I've actually advised Casey to get in touch with Tony Shimkin, who, as we know now, was screwed over by Shep Pettibone and robbed of royalties for most of his work on "Erotica".  When Madonna found out, she ensured that he was looked after (and he said that if she'd known what was happening at the time, she wouldn't have allowed it, since she's very big on ensuring that credit is given where it's due).  Casey agreed that 15% was a fair representation of his input (so the demo he's posted of the first verse of the track is likely his entire contribution to the song), and by his own admission, record sales don't make anyone any money these days, so now he's decided he wants touring royalties, too.  Since he's been offered full credit for his 15% contribution, he WILL receive money from the tour - but it will only amount to 0.75 of whatever the royalties paid to the songwriters involved in the 20 songs that are performed (i.e. each song will receive 5% of those royalties, and 15% of 5% = 0.75%).  He's done himself no favours by taking it public.

And there you have it. Said way better than I ever could.

Madonna's touring CASH comes from MERCH sales...and no one else gets a taste of that.

  2. "this is a Mirwais problem that's become a Madonna problem."

That pretty much sums it up. And Mirwais says he told her and she says he didn't - I'm inclined to believe Madonna, who is fair in publishing and royalties with other artists her entire career. I've noticed Mirwais seems a bit out of the loop post-album and now we likely know why. This is the norm in music/songwriting circles when collaborations and language corrections create derivative versions, etc. From what I read, Madonna has, of course, been ultra professional and actually fair regarding offering compensation.

It seems now that Spooner sees the $$$ even she's making from just the song is not enough for him and he wants MORE. He wants that live cash, which falls outside the norm for this type of agreement. And so he's taking it public, hoping to embarrass her into paying him more money. It's all kinda gross. Hope it gets resolved.

I see no issue with Madonna in this situation. She's doing her thing and not fucking anyone over. Hello Mirwais.

You’re so overdramatic, it’s ridiculous. All I asked for was for you to back up your claim that it was a “so-called visual album.” You can’t, got it. Do you ever get tired of complaining? Because we’re tired of reading your moaning about magazine covers FIVE months after the fact.

We got nineteen new songs, five music videos, and a critically-acclaimed tour. Her artistic passion is unmatched and we’re beyond lucky that she’s so engaged nearly 35 years into her career. What a waste of energy to continually bitch about the commercial aspect of this inspired project.

Thank you from everyone for calling out the insanity. Because that's what it is, insanity.

Her PR is a disaster, she barely promotes and goes right into tour rehearsals and forgets she released an album

I mean, knowing radio won't play her new stuff, why didn't she herself pay for a radio deal for Medillian, why didn't she do more performances or promo?  Why didn't she have a popular TV series, movie or commercial use the song ?

That fire is long gone, been gone since Confessions

Shit management, non existent PR, legacy severely damaged the last 10 years etc

    FIRE GUY

    FIRE GUY

    FIRE GUY

Go back to a REAL record label too

Her goal isn't Grammy awards and acclaim. We got 5 amazing videos and actual promotional strategy until the tour. It SUCKS she doesn't get accolades but it's likely she never will again. She knows this. I'd hate to see her campaigning. If Bruce isn't getting nominated there's no way she will. That ship has sailed for now.

Madonna makes the decisions, so hating Guy is fine but really. She just put her music on Stranger Things and it did exactly what it was supposed to do...promote her to new audiences. It wouldn't have made any Madame X song more of a hit.

The Best Albums of the 2010s: Madonna’s ‘Madame X’

Madonna’s radically adventurous and globally-inspired Madame X polarized fans and critics for good reason. It’s her least accessible album, but it’s also up there with the best she’s ever made. Including language barriers (“Medellín”, “Faz Gostoso”), disparate musical genres (“Crave” vs. “Batuka”), and lyrics that ignite controversy (“God Control”, “Killers Who Are Partying”), Madame X was not for the casual Madonna fan that rolled their eyes at the Hebrew vibes of “Isaac” on 2005’s Confessions on a Dance Floor. Years from now, we’ll look back on Madame X as the Madonna album that’s most closely aligned with the real Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone, and one of her most artistically audacious and authentic offerings.

Can someone explain to me who Mae Couture is. Is it a designer of fashion/clothes or art/print? Why is the handmade hat worth $400?

Sure she has collabrated with M primarily for Madame X but it/she does not have a big presence in the fashion world from what I can tell.

She is an artist who paints/draws, etc. She's fantastic.
