  1. Well, it wasn't simply a random audience that was surprised Madonna was going to be there. Obviously, a lot of fans showed up. What do you expect? It's not like the front row concert stiffs who can afford the high priced tickets showed up.

But of course, an excellent appearance. I guess technically it was her first appearance at that studio, but Madonna did appear on her show back in '06 when interviewed her during her Grammy appearance.

  2. Madonna is very capable of scoring another hit. A top ten hit even. Why are you people writing her off? If she proved us wrong at 40 and 50, why not now? And although GMAYL wasnt a major hit it still gave her another top ten hit.

You know what? No one is ruling out that possibility. No one is "writing her off" here. But you need to be realistic as well. She is getting very little backing from any mainstream radio or media source. Also, she hasn't a proper record company anymore to back her up like she had with Warners. Those are two big key components in gaining a top 40 hit or higher. The reality is that the likely of her getting a huge hit at this period in her career, is very slim. Of course, I'm not saying it's impossible, but you do realize that GMAYL was simply a payola effort. That song wouldn't have gotten top ten status if there wasn't a deal for the song to be played that first weekend on major radio stations. Unfortunately, once the deal was up, the radio stations dropped the song.

Madonna is most definitely one artist who is known to beat the odds, but unless something changes within the music business where youth dominates, she is unlikely to score another huge hit. But don't let me squash that bubble of yours, you are in. Believe me, I'd love to eat my words and see her score another big hit.

  3. ^ Surprised she wasn't wearing gloves and/or sleeves! When's the last time she made a big public appearance showing those parts of her body?

Maybe because she's proven it's possible to show up and do something out of the blue and just for fun AND be good/funny/purposeful?

Good Fuckin' Lord!! It's SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. The show just mocks people, life and current events. Do you really expect her to show up to make some huge purposeful statement? Who does that?

Some of you are taking this appearance far too serious. :electropop:

  4. I quite enjoyed it. Not sure what all the hate is about? SNL has been pretty ridiculous for years now. I had noticed that Madonna while over thinking her lines, she seemed to not be reading from the teleprompters that so many do on that show anymore. I noticed the guy playing the congressman, looked like he was reading his lines.

She looked great. I suspect she'll probably do Jimmy's show down the line.

  5. Like I said he's on his big PR campaign to show he's not a bitch anymore. Maybe he's telling the truth but in the past he has said things that aren't true or denied he did things he did. Madonna to me is a credible straight shooting person. George in my experience isn't. Maybe he's telling the truth, but I can't help be skeptical given his history.

But again, he hasn't denied saying negative things about Madonna in the past. And so what if he's trying to turn over a new leaf. I can't speak for all of the world, but in the U.S., no one has no idea Boy George is still out there plugging away. So a statement like this simply reaches the fan bases or those who are music/entertainment enthusiasts who enjoy gossipy media sources.

  6. I believe him. Why not? I mean; I am not a fan of him. I know he has said some crappy things about Madonna in the past. But when have we known him to back pedal his comments? He never denied the other negative things he said of her. He pretty much says what is on his mind. And I've always felt that George has been greatly envious of Madonna. I feel Madonna gave him the brush off and he didn't take it well.

And yes, even reputable sources are known to twist words or embellish things. Madonna has mentioned it happening to her many times. I still recall her commenting on the Vanity Fair spread on her in the early 90's in how they made stuff up that didn't happen. It was minimal to her, so she didn't care, but the fact is even reputable sources are known to twist people's words. Look at the whole "REDUCTIVE" fiasco. The media twisted it as if Madonna actually was saying Lady Gaga was "Reductive" when it was song she was commenting on.

  7. Coz Orbit said it. She was interested but she lost interest near the end of the project (the album).

I don't recall him saying that. I know he commented how frustrated he was because he felt she had so many other things going on occupying her time. It limited the time they spent together in the studio which I'm sure he is comparing to the time they spent together on RAY OF LIGHT. But let's remember MDNA didn't include Orbit as much as he was on RAY OF LIGHT, so of course she had to divide up her time. It didn't mean she didn't put in the work and effort in making a great album. For anyone to say this album was rushed, is just plain ridiculous. She spent far less time on earlier albums than MDNA. An artists doesn't have to spend 6 months to a year in the studio producing a great record. In fact, some of the greatest records were created in far less time, some in a weeks time.

  8. LOL to some fans saying Madonna hasn't put 100% into MDNA. :lmao: My oh my! Of course, it's different times, but I remember in the 80's when she was all over radio, she did very little album promotion. The songs and videos simply did the work for her. And whenever we did see her do something, it was huge... such as an awards show. Interviews were quite slim as well. So I guess she didn't put 100% in back then either. LOL!

Madonna has always did what profited the most in her career. It's a fact some fans need to drum into their head. That said, it didn't mean she didn't care about the music or didn't put 100% in. I would think putting hundreds of hours into rehearsing for a tour, is far much more effort than any promotion like doing an interview, making a video, etc.

I get it. Some fans (including myself), would love to see her do more interviews, promotional concerts either on TV or in clubs and so on. But let's be realistic here. She isn't 25 or 35 anymore. The woman has a long established catalog. Unfortunately, her age plays a huge role in how the general public accepts her new work. Very few mainstream radio or media outlets are gonna play or feature her. Why spend so much money and time on something that will produce very little for Madonna when touring will.

