  1. There was a video for Holiday - the Solid Gold performance was distributed and is still shown, certainly in Europe. And videos are essential. People go straight to youtube now to see and hear a new song. Look how many hits the 4 Minutes video got - it was huge. However, Miles Away had no video and anyone posting there own had them removed by Warner's. Probably her worst performing single ever. With little outlet on the main stream channels to see music performances and MTV etc devoting themselves to reality TV or old videos, places like youtube are essential for viral spreading of songs. A video is essential - a montage as good as She's Not Me would work well although an original one would be much better as the video montage idea has been done by her several times now.

The Solid Gold performance is not an official video for the song. There has been much talk of several videos for the song and one supposedly being official, but nothing was officially commissioned as one.

I don't really see the point of a montage. No video channel in the U.S. will play a video montage. She has more of a chance to have an original video played though. But that's a big stretch.

  2. I don't think lacking a video is a bad thing. Of course, we'd love to see a video as fans, but to be truthful, the ship has sailed in terms of music videos being creative and important. Radio has returned with a vengeance and murdered the video star. Look at all of todays superstars, the videos aren't that well-known, it's not like it was 20 years ago when videos and the songs went hand in hand. A lot of people who love Boom Boom Pow or Poker Face have never even seen the videos.

I have to agree. The videos have simply become a back seat to the songs now. It'll probably take a stellar stand out video to bring back the passion for video making again.

  3. I think Like a Virgin would be the song that the masses would most associate with Madonna.

But I think a video is a must. People need to see that she's still hot and can work it.

Oh, I don't disagree. But I think the more friendlier and fun song that is in association would be "Holiday". As mentioned "Like A Virgin" comes off more of a novelty song.

As for a "video"... I am not sure anymore? But I agree that the song just being released in hopes for radio exposure isn't going to be enough. Radio isn't going to play it no matter how great it is. So we can only hope WB kicks into gear and really pushes it. Furthermore, we can only hope that the song is such a kick as song that the masses demand for radio play.

  4. I don't understand why there won't be a video. I mean, she recorded new songs so it seems like she really cares about the project. But, no video?

I don't know? There was no official release for "Holiday" and that became a Madonna anthem. Hell, it never cracked the top spot, but I get the feeling it's the one song EVERYONE knows of Madonna. It's a very popular song. So maybe, they are trying to duplicate that success with "Celebration"? I don't know? Also, videos do not have the same impact anymore. I really don't see a montage being something video stations will play (whenever they do play videos). And I don't see it being a very popular video on the internet.

WB needs to make sure they push this single. Radio won't play it if WB just releases it without a big push. And maybe Madonna will add it to her show as a full song before she finishes up the leg of this tour?

I'm excited though. I can't wait to hear the new song.

  5. Mediabase's latest info musti nclude the Delilah info- "Cherish" already shows a gain in the latest update (260 spins, compared to 185 one week ago).

At this point last week, TUTBMP had 1 spin; now, it has 89.

It's nice to see PDP getting higher airplay these days; it used to average 60-70 spins a week; when I do the Monday updates, for the last several weeks, it's been in the 115-140 range. It's a classic, but topically, not really a track you'd think would get a lot of recurrent play.

LAV- despite being one of her biggest hits- doesn't get anywhere near the level of play that the others do. Maybe it has to do with some seeing it as "novelty," despite its classic status. Same goes for MG, though that gets more play lately than LAV.

MG comes off quite "novelty" to me as well, so I am surprised it gets airplay. I don't listen to radio much anymore, but any stations that do play Madonna in my neck of the woods, it's usually the old songs like "Borderline", "Holiday", "La Isla Bonita" and "Like A Prayer".

And to tell you the truth, and as much as I love "La Isla Bonita", I remember back in the day that song wouldn't probably be a stand out classic from her. Boy, was I wrong about that and I'm sure it helps that Madonna always performing it.

  6. Sorry. Didn't realize you were such a big fan of "We are the world." I should've been more sensitive.

Has nothing to do with being a "big fan" of the song/project. It's all to do with almost every post you make, you have to always add something negative. Oh but wait... I get it.. You're just "joking" or maybe I just need to "lighten up". Always the same excuse/justification. :manson:

Sorry, but I'm fine! I'm not the one who keeps purposely inserting negative connotations in all of my posts.

  7. Was she not at the AMAs, perhaps?

Or maybe she just heard the song beforehand...

always ready with a dig aren't ya...:confused:

In any event, she was indeed invited, but there is no way of knowing why she didn't do it. What I do know is that she had a lot of other things going on at the time. She had a number of singles that year coming out. I also suspect she was preparing for her tour as well. Maybe her management suggested it could have been "overkill", but I can't imagine a charity event like this would matter? There were a lot of popular artists who were among that song.

  8. If it is, then it's quite good but hardly a departure for her - which I suppose is the point for a GH single.

To my ears it sounded like the original "Holiday" meets "Get Together" - which is funny cause everyone said "Get Together" was a "Holiday" homage at the time.

Well, isn't it? Maybe that wasn't its intention, but it sure sounds like an offspring to me. A true homage of old school Madonna dance/celebration songs.

We can only hope "Celebrate" will stand on it's own because if it is tied to one of her classics, it will probably be dismissed.

  9. You're right. Most GH are nothing special. But we are talking about Madonna here. She has a back catalogue second to none really. This IS her last project with WBR. Why shouldn't she put effort into this? It is her legacy. I am thrilled we get some new music but I want it to be GOOD new music. If it is trash, what's the point? I know plenty of casual/non-fans that will buy a career spanning GH from her.

