Prim Manhattan real estate brokers tend to lack kind words for one another’s listings, but as word spread around town over the past week that Madonna had looked at 152 East 81st Street—which, according to today’s Post, she’s actually buying—the meanness was unparalleled.

In interviews with The Observer, three top brokers, including one at Sotheby’s International Realty, the firm that had the listing, described the mansion as horribly located and atrociously overpriced. “It’s one of the worst blocks in creation,” one said, referring to the un-chic strip of 81st Street between Lexington and Third avenues. “It might as well be on the moon in terms of a great townhouse location.”

The house itself, despite its width, is modest: “The woodwork is kind of ugly inside... It’s more informal and it’s not pretentious or overdone. Someone with a very good interior designer--it’s very tired, it’s almost in practically originally condition--could actually do some really good things with it."

In fact, according to one of those brokers, Brown Harris Stevens’ Wendy Maitland, who has long been associated with Madonna, discouraged the star from visiting the house. “She told her how ugly the block was, and Madonna didn’t really pay attention to what she was saying.” (Ms. Maitland did not return emails.)

Despite its 57-foot width, the mansion is actually two houses put together, those brokers all pointed out. On the other hand, the 26-room, 14-bathroom, 13-bedroom, nine-fireplace, four-story townhouse can't be all that bad: There are two garages, a 38-foot-wide drawing room overlooking a 3,000-square-foot garden and a formal dining room off the garden terrace, two kitchens, two pantries, two libraries, a wet bar, and a basement “wine cellar/grotto.”

Still, it’s not quite as majestic as the Harkness Mansion on East 75th Street and Central Park. According to one agent, Madonna also recently visited that 113-year-old, $49.95 million, 50-foot-wide limestone townhouse.

  2. "She's trying to recreate London in New York City, and this is in the style of a London townhouse."

But her new home in what brokers call the "Far East" does not appear to be all that much of a bargain.

No residence in that area "has ever sold for $20 million, let alone $30 million -- or ever will again," said one broker who asked not to be identified.

PAYS $40M FOR UPPER E. SIDE HOME

Looks like Malawi will have to wait -- Madonna is moving to the Upper East Side, The Post has learned.

Madge has signed a contract to buy a four-story, Georgian-style townhouse on East 81st Street for about $40 million, sources said.

That's some $5 million less than the original asking price.

"The townhouse is perfect for Madonna," according to one source.

The kaballah convert will also find the house has bad vibes -- specifically from the Lexington Avenue subway.

People inside the 26-room mansion can hear and feel the trains coming through, according to one visitor.

But on the plus side, the double-wide mansion does have a two-car garage, a 3,000-square- foot garden, nine fireplaces, an elevator and a wine cellar with a grotto.

And with 13 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms, it certainly has the space to accommodate Madonna's family, which -- at this point -- does not include even a semi-permanent replacement for ex-hubby Guy Ritchie.

While Madonna, 50, originally turned up her nose at the location -- between Lexington and Third avenues -- the home's style and garage proved irresistible, according to the source.

But it's not yet in move-in condition.

The Material Girl plans extensive renovations, along with major security upgrades.

To further reproduce her British lifestyle in New York, Madonna is continuing her quest for an English-style home in the horse country of the East End of Long Island or Westchester.

Madonna said she'd move to Malawi after a judge there ruled earlier this month that she could not adopt a second child -- Mercy James, 4 -- from that country because the singer had not lived there the required 18 months.

"Madonna has a big beautiful plot of land over there already," a source told The Sun newspaper in London.

"She's planning to build a girls school. But she's gone back to the designers and asked if they could accommodate a family home on the plot or on adjacent land."

She already has three kids, Lourdes, 12, Rocco, 8, and David Banda, 3, whom she adopted from Malawi in 2006 after a more sympathetic judge gave his approval.