Some of you are going to be greatly disappointed from this point on. Even if Madonna does more magazines, TV and promo tours, you still won't be happy unless it was 1985 again and she was getting the same attention and having the same sales and chart success. Can we say, "UNREALISTIC!!!"

  9. madonna-live-to-tell-video-cap-0032%5B1%

There are far too many great Madonna moments to list them all. I will say though that one of the most amazing moments is seeing the first major transformation of Madonna's image. Her video to Live to tell was just so out of the blue with the classic look of a beautiful vintage Hollywood star and the song itself was unlike any ballad I had ever heard. Such an incredibly brave thing to do because her whole "Like a virgin" era look was copied everywhere around the world by girls and was so popular. Madonna has proven that her music, looks and image have always changed and evolved. Part of what makes her such a fascinating, fearless and admired artist.

This! It's when I finally went loonville. HA!

And of course, this is one of her finest hours too...

  10. i think that was just a random person walking on the street. Rocco comes off a bit stupid sometimes, i mean when i was 13 yo i was not going around my city asking foreigners if they like it here in a mockery of their accent.

    :electropop:

Never mind the fact, your over analyzing a 13 year old boy you don't even know other than his association with his famous mother, but really calling him "stupid" and an "asshole"? To me that sounds like a "stupid" and "asshole" thing to say about someone you barely know, except through a few instagram posts.

That all said, Rocco comes off like a typical down to earth teenage boy. In fact, his interests in humanity is quite commending, especially knowing most teenagers his age are "all about themselves". Obviously, he's strongly influenced by his mother's humanity efforts. But surely, I don't expect a 13 year old to not post some silly and ridiculous things on his/her instagram. At least, he's not out on the streets causing trouble and bullying others. Seems like he's grateful for what he has, and lives a typical teenage life the best he can, considering he is the son of the biggest iconic pop stars in history.

  11. Why are so many people insistent that she. Will never have a hit again. I can't wait for her to come back with a huge smash hit and you can all eat your words!

Please, I welcome the thought of eating my words. I would love for her to smash big again, but let's be realistic as well. And while I do think she's always thinking outside the box, it's gonna take something extremely unexpected (even from her) to gain mainstream attention. The positive, she does have a big enough fan base, that her albums will always come out on top at least the first week of release.

  12. I would have absolutely no issue with Madonna "softening" up her image a bit again and releasing a mid-tempo/ballad as a lead single. However, I think those hoping for some sort of big commercial success with that formula need to keep dreaming. A ballad as a kickoff isn't gonna hit. Period. Well, at least as things are currently.

Although it wasn't "official", if radio wanted to play Masterpiece, they could've. It was out 3 months before the album was ever released.

I have to agree with you. All this speculation of what she should have done, doesn't mean she would have faired any better by releasing other songs as singles. I keep reading, she needs to do songs with "substance", etc., but much what is popular now are frivolous pop songs. It's easy for fans to say our favorite songs would have done better, but I don't believe it would have made much of a difference. I think as you said, thinking she's gonna hit big with commercial success is probably not gonna happen again. Music is dominated by youth. People are stuck on that as unfortunate as it is.

What I do know is that Madonna has done so much that whatever she does at this point, will manage decent attention and decent sales, but expecting her to keep up with how these younger acts are doing it, is purely dreaming. There are very few 50 year old acts that are getting half the attention Madonna gets now. I don't see Madonna desperate for a hit. I think she's just gonna beat to her own drum as she has always.

  13. Oh, I wish Madonna would get more intimate about how she came about all the songs she's collabed and written on over the years. It's so great to hear Niles speak highly of Madonna and remember these tidbits regarding his experience with the Like A Virgin album. He's worked with so many great people and had a decent career before that and it's great that he recalls some specifics when workign with Madonna.

In the end, I think the right choice was made for the first single. Can't imagine how she would have got the ball rolling with Material Girl as the first single. We all are so familiar with the Iconic VMA'S performance and would that even have happened if Material Girl was the first single? And what about the video? It could have been much different than the one we got.

  14. Who's that girl, causing a commotion, the look of love + the short darker hair from the video and the Herb Ritts pics for the tour program

The movie is not totally a dud, it's a very 80's comedy. I never understood the hate for it till i saw it in english with Madonna's original voice : terribly annoying. Until then i only saw the movie dubbed in french and found it quite pleasant. It's exactly the same annoying voice she used on Santa Baby.

Well, when I say "dud", I didn't mean I bought into it being one. Just the general acceptance of the movie was a "dud" or "bomb". Though, the Nikki voice is what makes it even more fun. I never found it annoying at all. But I agree, the voice did carry on over to "Santa Baby".

  15. I just adore this song and movie. I know the movie is a dud, but Madonna as Nikki Finn is iconic. It was liking watching Madonna taking on mulitple personalities. And the song... I love it... especially when she sings...

"Light up my life, so blind I can't see
Light up my life, no one can help me now
    "

And I thought she just looked incredibly gorgeous when she appeared on the big screen, wearing this...

Feel free to post your favorite moments from the Who's That Girl era.

  16. I always enjoy listening to "Material Girl" and think how different she sounded back then, especially on this track. There is no way she could pull off a track like this these days. It was perfect timing that she got this song handed to her. I think Madonna has a love/hate relationship with it since people tend to twist the meaning of the song around on her. This songs definitely shows the growth in Madonna music and vocals as her career went on.
