    Culture

How will this affect traditional venues? Hollywood wants to keep filling theater seats, often with multisequel franchises. But box office receipts are slipping, and two of the biggest franchises are at an end. “Harry Potter’’ concluded last year. “Twilight’’ bids adieu in November.

With the music industry even deeper into the throes of declining sales, Madonna plans to visit Boston during her 2012 world tour, nearly three decades and a host of reinventions after her first album.

While her monumental success created a template for successors ranging from pop princesses to Lady Gaga, the outcome of this tour may say as much about us as it does Madonna and the perilous duet of commerce and culture.

“I was thinking about her followers, the Lady Gagas etc.,’’ said Lynne Layton, a psychoanalyst and assistant professor of psychology at Harvard Medical School who has taught Madonna as an academic subject.

“Madonna was kind of bad,’’ she said of the performer’s early career. “The girls I taught at Harvard, this wasn’t something they went to see with their mothers. This was rebellious. This was the sexuality of the preteen, which at that point was rebellious.

“There doesn’t seem to be anything bad in culture any more. Now, mothers go to see Lady Gaga. Something’s been tamed down. I want to know if Madonna has been tamed down.’’

  2. Take a look at this. I saw this list of GaGa's Road To Love Tour on facebook, it's the same as the one we are talking about right now, except stadiums are changed with arenas and a ton of dates is added. I think this is fake, because some of Madonna's dates have already been confirmed on her official site...Haven't they?

Madonna's Interscope-Live Nation Deal Worth $40 Million; Album Due Out in March

12:41 AM PST 12/15/2011 by Shirley Halperin

shareComments 4 The first release of the three-album deal will be a new single, "Gimme All Your Luvin," scheduled to hit the last week of January.

Madonna’s new album is finished and will be released in March 2012 on Interscope Records, the label and Live Nation Entertainment are expected to announce on Thursday morning.

Hitting Theaters Official: Van Halen Signs With Interscope RecordsIn 2007, Live Nation signed the superstar to a 10-year deal reportedly worth $100 million -- this portion of the commitment is being valued at $40 million, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

The Universal Music Group-owned label will release three albums by the Material Girl. Her first single, called “Gimme All Your Luvin,” is due out the last week in January (a demo of the song leaked in early November) just ahead of Madonna’s halftime performance at the Super Bowl on Feb. 5. Two days earlier, the film W.E., which Madonna directed and co-wrote, is scheduled to hit theaters.

The as-yet-untitled album is her first in five years. Madonna had been signed to Warner Bros. since 1982. Van Halen, another Warners act, also recently signed with Interscope, adding to an increasingly healthy stable of rock and pop artists who launched their careers in the 80s, which includes U2. Lady Gaga, who is often compared to Madonna, is also on the Interscope roster.

The multi-faceted "360" deal includes studio albums, touring, merchandising, fan club/website, DVD’s, music-related television and film projects and associated sponsorship agreements.

“We anticipate a very bright future at our new home,” says Madonna's longtime manager Guy Oseary in a statement being issued Dec. 15. Adds Jimmy Iovine, Chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M: "Very rarely does an opportunity like this come around. We would like to thank Madonna, Guy and Live Nation for their belief in us."

    Gene Simmons

    BLASTS Madonna --

    'Not Appropriate' for Super Bowl

Madonna has no business performing at the Super Bowl ... this according to legendary KISS frontman Gene Simmons, who thinks the game would be better off with a "real band."

Simmons was leaving Boa in Hollywood last night when we asked how he felt about Madge headlining the Super Bowl halftime show -- to which Gene sarcastically replied, "I love all karaoke singers, I love all the girl singers who get up and sing with tapes ... shame on you!"

Gene added, "By the way, Madonna's terrific ... I hate the tapes."

How to get on Madonna's stage crew and tour the Super Bowl stadium

Updated: Wednesday, 07 Dec 2011, 8:13 AM EST

    Published : Wednesday, 07 Dec 2011, 8:10 AM EST

    Staff Reports

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Central Indiana residents can get involved with the Super Bowl in ways that don’t involve buying a ticket to the big game.

Super Bowl planners say they’re trying to find 500 local people to be the stage crew for Madonna’s halftime performance. Fans can also for the first time access Super Bowl Media Day.

Officials say no previous experience is necessary to apply to be one of the 500 people helping with the Madonna performance. The people selected will help run the stage onto the field and perform other duties during the show.

Volunteers would be required to attend rehearsals and must be 18 or older. While the stage crew volunteers don’t get tickets to the show, they will remain in a database to possibly be asked to help with future NFL events.

To register to volunteer for the stage crew, click here .

Fans can also spend $25 per ticket to attend Super Bowl Media Day on Jan. 31. Tickets will give fans a chance to sit in the stands at Lucas Oil Stadium and watch as players interact with the media and take team photos in uniform. Fans will also get a gift bag that includes a radio to tune in to the day’s coverage on NFL Network.

Two other ways fans can have fun without going to the game include visiting the NFL Experience and participating in a Super Bowl stadium tour. The tours cost $15-$30 depending on the day and give access to the field, team locker rooms and other compounds created for the Super Bowl.