Mercy Goes Into Hiding! Her Grandfather Speaks Out

Filed under: Madonna > Baby Blabber > Legal Matters

As we mentioned previously, Madonna's attempt to adopt little Mercy from Malawi was denied.

Mercy's biological father is now trying to get back into the picture. And it seems Madge isn't have any of it!

In fact, Mercy has now gone into hiding, apparently at the request of Madge, now that the biological father, 24-year-old James Kambewa, wants to get reunited.

Staff at the Kondanani children’s home are cooperating with Madge and Mercy is believed to have gone into hiding at a secret location with someone from the orphanage.

Mercy's maternal grandfather, Saxon Maunde, a poor farmer in Kondanani, also spoke about the biological dad Kambewa, who left Mercy's mom after she became pregnant at 15-years-old and he fled the town to avoid responsibility.

    Grandpa says:

"We cannot believe this boy is coming forward like this. We are very suspicious of his reasons, especially as he has caused our family so much heartbreak in the past. When my precious daughter became pregnant we were so disappointed with her. She had been doing well at school and we had to take her away from her studies. There was disgrace for us in the pregnancy, but this boy could have made things acceptable by marrying her and taking responsibility. Instead, he denied he was the father. He was a coward who ran away. When our daughter died after Mercy was born, this wretched boy sent no message of condolence. He is the last person we want to see now."

And Madge's attorneys in Malawi are fighting back, adding "We are more determined than ever to persuade the courts to let Madonna adopt Mercy. We have heard that a young man is claiming he is her father and wants the child, but he has not contacted us and we will not entertain his claims. As the father of an illegitimate child he has few rights and in our culture he is considered an outcast in society."

    So sad.

Madge's case is scheduled to be heard again on at the end of this month.

Mayor: Madonna promises $500,000 for quake relief

PACENTRO, Italy (AP) — The mayor of an Italian town damaged by Monday's earthquake says Madonna has promised $500,000 to help people in need.

Fernando Caparso, the mayor of Pacentro, the mountainside village where two of the pop star's grandparents were born, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that that he had spoken to the pop star's manager. He said he was deeply moved by Madonna's effort to assist the town as well as surrounding areas.

Pacentro, 100 kilometers (60 miles) from hard-hit L'Aquila, felt Monday's earthquake but didn't suffer major damage. Caparso said most of the donation would go to areas harder hit.

Liz Rosenberg, the pop singer's spokeswoman, said Madonna had pledged a "substantial amount," but didn't disclosed the exact figure.

When a devastating earthquake struck the Abruzzo region of Italy on Monday, the mayor of the hamlet of Pacentro made an appeal for help to the granddaughter of two former townspeople. The following morning, that granddaughter responded in a big way.

Madonna, whose paternal grandparents lived in Pacentro until 1919, made a "substantial donation" for the relief effort following the 6.3 magnitude quake that left more than 200 dead, says her publicist Liz Rosenberg. The rep wouldn't give the amount, but a source says it's about $500,000.

"I am happy to lend a helping hand to the town that my ancestors are from," Madonna tells PEOPLE. "My heart goes out to the families that have lost loved ones or their homes."

Italy: Quake-city mayor appeals to Madonna for help

Rome, 6 April (AKI) - The mayor of the small Italian town of Pacentro, launched an appeal to US pop-star and entertainer Madonna on Monday to help the town collect funds to help the people of the central region of Abruzzo affected by a devastating quake. Madonna's paternal grandparents lived in Pacentro until 1919.

"If Madonna used her popularity to bring world attention to the tragedy of the people of Abruzzo, it would be a beautiful thing. She would be lending us a helping hand," said Fernando Caparso, the mayor of Pacentro in an interview with Adnkronos International (AKI).

"Who would be better than her? A Ciccone, to help this part of the world," said Caparso, referring to Madonna's Italian last name.

Madonna's full name is Madonna Louise Ciccone

Pacentro "did not have any dead or injured residents, but only damages to old structures as well as the main church. However, there was so much fear, and we are now focused on helping our neighbours that have lost everything: This is why I ask Madonna to use her influence."

