  1. Oh I totally agree with some of that, Kim. I've said myself that the negativity can get too much. But that's tied up in one or two threads and it's only a few of the members.

There's no point in trying to be rational with people who aren't even willing to hear your point of view. Its fine if they disagree with me and others, but not when they aren't even willing to actually listen.

But like I said, that's just a few people. And deep down, they are just disappointed with Madonna. Granted, they choose to express it sometimes in a vitriolic way, but when you scratch beneath the surface, most of them just want to her to sell millions of albums and tour tickets. They are passionate people, just like MNation folk.

Some people have accepted her glory days are long behind her and are appreciating what she presents us with now. Others don't. But that's what I like about forums, the fact you can debate this kind of thing.

What frustrates me is the level of dislike between many members on both boards. And the ones who go over there to report on what goes on for here - and vice versa) just want to cause trouble for no necessary reason.

I think you did the right thing - decided Other Shore was not for you and left. I've done that with a couple of places in the past.

  2. I think you'll find I have defended MNation over there too when I found it necessary. Am I a Gaga fan? As a person and performer and regarding her videos, she irritates me and I find her patronising.

As a musician, I think she's made some cracking singles choices. So I am not a fan of hers, but I like much of her music.

I am defending the forum from random generalisations like those you have made. Much like I would expect you to defend MadonnaNation in similar circumstances.

9/10 people at The Other Shore are not slagging off Madonna. The ones who do are vocal. Others, including myself, choose not to participate in those conversations. Thus it appears there are more haters than there are.

  3. Buddy, you are tarring everyone with the same brush. You cannot generalise and say its full of bitchy queens. Of course there are some there, but then there are bitchy queens here too and on any other fan forum.

So therefore without knowing me, you're branding me a bitch too?

It's simple, if you don't like a place or the other people, then don't post there. I happen to like The Other Shore and I like MadonnaNation. Bashing each others forums in both places is ultimately futile.

  4. Unlike Sticky and Sweet which I hated in person and on DVD, I would happily see MDNA at an arena again. Am still shocked by how much I loved Give Me All Your ... and I Dont Give I. I'd pay full ticket price just to see Revolver again alone!

  5. Anyway it's silly to argue about, I guess I personally just have low patience threshold for the exaggerated brand of negativity that shifted over to The Other Shore years ago, so I'm automatically suspicious of comments like these from people who post full time on that gloomy happiness-vacuum of a forum

Thanks for the sweet comments about my mom guys :inlove:

    Hey 12:51,

I post on The Other Shore like Jimmy, and I'd like to point out it's not all negative opinion. Some people are very vocal about their criticisms of Madonna, which can be tireseome after a while. But they are allowed to say what they like because it's a forum with no censorship and people don't get chucked out for having a differing opinion. That said, it's not a gloomy happiness vacuum. There are plenty of us there who still enjoy Madonna and remain enthusiastic about her when she deserves it. Such a generalisation is like saying this forum is full of madonna loons. Yes, there are some, but they are not the majority.

In Jimmy's defence, he is one of the fairest and most balanced posters on both of these forums. He's a genuine fan, and I believe genuine fans should be able to point out the positives as well as the negatives. I believe every word he says about the Scotland gig because the guy doesn't lie or exaggerate. He has no need to.

Based on my Sticky and Sweet experience at Wembley stadium, I will never see Madonna again in a stadium. Bad sound quality, crap view of the stage... and those were the press allocated seats. It was awful. I'm glad I saw her in Birmingham last week despite the technical problems. For the most part, I loved the show.

  6. So.... finally got to see the gig at Birmingham NIA and I was very much impressed. I have barely seen any you tube of clips as I didn't want to know what to expect. For me, my fave gigs have been Blonde Ambition, Drowned World and Confessions.

And while it doesn't match up to those, for the most part, it's incredibly entertaining.

Opening Prayer /Girl Gone Wild 9/10

Incredibly dramatic opening, great choreography, gorgeous set... I don't really like the song, but in the context of the performance it worked well.

    Revolver 9/10

I'm biased as I'm in the minority of people who like this song for what it is - a great trashy pop tune. Fitted in perfectly with the theme, loved the backdrop screens, despite much of the audience not knowing this track, it went down a storm. Loved it.

    Gang Bang 5/10

Again, I still love this track, the performance felt flat. Her running around shooting a few blokes with a dull screen of bloody images behind her. It was only later in the show did she apologise that the whole motel set had broken. So I can only judge on what I've seen and I'm going to look on YouTube later to see what I missed.

    Papa Don’t Preach 7/10

Far too brief - a verse and a chorus and I think and then more performance than anything. Although the performance was darkly enjoyable. Just needed a bit more music than theatrics.

    Hung Up 7/10

WHile most of the Abba sample's been stripped from it, it did work nicely and a billion times better than the Sticky and Sweet version. Again, would have been nice had it gone on longer.

    I Don’t Give A 9/10

She strapped on the guitar again, which most of us don't like, but it wasn't too distracting. Dark, almost satanic like, lovely backdrops, huge, deafening finale. Fantastic.

