer... you may have heard of her? Madonna, she's called, and the word is that she's basically all image; she went through a put-your-hands-all-over-my-body phase, then she got spiritual, and then she started wearing cowboy hats. Between all the gossip columns and photo shoots, though, she's left an unmatched trail of devastatingly wonderful singles -- roaring dance records, tender ballads, and a curious combination of the two that is her personal specialty ("Secret" and "Ray of Light"). How many artists' best-of-the-second-decade collections crowd out legitimate hits? ("American Pie," anyone? "This Used to Be My Playground"?) Unlike 1990's Immaculate Collection, GHV2 doesn't have any new material; "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina," from Evita, and the glorious '60s pastiche "Beautiful Stranger" are the only songs that haven't appeared on a Madonna album before. But it compresses her past 10 years worth of records into an hour of one peak after another. --Douglas Wolk"

"For years, violent and humiliating police raids were common occurrences at gay sanctuaries across the country. Discrimination and unjust treatment was beyond comprehension. No gathering place for the LGBTQ community was truly safe, and our brothers and sisters weren't free to celebrate like we are tonight. And we must never forget that. A half a century later, Stonewall has become a defining moment and a critical turning point in history — catapulting LGBTQ rights into public conversation and consciousness, and awakening activism”.