In 1987, Madonna visited Pacentro, where he met her cousins.

Monday's devastating earthquake in the mountainous Abruzzo region killed at least 92 people and injured 1,500 others.

The 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck the capital of the Abruzzo region, L'Aquila, as well as damaging 25 other cities including Pacentro and towns at 3:32 am local time. It was followed by a series of weaker tremors.

Between 3,000 to 10,000 buildings were reduced to rubble and L'Aquila's university hospital has been declared off limits amid fears it could collapse.

Between 30,000 to 40,000 people are said to have lost their homes.

Why Madonna Should Be Allowed to Adopt

Madonna, along with son David Banda, visit a Malawi orphanage last week. (AP)You may not agree (and in a poll taken here last Monday 60 percent of you disagreed) but I think Madonna should be allowed to adopt four-year-old Malawian orphan Chifundo "Mercy" James. At least based on all the available facts we have at this point.

On Friday, a Malawian judge denied the pop star's request to add another Malawian child to her family, saying she didn't meet an 18-month residency requirement. A devastated Madonna (and allegedly equally upset daughter Lourdes) returned to the U.K. Sunday, but not without filing an appeal.

And, critics of the adoption who cited her recent divorce from Guy Ritchie, her tabloid-ready lifestyle and an assumption of "celebrity entitlement" as reasons why the 50-year-old mother of three should not add another kid to her jet-setting household.

But now that Madonna's adoption prospects have moved from the realm of celebrity fast-tracking to a probably long legal battle over a very real child, has your opinion changed?

Beth Nonte Russell, writing in the L.A. Times, says Madonna's case is a high profile warning bell, alerting us to the increasingly difficult international adoption process. Children, Russell argues, kept in their home countries for well-intentioned nationalistic reasons often suffer long-term effects from being institutionalized for much of their young lives.

    Russell writes:

The questions that should be asked -- "Does a viable alternative to the orphanage exist for this little girl in Malawi, and does it exist now? Is there someone there who is willing and able to give her the love and care that is needed by all children?" -- are subsumed by ridiculous snarking about clothes and statements about what Madonna "should" do instead of adopting this child.

No matter the reasons that led Mercy James's family to turn their child over to an orphanage, the fact remains that she is living -- even in that orphanage -- at or below poverty level. Add to that the fact that her family knew there was a possibility that Mercy would be adopted into another home and that the adoption process has been in the works for 19 months. Why is Mercy James's grandmother, who accused Madonna of trying to "steal" her granddaughter, only speaking out now?

And, if this report from the U.K.'s Sun is to be believed, the four-year-old has already spent a significant amount of time bonding with Madonna and her other three children, leaving her confused and upset by their departure.

Save the Children's Sarah Jacobs argued against Madonna's adoption bid last week. High profile cases, like Madonna's and Angelina Jolie's, have helped to make international adoption a big business in some countries, she says. The solution, she insists, lies in getting communities, and whole countries, above the poverty level so families won't be forced to give children up to orphanages:

Families in the affluent world wanting to make a real difference to the lives of orphans can support aid agencies, such as Save the Children, that are working on the ground to get children out of institutions and support their families so they can live safely and well at home.

But with an estimated 150 million orphaned children worldwide, are donations -- or even policies -- enough to swiftly change the lives of these kids and, specifically, the life of Mercy James?

Has your opinion changed? I'm asking you to re-take last Monday's poll below.

Should Madonna be allowed to adopt again?

Madonna\’s lawyer set to appeal girlchild adoption decision

APA-Lilongwe (Malawi) US superstar Madonna’s lawyer, Allan Chinula, on Monday said that he would appeal to the court, asking it to reconsider a bid made by her client to adopt second Malawian infant named Mercy James, aged 3.

Chinula told APA in Lilongwe that although the high court sitting in the capital Lilongwe declined to grant Madonna the right to adopt the infant, he would consult his client on the best dates to file the appeal.

