  1. I bet it was Lily Allen she seems really bitter

I was thinking the same because I'm sure she (Allen) mentioned this story on a radio show yonks ago if I recall. God knows where on when. Obviously her story was about the shoes but she didn't mention who. I remember something about the shoes. Now Tori tells the same story and mentions it was Madonna, not "the victim". Didn't think Allen was a fan or an arse licker... Strange.

  2. SO interesting about Beyonce's latest album. In a lot of European markets, including Ireland, and in Australia and New Zealand, the album didn't hit its peak position on the album charts until a couple-of-months after its release so it's not just a UK phenomenon. Not sure what's up with that. A fuck-up with initial promotion? I always thought her name was big enough to shift any old shit but perhaps she still hasn't established herself as a bankable substantial first week sales type of artiste outside America. I can't really think of any reason why the album has hit a new peak of #3. Halo's been out a while now and that Piccadilly Circus rehash of Single Ladies didn't even make a small imprint in the British press so I doubt the album spiked because of that; I heard about it on this forum and the novelty wore off after a minute-in. Though I still maintain that it's the most ICONIC video by any pop artist in at least five years.

RE Girls Aloud: Shame Untouchable is destined to be the Miles Away of GA's astonishing, and well deserved, chart run. Perhaps it will scrape the Top 10 but really they shouldn't be releasing any more than two singles per album from now on anyway. If it does rebound, the press might spin it to look like a bona fide "flop" but in all truth it really isn't. They're still the country's most popular girl band and with Lady Di keeping the band's name in the papers post-X Factor, I'm sure their next album will do just as well.

  3. I missed out this Anna quote:

one classic instead of one 'hard candy' track and that is it. spanish lessons is still there.

Then my bet is either "Get Stupid" or "Miles Away"- the tour starts in the UK so they might want to make everyone forget its flop chart performance. Can't see any of the other tracks being removed.

True. And Miles Away is tied up with connotations of Guy etc. so it will probably be removed.

  4. I don't know if Madonna would consider this, but what I would like to see on the next tour, is maybe cut back on some of threatrics, special effects etc. and make it more about the music and her band. That way her expenses would be lower, so she could charge a lower ticket price but still make the same amount of profit.

I guess some fans demand the elaborate staging, but I genuinely love her music and think she could do a tour that's more focused around just the music and maybe some great dancing.

I think she went as far as she could will all the super elaborate effects and staging, that there's no further way to go with that.

The only thing left for her to do is to really focus more around the actual music which is why we all fell in love with her in the first place.

That would also really allow people to appreciate her talent as a songwriter and a singer more, an area in which she has been very underrated in my opinion.

You know it's interesting... On one of the Youtube videos from the Cardiff show, some guy in the background talking to his girlfriend after La Isla Bonita, says, "There's too much show".

When you have something like "Doli Doli" included as part of a setlist just for the sake of theme continuation and theatrics, at the expense of other major hits which could have taken its place, it seems pointless. If you look back at Madonna's greatest moments on stage, sometimes the best performances are the most understated in terms of on-stage theatrics. Take LAV on BAT. Just a bed, a couple of dancers and a slowed-down version of a classic. The result was a pop cultural colossi. Same with You Must Love Me on this tour.

The car during Beat Goes On serves no real purpose, either does the boxing ring in the Die Another Day interlude. If she wants to continue making as much from lower-priced tickets, Madonna needs to make some CUTS.

These will probably be the Top 20 biggest sellers of this decade, give or take. Robbie Williams' chart trajectory is simply astounding, as is the fact only three American artists have racked up colossal sales this decade..

  6. I always prefer compilations to have a chronological track listing as it contextualises each song and flows better. But if WB are opting for a single-disc release, there's always the fear that the sequencing will be very similar to TIC, with a smattering of her post-Vogue work toward the end of the disc. It's a tricky one. There's no real consensus on what post-TIC tracks should be included on a single-disc compilation apart from a few essentials (namely ROL, Music, HU and 4 Minutes).