Stadium tours are $15 for Jan. 23-27 and Feb. 7, $25 for Jan. 28-30 and Feb. 1-2, and $30 for Feb. 6. There will be no tours on Jan. 31 and Feb. 3-5. A maximum of 35 people can be on a tour. Tickets go on sale Wednesday through Ticketmaster or at the Lucas Oil Box Office.

Madonna, a multi Grammy Award-winning Universal Records recording artist, will perform in the Bridgestone Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show on NBC on Sunday, Feb. 5, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, the NFL and NBC announced at halftime of Sunday night's game between the New Orleans Saints and Detroit Lions. Madonna's performance will be imagined by Cirque Du Soleil and Jamie King.

The Bridgestone Super Bowl halftime show is the most-watched musical event of the year. More than 162 million viewers in the U.S. watched last year's show. The Super Bowl and halftime show will be broadcast worldwide.

Madonna joins an esteemed list of recent halftime acts that includes The Black Eyed Peas, The Who, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and U2.

A world class entertainer, singer, songwriter, producer, director, and video visionary, Madonna has sold more than 300 million records in the course of her three-decade career as The Material Girl. She is a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee. Her last tour was the most successful tour by a solo artist in history. Madonna is currently in the recording studio working on a new album scheduled to be released next year. Her new film W.E., which she directed, wrote and produced, is opening in a limited one-week release Dec. 9 in Los Angeles and will open nationally on Feb. 3, two days prior to Super Bowl XLVI.

Madonna has partnered with a creative team from Cirque du Soleil, Jamie King, and multimedia artists from Moment Factory, to create a signature performance for the Bridgestone Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show.

This year marks the fifth time Bridgestone Americas has sponsored the Super Bowl halftime show. The tire company's new brand campaign, fittingly titled "Time to Perform," will debut during the game.

The Bridgestone Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show is an NFL Network production and will be executive produced by Ricky Kirshner and directed by Hamish Hamilton.

Let’s Hope This Awesome Song Is Really Madonna’s New Single

It looks like Madonna's new single, "Give Me All Your Love," leaked on the internet today, a few months ahead of schedule. It's not the worst thing, because the song really rocks.

As a long-time fan of Madonna (the second coming of Judy Garland and the first coming of Lady Gaga) and a card-carrying homosexual, I'm more than a little bit biased, but I would buy her upcoming album based on the strength of this song alone (you can listen to it below). OK, I would have bought it anyway, but now I'm really excited for it.

Sure there's a bit of the kitchen sink in the William Orbit track. It starts with some "Oh Mickey You're So Fine" spelling (didn't Gwen Stefani do this already) and devolves into some crazy 8-bit arcade theme music nonsense, but everything in between is catchy pop magic. It's the kind of thing that you can see playing in the best video montage of a movie about a smart girl who gets the guy and the great career all at once. I don't know how to describe how that sounds, but there you go. I would love to say that it's classic Madonna, except it's really not. It has a little tinge of "Ray of Light" about it (it is William Orbit after all) but it's a rethought, reimagined dance song. There's nothing more classic Madonna than finding yet another way to retool her image.

As Billboard points out the leak might speed up the plans to officially release the song, possibly as soon as later today or some time this week. The original plan was for her album to come out this spring and this song to precede it by a month or so, possibly in time for her Super Bowl half time show. Sure, it may be a long time before the album comes out, but I'll be happy to start hearing this on repeat in every gay bar I walk into until April. Shit, that's going to happen if the Material Girl acknowledges this song or not, so she might as well cop to it

Madonna, 'Give Me All Your Love' - Review First track from Madonna's forthcoming new album

    7.5

Album InfoRelease Date: March 5, 2012 Producer: William Orbit and Madonna Label: Live Nation Fact: Leaked demo Yesterday we gave our verdict on the leaked clips of Madonna's new single 'Give Me All Your Love'. Well now the whole thing has been unleashed.

In truth, some people have suggested that it's just a demo at this stage (M.I.A and Nicki Minaj are rumoured to feature on the final version). But to us it sounds just fine as it is.

It starts off non-typically enough with a Nicola Roberts styled "L-U-V MADONNA" cheerleader shout out, before we're zippily lead by co-writer and producer William Orbit in a polished 60s shake down. It's clear he's revisiting his past collaborations with the singer, with shades of 'Beautiful Stranger'and 'Amazing' abounding. There's also an echo of 'Ray Of Light' in the jet powered guitar line on the verse. The whole thing seems to soar effortlessly, especially in the context of her last album, the difficult-to-love 'Hard Candy'.

There have been criticisms that the bouncy lyrics ("Give me all your love/ Let's forget about time and dance the night away" goes the chorus) are neither befitting of the grande dame of disco nor are indicative of the type of lyrics she should be penning at this stage in her career. And I even wrote a blog a few months ago saying that she "needs to draw from the events that have affected her (divorce, adoption)."

Blah, blah, blah, frankly. Because what Madonna's doing in this song is so much more impossibly fun than we could have imagined that all of that talk seems unimportant.

By dodging cookie-cutter Gaga europop sound or the cold urban sound of 'Hard Candy', Madonna sounds like Madonna again, which is a reason to celebrate.