\"We are filing an appeal based on the first adoption (of David Banda) to the courts so that they should consider Madonna to adopt the second child,\" he said.

The court, through Judge Esme Chombo, argued that according to the laws on the Adoption of Children Act, Madonna could not adopt the child because the US entertainer was single and not a longtime resident of Malawi.

The act stipulates that an adoption order shall not be made in favour of any applicant who is not resident in Malawi or in respect of any infant who is not so resident.

Therefore, \"Madonna is not a resident. She only came in the country seven days prior to her application. We need somebody who has stayed here for 18 months,\" Chombo ruled.

But Chinula said this time around her client would make sure she would stay in the country for the said period.

Madonna left Malawi on her private jet Sunday.

(CNN) -- A judge who barred Madonna's second adoption from Malawi on Friday said she had "a gripping temptation" to approve the adoption, but decided doing so would open doors to child trafficking, court records show.

A judge rejected Madonna's adoption application on Friday.

The American pop star had filed a petition to adopt a girl, Chifundo James, 3. The rejection was based on a residency requirement and the judge's belief that the child was in good hands at an orphanage.

"There is a gripping temptation to throw caution to the wind and grant an adoption in the hope that there will be a difference in the life of even just one child," Justice E.J. Chombo wrote in a ruling.

"But removing the very safeguard that is supposed to protect our children ... could actually facilitate trafficking of children by some unscrupulous individuals." Watch why court refused adoption bid »

Chombo was referring to a residency requirement in Malawi law that requires people to live in the country for some time before adopting.

If Madonna was granted the adoption without established residency, critics argue it could open the door for others to adopt children and leave the country.

"Anyone could come to Malawi and quickly arrange for an adoption that might have grave consequences on the very children that the law seeks to protect," the judge wrote.

    Malawians support Madonna's adoption

Court papers provided to CNN also revealed that the judge considered the petition different from that of David Banda, whom Madonna adopted from Malawi in 2006.

David "was to be returned to his biological father within a period of six months from the time that Mchinji Orphanage had admitted him," Chombo wrote.

"This is the same father that had desperately appealed for help after the death of his wife because of his incapacity to look after David and the unwillingness of wife's family to care for the child."

In the case of Chifundo, the orphanage taking care of her was able and willing, according to Chombo, who did not handle the first adoption. Court records show her 14-year-old mother died days after her birth.

The ruling followed weeks of criticism by human rights activists, who accused the mother of three of using her fame to circumvent a residency law for foreigners adopting in the country.

Save the Children UK had also urged Madonna to let the child be raised by her relatives in her home community.

The denial was applauded by a coalition of local nonprofits.

"Inter-country adoption is not the best way of providing protection to children ... supporting children from outside our country only helps five of the 1.5 million orphans we have," said Mavuto Bamusi, the national coordinator of Malawi Human Rights Consultative Committee.

Malawi government officials said Thursday that they supported Madonna's second adoption.

The recently divorced singer was married to British filmmaker Guy Ritchie. She has been involved with Malawi for several years and made a documentary, "I Am Because We Are," to highlight poverty, AIDS and other diseases devastating children in that country. She also co-founded a nonprofit group, Raising Malawi, which provides programs to help the needy.

Madonna's lawyer has filed a notice to appeal the ruling with the Supreme Court, according to Ken Manda, high court registrar

  11. Madonna’s Charity: ‘Delinquent’

After all that spin about Madonna donating millions to save Malawian children, it turns out the State of California has her labeled as “delinquent.”

According to California’s Attorney General’s office, Madonna’s Ray of Light charity is ‘delinquent’ after years of being up to date. The filing indicates that Ray of Light Foundation was last renewed on June 23, 2008 and is set to have its license expire on May 14, 2009.

Even stranger: Ray of Light’s most recent Form 990 filed with the IRS has been wiped off the publicly-accessed Guide Star website for registered charities and foundations.