I vacillate between thinking JML and Erotica should be included (though the inclusion of both side-by-side would certainly kill the frantic pacing of the album) and then thinking I wouldn't actually mind if, in a chronological setting, ROL followed Vogue, bypassing any representation from Erotica or BS, accepting that the number-of-hits-per-album has become increasingly sparse. There's no point in including one song from Erotica, Bedtime Stories or American Life for the sake of representing their parent albums, like others have suggested, if the track doesn't match up to the sheer colossi of tracks like ITG or LAP.

And as much as I love it, I think that TAB would stick out like a sore thumb for non-American purchasers.

  9. Anyone got mid-weeks for this week?

And an interesting note: Someone over at Buzzjack has access to old Radio 1 playlists. I was surprised to see that the Club 69 remix of Nothing Really Matters was in fact on the A-LIST on Radio 1 for a number of weeks. She really was untouchable and "down with the indie kids" during this period wasn't she?

  10. I was really lucky my Icon membership runs out in April. I got great seats through Icon for CT. Not so good for Sticky and Sweet but a least a presale means you don't have to spend all day on Ticketmaster. Anyone think she will added a 3rd date at the O2 possibly 2nd July?

I would presume so, yes. There's no reason why not as it seems tickets are shifting but they're being very cautious this time around, announcing a new date only when the previous one has sold-out. Remember for RIT and CT, where they released four or five dates at once and you had choice for what night you wanted?

  11. AS OF NOW, tickets are still available at the official O2 website for Block B... But I'm surprised additional dates have yet to be announced. There's space on the 5th as well right before Manchester on the 7th. And I'm sure they could push forward and open the show there a little earlier too.

  12. lol It's crazy, I wish they would post the proper seating plan!

Kinda obvious, but just checking, the O2 show is floor seating, not standing, right?

I would PRESUME 02 is seating only. I've never been there, always wanted to see what it's like. I do have a soft spot for Earls Court and think the sound system and facilities are a lot better then Wembley (arena). The transportation system at Wembley Park is a joke, always has been. The area is a complete ghetto as well, I have no intention of ever going there again. I have heard good things about the sound system at 02 so am looking forward to it, even if it is a bit of a trek to get to coming from North London.

  13. Hi guys! I'm completely new to posting on here but have been viewinf the board for MONTHS...so interesting to hear everyone's thoughts!! Anyway, I saw M. on the opening night in Cardiff & I REALLY want to go again to Manchester, but the earliest I can get tickets is about 4pm tomorrow in the LiveNation presale....I was just wondering, based on past experiences, realistically, will I be able to get a good seat? I wanna be as close to her as possible but I get the feeling that the best tickets have already gone in the Icon sale! :(

    What to you guys think??

I'm actually quite upset at the moment...

Well, I'm gonna try LN presale but for 02. It seems the ICON presale has been throwing out Blocks B and C so there's a good chance you'll get something better in the LN presale. What do people think the chances of a subsequent 02/MEN date?

  14. I thought Alesha Dixon would have been dropped by now after the performance of her album but it seems she's hanging on (albeit by a thin thread). I was surprised that "Breathe Slow" has reached no. 6 on downloads alone but I see that it's been picked up by urban stations and is getting healthy rotation which might help to explain its success.

  15. so its confirmed she wont play in oz?

so shes bringing the tour back to perform in desolate refugee riddled countries? umm ok LiveNation.

Which countries are you referring to? How dare you insult Estonia. Don't you know Nicola Roberts from Girls Aloud is the Princess Diana of the Baltics? She will come and eat you

  16. I guess the whole second part of S&ST was planned in advance, but the Australian dates fell out as we heard in the press a month ago, so round 2 of the tour got relegated to Europe...

Mmmm... interesting. Perhaps you're right. As in she cleared her schedule to tour Australia this summer but the economy meant she's substituted the shows for Europe.
