  1. "Revolver," like MATM, is throwaway, but it's an OK listen. Can see why both "Celebration" and "Revolver" were used for a compilation. With JML and "Rescue Me," neither are among M's grandest, either, but they were better than these two tracks, collectively, and at least we have the JML video. The "Celebration" video is one of the most pointless clips she's ever produced- almost rivals "American Life" (Geography Lesson) in that department.

Jump is OFFICIALLY the most pointless video clip in the entire history of video clips in the universe ever amen.

  2. Oh Acko, it's not worse than MATM!

It has a hook, its chorus is very catchy (even if it sounds like 'Red Vulva') and it has gun fire - what more do you want? GUN FIRE I TELL YOU!

MATM was the sound of two mountain goats clashing horns on a hillside.

Revolver is the sound of two people in different parts of the world having no idea the other is featuring on their demo. Yet I love it.

  3. Do we count this as an official single or not?

For the yes argument, remixes were commissioned, a physical Cd and downloads available.

For the no argument, it was not pushed to radio, not promoted in any way and no video made.

So was it an official single and thus her worst performing ever song?

  4. I am sad I even started to read this thread! Totally ruined the illusion and image I had of her in my head. Will NEVER read another blog of hers again! She will look back and cringe at this herself I'm sure. What is Madonna thinking? Dakota Fanning is 2 years older then lola but is WORLDS APART in maturity....but then again Dakota was always mature and sweet for her age. Lola is just trying too hard to be hip and cool and use the lingo of NOW. Its obvious just by the way she writes and dresses herself that she is VERY attention seeking. Guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!

    Wow, you're a cunt.

  5. I think she needs to find someone who can actually inspired her to create something fab just like ROL.

I remember she was fishing around after Evita and dun really know what to do until she came across W/O and gave her the inspiration. Billboard even called her "Artiste" and said she can predict the future music trend. :dramatic:

Therefore I think it would be better if she releases a new album in 2015.

I agree with all of that apart from 2015. I don't think I can wait that long.

  6.

I could live with an album not being to my taste if it was a passionate effort on her part. What I can't stand is the half arsed, 'let's stick a record out as I'm contractually obliged to' mediocrity. In some respects, her being without a record deal is a blessing as she can pursue her other endeavours and make an album when she's truly inspiredto.

Exactly, Queenie. I only really like about half of the Erotica album, the rest just does nothing for me at all. But at least I can appreciate the effort that went into it, even if I found it misfired a lot of the time.

I believe she passionate about Erotica. I don;t hear any of that passion in Hard Candy.

  7. I don't think an album full of 'good' songs is enough for someone like Madonna.

She needs an album full of really great tracks. Sure, there were a couple of 'good' tracks on Confessions, but that felt like a cohesive album, it flowed beautifully... everything from the cover art to the song writing to the theme and the promotion smacked off time and effort.

And that's what let Hard Candy down. Her writing input appeared minimal, the crafting of the music was done before she even sat down in the studio, the lyrics to many of the songs quite banal. Not every track on Confessions was a work of beautiful prose, but at least it was her sound.

She worked at Stuart's house for months; she was with Orbit in the studio constantly for Ray of Light. Hard Candy was the sound of a woman out of ideas forced to fill a contractual obligation.

Like others have said, I'd be happy if she disappeared for a while, re-grouped, and got her fighting spirit back. Let Gaga have her moment in the sun; let Kylie rip off Confessions, let Britney make another album that sounds just like the last three ... then come back Madonna and show them how it's really done.

  8. Beat Goes On was amazing and so was Dance 2night'

I would agree with that. But those tracks, 4 Minutes and Give It 2 Me do not make a great album.

Hard Candy was a half arsed effort, it did not sound like Madonna had put much work into it, and now she has basically admitted it.

I'm not expecting every album to be a Like A Prayer, Ray of Light or Confessions. But I do expect more from her than just recording other people's demos.