The filing, delivered in 2008 for 2007, which I reported in this column last December 30th. It showed that Madonna had given no money to Raising Malawi, the charity she started in 2006 with Michael Berg and other principals of the Kabbalah Center in Los Angeles.

However: Madonna did donate $2.6 million straight to the Kabbalah Center itself.

It’s rare that a foundation or charity removes a Form 990 link to Guide Star for any given year. GuideStar automatically posts every new filing as soon as they’re available.

All of this has something to do with this morning’s news that the Malawi court denied Madonna’s petition to adopt four year old Mercy James and take her out of the country.

Here’s a link to one document that may have influenced the court’s decision:

    http://www.hrccmalawi.org/madonnastatement.pdf

All hail the Malawi judge who was wise enough to put a stop to this nonsense. Madonna can no longer satisfy her ego by making Malawian children her souvenirs. She’ll have to take home t-shirts and woven baskets, just like everyone else.

And it’s not like Madonna isn’t a good mother. One look at teenage Lourdes and you can see she’s done a good job. Same for Rocco, her son with Guy Ritchie: he’s described by friends as a “great kid.” Of course, Lourdes and Rocco each have active fathers – Carlos Leon and Ritchie, respectively. Madonna’s adopted Malawi son, David Banda, lost Ritchie to divorce a year after meeting him. He’s also endured her reported affair with Yankee baseball player Alex Rodriguez and has since spent time with Madonna’s 21-year-old Brazilian boy toy, Jesus Luz.

It’s not that Madonna’s “stable” family has changed since she acquired little David. Some kind of disconnect has occurred in Madonna’s thinking when it comes to the country of Malawi and its orphans. Taking them home to America or Britain isn’t going to solve the problem of poverty.

Most of us have never been to Malawi, a country that Madonna has depicted as so poor that she must remove its children for their safety. She’s burnished this image so completely that yours truly was surprised to meet a group of Malawi businessmen on a flight in Zambia two years ago. These well-spoken gentlemen were on their way to a weekend retreat – just like businessmen all over the world.

I asked them, What about Madonna and her adoption of little David Banda?

The man sitting next to me said, “We wish she’d stop kidnapping our children.”

The fact is, as the linked document from the Malawi HRCC shows, Madonna could just as easily help Mercy and even David not by taking them home, but by writing checks to help them and all Malawi children on the spot.

    By Adam, April 3 2009

Madonna is said to be "furious" after a judge in Malawi denied her bid to adopt 4-year-old orphan Mercy.

Despite the Material Girl hitmaker's lawyer being confident everything would go to plan, Madonna was told she could not take the tot back with her to her home in America because she was not a permanent resident of Malawi.

The ruling said, "Put simply courts do make law by the process of precedence and Miss Madonna may not be the only international person interested in adopting the so-called poor children of Malawi.

"By removing the very safeguard that is supposed to protect our children the courts by their pronouncements could actively facilitate trafficking of children by some unscrupulous individuals who would take advantage of the weakness of the law of the land.

"Anyone could come to Malawi and quickly arrange an adoption that might have grave consequences on the very children that the law seeks to protect.

"Having considered this then, at the end of the day I must decline to grant the application for the adoption of the infant CJ."

Sources close to Madonna said she was "spitting blood" after the judge defied the Malawian government to deny the adoption.

Although more than 100 rights groups accused Malawian authorities of giving Madonna special treatment, the country's government, which came under fire after Madonna adopted David Banda, said on Thursday it would support a second adoption.

The judge said, "According to information from global media the petitioner jetted into the country just days after making the application.

"I take judicial notice of the reports in the media that the last time that the Petitioner was in the country was in 2008 at the time of the final adoption order for David Banda.

"In my considered opinion this would completely remove the Petitioner from the definition of a resident as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary."