I think his point was... why come at it from a negative perspective? Why not just enjoy the fact something new is coming? Why speculate it's demise? Seems pointless at this point since no one has heard it yet. Other than the claims, it's infused in "Holiday" (which no one can really clearly identify), no one knows what it sounds like .

"Celebration" kinda makes sense here, especially if it's going to feature her biggest hits to date. She went into WARNERS "celebrating", so why not go out the same way?

  10. Anyone know if there is a torrent of this yet?

Yes! Not sure if it's the same file from Absolumentmadonna, but it is an AVI @ 1.2 GB (actually it says 1.1 GB for me).

I had to register an account to access it. It was easy. Downloaded the whole thing within a couple hours time. Very nice. Audio is in sync. Video is really good quality. NOT HD, but before HD came along, people wouldn't even bat an eye at this. This will certainly do until the DVD or an HD version comes along. And if neither came along, I think most everyone would be satisfied with this.

  11. Exactly goldtooth.

I love songs like Drowned World, Get Together and Oh Father more than some of her biggest hits. It's not about what I love. It's a career retrospective and should reflect her career of HITS. It's that simple. The thought of another GHV2 and songs the casual buyer has never heard of makes my stomach churn. This GH could define how she is remembered, same as TIC did.

I have to agree with what you said here and the previous post you made. At this point, I cannot see any GREATEST HIT package that will appeal to Fans who have all her albums, singles and compilations unless new track are added. So, I agree the GH should be about reaching further than just the fan base. It should reach to all those casual or non-fans who enjoyed a number of her hits. None of these people want songs like "Oh Father", "Drowned World" and "Bedtime Story", etc. These are songs that most won't recognize or care to listen to.

And in the age where we all can make our own "GREATEST HITS" compilations, I can't see even a hits collection going to sell well unless it includes new tracks and/or alternate versions yet released to the public.

Personally, I rather this time around to have a 2 or 3 disk set... maybe with a DVD, that includes her biggest hits, maybe some rare outtakes, and the new songs. But again, a set like this will be too expensive for casual and non-fans, so maybe an alternate 1 disc set of only her biggest hits should be released with the new tracks.

  12. ur making it sound like giving labor

setting up a ripped file for p2p sharing takes minutes

Actually, he didn't. It's just people are making these demands. It's quite ridiculous. People rip programs, DVD's, shows off television, etc., because they can and want to. Not every one is that savy with the computer.

That said; I am surprised nothing has come about by now. There are some TV shows I download through torrents which are put up by the next day. They are always in HD.

  13. I can't understand why someone would put so much effort and emphasis on trying to find out if someone's vocals were polished during a concert. Let alone, someone who they are clearly a big fan of.... The concert is amazing. Can't we leave it at that. What kind of fans are we? lol

i just dont understand it. Maybe I'm the one with the problem..who knows. lol. Enjoy the show

Actually, I agree. But there isn't really much of "trying to find out". It's quite obvious. And like you, I really don't care. I just know some people get all uptight about it being messed with. And if it isn't, then we have people complaining she sucks. Duh?? Madonna has never been the best live vocalist. I became a fan because of her over all entertaiment, not just her live vocals.

  14. So, with "Borderline," they basically took a new studio-recorded vocal and used it for the broadcast/DVD. The youtube link is off- for those who watched it live, did the vocals for that one at least match up to her mouth movements? With LS on the Confessions DVD, there's one instance where you can plainly see her mouth movements are off with the studio-recorded vocal that wasi n used in place of the actual vocals from that night.

Some parts of the new vocal sound like they could have been from the actual concert (the "growls")- but for the most part, she sang it kinda quiet and sweet in the studio.

I agree. It sounded like the dubbed in alternate vocals in. They weren't polished. I'm sure they did it to give a more live effect to it. And yes, I noticed the growls were in there like in most of the performances.

I only saw the broadcast version on-line. Video wasn't very good. So it was hard to tell if anything matched up. But what I can tell, it looked like they did a very good job polishing up her vocals on all her songs without overdoing it. Borderline was the most noticeable to me. They dubbed in a more subtle softer voice in for her.

I don't mind that they polished up her voice. It still is far different from the originals. And if they left them "as is", we'd hear fans bitching how awful she sounded. So there is no "win win" here.

I'm just amazed they can dub in these vocals and pretty much pull it off as if she's actually singing them at that event.

  15. of course she is gona look a little less skinny at the start of the tour....each show is a work out - you know shes gonna look much skinnier towards the end of the tour.

and i was there last nite front row at the barrier....it was soooo much better than the first leg of thr tour....U americans are missing out big time!

I think the difference is not so much she's not as "skinny". It's more like she bulked up regarding gaining some muscle definition. Those legs look much bigger than I remember her in a long time. Much of that looks like muscle. Then again, it could just that in film/pictures the lens is making her bigger than life.

I think she looks fantastic. She's hot!!

  16. I think "Holiday" works good in this section just as "Frozen" does in its new home. However, this reinvention of "Holiday" seems somewhat lackluster to me (aside from the totally bitchin' MJ tribute).

Well, to be fair... the audio is pretty crappy in that YOUTUBE link, so it's hard to tell. But yeah, it doesn't seem to have the same "punch" as her previous concert versions had.

Now, I'd love to see and hear DRESS YOU UP as well.

  17. Her ass has CERTAINLY toned up:

Front ain't so bad either: ;)

It is just the pics or is her thighs humongous here?? In fact, she looks quite thick all around the edges. Not to say, she doesn't look good. She does! In fact, looks like all muscles. I just don't recall her thighs looking so big!!!