Express Yourself / Born This Way 9/10

I must admit I was completely lost by the 'storyline' at this point and why she suddenly became a majorette. But it was fantastic to hear such a classic again, and not destroyed with some new mix. Real crowd pleaser.

    Turn Up The Radio 4/10

STraight forward guitar performance of a mediocre track. Not bad but no ideas behind it.

Give Me All Your Luvin’ 9/10

HATE this track big time. But a new mix stopped it being fluffy crap; fantastic dance routines, loved the drummers coming out of the sky... one of the most unexpected highlights of the night.

    Open Your Heart 7/10

Hmmm... one of my favourite Madonna tracks stripped down and with a melody changed. I enjoyed it, but wouldn't want this to be her new La Isla Bonita where she piles a load of immigrants together and makes them play orange boxes every tour. Nice finale to it. A good one off, now leave it alone luv or go back to the original.

    Masterpiece 8/10

Goregously sang, another unexpected highlight. Respect to the backing singers who gave it some oomph. Dull backdrop of WE clips though.

    Vogue 10/10

Again, very little dicking around with the original; sounded and looked as fresh as it did when it came out 22 years ago. Wonderful staging; couldnt take my eyes off it.

    Candy Shop 3/10

First time I sat down for the whole show. A dull version, uninterestingly staged, plodded on. Daft choice of song and fitted in nowhere. Better suited to Sticky and Sweet.

    Human Nature 4/10

The lull after Candy Shop really continued here. Boring performance, she struggled with the vocals and sounded a little out of tune to me. Another song that needs to go back in the loft.

    Like A Virgin 4/10

This stripped down version worked really well for the first verse and chorus. But unlike Papa Don't Preach where it ended prematurely, this dragged on for the whole song. Indulgent and killed off the pace of the night.

    I’m Addicted 6/10

One of my favourite tracks from MDNA, I couldn't help feel disappointed by the staging of this. But I have read there were technical issues with this too, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and check YouTube. It just lacked excitement. The arrangement was faithful to the album version though.

    I’m A Sinner 6/10

Not a huge fan of this song, but it was perfectly pleasant. More filler than thriller.

    Like A Prayer 10/10

Wowza. An extended version fo the Immaculate Collection mix. For those disappointed with the Sticky and Sweet version, this was fucking amazing. So great to hear a gospel choir on stage and for her to belt it out with all her might. Stunning.

    Celebration 8/10

What the song lacks in originality, it made up for in effort, staging and choreography. Benny Benassi's mix makes the song much darker, and after past concert finales, it lacked warmth. But it was juxtaposed by a colourful stage and tight choreography.

    Verdict

Who's That Girl was the first madonna gig I ever went to and I've seen every tour since. Sticky and Sweet was the first Madonna gig I left before the end.

MDNA is not one of the best, but it's far from terrible. Those of you who've only seen clips on the internet simply cannot judge it without being there. It has to be seen, and I'm sure its better in small arenas that stadiums.

The third quarter really lets the whole thing down, and it could have done with at least two of the MDNA tracks being replaced by oldies for a more balanced feel.

    But I thoroughly enjoyed it.

  7. Gang Bang is already 5 1/2 minutes so that's probably long enough as it is. I can't see Tarantino and Madonna making a wank fest like Telephone or Marry The Night, if its 12 minutes long it will be because it needs to be not for the sake of being "epic."

I imagine Lady Gaga decided she wanted the videos to be long before they even had any concepts, which is why they are shit and don't make sense.

Telephone wasn;t a wank fest. It was an epic, great, great video. Although it owed an awful lot to Tarantino.

  8. This has been coming for a while. She's basically pissed off too many people in the UK. The backlash probably started around the divorce.

Then there was the debacle at S&S Wembley stadium show with sound issues, ticket prices, (£160 to sit at

the back of a stadium, the late finish leaving people with transport problems. Next was the S$S O2 Arena shows when she came on late and got booed. (I was there

she got booed and it was uncomfortable). Again people left the show late. The media and general public perceive her to be old, arrogant, self obsessed and

not acting age appropriately - young boy friends, her dress sense, to much surgery, fillers etc. To be honest I don't think the

Graham Norton interview did her any favours. Many people feel she reinforced what a lot of general public think, that she is

rude and bitchy. I have read comments where people think the interview came across as awkward and her body language was terrible.

She needs to do some serious damage control if she is going to win back a lot the fans she has lost.

Sorry Mark, I often agree with what you have to say, but most of that is bollocks.

  9. As well as promoting her (hideous) new single, I think the Superbowl should be used as a reminder of how awesome Madonna has been. She should perform her biggest, most memorable hits with a fantastic stage show to prove to doubters and those who've not really listened to her stuff for a long timer that she still has the potential to be a powerhouse in the world of pop.

  10. Its like me telling you I dont like the way you have decorated your house, or the shoes you have bought. Its none of my business.

You haven't asked my opinion on your house or shoes, yet I criticise them.

I haven't asked for anyones opinion on whether I should interview this guy. Criticise him and his views all you want, but not my decision to interview him as I'm not interested.