  13. Madonna traveling in Malawi before adoption ruling

By CELEAN JACOBSON – 32 minutes ago

LILONGWE, Malawi (AP) — Madonna is traveling inside Malawi ahead of a judge's ruling later this week on her efforts to adopt a little girl there.

Reporters saw the 50-year-old pop superstar's convoy making its way from the exclusive lodge where she is staying to the airport Wednesday afternoon.

Madonna's three children are in the southern African country with her, including 3-year-old David who was adopted from Malawi. It was not immediately known whether the family boarded the plane with her.

On Tuesday, Madonna confirmed she is trying to adopt a girl named Chifundo "Mercy" James, who is about 4 years old.

Critics have accused Madonna of using her fame and money to speed the process but the pop star said she has followed standard procedures.

reunion: Madonna allows adopted son David to meet his real father in Malawi

Madonna's adopted son David was reunited with his biological father yesterday for the first time since the toddler left Malawi with the singer in 2006.

Yohane Banda met his child at 7am at the Kumbali Lodge where Madonna and her family are staying.

But the peasant farmer, who gave David up for adoption when his wife died weeks after childbirth, revealed his son did not recognise him.

'He asked me who I was,' Yohane said after the scheduled meeting, which lasted two-and-a-half hours.

Reunion: Yohane Banda (L) holds his biological son David's hand as he is cradled by adoptive mother Madonna on Monday

'When I told him "I am your daddy" he looked surprised.'

Mrs Wilo, an official from Madonna's Raising Malawi charity, acted as a translator between David and Yohane, who does not speak English.

Yohane continued: 'It's amazing how David has grown; I can't believe he is the same small and sickly baby we left at Home of Hope.

'He seems to be a polite boy for he asked if he could sit on my lap. Then he started playing with my nose; I don't know why.

'He is quite chatty and intelligent. He asked me lots of questions about lots of things. He asked me whether I ride horses.

Getting to know you: Yohane smiles as his son plays on Madonna's lap

'I told him horses are for the rich and he asked me why I am poor.

'He told me his mum likes riding horses and that he too rides horses.

'The he told me a story when one day he and his brother, Rocco, rode horses and fell. He told me his mum spanked him because they are not supposed to ride horses on their own.'

Yohane revealed how David spoke warmly of his adoptive parents.

'He told me his mum plays music and asked me what I do for life,' he said.

'I told him I was a farmer. He asked what a farmer does and I explained to him that we use hoes to till the land.

Special visit: Madonna, pictured here with son David and daughter Lourdes, arranged for the toddler to spend time with his biological father

    in Malawi yesterday

'He told me his daddy, Mr Ritchie, took him to a farm but it had a tractor. I told him in Africa we use hoes.'

Yohane, who has since married a new wife, Flor, and now has a young son, Dingiswayo, said he was disappointed to learn of Madonna's divorce from Guy Ritchie.

'He seems to like his daddy, Mr Ritchie, so much that I was a little sad Madonna broke up with him.

'I would have loved it if they sorted out whatever problems they had instead of divorcing because divorce is bad for kids.'

Yohane lost two sons prior to David's birth and says he is relieved Madonna is taking care of the toddler.

'I was very happy to meet David again. He reminds me of the two sons I lost in infancy.

Just like mum: David emulated his pop star mother

'I sometimes shudder to think that David could also have met the same fate had Madonna not adopted him. I am really grateful to her for saving David from possible early death.'

Madonna and her two other children Rocco, 8, and Lourdes, 12, also met briefly with Yohane.

'She just greeted me and told me about David's school. She is a sweet lady,' he said.

'She told me David was clever at school. She then told me the children needed to take a bath because they were preparing to go out.'

Later that day, Madonna took her children for a tour of the Mphandula child care centre built by Raising Malawi about 30 miles from the capital of Lilongwe.

On tour: Madonna took her family, including son Rocco who was sporting a new Mohican, to visit a child care centre built by her charity Raising Malawi

The singer and her family arrived in the impoverished African country on Sunday and she is hoping to leave with a new addition to her brood - four-year-old Mercy James.

A judge will rule on Friday whether the 50-year-old should be allowed to adopt a second child from the country.

Mercy was placed in an orphanage after her 18-year-old mother died five days after her birth.

It was reported that her father was a schoolboy and it is not clear whether he is alive.

Madonna's determination to adopt Mercy was said to be a major cause of conflict between her and Guy, who was opposed to the idea.

Last year, he was said to have relented but soon afterwards the couple separated.

IT'S back on again: Madonna is expected to tour Australia in September.

Now the dust has settled on her divorce, her Madgesty confirmed on her website yesterday she was extending the Sticky And Sweet world tour, The Daily Telegraph reports.

While the official statement confirms she is "looking forward to an amazing summer in Europe", prospective concert dates in Japan and Australia were leaked on her international promoter's site before being quickly pulled.

But not before they were sighted by eagle-eyed fans, who posted the dates on fan blogs.

The leaked itinerary featured four Australian concerts with Madonna scheduled to perform at Sydney's ANZ Stadium on September 26.

A Madonna show at Melbourne's Telstra Dome has been pencilled in for September 29 and is tipped to be confirmed this week.

The Telstra Dome date - a Tuesday - would not clash with the venue's AFL commitments.

Fans may have to shell out $150 for the cheapest seats, given the falling Australian dollar and Madonna's high production costs.

Seats closest to the stage could sell for as much as $400.

The website also listed shows in Brisbane and Perth, as well as Europe and Japan, before being swiftly removed.

The last time Madonna performed in Australia was for the 1993 Girlie Show tour at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Also leaked and then removed from the same Live Nation website were details of the next leg of Britney Spears' world tour - and it looks like the comeback pop princess and Madonna will both be in Australia in September.

Spears was slated to perform three concerts at Sydney's Acer Arena - right next door to the ANZ Stadium where Madonna is booked.

While their proximity would fuel a frenzy of speculation about cameos at each other's shows, it is unlikely Madonna or Spears' jam-packed schedules would allow for an Australian duet.

Local fans and promoters have been willing the dollar to improve to safeguard Australia as a must-do destination on the international touring circuit for the huge stadium acts.

With sales of more than 400,000 tickets for more than 40 shows, Pink has singlehandedly demonstrated that music fans here are determined to be entertained despite hard economic times.

Rock fans remain optimistic that AC/DC, Bruce Springsteen, Metallica and U2 also add Australian legs onto their international tours this year.

  16. Madonna might perform at Usce

Foreign music sites have been swamped with unofficial information that Madonna might continue her “Sticky & Sweet” tour in summer, within which she will most probably perform in Belgrade on the 26th of August at Usce.

According to unofficial information, several domestic promoters have been negotiating about the possible arrival of the pop-queen in Serbia, while literally all Madonna’s fan sites have confirmed her concerts in summer (July and August) in Milan, Marseille, London and Belgrade. Namely, Madonna wants to continue her very successful “Sticky & Sweet” tour in order to visit the cities where she hadn’t performed last year. However, it shouldn’t been taken for granted, since the continuation of her tour hasn’t even been officially confirmed so far. It should also be taken into account that Madonna doesn’t usually continue already finished tours. It is also a well-know fact that she doesn’t have many-year tours with 100-200 concerts like her colleagues, such as the bands U2 or “The Rolling Stones”.

To remind the readers, Madonna started her “Sticky & Sweet” tour on the 23rd of August in 2008 in Cardiff and finished it on the 21st August in Sao Paulo. She performed on the 25th of September last year at Jaz Beach near Budva and delighted about 40,000 visitors. At first it was announced that she would have a concert in Belgrade, but after much speculation, the capital of Serbia didn’t have a chance to organize the concert, since Budva offered more money. If we don’t take into account the bad organization and crowd after the concert at Jaz Beach, Madonna’s concert was excellent and the singer proved to have been in top form even at the age of 50.
